  • *TYPO ALERT - at 17:05 I show the compression adjustments. Welp, total brain fart and I don't even know how I messed that up, but those numbers are completely off. A little less sugar for me while I'm editing...
    LSC = 12 clicks
    HSC = 16 clicks
    My bad :)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    I've received a ton of requests for this video, so I took some time on the trails with my Fox 36 GRIP2 fork, which has been my favorite fork I've ever owned.
    In this video I cover the benefits of the GRIP2 damper plus a complete in-depth setup guide with tips and tricks to getting your damper dialed!

    I've been riding bikes and motorcycles for years and have a solid understanding of how a suspension works. My brother sent me this link and told me to check it out, you couldn't have done a better job explaining everything. PERFECT. Keep up the good work, and don't feel afraid to make long videos if you keep this detailed content!

    Killer video to outline not only what each setting does as it relates to the fork, but also demonstrating them on the trail.
    One suggestion, have a downloadable table for print out of such complex forks. It would be sweet to have that on the trail while we dial in. This is sweet! Thanks for the passion you put into it.

    Mike & the Lost Co team, thank you for all your time/effort on putting together yet-another mind-blowing epic "ah-ha!" video (just as epic as your 1hr 'fork service' video)!! This approach is very practical and so different from all the conventional how-to videos & mfg manuals (ie. about how to push down for sag measure at 4:20), yet is so well-articulated on what's-for-what on trails that it all makes sense. I watched it a few times slowly with many pauses to fully understand, pre-set a baseline in my garage, then hit the trails today for micro-adjustments, and - voila! - my fork is like a completely different fork! Although I had taken my time to carefully dial in my current fork and happily settled as such for the past 2yrs, this is another new "high" with my same fork. To put it in dog analogy (LOL), I'd say my current fork was previously set like a "border collie" (always on the go-go-go) for the past 2yrs (I loved it), but now my fork is more like a "great dane" (tall/composed & reserved - so calm/quiet) thru gnar - and I love it!! Just after doing my fork oil change with the new seals I got from Lost Co over the weekend, this video was perfect timing to completely revisit my fork setup. Thanks again for this awesome in-depth tutorial!

    This opened my mind up to the possibility of actually trying more sag/less pressure with my 36 170mm Grip 2 fork. I'd previously been between 15 and 20% sag. So, I added a second volume spacer and dropped pressure some for 25% sag and am about to do some test-n-tune today! I'm just shy of 200 lbs in gear and noticed by trying to set sag with your method of hanging above the bars, I'd be running a bunch more pressure to get 30% ish sag, closer to 1 psi per kg of body weight which seemed a bit much for my general application and trails. Thanks for sharing your methodology, Mike. Much appreciated 🤙

    Thank you for posting this, I am coming off a Bronson with a Pike fork that I loved (bike burned in recent fires) and I updated to a Nomad with the Fox 36 fork and found the fork to be really harsh and the handling was not great at high speeds - was getting deflected a ton. I added 2 air tokens per your suggestion, backed off on High Speed Rebound and backed off on High Speed Compression and it helped a ton.

    Just got a new bike with the Grip 2 damper and my first ride made me wonder if I'd made a mistake on the purchase. This gives me a lot of hope that it's just a setup thing. Coming from a Grip damper, I've always wanted more support in certain spots and corners in the open setting, and it sounds like this is a real possibility with the Grip 2. Thanks for the great video! Looking forward to fine tuning everything.

    Great video. I am waiting for the delivery of my new Orbea Rallon which will be fitted with the new Grip2 fork (and the nbew Flost X2 shock). I'm new to MTB but I ride and used to race motorcycles (roadracing) and setting up suspension, aside from measurable sag, has always been a struggle for me. Being in California your examples in the video are perfect as I can apply my style with your different examples. My only advice that made a difference for me when explaining high speed and low speed differences, whether rebound or compression, would be that it refers to shaft speed. You do say it, maybe just revisit a couple times. Awesome video, saving it for when the bike shows up, which can not be soon enough.

    Thanks for the video on the Fox Fork. I have the Fox Fit 36 with 170 mm travel. I am 197lbs without my osprey pack so let's just say 210 with gear & water. I ride in the Arizona desert with lots of chunky rocks, both big and small on the trails. Transitioning over from Rock Shox forks, I have found this fork to be challenging to dial in. The video helped me and I plan on investigating if my fork was delivered without spacers too. I am hoping that is the problem I have been having and will take your advice to add 2. The best it has performed was this summer in Trestle Bike Park hitting big jumps and banks. On lot's of loose rock with much chatter, it wares me out. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  6 лет назад

      Glad I could help!! What travel is your fork from the factory? Fox ships different travel forks with different amounts of tokens.
      Also, what sag are you at? I found mine very chattery with the recommended 15% sag and clicks of compression.
      Try basically starting from scratch with how I recommend to set the fork up and let me know how that works!!

    • @the_Brink05
      @the_Brink05 6 лет назад +1

      It is a 2018 Fox 36, glossy Orange with 170mm travel. (ID = C965). I Typically ride with about 25% sag. I'm guessing it has NO tokens given the travel. I will start by investigating that. Also, should the rebound match the rear Fox shock too? I have not had trouble with the rear but I did insert a token in the rear and that seemed to smooth out the rear travel.

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  6 лет назад +1

      Yep your fork has zero tokens installed from the factory. Add 2, and then go through my setup procedure to see how that feels!
      Note that your fork only has one rebound adjustment unlike the grip2 forks which have 2. So you'll have an easier time setting yours up. Just refer to your rebound adjustment as Low Speed Rebound and you should be good!

    • @dukemasterpro
      @dukemasterpro 5 лет назад

      interesting - two tokens? for a 170mm grip 2 - not tried that yet! does that put air pressure much lower than the leg sticker. I'm 78kg plus kit, been running 1 token 78-82psi depending on terrain. 20% sag. are you running same or less pressure with the extra tokens?

    Was very surprised to hear that adding 2 spacers improved chatter compliance and even made it use all of its travel.
    I'm currently running my 170mm Grip2 without spacers and indeed hardly ever use all travel.
    Did you change the amount of sag after adding the spacers?

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  6 лет назад +4

      Less air volume = less air pressure needed to keep you up at your preferred sag. After installing two tokens I set my fork back up at the same sag % as I had without any tokens, and dropped about 5-10 psi. Less pressure = softer feeling at the top of the stroke and less air overall to compress at the end of the stroke. Try it out and let me know how much better it feels!

    This is a super helpful process to setting up the suspension. In terms of the sag, are you just using the weight of your body to compress the suspension? I was a little unclear with that part. Thanks - EDventure

    Noob question here. When starting off the rebound setup you say turn fully clockwise but to me it looks like you are turning it anti-clock-wise? What's the correct viewpoint? From riding position or looking from below?

      Hey Dane, glad this video help you! It's been about 3-4 years now, and we still haven't made one for a Float X2 or any shocks for that matter.
      However, this entire video is literally the exact same setup procedure for a Float X2 as it has all of the exact same adjustments with the damper, air chamber and volume spacers. If you watch this video and pretend I say "shock" instead of "fork" then it would be the exact same video and procedure 😀🤘

    such a good video!! Please can you explain why the 36 dot have a lock out. What do you do if you clim long way uphill?

    • @TheLostCo
      @TheLostCo  Год назад

      Glad you liked the video! Most forks over 130mm don't have climb switches these days because the suspension just works incredibly better than forks from the "lockout on every fork" era. The support while pedaling and range of adjustments is so much better on modern forks that you can remove a lockout to either make the damper more simple, or have more room to add more adjustments and more efficient, better performing valving.

    Great job explaining High/Low rebound and compression. I’ve always had trouble wrapping my head around these concepts and this really helped. I have a 2018 Factory 36 Fit4 can you buy the Grip2 insert and install it during next rebuild? Thanks and subscribed.

    Great tutorial. Need some help though. At 11:20 you adjust the front suspension low speed rebound and high speed rebound individually. On my Grip2 the knobs turn together. What seems to be the issue?

      Same with mine. have you found any info on this? Also as per sticker, slow and fast are opposite ways of what he mentions. Just adds to my confusion, I need another video.

      @@philbenjamin my sticker says slower is clockwise so that coresponds with his instructions (fully closed=full clockwise=slowest). However did not figure out why HSR and SSR is not individually adjustable on my fork. the HSR and LSR turns together whatever I do. I will reach out to Fox about this and provide their answer in this thread. Have a nice weekend

    According to Fox manual, 18 clicks out means fully open compression (high or low), not 6 or 10. 6 clicks out (LSC) and 10 clicks out (HSC) are recommended settings. Please correct me, if I am wrong.
