    Review and operation details of the Landworks 7 HP Wood Chipper by Alphaworks. Unit was purchased for small limbs routinely trimmed around the property. After a good bit of initial research, and several hours of use, I am pleased with the operation. I hope this review will help in some way.

    After I wrote the above I decided to do maintenance on mine. Here are my tips:
    1. Definitely remove the input and output components.
    2. If you are just unclogging, remove the inspection port cover.
    3. If you are going to remove the blades, then leave the inspection port cover in place and remove the entire front section from the motor section. This exposes the front and back of the blades and also the drum to which they attach. Then you can use a long prybar or screwdriver to keep the drum from turning as you loosen the blade bolts.
    - Remove the very bottom bolt first then use 4 pieces of 2x4, stacked, to prop up the engine by resting the back-plate of the drum assembly on them. Then you can remove the drum-housing and wheels all as one unit. I found a long strip of hardwood...oak probably, wrapped around the bolt that holds the drum to the motor shaft. I had previously tried to get it out through the inspection port but it was wedged in too hard. That bit of wood wedged between the center bolt's head and the outer cover caused that cover to glow red-hot...which is how I discovered it.
    Anyway... I hand-dressed the blades as they were still in very good shape and put the thing back together. I think I'll go turn big stuff into small stuff tomorrow... 🙂
    I agree with others here, always run full throttle. You'll get better results overall.

    Been waiting for a discount to come up on amazon for a few weeks now. Today was the day! $399 for Prime members! Pulled the trigger....time to chip some piles.
    Should ALWAYS run full throttle by the way. Even with the small stuff. Puts much less shock loads on the whole unit, but most importantly the crankshaft. That can be the weak spot with these direct drive chippers.
    Thanks for the video!

      good to know it's the superhandy brand. I will not buy that brand for sure. Don't feel like getting the run around when the shaft snaps. Hope it's still working for you though, helpful video.

    I've been looking at this one and appreciate your review. I want a chipper for RCW, so it needs to handle fairly small green branches, up to 1-1/2". I thought an electric one might work, but found out not on green stuff. At Amazon it says this one is for this type of material and it looks like it will do it. Thank you!

      I did buy one. I changed the link I already had over to yours. It arrived yesterday, we assembled it, and it started first pull! That's important when you are 73! My husband had some misgivings about it, so was very favorably impressed. We put a few branches through to test it, and what came out looked good. I ran out of time yesterday, but intend to give it more of a work-out today! Thanks again for the great review!

      Thanks for your comment. And for watching. I think 3” assumes an ideal piece of wood…soft wood, straight, etc. It would probably do Tallow or Sweet Gum. But I don’t need to push the limit. Big pieces go to a different pile. Same for oak (fires) and pine (composting and it doesn’t need mulching…nor would I want to with sap issues).

    Great review. How did the unit do with leaves and brush. Did you try it out on green garden waste. I imagine green plants would gum up the works.

    • @DrewLoker
      @DrewLoker  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the question and comment!! I let the brush dry out…when the leaves drop is a good time to chip. But if I do put in green leaves, they just shoot through. And sometimes need following through with sticks.

      That’s funny! Actually, it is a large cart…called a Polar Cart. But, you are correct. If you run a business, you will want a large commercial chipper. This is great for a personal chipper though. Cheers!

    Have you tried running anything green through it? I'd love to use it for my fall cleanup... emptying my urns and planters at the end of the season... could I dump green plant material into it?

    • @DrewLoker
      @DrewLoker  Год назад

      Depends on the material and what you mean as green. Just hearsay I did some tallow trees that were about down for about 2 weeks and they were perfect. The wood was still green but the leaves had dried up. Tallow is pretty soft wood and it will go through the chipped pretty much any way you put it. But if you are talking about putting too green of leafy vegetation, the chipper chute will probably just pass it right through.

    Good review and demo of the machine. Just a few questions/comments. The engine is basically a 212CC Predator, and requires a break-in period prior to full throttle use. Was that done ?? If not, engine life will be significantly shorter/less. The machine is rated for up to 3" diameter material, but have you found the machine engine will stop when fed material of that size ? I think you did well commenting about not processing green cuttings, and let them dry out prior to chipping. And with market prices at current levels ($519.99 plus tax at Walmart, Amazon), do you think the machine would ever pay for itself ??

    • @DrewLoker
      @DrewLoker  3 года назад

      Hello. I didn't run it at full throttle for the first couple of hours...so I hope that was enough. I had read about some machines needing a break-in, but this manual didn't state it...so hopefully I didn't impact it's long term performance. I don't see it doing 3" material of any wood type. Wood varies so much, it is hard to say. I have thrown a LOT of tallow tree branches, and it is really soft and goes through very easily..so maybe over 2" of really soft wood. I did put larger pieces in recently than shown in the video, but I still didn't push it too much. The sections of limbs that have branches are also going to be a lot tougher, and irregular at best with angles such that even if well prepped, are going to be tough to get down the chute. For me, it has or will pay for itself. I have a lot of low land, and chip low lying branches off of many walking paths that go through woods. So, although I have only had it for a short time, I have already enjoyed chipping the many branches that keep accumulating all the time. Before the chipper, I tried to hall the branches to a burn pile or scatter to low areas. But now I have just been setting the chipper on a path and filling in low areas. And based on the number of and the growth rate of tallow trees, I am getting some rewarding use out the machine. You can see the land I am talking about in my House Building Documentary...so you can see I have a pretty well suited place to need the machine.

      Thanks for the comment…and for watching. I think it would have to be a very select 3”…soft wood, straight. Personally, the only thing I chip is Tallow and Sweetgum. Pine goes to a pile for composting and oak goes to firewood.
