His Star Trek roles are: Kurn, an adult/elderly Jake Sisko in an alternate timeline, a Hirogen, something else that I can't remember. His role as Jake Sisko was one of the very few times in any media that he didn't play some guy who was menacing, he had to be softhearted and tender because he was recounting to a young girl, I think the actress was actually Andrew Robinson's daughter, how in this alternate timeline Commander Sisko had a temporal accident and was lost in time. Jake realized that he was the key and had to commit suicide in order to restore balance.

Klingons are all about honor, and having a captain with a strong reputation tell you he brought real, non-replicated food that he kept for personal use on special occasions, just for you to try it, means Picard is doing him a courtesy, which must be reciprocated. If someone tells you they've got a very old bottle of wine they've been saving for a special occasion, and then they pour you a glass, you accept the courtesy and drink it, even if you think wine is absolutely disgusting and tastes like moldy fruit.

@@m-w-y7325 But people still cook it before eating it, even in the wild. Eating raw meat is a sure fire way of getting sick, diarrhea and vomit are not good things to have when in nature where water is vital. Raw meat has about 2 hours before it starts going bad. Leaving it on the sun extends this period, cooking it makes sure you kill anything that could harm you. Yeah, some tribes do eat raw fish and meat, these tribes also don't have the best life expentancy out there. Now Klingons probably have some pretty good stomachs to dissolve anything wrong with their raw food.

It is amazing the amount of things that happen in this episode... in the first half, Picard is serving Kurn bird meat as part of a polite dinner. In the second, Kurn is mortally wounded above the Klingon homeworld and Picard has to become Worf's chadich in his place. And this awesome scene where Worf is about to beat up Kurn is the point where it all pivots.

The history of my island is full of stories of fishermen however.. And all the old families that still live on the island have stories of a relative, or sometimes many relatives who lost their lives to the lake.. Sometimes a father and all his sons sailed out to never be seen again. There's even songs... A monument by the lighthouse at the harbor entrance with many names on a bronze plaque.. For those who think Kurn is too harsh on the crew, consider this. He is probably the "nicest" Klingon (aside from Worf) they could have gotten for the task. Kurn is aware that the Enterprise's crew is used to a more congenial atmosphere, but he also knows that the exchange program is as much a benefit for himself to learn from them, as they to learn from him.
Klingons don't play nice. They play with honor. If you do not honor the people in authority over you, you will not follow their commands and you will not be successful in your mission.
That is the lesson of Kurn. It's easy to follow orders during the good times. It's much harder to follow orders under duress, and that is what he (and Starfleet) is trying to teach them.

Don't forget also that Kern hesitated to do the arm crossing disownning thing to Worf, and even spun the wrong way. He's on Worf's side.

I think a Klingon would appreciate Kaviar. After all, it is raw eggs from a creature - that's pretty metal.

Geordi is really portrayed as being stupid or clueless in many scenes like this. In another scene he stops Data's laughter when it is obvious it is Q's gift. "Why are you laughing Data?"

Kurns really interesting here. He's on the ship for an ultirior motive so makes low key faux passes constantly while overtly trying to be polite, meaning he comes across a little off rather than rude. Great character acting.

Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute...is Kurn eating the flowers? I noticed some of the last things he put on his plate before he headed towards the suppah' table were very colorful so I assumed they were fruit of some kind, but when he actually peels them after he drinks from his cup... they almost look like roses

If Klingons were really this crude, they would never have become such an advanced space faring culture.
