I have been doing the "where would I look for it?" the past year. This is SO working for me. We don't have a cluttered home but I loose stuff. My arthritis shoe insoles are the latest thing. I don't wear them all the time. I started looking all over for them, then I asked, "Where would I look for them?" I went to the new shoe hangy thing over the door in the sewing room. They were there. I thanked my past self. Thank you, Dana! It works.
Cat Lover this hit me, because it was only two days ago that I put a long box in a drawer by the closet with my shoes to hold my shoe insoles, etc. It was such a simple and WONDERFUL fix. Dana has improved the quality of my life, with her insights and solutions.
Reading speed of life again and even though I listen and watch on RUclips all the time the book still is revealing itself to me. Always renews my decluttering energy and ready to “take it there now”
Dana, I keep sharing your methods and your channel with others who are lost and overwhelmed. You changed my life, I know what you have shared to freely will help them on so many levels. Thank you so very much.
I have one closet in my 100 year old house! It’s in my bedroom, which I have clothes in and it’s decluttered. I moved here from a modern home. So, I’ve been using the No Mess Method for awhile and when I do feel overwhelmed…I do the dishes ❤
Use your furniture. The animals are not guests, they're family. Put a runner (a towel, pillow sham, whatever) down on the seats. That catches muddy paws, excess litter and most fur. They can be changed as needed. When company comes lift them off.
I have a similar problem with an older home and having to use livable areas for storage. I got tired of looking at the junk in the big room and didn't like being out there with no heat anyway. I traded being able to keep anything in the big room for full control of the third bedroom, which had been completely filled to shoulder-height with boxes. I can't work in here due to lack of space and want to keep 90% of what I have, maybe ditch an extra 5-10% as part of maintenance after organizing enough to do crafts. Mom pokes at the dead-people's hoards out in the big room, but at this rate it'll be years before she's made enough space for me to store things out there. (She's against me helping.) There isn't room for me to actually LIVE here, but I don't want to throw me away. I'm probably going to get all moldy if I go into a storage box for a few years.
Dana, Paul Reiser has a new special out that I've seen snippets of. He's talking about STUFF and doesn't mention Clutter Threshold, but perfectly illustrates it with how one avocado pit remover throws him over it. It would be great to get him on your podcast! OK, gonna listen to this one, now. 🙂
Ha! I'm the 2nd like and the first comment. Obviously haven't listened to it all yet, but I've yet to find one of Dana's videos or podcasts that I didn't like. (Edited for autocorrect)

I've listened to the audiobook version 3.5 times! Always another insight that I catch and always helps get me going again!
Love the advice and encouragement. Living out of two rooms in a partially remodeled house...and trying not to drown in the clutter.

Just used your methods this morning on my bookcase!

Incredibly helpful, as always!

We had a cat that lived to 18 and one who lived to 20. Run the sweeper everyday.
😂 "Who needs 7 pairs of jeans?!"
