This lovely touching story told in an extremely warm and loving, together with enough humor full way really caught me. Couldn't stop reading and left me in tears....
Amazing account. If only people were that patient and displayed love like that with different people. What a beautiful place this earth would be. Caring, mutual understanding and wanting desperately to understand and love.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I highly recommend Lawrence Anthony’s book “The Elephant Whisperer”. It tells this story and so many more that show how intelligent elephants are. Especially amazing is how they knew he had passed away when he was out of the country and even now visit his home on the anniversary of his death. I have never seen an elephant consulting a calendar yet they manage to show up every year at exactly that date. How do they know? Utterly amazing!
I believe the Colonel they’re referring to is Peter Bell, the technical genius of the Bell international heavy equipment, vehicle manufacturer, and Expert game capture pilot… no?
What people may not know... but this man most probably has one of the purest Souls anyone would meet on earth. It is the prerequisite testament necessary to have such a deep connection with one let alone so many Elephants. The Elephant has been gifted with an insight beyond any other species other than Humans. Actually to clarify, not beyond, because it does not exist period in any other species but these two (unless you include all Anthropoids from ages ago, but humans would be the only ones presently from that group). Conclusion, this story is absolutely amazing... but it’s just a fragment of the mysterious capabilities of these ancient mammals. It's unfathomable to understand the true harmonic unity they have with the Universe.
Thank you! I’ve listened to all of Lawrence Anthony’s books. This is spectacular .. to connect with David.. rip magnificent Lawrence. Thank you for your work.
What a true hero Laurence was, and inspired others . I just saw another video showing that he saved the Baghdad zoo, during the war. The American Army assisted him. RIP Lawrence, and all the peacekeepers/caretakers of God’s beautiful creation.✨💗🌅
What a touching moment when the elephant touched Lawrence's head and trust began at that moment! I love elephants! I recorded a song called "Jumbo" all about my favorite circus elephant, and after seeing your wonderful video I will add Elephant Whisperer to my list of favorite elephants too!
A remarkable Conservationist who will be remembered for ever ever and ever. He is the champion of wildlife conservation and a precious gem of this planet. A godly soul.🙏
Not seen this particular video yet. But written about Lawrence & the elephants KNOWING when he had passed, in my book. Incredibly beautiful story. 🌹 God bless you Lawrence 🙏🏻
Animals are so much more intuitive and smarter than they’re given credit for. They need & deserve love just like humans & these magnificent elephants recognize those with kind caring hearts from those with evil intent immediately. God Bless Lawrence & those who helped love & care for these & all creatures! 💜🐘💜
To have the heart of an elephant is everything! Oh how I wish I had that opportunity to make a change... Vale Lawrence you work here is done.. Let those who you taught to carry on your mission...Love from Australia!
What terrible people who offer to kill such beautiful animals! God I hope they get punished in some way for being so cold and cruel. Thank you so much for all you do and Laurence’s a pure angle.
I was so delighted to see this after reading the book The Elephant Whisperer. I loved the caring and generous nature of Lawrence toward his herd of elephants. Their antics never made him change his mind. What a great story to discover which gives you hope.... I keep telling folks to read this book and when they do they are so delighted to learn about Thula Thula.
How would elephants know when an anniversary occurs if they were not as intelligent as humans? They should be reclassified as ‘non-human persons,’ along with most dolphins and whales. This classification already exists in four countries.
they didnt know the date exactly, but they posses instinct like all animals mostly , 1 year is pretty important period for everyone's life, especially for animals who have to plan how they will survive winter. the most unbelievable part for me is how they felt death of their friend. elephants are beautiful and so is life
@@strahinja369 ..I agree. Most animals “ know” when someone is sad or Ill. I remember a dear Maltese dog that went blind, and his little friend, Meg, a similar specie, “ herded” him during its walks so that he wouldn’t hurt himself. When the blind dog died, Meg sat in his basket and mourned it. So touching! 🙏🌷
Mr. Anthony talked about the defining moment with Nana. He said she walked up to the fence, ready to tear it down to get out. He saw her intention and walked over and calmly asked her to please accept this place as her new home and told her all of them would be killed if she broke out. She paused and then extended her trunk in friendship and acceptance. As we’ve come to know, elephants can read our emotions and I believe that’s exactly what she did.
The Elephant Whisperer is a wonderful read. Well written with many stories of the African Bush interwoven with the central thread of the incredible integration of the herd at Thula Thula. A remarkable man. Was sad to find on completing the book that he passed away in 2012.
I just read, in a comment here on Utube, that, as he died, all his elephants apparently came to his house to grief. Dunno if its true, but thats why I googled him and ended up watching this video.
How did they know he died? Let alone returning every year on the anniversary of his death which is amazing, but I have heard they walked two miles to the cabin on the day of his death. How did they know that he had died from 2 miles away?
They knew when he would come home from a trip.. they knew when his grandchildren were born.. they knew when he worked to heal their own baby calf.. they knew where to go when the wildfire broke out.. they knew the instant they needed to charge an elephant trying to attack Lawrence.. they have intuition on some things that spans the surface of that geography.
Amazing we humans underestimate animals but what puzzles me most is when he suddenly died how did they know? because they came to his residence and stayed for 2 days ( wake) and how do they understand his death anniversary??? because it is said they come once a year
Absolutely wonderful. How things like this happen is just phenomenal. And more of them need to happen, given the other part of the story - so many "hunters" showing up "wanting" to shoot them, others wanting to enslave them in circuses, etc. That's the part I really can't believe or get my head around. I always said there should be a "hunting season on hunters," AND circuses need to be closed down for good - except the kind that involve ONLY humans. .

The elephant is one of my favorite animals in the world, if it weren't for Lawwrence that herd would have killed off with 24 hours, if he didn't act accordingly to save them he risked his life to show to them that he cared and after his death, they come every year to show him dignity that he showed them, it was truly a powerful story for the man and the animal kingdom.
Well look at THAT!! 😳🤯 A human interacting w elephants WITHOUT a damn BULL HOOK! IMAGINE THAT!?? 😳 Smfh some 'people' believe it can't be done! These folks r living proof! ❤️😊
WHEN WILL HUMANS LEARN THAT LOVE IS THE ONLY WAY TO EVERYTHING!!!! GOD DESIGNED IT THAT WAY!!!! LOVE IS THE DRIVING FORCE FOR ALL CREATURES, ESPECIALLY HUMANS!!!!

Do you only equation that I can come up with is perhaps a 50 foot snake rusting in the top of a 30 foot tree canopy sunning itself chasing something could reach half its body length given a firm enough branch to lunge from.. if it were a venomous breed it would only need to clear a few more feet to raise it’s Neurotoxic venom acts on the nervous system, including the brain. Cytotoxic venom has a localized action at the site of the bite. From the vantage point looking down, it may have appeared that the snake was 100 feet long. I would certainly surprise someone flying anything to see a snake in the air. ..

Wish he had lived many many more years. Always tear up when I read this story. People like him are not many in this world.
The elephants who were mistreated by humans. Yet Lawrence was able to establish a bound with them. Very profound. ♥️
