    An often overlooked factor for SA rugby development is that rugby is a winter sport. In SA, most of the country has a cold, dry winter. So temps will be around 12 celcius, with no rainfall. This means the ground gets RIDICULOUSLY hard. A lot of grassroots rugby gets played on pitches with almost no grass which is almost like playing on cement. It makes you a lot tougher as opposed to Northern hemisphere rugby, which is played in very wet winters where you tend to have a soft landing from tackles

      I remember playing kaalvoet rugby in primary school, when the grass was white with frost in the early morning, and our footprints could be seen all over the field as the game went on.

      @@mjdouglas9665 I have a core memory, we were U16 and for some reason got put against an U18 2nd team on a free State tour. I caught the first kickoff with not enough time to return, so took it into contact thinking "let's run another phase and I'll kick for touch from a better position". My Bru, I got hit so hard in the first tackle of the game that I made a choice right then that I wouldn't be running a single ball the rest of the game 😂 I Naas'd out of that one

    I really like the look of Gumede, I hope he gets his chances with the Boks, but I feel like there is just too much competition for those backrow positions at the moment.

      A good coach will play him successfully out of position. A lot of players have had world class careers after being moved from their natural position by a genius coach.

    Impressed by Gumede. Unlike Willie, he seems to have peripheral vision, awareness of where his support is, and he offloads when he sees that he cannot make it himself

    Its a close one between Ethan Hooker and Henco van Wyk. I expect them both to be in the mix with Julius in the future.
    What we need is a world class 9 to come through. We have about 5 excellent scrumhalves but no-one who would be in a world xv conversation like we have across the park in other positions.

      Agree with everything you've said.
      I do think that Jaden Hendrikse has the ability to be a world-class 9 though. He doesn't actually seem to lack in any particular areas, and his kicking is already better than any other 9 in SA.

      Siya was 22 on debut, is that holding him back? Or Am and nche 23? Vermuelen and Ler roux were 26.

    In my youth in SA, I never got to see many players of colour, but man they have shown up in numbers since Rassie the reigns, and they are simply awesome. And make Boks incredible team. Just seen many players that will be at the RWC 2027.

    SA rugby has done wonders in the last 30 years building development. The talent coming out of this country is absolutely insane. And unfortunately rugby seems to be on the decline in so many other nations. I feel like life is going to be tough in rugby terms for the rest of the world for the foreseeable future! 😂

    Jurenzo Julius has potential but he was badly exposed by better teams than Fiji and Argentina.
    Sascha has also shown that he has a bit to go to make the no10 Bok jersey his. Had two very average games against the AB's.
    Du Plessis, Gumede, Fuller and especially Mars are very exciting future prospects.

      Jurenzo has some work to do I agree, but has the potential to be a phenomenon...he's only 20 and has had a really solid start with the Sharks in the Currie Cup this season. Mars I don't see it...Hooker though I have huge hopes for...
