Gary, this has been a pertinent topic with I work with. I believe this clarifies some of the questions my co-worker had, because she was fearful of having people unsubscribe from a campaign email but then possibly be unsubscribe from ALL organization emails.

How do contacts get in or become non-subscribed? Where there just isn't anything in that column?
Thank you for your clear explanation. I'll now ask you another question (although I'll search for it in case you have explained before). What does one star mean? Does it mean a subscriber open just one email or...?
Mailchimp's definition of a one star contact rating is "This recipient has either unsubscribed and resubscribed, or soft bounced in the past" - see mailchimp.com/help/about-contact-ratings/ for more

Is it possible to distinguish the sending of newsletters and onboarding emails for one and the same audience list and to make sure that if the user unsubscribes from one, he is not unsubscribed from the other?
The disadvantage of duplicating the audience would obviously be the cost of Mailchimp.
I tried the groups but I have the impression that it still unsubscribes the user from all the groups in the list.

Hi Louis, when a person unsubscribes, they are unsubscribing at the Audience level. As such, no emails may be sent to that email address from that Audience.
It sounds like if I have one subscriber in 2 audiences, that unsubscribes from one audience I can still legally send them an email from the other audience. At the end of the video what you said wasn't very clear and seemed to negate what you stated in the video. Can you clarify? Thank you!
With most privacy and spam laws, if a contact unsubscribes from one audience you must not send from another audience.
Thanks Gary. As I set up my first newsletter the unsubscribe options, when clicked, appears with the box for email and underneath "Sorry, there was a problem with the email you entered." I do not know how to correct this. Can you help
Hi Clare, when you mention 'unsubscribe options' are you referring to the unsubscribe link in the footer of the email campaign?
@@GaryEckstein it is what appears when I send myself a test and try all the links including 'unsubscribe'. Is it because i am the creator i can not unsubscribe? Thanks
Yes Clare. The test email unsubscribe won't work but the unsubscribe will work on a 'proper' email campaign.

I accidentally add 6 new contacts to the audience of the organization where I work before the people of IT created their emails so now they appear me as CLEANED contacts and I can´t send them any email marketing campaign.

hello, thanks for video. I wonder if I make non-subscribed customers as subscribed is it a big problem . how can I get their permisson. I will not send email every week, i wanna do just once and thats it. thank you
According to Mailchimp terms and functionality it isn't possible to email unsubscribed contacts to get their permission to send them emails. You could advertise on e.g. Facebook to get people to subscribe.

I by accident imported all my contacts from my mailing list I used in my practice into Mailchimp and clicked ‘non- subscribed’ as status ! Now all my work seems to go down the drain since I can’t send it to them?!! How can I change this?
ReImport them is not a solution I read. Please help?!!

For legal reasons, it isn't possible to send an email to unsubscribed contacts in a Mailchimp audience 😒

But then what?
I run a small charity. I thought I was offering an opportunity to unsubscribe from a "Group mailed campaign". I have learned the hard way that they are now unsubscribed from my entire audience. I will try to get them to re-subscribe using an imbedded form on my website and hope this solves the problem. Is this the only way. Obviously I can capture the email addresses and also mail them outside Mailchimp to ask them to re-subscribe.
