Great show, Stef. You've given us some very useful advice; never thought of electrical tape for preserving the ebonite surface from water. Many thanks from Paddy the Pademelon.
Hey DB, cool to see you here 😂. I got Pelikan 140 couple of days before and want to check it’s piston. I find this great video, cause u can disassemble 140 and 400 the same way.
Fantastic video! Just asking for a friend --> but if the section has become discoloured because of soaking (careless I know!), how would one (the friend) go about reversing that discolouration?😳👍
you can use Dr. G's apothecary's deoxidizer to help with the color restoration or you can use mark hoover's deoxidizer kit from La Belle Epoch. Or one can use the methods used by vintage pipe stem restoration folks (soaking in household bleach and then sanding down and polishing)... there is also the method of using the bleach creme that women use to bleach their arm hairs and then lightly sanding and polishing with micromesh
@andrewchallinor-s6d Thanks im glad you enjoyed it. Silly friend 😊 There are a couple of methods as @HistoricGentleman below has mentioned however im not sure about the bleach. Good luck with your er friends pen. 👍
Do you have any advice on what to use as far as shining a vintage Pelikan 400NN or 140 up? Will Meguire's swirl remover 2.0 work to polish them and get super fine scratches out of the barrel and cap?
For watches acrylic glass i have heard that "turtle wax headlight cleaner and sealant" originally made for headlights of cars, when applied with "meguiar's" pads is doing very well. Although i have not tested it my self, neither on a watch or in a pen, and i don't know exactly which pads, the white applicator pads or the yellow soft foam, so be very careful !! Plus, i don't know if that will be ok to be used on fountain pens, since many vintage pens aren't acrylic or the same kind of acrylic as a car's headlight.
@@nikossiotas I've heard from a pen reviewer who does a lot of vintage restorations that Meguiar's will be fine on it, but wanted to double check. Just rub some of that 2.0 swirl remover on the barrel or cap and take blue shop towels or even a microfiber cloth and rub it in and it's fine. Yeah I don't know if I would try the turtle wax headlight stuff or pads. Thanks for the reply and heads up!
people may use different methods on their pens. However restoring a pen is not just about making it shiny. My own methods are quite labourias and take time but i feel the end results are worth it. Cheers

Im glad it was useful Bruce, thank you for watching.
Thanks Stef. Performing this exact maintenance on my 1990s M250 following a RUclips video is what got me into the fountain pen rabbit hole for good 😊.
Your welcome, i hope it was helpful. Good luck with your trip down the rabbit hole. 👍
Thanks SO MUCH for this video!!!! I will be adjusting the piston on my 1950s 400 as its a bit sloppy
No problem 👍 i hope it was just a little bit helpful. Good luck with your sloppy piston.

@@e.meisner3824 These videos are super handy
That is a very nice lesson, but again, for the competent. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it! Yes it is not a pen for people to practice on. Thanks Ahmed.
I'd never hold you responsible warning take on board :) Joking aside a great informative video
Glad you enjoyed it! Be warned !😊
Very interesting demo never tackled this restriction before and it’s only convinced me to leave it to the experts 😅
Thanks for sharing. A lesson learned today.
Thanks for watching! We all learn something new everyday.
Thanks Stef, I love these kind of videos. They always help increase our knowledge about our favorite writing instrument.
Glad to hear it! I try to help were i can. Thanks for watching.
Lovely video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Stef for this video response full of good advice.
Great for the apprentices that we are!
As mentioned it is a guide only and may differ slightly depending on the pen. Good luck
Hello Stef, great video. I read somewhere, that it’s not recommended to put ebonite feed into ultrasonic cleaner.
Thank you for watching. Any ebonite does not like water, and yes that does include some feeds. So be carefull.
Very useful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for showing how you tackle the restoration of this old Pelikan, very interesting content!
Glad you enjoyed it i hope it was a little helpful. Thanks for watching.

@HistoricGentleman thank you for your comments and imput, however i am not a fan of using any bleach. Thanks.
@@penkino1 that’s why I proffered the other two options as those are the ones I use first and foremost
Thanks for the video, very helpful.
Any chance of sharing links for where to purchase spzre parts for restoring these pens?
Thanks for watching, im glad it was helpful. Unfortunatly im in the same boat i have to search online for parts. Good luck
Hi and thank you for this video. Can you please tell me, if it's the same procedure with the M 605?
Thank you for watching. I am not 100% sure so i will not comment.
Instead of rubber from a bicycle air retainer i use a sewing elastic band, much easier in my opinion.
Thats fine if it works for you then great. Im happy using the innertube rubber. Good luck.
Este que esta mostrando , que precio tendria?
The Pelikan pen has found a new home. Best to email me. Thanks

If a pen reviewer has recommended it then why not. But not for me. Take a look at my "How to polish a pen" video. Good luck
