The best tour ever in my opinion. It had everything with Delgado missing the start and two riders on a comeback. I think of Fignon as the winner of the tour twice not the man who lost by seconds. At the time cycling was no where near as popular. It was so different and colourful and exciting. Loved watching it and doing it ever since
In early-September of '89, a guy in Athens, Ohio (Dave Lundberg) went out and raised a ton of money (a lot of it from the local Coors Light distributor) to bring Greg to a criterium in Athens. This was just a week or so after he won Worlds. The entire town was inside out that day. Just amazing. They still talk about it to this day with great pride. And I still have some of the Coors Light shwag that they were handing out.

I remember this tour so clearly, watching it all with my Dad as a young boy. Great memories brought back. Thank you.

I started cycling and 89 and racing in 90 I’ve never heard about Fignon being booed on the final podium that is horrible. This sport is no joke man.
