I highly recommend Lawrence Anthony’s book “The Elephant Whisperer”. It tells this story and so many more that show how intelligent elephants are.
Especially amazing is how they knew he had passed away when he was out of the country and even now visit his home on the anniversary of his death. I have never seen an elephant consulting a calendar yet they manage to show up every year at exactly that date. How do they know? Utterly amazing!

What people may not know... but this man most probably has one of the purest Souls anyone would meet on earth. It is the prerequisite testament necessary to have such a deep connection with one let alone so many Elephants. The Elephant has been gifted with an insight beyond any other species other than Humans. Actually to clarify, not beyond, because it does not exist period in any other species but these two (unless you include all Anthropoids from ages ago, but humans would be the only ones presently from that group).
Conclusion, this story is absolutely amazing... but it’s just a fragment of the mysterious capabilities of these ancient mammals. It's unfathomable to understand the true harmonic unity they have with the Universe.

How would elephants know when an anniversary occurs if they were not as intelligent as humans? They should be reclassified as ‘non-human persons,’ along with most dolphins and whales. This classification already exists in four countries.

I remember a dear Maltese dog that went blind, and his little friend, Meg, a similar specie, “ herded” him during its walks so that he wouldn’t hurt himself. When the blind dog died, Meg sat in his basket and mourned it. So touching! 🙏🌷

Mr. Anthony talked about the defining moment with Nana. He said she walked up to the fence, ready to tear it down to get out. He saw her intention and walked over and calmly asked her to please accept this place as her new home and told her all of them would be killed if she broke out. She paused and then extended her trunk in friendship and acceptance. As we’ve come to know, elephants can read our emotions and I believe that’s exactly what she did.

Absolutely wonderful. How things like this happen is just phenomenal. And more of them need to happen, given the other part of the story - so many "hunters" showing up "wanting" to shoot them, others wanting to enslave them in circuses, etc. That's the part I really can't believe or get my head around. I always said there should be a "hunting season on hunters," AND circuses need to be closed down for good - except the kind that involve ONLY humans. .

The elephant is one of my favorite animals in the world, if it weren't for Lawwrence that herd would have killed off with 24 hours, if he didn't act accordingly to save them he risked his life to show to them that he cared and after his death, they come every year to show him dignity that he showed them, it was truly a powerful story for the man and the animal kingdom.

Do you only equation that I can come up with is perhaps a 50 foot snake rusting in the top of a 30 foot tree canopy sunning itself chasing something could reach half its body length given a firm enough branch to lunge from.. if it were a venomous breed it would only need to clear a few more feet to raise it’s Neurotoxic venom acts on the nervous system, including the brain. Cytotoxic venom has a localized action at the site of the bite.
From the vantage point looking down, it may have appeared that the snake was 100 feet long. I would certainly surprise someone flying anything to see a snake in the air. ..
