You made the apparent difficult setup to be stupidly simple. I have watched multiple videos attempting to explain this router bit - none were sensible, logical or practical. Well done, very impressed and very much appreciated 😊
Why!! I’ve watched so many of these set up videos, measured centerlines of material, fiddled and tweaked router settings to the point of frustration. The bits are in the drawer never used because they were so finicky. This is the ah ha moment I didn’t realize existed. Thank you!
Yeah awesome always been a pain setting this up and test cutting I spent hours yesterday setting up and testing before I cut my pieces haven’t cut them yet but I’ll try this set up first and see how it goes and I’ll update this post afterwards
Perfecto, camarada!
am I only able to joint with a 1/2 bit only a 1/2 material, or can I joint thicker also? I am from europe, our most common material is 2cm, which is around 0,78 inch so i'm in trouble now
Those locking miter bits with the 1/4" shank are fine for ply and soft woods but EXTREMELY DANGERIOUS for hardwoods! You need the 1/2" shank for stability. I have had 2 of the 1/4" shank locking miter bits from this company bend with very limited use on hardwood. Throwing a bit on a miter table is well,. Not good people! There is a reason why pro companies like Fruid don't offer these style bits with a 1/4" shank.
Yikes... I didn't notice that until I scrolled down to see these comments. Agree 100%. I have the Valkyr 1/2" shank version. With any bit that does edge joins, I suggest you also use featherboards to hold the stock down and towards the fence... to get proper alignment and fit.
Thank you for this simple and to the point video. My next project is building an external speaker enclosure for my ham radio rig. I can buy one from the manufacturer for over $100 but why buy one when I can build it. I don’t believe I can find oak or poplar that is 1/4” by 6” width so I’ll build it 1/2” by 6” width. I’m having fun with my Bosch router table combo I made a hardwood base 3”x 4” bass for a Morse code straight key. I used a Roman Ogee bit to make base look turn of the century and early American stain. I hope I have the same results as you.
I bought one of these bits years ago and had no instructions how to set up the bit. I still have it on my router bit box but i just learned how to use it. Could of been very handy for the projects i did.
what are the suggested RPMs? I just received my 3 Bits from Amazon however, there are no instructions on setup or the RPMs, on the bottom of the box the verbiage indicates "The Max permissible rotational speed(specifications on the chart) must not be exceeded!" I DID NOT receive a chart and I can't find a cart on the internet or on You Tube. Question? what is the RPM I have a standard Craftsman 1/4" router I think I cant use it because i can't change the RPM's and If I need to but a new router I still need to know what the RPM's should be to use this tool. I thought this was going to be simple it's looking like I'm going to have to send this item back to Amazon and also write a bad review on this product. Oh also the font of the Box says USA US brand with Global Srouce making it look like it's made in the USA but the item is labeled Made in China ( Packaged and product designed in the USA). Any help with the recommended RPM's would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Pascal, ici Pascal . .
There also are jig from infinity and an other name that I forgot. It would be great to make same jig as them ourself, because they are a bit expansive.
I'll subscribe if you answer my question. (Backstory). Me an my wife just bought a house. It needs some trim work...drywall included. What tools do I need? I'm a welder and mechanic by trade so I own drills and metal working stuff. Know literally nothing about wood.
You need to get a mitre saw to cut the trim. You can use a hammer and finishing nails to fasten it but a Brad nailer is easy. As far as drywall goes you just need a knife and a drywall handsaw. Sounds like you have a drill already. Make sure you use a drywall dimpler to avoid putting the screws in too deep.
It’s hard to imagine the popularity of this suit, you can also buy a single piece according to the size you need, link: www.amazon.com/ZokMok-Carbide-Suitable-90-Degree-Woodworking/dp/B08SGZ9BF8/ , If there is a problem with the use of the product, you can contact our shop for a replacement
By Far the most simple way of setting the bit up vs measuring half way up the bit and half the thickness of the wood. Thank you!

Awesome, straight to the point video instruction. Thank you brother 🙏 I am now your follower.
Fernando Ramirez I tanks a million for how clearly you explain to used the router bit locked because is my first cabinet that I do and my on Thank you
Waow: I watched so many videos to find how to do it easily ! ! !
You are the only one I've seen that do it that fast and easy.
Thanks a lot !! !
Your video really bring out how I was thinking about the the bits, the other videos I've watched are crap .
Definitely the best video to set it up this kind of router bits!! Thank you so much dude!!
Definitely can’t argue with the results, perfect 90 degree corner. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
@@WesHamstra Absolutely! Builders have to support each other. I have that bell 🛎 turned on so I get alerted when you make new content!
I don't understand why no one has explained it so well yet!
Thank you for an excellent instructional video. Never knew the use of straight edge for height and fence...so simple yet such a good result.
Had this bit for years. Think Ill set it up now.
Wow ! Easy and straightforward. Thank you
What speed setting do you recommend?

Nice joints. I have purchased flattening bits from them in the past and they work nicely too.
Yeah. They are pretty good bits.

Well done Wes. But Im struggling to set up this mitre lock bit. Can you give me some advice, dont know what im doing wrong. Ruby - South Africa
Easiest method I’ve ever seen
Nice one mate, that was a nice joint again. However the push stick was killer...😃
Thanks! It’s a real straight shooter.
that looks great on a long piece of timber, how would you do the same with a 90mm wide piece to make a 90mm x 230mm box.
I router the full length uncut of wood, then cut the sizes as required

does this work on plywood ?!
Great vid wes. Ive seen alot of ppl say they had trouble dialing those in. I didnot have an issue at all.
Thanks. If they take their time making sure the bit just touches the straight edge their should be no issues

Nice vid, Wes. Thanks for this useful tip! The thickness of the wood Planck has to be the exact height of the bit , right?
Looks easy and really hoped it was going to work not even close.
Same here. Even pulled up the video in the shop. Not even close.
I love that push stick
Love that push stick
I tried like 30 times and couldn’t get it to work. The ends never met up the same. There was always a lip that stuck out

So…..how do I know what size bit I need for each diff dimensions of lumber???
Very interesting video, Wes. Well explained! Keep making video's like this!
Thanks!
Very helpful. Thanks. !😊
is lock miter bit matched with mini trimmer??
I NEED THAT BIT
I will use for my next columns job
How do they work on end grain, such as when you're making a box? Do they give clean cuts?
Great question. I imagine they would work ok. You would definitely want to use a backing board to avoid blowout
wow ive played with that bit for agess
2:03 Setup height bit 2:19 Setup depth fence
The Best using!
Good hustle 30$. I bought this same set for $11.81

I am Canadian. But a good boy… well that’s up for debate. My Amazon links are all us because 90% of my viewers are American

WHAT DO YOU DO IF THE BIT WONT FIT YOUR ROUTER
Sounds like you got the wrong size for your router or you have an issue with your router.
@@WesHamstra got the wrong size but ordered the right one
Ordered the bit from Amazon. Tested on four pieces of cedar. Bit burned up and stopped cutting. Junk bit.

Great but these bits destroy the wood if you try it cross grain!
i wish a compy would help me
Lol. You better use push block or coping sled.. or have 3 tips of your fingertips reattached like I did last year
I have one made by another company and it is imposible to set up . I gave up on it after several tries.
Really? I have had no issues. Have you tried setting it up the way I showed?
@@WesHamstra I don't remember, it's been a few years. I will try again one of these days.
Those bits are unrealistically inexpensive. They can't be very high quality.
