YES, NELLY & MIKE ARE SO PROUD & SURPRISED TO HAVE AN AUSTRIAN FOOD IN THAT RESTAURANT! WOW, GOOD FOR YOU, YOU'VE FOUND YOUR ROOT hahahA! ENJOY UR YUMMY FOOD! BE SAFE...
It's good to know that you had found a resto bar that could serve Austrian dishes in Subic..(and at least..no need to fly back to Austria at this time of pandemic just to satisfy your cravings of Austrian foods) 😋😋😋😋
One of the best Wiener schnitzel that I've had was in Figlmüller Bäckerstraße near St. Stephen's Cathedral in Wien. This video has brought back memories of very good Austrian foods for me! Will definitely visit Salzburg and Wien again once the pandemic is over.
Wow! T h at platter looks awesome filled with Vienesse eats! You're a food connoisseur Mike 😄👍 Love the sauerkraut paired with succulent pork chop in a lake town outside Vienna. Yum. Btw, 1400 pesos for veal schnitzel is highway robbery. Popular in pubs here & only costs $15 with salad & chips! Enjoy & stay safe. 🥰👍
When I was little, my mom used to frequent a butcher in Makati to get our wienerle (we were obsessed with the 'snap' casing and cooking wurst in beer) and schnitzels. I seem to remember the owner's name was Werner and it may have been in San Antonio village... Säntis? Point being there were pockets in Makati where generations of Swiss, Germans and Austrians set up shop so I am certain it's not that hard to find what you're looking for as I have memories as far back as the 80s. (Also, there are a couple resorts and restaurants in Zambales owned by Austians: one was most definitely in Pundaquit San Antonio - a stone's throw from SBMA, the other in Iba. I think Aresi's first chef/owner may have been Austrian as well, but this was back in 2007. Somewhat unrelated, I also stayed at a hotel in Guimaras owned by an Austrian couple, as well as visited another's pineapple plantation... I guess it never truly dawned on me until your vlogs how much influence was/is present. I think Austrian settlement pre-dates the Americans, like 1870s?)
Schnitzel very popular in South Africa. Also Eisbein is good in SA with Sauerkraut though its more German i think, less Austrian German. I miss foods like that , and if u find its so expensive.
Very interesting. You know, you always learn something new each day and thanks to you, I learned about the origins of MARMALADE and learned something about QUINCE. It started when Nelly talked about "marmalade" and her pronunciation was very different from how English speakers say it. I checked online and all of them invariably pronounced it as a long "a" at the end and with the "e" silent, as in "lemonade." It led me to its origins in Portugal and learned how it was originally made w/ quince. Anyway, your videos are always very informative and enjoyable. So, keep on...MAKING IT HAPPEN! ;)
monchan54 -- The English word is "marmalade" and the German word is "Marmelade". The Germans pronounce every letter the SAME way (unlike the English). At 9:45 Nelly says "mar-me-la-de" -- using the correct German pronunciation of the German word. An American would pronounce "mar-ma-laid". And BTW, the German translation of "jam" and "marmalade" is "Marmelade" for both -- so we don't really know which one Nelly tasted. Ja wohl, kabayan, ich kann Hochdeutsch sprechen.
The food looks delicious! After watching lots of Kitchen Nightmares videos, Gordon Ramsay will definitely say that the menu needs improvement. Customers are not supposed to feel like they're reading a book.
Keep feeding Mike all these great restaurant food. There is nobody nearly as convincing when it comes to telling his viewers how the food is authentically delicious. As for Ave of Avelovinit, she's got her work cut out for her if she wants to follow in Mike's footsteps. I've, btw, asked Ave if she could do a descriptive commentary on some of her food vlogs while touring Peru. As a Chef, this should come naturally for her!
I believe the German version is made with pork. The Japanese have a similar popular dish also made with pork called, "tonkatsu." The Japanese have an even better variation substituting a large boneless chicken thigh following the same basic recipe -- pounding flat, salt & pepper, flour, egg wash, and breading (panko). Absolutely delicious.
It always depends.. If its "Wiener Schnitzel", the original, then its veal, if it just say "Schnitzel", they mostly just use pork. Both are available in Austria as well as Germany and Switzerland - and in both countries there are good and bad examples of it In general they share a lot of recipes, especially south germany and austria for example, like Käsespätzle and so on.
The last time i ate similar to austrian food when i was working in a GERMAN RESTO IN MANILA way back 1987. Just like Wiener Snitzel, Goulash Soup, Pig Nuckle etc.Sorry to expose my bad habits but i've tried these because only liftover by costumers was the only way i can.😂 It was too wasteful for me to just trow away such a delicious dish. Some costumers don't eat even half of the dish specially Pig nuckle...I wish i still have a chance to enjoy this dish as a costumer just like you Mike & Nelly.😢😂💖
I love these guys.. .thanks for keeping in Philippines. Enjoy

ldluna -- you might be thinking of Wagner German Bakery located at 109 Valero St. Makati City -- near the Makati Medical Center.
I was just watching Wolfgang Puck make the same dishes on RUclips a few days back, what a coincidence.

Filipino/Filipina can cook anything, from anywhere. Some of the best chefs in the world are from the PI.

Yeah the menu seems to miss some "Käsespätzle" or Spätzle in general, would be perfect if this also exist
Love Hungarian Goulash with a dollop of sour cream on top.
