I have the Fox Float X2 2018 267×89 stroke on mi Ghost DH7, i use 4 spacers 180 psi, mi weight: 209 pounds without gear and yes still i didn't find the perfect setup for it but it ' works great almost like a coil shock ! Great video
You captivated my attention when you said "Do you have a Fox Float X2?" then "this video is going to show you how to set it up CORRECTLY" Its like you knew the struggles in my life LOL Nice work, I think I'm going to have to watch this again ON the trail!
Hahaha right on, thanks for the note! Hope the vid helps as you dial in your X2! Once you break up low speed rebound/comp as the second two adjustments to ballpark, and then focus on high speed comp/rebound, it makes it much easier to dial in. Have fun!
0:40 set sag 2:08 low speed rebound 2:36 low speed compression 3:24 high speed compression 4:49 high speed rebound 5:37 adj air volume (spacers) 6:37 Jeff's settings on his X2
Ha hahaha well four wheel dynamics are pretty different than two wheel! I built a prerunner Ford Ranger back in the day, though I couldn’t afford bypasses, it was cool seeing just how much the rebound affected body lean in the turns, as well as how you could double up the shims for firmer damping. Have fun with that sxs!
This video couldn’t be more perfect for me! We have the same shock, same bike, same weight and same riding styl.......who am I kidding. Lol. But your settings are spot on for me. 👌🏽
Hey Jeff, it's great how you relate each adjustment to changes in performance and feel on the trail. With so many variables it's easy to confuse yourself. Be methodical, dial it in and then let'r rip!
Nice Vid my LBS is getting me the X2 2020 model putting it on the mach 5.5 she needs it...going to dig out the shock wiz gets it very close from past shocks and mates rigs as well
Hi Jeff, thanks for the info, from your setup I captured you run 180psi 2 volume reducers LSC 20 turns out from fully close LSR 19 turns out from fully close How about HSC? HSR?
Jeff, To control bottoming out when do you choose to add high speed compression VS adding volume spacers? Also does adding high speed compression reduce bump sensitivity at the top of the stroke? Thanks in advance. Your videos are a wealth of knowledge and very much appreciated.
Hey Jeff, great video, very very helpful, because 1000 and 1 settings can drive you crazy. Can you please tell your HSC & HSR? these two values would be helpful. Unfortunately they are not described in the video Greeting from the Austrian Alps
Wow. That sounds like alot of air for your weight. I just purchased a 2018 mach 6. Im 175 lbs. I’ve got 150psi. I’ve only ridden the bike twice. The first time the rear end had no lift. The second time at 165psi. Better. Oh. I adjusted my low speed damper the second ride. And checked my low speed damper. And its about the same as yours. Hopefully this weekend it’ll feel better. Thanx for the video!
Thanks Cat! I weigh around 160lbs, and I use a heavy back pack, but you'd likely need more air. However, shock pumps are not all calibrated correctly, that could explain part of the difference as well.
Jeff Kendall-Weed just rode it with 165 psi. And its awesome! I got pop and feels like good traction too. I checked my sag and its about 20-25% now. Before around 30%. Maybe my psi is different because the leverage ratios different from your bike? Dunno. Thanx again for reinforcing my decision on the low speed damper settings! Awesome!
Hey Jovani, thanks for the note! I might do some pumptrack evenings once my broken shoulder heals a little more, we'll see if it's doable by late summer!
Wait a minute... I have the Float X2, so I was excited to watch this, but... You mentioned that you can adjust the high speed compression & rebound, but you never showed it. I see the low speed compression & rebound adjustments, but I don't see any high speed. There's the climb switch, but nothing else. How do you adjust high speed compression & rebound?

Narjuni, you should set up your shock yourself for your own bike, weight, and riding style. Use the techniques mentioned to find what actually works best for you!
Hey Jeff, thanks much for the great vid! Very helpful! But as several have mentioned below, the settings that you mention you are running are indeed at the end of the video, but only PSI, Spacers, LSC & LSR, but no HSC or HSR. I have replayed several times, and they are not there. Could you help us with them?? Oh, and overall how do you like the HD4?? i am still contemplating buying one.. I just got the new 2019 Bronson V3, put a GRIP2 & X2 on it, looking forward to dialing it in!
Hey Jeff, I am same weight, you only listed your PSI, LSC & LSR, can you please tell your HSC & HSR? And do you be chance have same for the GRIP2?? Thanks!
Hi, I have a fox x2 on santacruz high tower lt. Weight 65kg in trim. The correct sag (between 16 and 19mm) I get with 155psi. Could you tell me the correct set up for this bike model? (lsr, lsc, hsr and hsc)
Great video as always. On the lower end Fox DPS shocks, you just have a rebound adjustment. I don't see it specified in the manual on if it's high speed or low speed. Is any of what you said about rebound applicable without the other settings to fine tune? Or should I just go by the setting that's in the Fox tuning guide?
Hey Dan, the DPS shocks just have a low speed rebound, as that is what you'll feel the vast majority of the time you're on the trail. Feel free to start at the recommended Fox starting point, and go from there if it feels off. Sag, rebound, and air volume are the most important adjustments for short to mid travel bikes, at least in my experiences.
Alas, I wish! Gonna be another 6 weeks off the bike, and it feels like someone pounded a nail through my scapula. These were all old, recycled riding shots. Thanks Marc!
The manual for the X2 shows to measure from the base of the dust seal, not the edge of the seal where you push the o-ring back to. But most other shocks you measure from the edge of the dust seal. The X2 seems to have a more substantial dust wiper, hence the slight difference in where to measure from.
During initial setting of sag - how are your LS/HS compression and rebound set? Also - Fox's "nifty" 3/6 hex tool doesn't fit properly on a Medium HD4 with a 2020 X2 as the frame gets in the way of its reach. Thanks!
At 6:59 you say you like much more high speed damping than low speed. Is that the same as high speed compression & / or high speed rebound? So what are the high speed settings you use?
Ahhhh but alas Marco, that's a common question! I have the DPX2 but not the silly hardware to install it! I actually have THREE dpx2 shocks!!! And no shoulder at the moment! My goal is to try the DPX2 as soon as my shoulder is better, then do a comparison vid.
ahhhh, that's right! seeing the video i assumed you were back at it! it's hard to grasp a real sense of elapsed time over the internet. hope you are feeling better.
Clicks! Sorry if I wasn't more clear. Older X2 prototypes that I rode did not have clicks on the HS circuits, but production shocks do indeed have clicks on both HS and LS circuits.
Hello Jeff, I've recently bought a Large IBIS Ripmo with X2 shocks. what's your opinion about the SAG? I ride race enduro but no bike park. I weight 80Kg. I like versatile and nimble bike. something to have a good base. thanks ;)
My shock has a lockout lever . Is it just two positions ie on or off ? Or does the compression increase as you move the lever ? Ie can you set it half way and get a little more compression but not as much as fully locked out position .
Hey Chris! The stock one is OK for the intended purpose of the Ripley, but I have seen a couple folks source and install a Fox DPX2, which is indeed available in the Ripley size. I haven't ridden it myself, but I imagine that's the best setup if you want the bike to feel a little more capable on the descents! If I still had a Ripley it'd likely have a DPX2 on it.
This is a bit late and you have probably figured it out by now but encase you haven't. It's just preference bud, just like your bike. It's set up for you and what you like, what makes the bike feel more confidence inspiring or playful or whatever. Personally I hate this answer because it doesn't give you anything to go off of but it's true. Take base settings from manufacturer and adjust to what you need
Howdy Jeff....what were the HSC and HSR settings you go with? Also...did you just start at fox recommended as your starting point and then hone in using +-4 technique?....thanks!
Hey Craig, it's at the end of the video. I started from scratch, way before Fox had starting points. I usually start at 8 turns then bracket from there.
Hi Jeff....i rewatched a couple times as i'm getting a new HD4 next week : )....but after discussing where you ended up click wise for LSC/LSR, the video says you run quite a bit more HSC/HSR but doesn't say what it is (where you began or where you ended up click wise). I am curious if you can provide that info...thanks! I will using this advice next week when I try to set mine. PS..do you go the same route with the Fox 36 fork...anything different to keep in mind with setting that up? Thanks bud!
I want my rebound to be not slow but not fast as Im getting tucked over the bass sone Times...how many turns would u do to react that? My compression should ne Made for normal trail ridngs wird sometimes jm to flat but not very Big... just like 6 Stairs or so... How many turn should I do?
Jeff please can you help me with my shock with only LSR and LSC, i don't have HSR and HSC.. Only 3mm to make set up. Ond this video you have shock with 3 and 6mm setup?
Jeff, I bought an Intense Tracer bike and it has a fox float x2 shock but after 3 months the shock started to make squishing noises. Have you heard of similar problems with other x2 shocks?
Hey Jeff, hopefully you can please help me out. I have this Float X2 on my New bike and i believe the shock setup may he the reason why i cant jump anywhere near as well as my 3 other bikes. I set the sag and everything to the manual default clicks, and i feel like i barely get any lift off jumps and cannot clear the same gaps jumps i can on all my other bikes. Im now guessing its related to HSR based on what you said at 4:50. When you say "too much high speed rebound" do you mean too open or too closed? Thanks a lot, see you on Galbraith.
That shock doesn't have the red reducer, but the red thing is just a limiter so you don't put too many reducers in there. The red thing doesnt change the volume that much, ive tried both with and without it.
I'm 17 stone/ 238lbs, I think I might be on the limit of this shock. I can get 30% sag on a Scott Genius, that's with 2 volume reducers. Hope this helps
Hey man i have a 2019 stumpy and im looking to upgrade my rear shock to the fox x2 . My shock is 210x52.5 but the x2 does not come in that size but it does come in a 210x50 and 210x55 can i use any of those 2 if so which would be better ?
Owning X2 for two seasons and still dont know how to set it up in a best way. Bottoming out too often. Already put 220 psi but still.. ( Weigh about 70 kg only.
Is it possible to run a coil on my Ripmo? Or will there be too much pressure on the wishbone like my RIpley? Trying to dial the shock and it's back and forth and can't find that sweet spot. Thanks!
Just got a new Ibis Ripmo with X2, coming from Santa Cruz Highball hardtail. I noticed on my first ride that my feet left the pedals over larger rocks and steps on the down hill when going fast or slow. The hardtail never did that at any speed over same trails. Have 5/10 Freerider pro's coming but I assume it's the X2 settings? Any suggestions?
According to FOX manual, SAG should be measured with dust wiper. Take a look :) That's why, in your case it's around 15mm instead of 14 :) www.ridefox.com/fox17/img/help/page556-T8A6/inline/FLOAT-X2-sag-rangea.jpg
Did you have a hard time setting up your X2?
Probrably not, because I don't have one 🤔
I have the Fox Float X2 2018 267×89 stroke on mi Ghost DH7, i use 4 spacers 180 psi, mi weight: 209 pounds without gear and yes still i didn't find the perfect setup for it but it ' works great almost like a coil shock ! Great video
I had a hard time setting up my shock with only rebound and sag!
I have Fox Float DPX2 Performance, my weight is 86kg (190 pounds) 220 psi and still SAG is on about 45%. How far I can go with the pressure?
@@DarekTube1 maximum 250psi
I’ve never seen such enthusiasm over shocks!!
Hahahaha!!!! But this is the FOX FLOAT X2!!!!!
I feel for you
Kinda scared. Not going to lie
Here I am again. Did I just get a bike with a float x2 and fox 38 already watched the fork one and now this was next , perfect

Ha hahaha well four wheel dynamics are pretty different than two wheel! Thank you man!!no one has done a understandable explanation of this shock on RUclips!!
Thanks Peter, glad I could help!
You made tuning my X2 on my firebird so much easier than the other videos and Fox's manual lol Keep it up!
Thanks Calvin, glad it helped!
Hey Jeff, it's great how you relate each adjustment to changes in performance and feel on the trail. With so many variables it's easy to confuse yourself. Be methodical, dial it in and then let'r rip!
Thanks Mr Chow! Hope the vid helps!!!
Just ordered one from Jenson for my Tr patrol. Going to test and tune it at Windrock bikepark next weekend
How does it feel on the patrol? Im thinking about getting one for my patrol as well.
Nice Vid my LBS is getting me the X2 2020 model putting it on the mach 5.5 she needs it...going to dig out the shock wiz gets it very close from past shocks and mates rigs as well
My bike came with it, amazing stuff.. I'm rather afraid messing up my stock setting.. thanks for that interesting video!
Dude is pumped! Great video!
Nice explanation Jeff! The X2 rocks!
Thanks Awesome! Glad you're liking the shock!
Hi Jeff, thanks for the info, from your setup I captured you run 180psi
2 volume reducers
LSC 20 turns out from fully close
LSR 19 turns out from fully close
How about
HSC?
HSR?
Good video Jeff. Got the DPX2 and still dialing it in. This helps.
Right on Joey, the DPX2 should be a lot easier to set up. No high speed adjustments to worry about
Great video. Was also just thinking today how somebody would use a measuring caliper with their bike and I guess I got my answer!
Oh man, thanks Trail, I used a caliper in the saddle and tire videos as well! Best $20 tool ever!
Thx for the great info the one thing you didn't mention was what you were running your hsr or hsc at how many clicks backed out from closed ? Thx.
appreciate the simplicity in your explanation. helped a ton setting my new x2 up.
Jeff,
To control bottoming out when do you choose to add high speed compression VS adding volume spacers? Also does adding high speed compression reduce bump sensitivity at the top of the stroke?
Thanks in advance.
Your videos are a wealth of knowledge and very much appreciated.
Add more air if you're bottoming out
Hey Jeff, great video, very very helpful, because 1000 and 1 settings can drive you crazy. Can you please tell your HSC & HSR? these two values would be helpful. Unfortunately they are not described in the video

My 165mm X2 has blown out twice within a year. Great shock when it works ... but high level of failure.
Yikes that's a lot of problems! If you're blowing through X2 shocks, then try a DPX2, it's a simpler design and possibly more internally robust.
Thanks from Germany ✌🏼😎
Awesome , just got one for my V4 Nomad. Super helpful, thank you!
Right on Dathan! Enjoy the shock and your new bike!
Your videos are very informative. Keep up the great content, Jeff!
Thank u for making this video. Was definitely the easiest to follow, for me. It was very informative and easy to understand. Thank you!
Hey Jeff, you mentioned your low speed settings only in the video. What high speed settings do you use? Thanks!
wait what he told us about high and low speed compression and rebound ... all of them in this video omg
Great setup video!
Thank you, I appreciate it Jeff!
@@JeffKendallWeed please can U give us Your settings = i ride same style as You= POP and flow ,thanks 🤘🏾
I don't but is helpful either way because it let's you know what's going on with your suspension
Thanks JM! enjoy your bike!!!
Yet again another awesome video👍🏻 Do you think you’ll ever do a meet up in Bellingham to ride around Galbraith with some of your subscribers?😁😁
Hey Jovani, thanks for the note! I might do some pumptrack evenings once my broken shoulder heals a little more, we'll see if it's doable by late summer!
Awesome vid as always Jeff
Thanks Tomi!!!
No problem Jeff!
Ok so this allow you to dial compression and rebound each at high and low speed? You can set the four parameters independent?
Abel Ramos Yes
Ty for your help Jeff
Thanks for watching Ken!
Is the #2 question: "When will I have to send it in for warranty rebuild?"
been waitin for this. ty
Thanks PaNipu!
Is it a good idea to find the physical middle of the adjustments and go from there or go from how the shock comes out of the box?
Can you define "crank it all the way in"? Is that counter clockwise or clockwise?
I'm pretty sure it's clockwise since he said "that's not a lot of damping".
So turn the dial fully clockwise and the count counter clockwise just as Fox also instructs on their setup guide.
Commenting this out as it's a bit unclear in the video.
Great info. Jeff
I use the rear shock fox x2 spring, please help set the rebon and compensation if the bike wants to jump, if the stelanx is tight on the left, how many clicks are turned to the right for each feature (low speed rebond, hight speed reabond, low speed compensation, and height speed reference)

When measuring sag, do you measure from the bottom or top of the dust seal?
The manual for the X2 shows to measure from the base of the dust seal, not the edge of the seal where you push the o-ring back to. But most other shocks you measure from the edge of the dust seal. The X2 seems to have a more substantial dust wiper, hence the slight difference in where to measure from.

That shock doesn't have the red reducer, but the red thing is just a limiter so you don't put too many reducers in there. The red thing doesnt change the volume that much, ive tried both with and without it.
What is weight limit on X2? Can’t find it anywhere.
I'm 17 stone/ 238lbs, I think I might be on the limit of this shock. I can get 30% sag on a Scott Genius, that's with 2 volume reducers. Hope this helps
I bought a used mtb with a Fox Float X2 and it makes a squishy wet sound when i compress it. What is wrong, and should i still ride it.
Time to get it serviced/rebuilt. Find your local dealer who can manage this for you.
Hey man i have a 2019 stumpy and im looking to upgrade my rear shock to the fox x2 . My shock is 210x52.5 but the x2 does not come in that size but it does come in a 210x50 and 210x55 can i use any of those 2 if so which would be better ?
Except you didn't set up the sag, you just slid the o-ring
Owning X2 for two seasons and still dont know how to set it up in a best way. Bottoming out too often. Already put 220 psi but still.. (
Weigh about 70 kg only.
@Michael ORM HSR?? Maybe you meant HSC?.. Mostly people suggest to play with HSC when having bottom-out problem.

Is it possible to run a coil on my Ripmo? Or will there be too much pressure on the wishbone like my RIpley? Trying to dial the shock and it's back and forth and can't find that sweet spot. Thanks!
Willian, they say the Ripmo must have an air shock. Are you running the DPX2 (what most folks tell me they prefer on the Ripmo) or the X2?
Jeff, I'm running the X2. The set up keeps alluding me.
Is someone tried to check if possible to change the hardness when using climb switch on X2 ? on 2018/2019 models?
I dont know of a way, but maybe a custom tuner could do it?
I got that same jenson usa hat! Hahaha
SWEET! It's a rad hat!
Hey
Heya!
you did not show us how you adjust it
Just got a new Ibis Ripmo with X2, coming from Santa Cruz Highball hardtail.
Take a look :)
That's why, in your case it's around 15mm instead of 14 :)
