The first song he sung, Starfish and Coffee, was based on his girlfriend telling him a story about a girl called Cynthia Rose in her class at school, who had special needs. Prince told her to write the story down, then he went to his studio for a few hours and came back with the song finished. This piano segment was Prince switching gears in the middle of a 2 hour funk-rock extravaganza. You gotta watch the whloe show.
So pleased you tracked down this gem. At every show we were treated with a piano medley and it never failed to enthral. I couldn’t have put it better myself - a vessel for music. Gifted. Genius. Enigma. Words could never do him justice. It’s the feeling you get when you stagger onto the DLR at 4am after a main show, 3 encores and a 2 hour intimate aftershow, and your best friend who’d never seen Prince before turns to you and says “what on earth did we just witness?”
Mount Rushmore of live performers. I'd add James Brown, Prince & Michael and possibly Madonna. Respect to Freddy Mercury but I've only seen a limited amount of him live. I'd have Sammy Davis Jr there personally though. But like when you're at that level it's splitting hairs.
This was what he did for his final tour; just him and the piano. There’s a full audio of his final show in Atlanta floating around, which you should absolutely track down. It’s difficult to listen to just because it’s so god damn sad, but it’s some of the most vulnerable and beautiful performing he ever did.
Definitely need to track that down! Sounds awesome. It's been one of the great things about starting reactions for me, finding all these gems. I love it when artists strip everything away to just one instrument.
Mike’s right. Definitely worth checking out that full show. When Prince got home, he said he thought it was the best show he’d ever performed (maybe just a byproduct of living in the moment 😂), and he was planning on officially releasing the audio from that show. 💜
1st prince concert went to at Wembley arena, still the best out of 13 times/tours saw him. Would of been sign of times too but cancelled Wembley stadium week before
He would be arranging and choosing what to play at that time of playing. Just reacting to the audience. He had it all and very handsome too …😍 I am 71 but not dead yet.
Thank you for watching! It's insane that he designed all of his own costumes. Super glad you're not dead too, I'd be worried if you were and still able to comment 🤣
Just found your channel great seeing your Prince reactions There is one from the same concert as this video Lovesexy Fan has the clip but if you search Alphabet Street Live Dortmund 1988 this was the finale to the show that had the Piano Medley And yes did see this gig Enjoy best finale ever
Hi man, that was a fantastic reaction to the Greatest Live Performer the world has ever seen. Excellent choice to react to this one as well, keep it up. ... 💜 O(+> 4ever
And you're right the being born in the 70s we got the greats of the 60s and the 70s. but I had my teens in the 80s so we just thought this level of awesome was normal. Keep in mind, though technically it'd been around since 1973, hip-hop was just starting to make a name for itself so you also have an entirely new genre of music being invented alongside Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Van Halen, a resurgent Aerosmith, U2, Whitney Houston. Like we just thought that was normal. It's part of why older cats will shit on modern music (though there are quite a few modern artists i love for full disclosure). But, like when this is your standard the bar is high. Hell now if you're half that i'll give you some credit.
Overall this was a nice concert u Should check out the whole show, its on youtube as lovesexy 88 germany. You could probably do a reaction to the whole show, most songs are 3 to 4 min. Its a hits show. He does the songs in medley form. Jazz, blues, shreads the guitar like u said, plays basketball while the band s playing. Its the same band from "its gonna be a beautiful night" he rehearsed the material w them for the 1987 sign I the times tour, but used it a year later for the love sexy tour. Nice reaction.
The only person I can think of that comes ANYWHERE close to Prince nowadays is Bruno Mars, and as a fan of Bruno I can easily say that he still cant compare to Prince. Whether u like his music personally or not u have to admit Bruno has the voice, he's a multi-instrumentalist (and an amazing one at that), he's a great writer and producer, he can dance, and he has amazing showmanship (that man can put on one hell of a show let me tell u). But no one will ever come close to Prince. He just had something different about him.
Prince Freddy mercury David bowie MJ (UP UNTIL BAD TOUR) No disrespect to the others but neither in this list even comes close , the next best thing by a mile is freddy mercury who probably had the better vocals out of this list.. MJ was great until he quickly became mock .... i would put Elton john on the list for greatest artist
"Showmen" and you said Prince, Michael Jackson and Queen. Not bad. But there are two in that list that the only they needed to do a show and hipnotice the audience was their presence on stage, their voices and the instruments they play. Those 2 out of 3 you named don't needed ever fireworks, flying machines or an army of dancers. Are we understanding the difference between natural born showmen and what is "a show"? Are we understanding what is AN ARTIST? ;)
The maestro.
We don't need any other comments. Can we just upvote this single one?
I love strange relationship and when he gets on the piano and belts it out, it is always good.

MT. Rushmore...4 prince faces. He stands alone.
2 normal faces and 2 extreme guitar solo faces 🤣
Some more showmen: David Lee Roth, Elton John, Liberace, Little Richard, James Brown honorable mentions.
You're right: those kinda cars don't pass you every day!

Prince is his own Mt. Funkmore
Best comment!!! 🤣
You should check out the whole Lovesexy live in Dortmund concert, the best live versions of many songs.
Bruce Springsteen and Prince always shared the #1 spot of best live performers.
Honestly. Brilliant reaction.
I bought my first prince album in 82'
Each album you didn't know what you'd get, but it was always a trip.

He designed all his costumes.
Ultimate Showman #4: Elton John

Bowie is one of my favourite artists ever. Station To Station is my favourite album of him. Way ahead of his time
He never learnt to read music or write music sheets. All heard in his head. Not bad looking either which I think is relevant. Chuckle!

Frank Sinatra. Not being funny as a Prince fan, but it is what it is.🤷🏾♂️
If I had to name anyone in 2022 as a fantastic showmanship, maybe Bruno Mars, or Beyoncé?
