Martin is right, there is a good concept here. A few years back the IDW comics had a wonderful story showing how Cybertron was run by an oppressive govenrment that dictated people's function in society by what they transformed into. Megatron didn't like this and started a grass roots movement to undo this mentality, putting him in the crosshairs of law enforcement. Orion Pax (Optimus) ends up becoming close friends with him and believing the good of his ideals, but both end up taking drastically different approaches to change, leading to their eventual neverending war. Very Xavier/Magneto but its a great dynamic.

But that story was very dark, handling mature themes (Cybetron was a dark dystopia, with dwindling resources-some mechs even turned to cannibalism to stay alive-, a rigid caste system, and a decadent elite). This animated movie doesn't look like will take itself seriously.
Every time they shoehorn "More than meets the eye" into a modern Transformers movie, I die.
For those who don't know that before Optimus was Optimus, his name was Orion Pax. It was established in a episode of the original cartoon War dawn.

Not sure why Martin and the rest are confused by a 1980 song. Transformers is a very 80s property, and the environmental designs and colors of this movie reflect that.

Optimus and Megatron have been pre-war friends in multiple continuities so this is not strange at all.
The people complaining the most sound like they’ve only ever seen the movies. Which is funny in this case because the movies have multiple lines referencing their past “you left me no choose brother”, or “who would you be without me Prime”, or “we were brothers once”. This isn’t a weird or new concept, it was actually started in the movie franchise first before going to the other corners of the franchise. People just hate it because

Yeah it’s sad that there isn’t a lot of great writing these days especially in children’s tv shows. Like it’s very rare for great writing such as Tangled Tv series, Owl House & Amphibia. Sad that writers think they need to lower the standards to meet this generation. Glad I grew up with great shows such as Avatar, Courage the Cowardly Dog, KNKND, Proud Family & Etc.

Just to let you all know, this movie is not a comedy, the director himself said the movie will start off lighthearted and slowly get more and more intense as orion and d-16/megatron discover how corrupt their society is. They added most of the comedic bits in the trailer to appeal to the general audience, tmnt mutant mayhem and spiderverse did it too

This is for toddlers, but unlike Rescue Bots, this movie doesn’t seem all that enjoyable, so far anyway.

God I hate the Librarian origin, I preferred him being a Blue Collar dock worker. He transforms into a Truck not an book cart or computer lol. The Autobots were a Civilian Milia made up of Regular Joes and Jane's fighting back against a Military Coup that overthrew the government.

@@jaketylenol Ironically, the series Transformers Prime is a lot more grownup its its storytelling while still being a kids show. The Megatron and Optimus in that show are on point. One of the best depictions of Megatron to my knowledge. This movie does indeed look like its aimed at kids 10 years and younger.
I honestly think this looks fun. Remember when people were mixed on TMNT: Mutant Mayhem when it was revealed and then the movie came out people were like “I liked TMNT: Mutant Mayhem”. So, I think this movie maybe enjoyable.

I don’t remember a lot of people saying that movie was gonna suck. I think it’s more true that they thought it was gonna be mid or above average but never awful like this one.

I think that's the problem. They could've leaned for a stylized look like Spider-Verse, or stuck with the more realistic look like the opening to Bumblebee. What we have is a weird middleground.

Transformers g1 has always had some unintentionally funny moments at times.
I think older fans were hoping more of a High Moon Studios take like they did with the War/Fall of Cybertron games. This is aimed at the Nickelodeon crowd.

No joke, that's the first movie that came to my mind when I saw this trailer, and that's not a good sign. It's no coincidence that two of the actors from the MCU are also in this film, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johannson.
That’s really just Hollywood in general. Always using the same 20 actors in everything.
Also the comedy seems to suffer from what I describe as “Marvel Comedy syndrome.”
@@bearerofbadnews1375 I know it’s easy to make fun of the MCU because of their comedic moments, but the MCU did not invent this style of comedy. The whole “well that just happened” and “he’s right behind me, isn’t he” stuff has always been around before them. It’s just that they’re the ones who use it the most and since a generation of people grew up with the MCU for over a decade, that’s the only type of comedy people know because they don’t watch any other movies. Also, it’s the type of comedy that worked in their formula so now everyone wants to copy that because it’s given those movies money over the years.

@@Harry64278 thing with the first movie is that it was meant to be an introduction to transformers to both world of that movie and The audience who never even watch the cartoon so having focus on the humans it’s not a problem with that movie it didn’t really become a problem until the sequels came along and say what you Will about shiloh character Sam but he actually was actually a character with an actual character arc he was self-centered doofus Who when the time came did the right thing Megan Fox’s character also a character that in first movie Not only did she a lot about cars but she actually had a pretty interesting backstory about being in Juvie and her father being a car thief

As if we needed to be told a story where Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler used to be college buddies until something tore them apart and now they are leading their countries fighting each other in WWII

If He-Man was popular enough to continue on as strongly as the others, they would have gave He-Man and Skeletor the same treatment. They've done it for Splinter and Shredder in TMMT, Zordon and Rita Repulsa in the power ranger movie, they've done it time and time again in other franchises

The transformers series on Netflix was actually pretty good. They gave us a Megatron that wasn’t “just evil cause he’s evil.” They have him actual motivations. I mean, it was good till they decided to get into that whole beast wars silliness. If you want good transformers the Netflix series gives you what you are looking for

What's killing it for me is the humor. It's very... "he's right behind me, isn't he" feeling. And I'm going to need a lot of convincing on how Megatron becomes who he becomes.

Toy Story 4 was good, it just didn’t feel NECESSARY because Toy Story 3 just seemed like SUCH A PERFECT CONCLUSION and send-off to those characters.

This doesn't look or feel like those preschool or rather Playskool Transformers cartoons (which surprisingly exist). This is more for the Nick or Cartoon Network audience.
Bumblebee says badass in this trailer and people really think it’s made for babies. Light hearted humor in a kids film is nothing new and has never stopped a film from being good before. Puss in boots the last wish is filled with jokes the entire way thru, but knows when to take itself series and even deals with pretty heavy topics like extensional crisis and the fear of death himself and finding a reason to live and appreciate your life. That’s just one recent example. That movie has the cute little animals making jokes like how bumblebee is doing here. People want Michael bays transformers back now that they’ve complained too much, and what’s ironic is Michael bays transformers was nothing more then just Michael bays transformers. It doesn’t represent the franchise, it’s not what the franchise is, it’s one part of a massive franchise, and In all actuality not even 25% of this franchise has anything to do with those films. Transformers has never been one thing, not since the 80s. When money gets tight hasbro will try something different. It’s a franchise made to sell toys to children and is almost entirely consistent of children’s cartoons to tell its stories. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. I understand if the humor doesn’t look like your cup of tea, but that doesn’t mean it’s dumbed down or automatically bad.

This movie has had many leaks and test audience reports that describe it having serious moments and being dark sometimes. Pretty sure this trailer just hyped up the comedy to appeal to the masses.
I dunno about this one, the cheesy one liners, the clumsy comedy, but most importantly it seems like they're leaning too much into the funny aspect. It almost had me with the animation designs. Then they just had to throw in some jokes and to top it off W/ the ROLLING STONES😂🤷🏽♂️

@@Nightlizard1564 It had comedic elements sure, but it was not the entire thing even in G1. It took some dramatic elements very seriously that it made it endearing. To lean heavily to the humor and put the drama to the back is just insulting for this origin story.

This movie looks like it’s pre-G1, since it’s before the neverending war that takes place on Cybertron sometime after. This would make more sense for Optimus and Megatron to be best buddies at this point, because for one in alternate realities that is how they both were, and two, it gives more meaning to Megatron and his backstory as opposed to being “evil for the sake of evil” with no motivation and Optimus only being the “hero that does good” for his backstory.
We see why they were friends and how they become enemies over time. They believe in the same thing for their race of “Transformers people” but the outcomes they want for them are completely different, and I think that’s an interesting issue to watch and see how that idea evolves between both characters and how it affects the others around them.
Basically this movie (and the next two after this because it was confirmed that it’s a trilogy) will finally show the point or at least being guided in the direction of how Optimus and Megatron went from being bros to sworn enemies.
Maybe it was the war that caused it or maybe their differences were the start of the war itself. We really don’t know but there’s many avenues the plot can take to discuss that.
It’s following the canon lore from the comics which I don’t think a lot of people, especially the modern TF fans know about.
We’re still going to get the falling out and rise of Megatron by the end. I think this is just a family friendly trailer

That's not what people's problem is. In fact in this case it should be like the comics. This type of story has been done in the comics, video games, and even the later series. Fans are just concerned they took this story and made it a comedy instead of it being dark like in the previous example. But supposedly there is support to be dark parts in this so we'll just have to wait and see

I think it looks fine and clearly this is a kids movie. Not every animated film based off a beloved property needs to be SpiderVerse or TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, which I know a lot of people were expecting it to be.
Mutant Mayhem had far worse humor than this does.

One origin has it that the constructicons or constructicon like robots built Megatron, and he came off the assembly line evil. I actually like that origin best
Look, after years of jive-talking robots who fart parachutes, hump women's legs, and wave their wrecking ball testicles while peeing on award-nominated actors, this really doesn't bother me that much. The animation looks good, we're finally focusing on the Transforners for once, and some of the comedy is pretty alright. Biggest red flags are understandably the more buddy-cop tone and the celebrity voice actors. For now, I'm cautiously optimistic and I'll judge it once I see it in the theaters :)

Rise of the Beast IMO is the best execution of Transformers today. If they just leaned away from Bayverse Prime, they're all good.

Every time they open their mouths, all I can envision is Chris Hemsworth or Scarlett Johansson half heartedly reading their lines off an iPad in their closet. Feel like lotta people are disappointed since everyone thought it’d be like the first 5 minutes of bumblebee with those insanely good design and action. Hopefully this lives up a little to it.
Here’s the thing. I’m fine with the movie since it’ll finally take place on cybertron and the animation looks absolutely beautiful. I will say one concern that I have is the plot. In terms of a backstory I wish they would’ve went the TFP route with megatron being a gladiator wanting equal rights for cybertronians and Optimus being a novice being fascinated with the planets history. It would’ve been soo compelling and complex had they gone that route. With this film I’m still interested but people are hating on it waaaaay too early considering the test screenings were positive saying that the comedy is there but also has serious moments when needed too.
There like 6 different origins each gen gets their own origins and new comics this is clearly for the alpha crowd

They target new young fans. Fully animated. Origin story. No humans. Before the war. Optimus and megatron were friends before. So I'm okay with this. It's something new
yeah..because the transformers cartoon from your childhood have such great writing. it really was the last airbender before last airbender is a thing.
and who can forget those 5 or 6 big budget bayformers, with each sequel garnering higher critical rating than the previous one. it's baffling the series never won an oscar since it's so universally lauded.
This makes me miss Transformers Prime even more. That one did justice to most of the important characters while still being a kids show.

I know this is aimed at kids but I would've hated this as a kid. Even when I was 4 I liked Transformers best as a gritty war story. I always hated when they tried to appeal to me with goofy humor.
I watched the original Teansformers growing up, Out of everything I saw in THIS episode, the one thing that caught my attention the most was.....that Castle Geeyskull Boxset!!! Maaan, you hit me with all kinds of nostalgia right there!
Flashed me back to my backyard, where I had that playset in my sandbox, with He-Man fighting Skeletor at the top, and Thundercats were storming the front door...yyeahh, my sandbox was a multiverse before the multiverse (crashed, lol).
