OMG, everything looks great. I've been to Austria once, it is the most under represented country in all of Europe. Everyone should go. Hugs from Chicago XOXOXO
Love the video guys! It's so cool to see the day filmed from a different perspective.. Glad we managed to salvage the day in the end with all these tasty treats! 😋Thanks for the epic food tour!
Some Vienna recommendations: Cafes: Scwarzenburg, Prükel, Diglas, Landtmann are all good in the 1st district. Demel has great cakes but not much space but is well worht visiting to look at the chocolates. Cafe Central is busy but the Cafe Klimt, which was the Griensteidl, is close by and used to be decent. For hearty food the brewery pubs are usually good such as 1516 (in the 1st) 7Stern Bräu (in the 7th) , Wieden Bräu, (in hte 4th) Salm Bräu (in the 3rd by Belvedere), Fischer Bräu (in the 9th, a little out of the way but can be combined with a trip to the hills). For Viennese cooking the big tourist trap restaurant of Figlmüller is worth it for the schnitzel. A not too busy place with atmosphere in the 1st district is Brezl Gwölb. If you like beer and studenty/travellers food I'd also recommend Kolar which has great beer and fladenbrot (kind of a wood fired pitta bread with fillings). If you're in the city for longer it's well worth heading to a heuriger above the city. I love getting public transport, hiking and then just coming across a place but if you want to be more organised head to Nusdorf, Grinzing or Neustift am Walde. There are some tourist traps but it's fun to explore. There are city heurigen too such as the Zwolf Apostelkeller in the 1st district or Heuriger 10er Marie in the 16th. But really there are tonnes of place to explore particularly in the Spittelberg area (which has the best Christmas market). The Altes AKH campus of the university has a lot of decent affordable restaurants in it too in a main square that also has a Christmas market. Other cool places: Dots for Sushi on Mariahilferstrasse, Ramien in the 6th for noodles, or Indus in the 3rd for Indian food. But this is scratching the surface..
There is also a very good ice cream shop in the Mariahilferstraße called "Bortolotti" which has three shops in the street and make their ice cream in the back of the shop
Next time you should try "Käsnudeln" which are a type of noodle filled with a special kind of cheese called "Topfen" and is by far one of my favorite dishes and in my opinion best enjoyed with some butter on top. Love from Villach in the very south of Austria
Tafelspitz was allegedly eaten every day by Franz Josef the second to last Austrian/Hungarian Emperor and the man that first declared war against the Russians in World War 1. Vienna was the capitol of the Austrian Empire which then included the Czech and Slovak Republics and Hungary. It was the European center of classical music. Franz Joseph Haydn was the father of the symphony here and Johann Strauss Jr and Sr were the waltz kings here. Don't forget Mozart and Schubert. I am writing a movie script about Austrian/Hungarian Emperor Franz Josef.
It looked like it wasn't cranberry sauce served with the Apfelschmarrn, but elder berries. Also, you should make a trip to other locations in Austria and try the typical foods of the regions. There's so much more to explore here :)
Compared to many other Austrian Food videos from Vienna you really did not fall into the Tourist traps and seem to have gotten really good food. Good video!
Thanks for introducing us to Travel Beans- Emma and Alex! I love those 2 so much! Since I have watched every one of your videos, I must now start on Travel Beans! Thanks so much for eating and drinking all over the world for us.
Its actually common to eat Tafelspitz at funeral (the meal after the ceremony).. thats why (for me) it is always weird when people just order it on normal occasions in restaurants
When it's wet, eat. Makes perfect sense to me. I envy you being anywhere in Europe as the holidays approach. It always feels like an old time Christmas to me. Chow down guys, there is a lot of seasonal food too.
We love being in Europe and the UK at the start of the holidays! Every city seems to turn into a winter wonderful and the markets are beautiful! Don't worry, there are plenty more Christmas markets and delicious goodies coming 😉
OH! I`m so excited you discovered Reinthaler Beisl! Isn`t it great? The atmosphere, warmth and the dishes themselves. I`ve been there twice now and recommend it always to friends going to Vienna. I had it on my list of places to go to with my sister and niece. They had flown in from L.A. and I came in from Belarus. It was the perfect choice for Christmas morning after mass in 2017. I really love feeling your excitement, despite the wet weather. To me, Vienna always excites me, too, especially around Advent season. You really ought to return in late spring - just gorgeous!
Wow! We might have actually overlapped our time in Vienna! I hope when you say you were going to a "proper market" you were talking about Karlsplatz because that Christmas market was amazing! We're in Brussels now continuing our tour of European Christmas markets as well! Enjoy!
I wish you showed more of the cities themselves not just food. Seems like you spend few days in each city, do a food tour and then move to another country. Nevertheless, was a nice video and I like the way you film your vlogs. Just wish I could see more of the place itself.
Tafelspitz UND Kaiserschmarrn UND Grillhaxe ... eine solide Grundlage fürs Verdauungskoma. :D Tafelspitz AND Kaiserschmarrn AND grilled knuckle ... a solid basis for the digestive coma. :D
First I would like to say I like the style of the vid, you seem very natural in front of the camera and keep the vids coming! 1:30 Cafe Central has developed into a tourist trap in the last years. Look at the line, hardly any locals there. There are coffee houses all over the city, many of them specializied in a specific clientel -> Central 4ex was the historical coffee house sociopolitical and philosophical discussions (rather progressive). There is no such thing as "the" coffee house. 2:40 Around here you use "Prost" for wine and "Gesundheit" for beer. The first comes from he latin word Prosit which was used by such during their toasts of spiced wine. The latter derives from a "wish for good health" which was used in the Czechian and Bayuvaric regions for toasts - therefore usually with beer. 2:52 Emmentaler comes from the Emmen Valley in Switzerland. The lemon is supposed to be served with fried meats (like Wiener Schnitzel) not cheese and the rasberry is supposed to go with red meats. 3:03 There are several veg options on the menu ( I looked it up), an entire section - among others Eiernockeln, traditional Austrian noodles. 4:31 If you want a place in Vienna known for their Tafelspitz try Plachutta. 5:30 The white suace is a chive cream sauce. 8:10 Melange is double coffee + milk + shot of water + milk foam (whipped cream is acceptable). Its not strong^^ If you want a that ask for a "turkish". 9:13 To be precise its stewed plums or compote.
Boiled beef used to be really popular in the UK, predominantly London, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but not so much nowadays. There was even a music hall song written about it in 1909 called "Boiled beef and carrots"!
You guys!! You have no idea how excited I am to watch this!! I’ve said it a thousand times and I’ll say it again- you’re my main inspiration to get back into travelling and vlogging again! I love your editing and personalities and everything!! 😍😍✨✨
Interesting Brit vs American fork workings. As an American I must admit the Brits use of the fork in the left hand seems more effective and sophisticated.
not quite: the white sauce served with the Tafelspitz is "Schnittlauchsauce" - a sauce based on homemade mayonnaise with a bunch of finely cut fresh chives! But in the second restaurant they definitely served freshly grated horseradish! ;-)
Liked seeing everything ordered, nice variety 🐉🐲 Fun to see your channel on it and a combo with other life vlogger travelers. Think chanterelles are something to try as grow in Vienna Woods and have lots of Vitamin B & D plus Vitamin C, iron & potassium. Noticed as was on first episode of Great Chefs of Austria (1990) Amazon Prime. Curdled Chanterelle soup.
I'm a 100% sure that Reinthalers Beidl has a whole section on their menu for vegetarian food. They have Käsespätzle, Eiernockerl, the fried Emmentaler obviously was vegetarian as well, vegetarian soups, sweet cuisine like Kaiserschmarrn, Germknödel, Marillenknödel,...
what i like about your vlogs is that you visit nice places in Europe. Asia is cool and all but youtubers have kinda explored all of it whilst many stay away from Europe because of the cost of living. Keep it up!

02:40 "Krugel beer" Haha for an Austrian that sounds so funny (no offense). What you are drinking here is "average" Austrian standard beer "Gösser", it's good but nothing special at all. Back to the "Krugel beer" ...It's called "Krügerl" and this has nothing to do with the beer itself, it's just the word for the size of the beer, Krügerl = 0,5 liters, Seiterl for example does mean 0,33 liters. Absolutely right!!! Almost every region has a stunning specialty 😊
Especially in Vienna you get fantastic dishes made from innards. I love it!
I'm so amused you thought the horseradish was cheese! :-)
I know! I can't believe they could not smell the horseradish? Especially being grated on an open plate with nothing else there to mask it lol😂

Dark roast coffees have less caffeine then light roasts. Toasted out of it. Stronger flavor which people mistake for caffine
Yeah, I bailed out of the queue for that café too.
The white sauce at the Tafelspitz is called "Schnittlauchsauce" and is mayonaise - bread based! www.falstaff.de/rd/r/plachuttas-opernball-tafelspitz/
You do know that the more the coffee beans are roasted like Espresso is the less caffeine there is!
