      Thanks for watching! That tool was a beast, but we ended up returning it, and acquiring a tractor with a brush mower... at some point, this mower would not go into, or come out of gear when I got it there... they could not repair it, so we returned it... that field looks like a large lawn today!

  • @jeffbooher6531
    @jeffbooher6531 Год назад +2

    That’s an impressive machine.

    • @rayhayden
      @rayhayden  Год назад

      It was, it really was... I wanted this, because I wanted to avoid buying a tractor, but the forward and reverse cable broke and the thing was trying to kill me - which was also quite impressive!
      They could not repair it, so they refunded our purchase, and we bought the tractor, which I promptly attempted to destroy on that field as well!
      These days, the field is still muddy when it rains, but after a few dry days, I can get in an cut the grass (oh, it is now grass too!) down to about 2 inches. Thanks for watching!

  • @LifeonFishCreek

    How long does the machine run in these conditions on one tank of fuel?

    • @rayhayden
      @rayhayden  8 месяцев назад +1

      This thing ran pretty good with the fuel, the eventual issue I had is that the gear changer would break - I had them fix it once, and it broke again - it could have harmed me pretty badly, because it has a motor to drive it, so I suppose it could have killed me... we returned it for a refund, minus a restocking fee - which was fine, because I did not get hurt, and I got some decent work done with it... but we ended up buying a tractor and items, like a brush mower which did quick work on that back set of fields!

    • @LifeonFishCreek
      @LifeonFishCreek 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@rayhayden I'm thinking about getting the new model for a very remote piece of property. Another guy I asked said it ran for about an hour per gallon, did you find that to be true?

    • @rayhayden
      @rayhayden  8 месяцев назад +1

      I cannot recall specifically, but I do recall not having a problem with the fuel usage, just that it broke, and we returned it.

    • @rayhayden
      @rayhayden  2 года назад

      I actually had issues with that mower, it is in the connection of the wire for the controls of moving forward and backward. We returned it for a refund, minus a restocking fee, but I certainly got a lot of important work done with it!
      We purchased a Kubota Tractor with zero interest financing, and we have a brush mower for it, a box blade, and I picked up a landscape rake as well.
      I would have preferred to use that DR Mower, but it just had those issues.... if they have re-engineered the cables, it may very well be worth it... make sure they have done that before you buy into it though.
      Thanks for watching! I Joined your channel. I liked the Homestead video, nice looking property!

      Painfully, this shows how painfully I miss the obvious! MTRUNK 85 has bees that he works with (the man does everything!) Also, Farmall Fanatic does farming, and has great videos as well - these two gentlemen have videos that I NEVER would have found but for the community and networking with each other - and they are incredible supporters! Anyway, MTRUNK 85 has the beekeeper clothing on, and I never even thought about the obvious protection... even a local store has the outfit, and I LOOKED at it, and the bulb over my head never lit up! Thank you for the suggestion, I will look closer at it!

      It is a DR Power brush mower, and they come in different power settings (engine size). They are kind of pricey, ranging from two to three thousand dollars. I had an issue with this one, and we ended up returning it for a refund, if not for it locking into gear, it was doing excellent work.
      We ended up buying a tractor, and picking up a very large brush mower, a box blade, and recently added a field rake. The tractor made quick work of the rest of that field... We picked our unit up at a local store that sells large lawn mowers, and smaller tractors... search around, but make sure that DR Power has done some sort of improvement on the drive transmission... I loved it, but it could have worked smoother in shifting and moving forward and rearward... and locking in gear made that one - which I do not see on their site now - a non sale for us.
      Of note, the dealer, and DR Power did take care of us.

      That thing would have probably got me where I wanted to be, but it ended up having some sort of mechanical problem and I could not use it, and the shop could not repair it, so they took it in for a return, minus a restocking fee - which was fine, I got a lot of work done with it before it died. I ended up with a Kubota L3901 Tractor, and a Rotary Mower (which I half beat to death as well - the mower, not the tractor!). The field is completely cleaned out of the thickets for now, and I am going to put some old blades on my Toro Zero Turn mower and go into the field to mulch stuff up the best I can. I will keep the growth VERY LOW to help keep the thickets from gaining a foot hold, and I hop that the grass will continue to make its way deeper into this field... so far, so good, and it is growing season! Thanks for stopping by!

    That thing is a joke, how long did that actually take and doesnt look like a very big area

    • @rayhayden
      @rayhayden  5 лет назад

      First, there are more videos in that series. We have twenty acres of land, but that field, in total, is around 3 acres. The reason for wanting to use that mower was because there is a wooded area that I would not be able to get to for a while, and I wanted a smaller width mower to get back into the undergrowth of the wooded area.
      This mower was doing an incredible job, however, it malfunctioned a couple of times, and the retailer determined that they could not repair it, and they worked with DR Power to refund our purchase price - which DR Power did do. I got a lot of work from that mower, and I learned a lot using it as well.
      We ended up purchasing a Kubota L3901 Tractor, and I ended up using that to clear the rest of the field... in further videos, I demonstrate just how well the field is looking today - in fact, I made another video about that just today - I have done several updates on the field over time, and it is coming along wonderfully... it will be a grass field like it once was (we live on a former horse ranch).
      I may be able to utilize the tractor and rotary brush mower to clear out the undergrowth in the wooded part of that field - it is about an acre or so, but densely wooded... still, clearing out the undergrowth will make it more like another part of the property we refer to as "Shady Field."
      I spent most of 2018 reclaiming the property from overgrowth, and damage from hurricane Irma, which came through the area... it was a lot of work, and the property is looking fantastic.
      I invite you to browse through some of those videos and discover what I was able to do, and how the work has progresses.
      Thanks for watching!

      Hey Mike - I did a few videos on this thing... I wanted to love it, but it kept doing bad things, the shifter cable broke, some other cable broke, and then I could not get it out of gear... we ended up returning it.

      This was five years ago for us, but the current one says 10.5 HP - I just watched a video of it. The thing that broke for us was the shifter cable which puts it in reverse, neutral, forward 1, forward 2, or forward 3. When it was working well, I was tackling that overgrown field like nobody's business, and I was quite impressed. I wish it could have been repaired, and they did repair it twice, but the third time within a month or so was it, and we returned it, but the thing was going to town on that overgrown field!

      I mentioned this somewhere along the way, but this product had some issue that the shop could not fix, so they ended up giving us a refund for it, and we ended up with the Kubota Tractor with a Brush Mower - which cleaned the field up rather quickly!

    Can I mow my lawn with that?

      If a lawn is overgrown badly? Sure, but for our "lawn," I use this: ruclips.net/video/wViP3O5Bngc/видео.html

    I regret buying this machine. I'm dropping reviews everywhere people might see them as a buyer beware - I wish I could tell any of you how well the mower works - but we received it in August, unboxed and assembled, followed all pre-use instructions, and the drive belt shredded after only several hundred feet of use. Mower won't drive forward without it, so we had to tow it back to the house. Called and spoke with the company, they agreed that there must have been an issue with the belt, but we don't have a nearby DR dealer shop or a winch to load a very heavy machine that won't drive itself forward/up a ramp, so they recommend replacing the belt ourselves. The trouble is, this mower is not user-service friendly. So, after paying 3K$, here we are on the floor of our garage with a brand-new machine, inching our way through each overly complicated step to replace this drive belt, and consequently we don't have a single kind thing to say about this machine. Since we live in WA, we may not get to even try this thing out again until next May when the rains stop.

      We actually returned ours because it tried to kill me three times... we figured the third time was the charm - and honestly, the shop could not fix it, so they refunded our money. Oddly enough, even with a restocking fee, we had scored more value from the work it did, and that opened up the process... I would NOT recommend DR Power Premiere 26 to anyone at this point. Once bitten - forever shy!

    Sure does not take long for that stuff to become overgrown

    That is some thick @ss brush...
    I think I would have used the DR to create fire breaks and done
    A controlled burn.

      That field is nice and smooth now... and the "wooded" area to the left of this thumbnail is where I am working now... clearing out the palm frond stuff to make that field more of a shady field... I will be making updated videos on this. We did end up buying a tractor with a brush mower, and I cleared up that field pretty fast! We do a lot of burning of plant stuff here!

    A rented skid steer with brush cutter would be 5 times faster and not as taxing on your body as you would be sitting down.

      The mower in this video had issues which could not be resolved, so they took it back and refunded our investment... we had purchased a tractor and brush mower for that. Today, this field is a beautiful field of grass, and I connected it with the field next to that, and they are both very nice, large lawns today. Thanks for watching.

      I kind of killed this thing - or it just kept breaking and the shop could not fix it - we ended up buying a Kubota tractor and a Brush Mower.

    Damn that is thick stuff. You can hire guys that do forestry mulching with a skid steer in my area for $125 an hour. They can clear a acre in about an hour depending upon conditions.

      After working on this for a while, the DR Power mower stopped working, so we picked up a tractor and I knocked it all down. I have newer videos on the field, and it is a nice grass field now!

      We have a DR mower and think it’s a great investment. However it depends on what you’re trying to do. I agree that in this case a forestry mulched would be more appropriate.
