Die toten Hosen were founded in 1982 as a punk band and are still successful today.
The same goes for Die Ärzte, founded in 1982, then split up and reunited in 1993. Still successful today.
Another successful band is Saltatio Mortis, a medieval rock band founded in 2000.

Ja, besonders mit der aktuellen politischen Lage in der Welt.
I remember Red Bull Soundclash between Sido and Haftbefehl. His Reggae version of Astronaut was one of his best songs ever.

The charts got broken in the last years. It's no longer CDs sold and as a result there are a lot of songs now at the top of the charts that work well with the metrics that replaced CD purchases, but it feels to me, that they don't really represent the reality of what people listen to.
So it is! Den Mist kann man echt nicht mehr hören, ich weiß sowieso nicht mehr was dort läuft, habe aufgehört durch die Inkontinenz, die so genannte möchtegernrapper raushauen! Deutschland hätte sich weiterhin treu bleiben sollen und dass machen sollen, was sie können normalerweise : wunderschöne tiefe Texte schreiben plus sehr gute elektronische Musik und Clubmusik/Crossover 😉
Yeah that's kinda true. Some do get listened to though. I remember 500ps being really big when it released (and i quite like it, just like some other things post 2017. They just have a different vibe and that's fine). Though yeah it really did change

This partially brings some nostalgia, I grew up with some of those. I remember the days, sitting in a car with my mother and just driving for hours over the Autobahn to visit some people.
Oh that Namika song.. Lieblingsmensch. That one would be worth a closer look i'd say.
You probably heard the first two places of 2014 if you watched the Football World Cup in Brasil when Germany won the final both of them were played in the stadium.
From 2016 till the end I almost don't remember any song

The statistics after 2016 are more or less broken. They arevno longer based on CD selbst but on other metrics.
Oh, and the 70s and 80s were the most creative and best times for music.

Things have been quiet around Mark Foster since he became a father. But he's a great artist with good songs. I recommend listening to "Chöre".
Meanwhile, our favourite German star in the rap scene is "Apache 207".

i am always surprised that there is no wise guys anywhere. 2006,8,10,12 and 14 they scored in the top 3 german charts even having some success in austria. you would expect them to see them of that and they have banger songs and all acapella on top

Except the other recommendations dont sleep on "Bosse", "Herbert Grönemeyer", "Clueso", "Annenmaykantereit" - these are a bit slower and emotional and "RIN" and bands like "Moop Mama", Nina Chuba", "KUMMER", KIZ" - these are most likely rap acts. All of them have a lot to say and express a lot through their lyrics in very unique ways and with incredible unique sounds. And I think that these acts also represent germanys music taste from this period and above a bit more.
You simply have to react to Rammstein. Especially their live performances in Madison Square Garden or Paris are really epic. Besides the music you can expect a lot of fire and pyrotechnics, since Till Lindemann (singer of Rammstein) is also a trained pyrotechnician. :)

Best time for german songs was 80s/90s and early 2000 , after that it did go downwards.
you have to check out the 90´s by German Artists, or producers - for example Lou Bega, with his Mumbo no. 5 is a German artist singing in English. i think most songs which you listen today in radios were from there by Germans

I feel like most Germans are very casual about Mark Foster. Never met someone that is a hardcore fan of him, but the opposite doesn't really seem to exist either. For most he was just a huge part of our childhoods/teenage years and his songs were on the radio one too many times.
He's the type of guy whose concert you would go to just because, you know?
Recently he's been a bit more quiet, but he still does stuff. Many also know him from the Voice, where he was one of the coaches for a long time.

As a german these 10 years are basically lost to me. There is such a decline in music quality in music worldwide and it feels even more so in germany. Songs have become very schematic (and kind of boring a lot of times) causing me to not bother anymore. As a result I actually do not know quite a lot of these songs despite being a full time german. If you look at similar videos from other decades you will notice quite a bit of songs that are known in the US or worldwide. I understand the market is different nowadays, but aside from some megaacts like Rammstein almost no one makes a splash somewhere else

I wanna recommend the best german band at these days (just my opinion 😉) 'Annenmaykantereit', because the lead singer has such a unique voice and you always can see that all of them just enjoy to make music.
You can start with their cover songs in english but later you should definitely check out their fantastic own german songs, too.

Slowly declining in quality was nearly too PC brother 😉
I feel like towards the mid 2010s German pop just kinda got lost in a whole bunch of kitsch and generic edm, and didn't really adapt well to the changing trends of the time. Most people seem to laser-focus on the whole rap thing, but I think the decline started when German pop just failed to be all that compelling. And then with streaming, I think there was a lot of fracturing in demographics, while rap always had quite a strong, consolidated base of loyal consumers.
Also, people act like there wasn't anything great after the mainstream success of rap, but I feel artists like Apache 207 or Juju are real standouts.
Mark Forster is still a popular musishion, bit not as popular as in 2010

Die Toten Hosen and die Ärzte sind classics amongst german rock and punk rock.
Andreas Bourani, Tim Bendzko, Adel Tawil (Ich + Ich), Revolverheld, Mark Forster have been played up and down in the radio.
Alligatoah is a lyrical genius, singing about all sorts of horrible things, such as stalking, drugs, abuse, etc. he is so great lyrically, that every young adult loves him.
Sido is propably the most succesful german singing Rapper.
Atemlos (Helene Fischer)🤮 you either hate Schlager, or your taste is horrible xD but its popular AF. She is a great singer, but her songs are so annoying...
Pietro Lombardi can make a few great songs, but they are extremely similar^^ He got popular through the german version of American Idol, where he won, despite regularly forgetting his text.
I personally hate every single gangster-rap song. so i won't list them^^
You should definetly react to Deutschland - Rammstein, but it has a lot of gore, so be ready for that.
