It's interesting to see Armand talk about how Claudia's mind is so fragile and easy to break and the next minute he's forcing her to live in a constant state of dysphoria and having to act out a suicide every single play.
@@maevem316 my thought while watching the episode was that he held on to his conviction about her doomed fate (that he told Louis about in the sewer in ep. 3) so strongly he would’ve rather it happened sooner than later, so he’s been trying to make her break faster; it certainly seems a cruel way to go about it

The bird symbolism for Claudia has been there since season one. One of her journals has birds on it, the scene with Louis breaking the birds wings and putting them in Claudia’s room for her, Lestat going after her on the train with the phrase “get back in your cage.” She has always been a caged bird
i had the same thought about Armand's indifference to Claudia's pain---he accepted his exploitation centuries ago to survive, and literally can't understand why it would bother Claudia so much

@@foxtaco100% agree!!! The theatre des vampires was in the book but it was 19thc, not 1940s. The show modeled the TDV on the Grand-Guignol, which specialized in horror shows from 1892-1962 that titillated the viewers.

@@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 hrm, i was never a particularly ardent fan of Anne rice or the books, and I'm not 100% sure but my understanding from lurking around the Internet about this TV show is that she and her son had input (and he wrote the pilot script) when the rights to the show were with a different network (Hulu I think?) but then that didn't work out and AMC bought it and paid for full creative freedom and gave it to Rollin and his writers to adapt as they please and they wrote own pilot/scripts and the Rice family hasn't actually had any real creative input in this version.
As a fan of IWTV (the book) for the past 40+ years, I really enjoy your discovery and discussion about the show. Your insights are very thoughtful and insightful. Let this entertain you as the story has entertained me for over 4 decades. You won’t be disappointed.
"She's taking the abuse in stride" in 2x03 is such a telling line from Armand. He says it with such pride in his voice too, like it's the highest compliment he could give someone. And as soon as Claudia stops taking it in stride, his attitude towards her changes. I do believe he genuinely sees himself as being charitable here because of the kind of horrors he's seen and experienced, both in slavery and in the Children of Darkness cult, so in his mind of course Claudia should be grateful that he's not worse. Just like he was grateful to Marius for not being worse. Still abuse though, Armand!
I saw a comment about his mindset once that said since Armand endured abuse as a child prostitute, in his mind Claudia should be okay with doing something she doesn't want to do for 15 minutes. It's beyond messed up and he's wrong for what he's doing to her but I get it when it's explained like that. I also think he was trying to harm her because of her place in Louis' life.
@@moderndaymedusa82 Exactly, he's probably like "ONLY 15 minutes of degradation per day? Lucky girl!" And making her wear the costume all day to illustrate the point is such a fitting punishment too. He's pretty much always wearing a 'costume' too, playing a role because that's all he knows how to do without a real identity of his own. There's a messed up logic to everything he does.
Keep pausing and talking! We're here for the commentary!!! I just love how the show makes us go 'ohh poor things' with some aspects of the characters, then a couple minutes later, they remind us of how powerful and kind of crazy they can be. They suffered a lot, for sure, but none of them are 'poor things'. And YES!!!! The actors are so good, I can't even take it. Since I know you already watched it, I'm gonna say I think episode 5 has the potencial to be one of your favorites! It's certainly one of mine! The way Assad said 'THE NAME'???? No, sir, I can't. We'll miss you and the IWTV reaction for the next 3 weeks, but I hope you and your girlfriend have an amazing time together during the visit.
Fam! Now imagine having to wait a week after that cliffhanger!!! It was torture!! Yo, I know your reaction to Episode 5 is gonna go CRAZY!! I’m already anticipating the insane amount of pauses!! Enjoy your time with your girlfriend!!
You were so quick on the draw for noticing that the reason why Louis cannot make an artistic connection is because of what he's become! This is something explicit Anne Rice wrote about her vampires, that they lose something inherent to humanity and most notably shows itself through the arts. Without spoiling anything, and you can revisit this after the season ends and you watch the season 3 trailer, I think both Rice and the show runners make it very clear what the difference between soulless and soulful art is.
Louis & Armand are each other's red flags. Louis the former pimp, Armand the former prost*tute. + There's a saying that journalism is the 2nd oldest profession, (the 1st being prost*tuition). So that really speaks to Louis/Armand/Daniel dynamic.
"Nobody has painted for over 400 years" nobody has told he what he is or what he has to be, Armand don't have a identity. All his life he was told who he was, when he say he don't know, he really don't. He was Arun, but he don't even is certain that was his name, he don't remember anymore, he was YOUNG in the series and in the books even more(12yrs old I think?) It was 500 years ago. Then he was Amadeo, the identity that Marius gave him, a name the Marius chose, he behaved how Marius wanted and "liked" what Marius liked. Than he was Armand, once again, for the third time, the Rome coven stripped his "identity" and gave him a new role, a new name. He hasn't learned how to be anything other than what imposed to him
Armand, Louis, and Lestat all choked Claudia. Literally, all the men in her life failed her. Moreover, Louis's reluctance to accept Armand as his companion isn't about his struggle with being openly gay, but rather about his feelings not being strong enough for Armand. The show has demonstrated his inability to say "I love you" to those he truly cares for (Lestat and Claudia.) It's evident to us that he loves them deeply, but he never actually tells them those three words. This struggle has been confirmed to be rooted in his past experience, as the last person he said "I love you" to (Paul) died right away after hearing it. When he says "I love you" to Armand and Dreamstat laughs at that, it shows that his words weren't genuine. He just didn't mean it. Please, keep on talking and don't hold back. That's exactly why we're here, to hear your insightful thoughts. 🥰
When dream Lestat says “ speaking of poor decisions “ as Claudia marches into the room to challenge Louis about sharing their most devastating secret with Armand. This therefore is Louis thought because Lestat is after all not really there. Louis has this thought at the sound of her voice, before she reveals the full details of events . In that moment the anger that he sometimes holds for Claudia leaked.
Or it's Louis' perception of how Lestat feels about Claudia... Considering he didn't want to turn her in the first place and called her a mistake in S1
@@Abby-no7qkDreamStat is the manifestation of Louis’ feelings of guilt, grief, anger and indifference. The “breakup” scene with DreamStat makes that clear those were Louis’ inner thoughts all along.

This was a wild episode, right? So many delicious threads to tug on and question, and like you, I was grateful to see more of Armand's background and leadership style, and have Claudia call out Louis out on not warning her that his latest beau is armed with some dangerous knowledge! Breaks my heart to see them fight, but it needed to be said! Lestat's humour in this ep brings much-needed levity, yet he still brought me to tears as Louis bids him farewell! Thanks for filming this despite the drag of a long day - we know the effort it takes! And it may sound cruel to say this but seeing your acute distress over the abrupt ending was nothing short of HILARIOUS!! But I get it! Everyone involved with this show takes a sick delight in toying with our emotions any chance they get - and as Santiago would say, I LOVE them for it!! Enjoy the break, you deserve it after the stress of this ep, and meanwhile the rest of us unlucky enough to only be able to follow you on YT will try to replicate Lestat's 'capacity for enduring!' Always appreciate your thoughts - no matter how many pauses are involved! 🌮
The series writers ate off of Anne Rice and they served us in this whole venture .......they made everything even more and more desperate out of the tragedy that Anne wrote....wonderful show
Lol, everyone hates that cliffhanger. It's hard to comment at this point on your commentary because you're smart and I feel like I'll inadvertently give away something through tone or implication and you'll pick up on it. So totally get staying away from comments. But i can say that my favorite thing about your reactions is you always start saying you're gonna try to not pause a lot. Then you do, apologize and say you’ll stop and then you do it again. Cause you can't help yourself and i totally get it. No need to apologize or stop pausing - you pausing and discussing or losing your mind over something is my favorite part of your reactions. Enjoy your time off too!
I can't speak for everyone else but I think the pauses are fine. All of us have seen the episodes so we're really just here for you to talk about what you think. You can't do that unless you pause :)
I think your comment section is less explosive because the type of reactor breeds their own comment section. You're very thoughtful and empathetic, so the viewers that comment here are also thoughtful and empathetic. You look at things from all angles and encourage us to discuss, instead of making blunt statements about any one character that could cause the reactionary responses you see elsewhere 😊
I always appreciate a comment from you Saiyan🙏🏿🌹 and thank you. ( I've stopped myself numerous times from venting to you about my grievances because I feel like you really understand my unspoken thought process. It's becoming a struggle to keep suppressing it lol 🫠🫠) 🤣🤣🤣 anways thanks for stopping by
Lol the I DONT WANNA TALK I WANNA WATCH THE NEXT ONE is so valid, Im hyped as hell from that Ep5 preview So yeah, now you know: Armand's a mess. He can't even conceptualize his own identity, and only sees himself through the roles he is expected to play or the way others percieve him (and doesn't that just make him being whitewashed in the painting extra painful). Your take on Louis calling him Arun is... not common. Cause on the surface it seems considerate, but Armand doesn't actually remember his family calling him that. He remembers that name from when he was enslaved at a brothel. And that combined with Louis putting on his old pimp "used to be real good at running things" persona with a former sex slave?! Louis!!! My dearest guy!! Do not!
Anne writes some of the best characters. They truly feel alive when reading from their perspective. I hope you read her works. Or audiobooks if your eyes wont allow. I absolutely cannot WAIT for your reactions to the last couple episodes. No awards because of the time of year it aired and it didn't get submitted for award consideration in time. I hope the next one is. This show deserves ALL the EMMYS.
Oh yeah. Yep. That ending really did make me rip my hair out with impatience at the time. And thats without even mentioning how dramatically shifted the relationships are in the actual episode. I have seen people siding with louis (not that im saying hes entirely in the wrong) regarding reactions to Claudia's turmoil in the coven. Like yeah she made that bed. But i cant get over the fact that claudia has been more than clear with everyone what she truly wants and its respect and understanding! God there really is so much going on in this episode, just incredible stuff. And yeah. Episode 5 is insane. Im so pumped for your next reaction.
Armand has some serious power. Like Santiago said, his maker gave him certain gifts. As any maker would pass on certain dark gifts, not all but some. It depends on the vampire. Armand can stop time with a lot of people/vampires in it. Remember that. I never trusted Armand either, even after I read The Vampire Armand, another of Anne Rice's books. Dreamstat is the best!! So funny! One of my favorite lines from Claudia....."Oh, I forgot, love makes you stupid!" Lol Next episode.....epic! Enjoy!
Enjoy your time with your GF will be here. Even patreons we can wait brother. Now as far as this episode goes you did some really amazing work as always. You brought your A game and continously point out things i missed or needed a few watches to see.(ive already watched the patreon version 3 times😂 just like to come here and read comments). Would love to Moderate if you're looking for more
Armand has always been a slave, or subservient to someone else, or a servant/leader to the coven, so he's never been able to develop his own personality. He has no clue about who he is or what he really wants. He's always been in control, even though he's just a servant. But does that Rome coven even exist anymore, the one that assigned him to the Paris coven? He's on auto-pilot when he's with the coven, but when he's with Lestat or Louis, for a brief moment, he get's to be someone else, but he still has strict rules. Armand is a fascinating character, and Assad Zaman is doing a phenomenal job, and makes the character way more interesting than he was in the books, for me anyway.
A fun/messed up thing to consider about Claudia and Madeleine's friendship is that Madeleine is probably in her mid-to-late 20s. And if we count up her years as a mortal and a vampire all together, Claudia would be in her late 40s at this point. There's a possibility that on some level, Claudia is old enough to be Madeleine's mother. 😵💫
I feel like louis calling armand by the name he was sold into slavery is kind of weird. I feel like the pimp inside of him came out just now 😅 And also considering that Armand calls louis maitre (master), also in the present armand playing louis loyal servant as rashid (“i serve to a god”). Idk if it is some bdsm shit but it just makes me sad that armands still carries that part of his abuse at the hands of marius even after 500 years. Even as powerful as he is, even as a coven master… In the rest of the season there are few more instances where it feels like it but i wont spoil it.
I mean, Taco is right to be fair, it's also what was, as far as Armand knows, the name he was probably given by his parents. I still can never fully tell what to make of this scene tbh, because they absolutely have some BDSM shit going on, but you'd think he'd be calling him Amadeo if we were going with the dynamic Armand had with his maker, but no, they go with Arun....
It was an unfortunately common thing to have happen during wartime in Paris... Sleeping with soldiers for food or just companionship... But it DOESN'T mean that they support the soldiers cause... The general public unfortunately didn't see it that way and just saw them as N@zi sympathizers... And we see how they treated those women even years after.
To be fair tho up until that point Armand had always been very composed around Louis, and Louis didn’t see Armand attacking Claudia with his own eyes. While Lestat’s behaviour around Louis was often unhinged.
@@_carrot__cake_ 100% Armand is pretty open with his verbal/emotional abuse towards Claudia in regards to the theaters hazing rituals... But he's very sneaky about his physical abuse. Cause as you mentioned Louis never sees it with his own eyes... whereas Lestat was kind of just open about ALL of it lmaoo

It's becoming a struggle to keep suppressing it lol 🫠🫠) 🤣🤣🤣 anways thanks for stopping by
Woo hoo! That cliff hanger! ❤ This is so exciting! 🙌
Hey Leslie 😊
i loooove your reaction videos i always get a new takeaway every time I watch one
For the algorithm and another great review and reaction. Keep going and enjoy the mess that is sooooo very good in season two.
oh you will love Madeleine even more later!
she's a great GREAT character
Yes she's in my top 3 currently
Lol the I DONT WANNA TALK I WANNA WATCH THE NEXT ONE is so valid, Im hyped as hell from that Ep5 preview
So yeah, now you know: Armand's a mess.
Do not!
As always! Thank u for the reaction! 💜💜💜
You're very welcome🌹♥️
@@foxtaco now rest ur eyes 💜
Bro this three week wait going to kill me and I cannot afford patreon gonna have to watch you watch episode five from beyond the grave
Add me on discord..I'll see what I can do for you. Discord: FoxTaco
Thank you, Raymond! 🧛♀ Enjoy your visit with your girlfriend. We'll be here when you have more time.
You're welcome 😊🙏🏿

I had to wait a whole week after that bullshit ending! Haha!
Pppfttt🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh yeah.
The play, song and line you like is not Anne Rice, but just elevates the material.
Enjoy!
The next episode is the best, I'm so excited lol
Make sure to listen to Raleigh Ritchie's song Love is Dumb after this episode 😹
Enjoy your time with your GF will be here. Even patreons we can wait brother.
Now as far as this episode goes you did some really amazing work as always. You brought your A game and continously point out things i missed or needed a few watches to see.(ive already watched the patreon version 3 times😂 just like to come here and read comments). Would love to Moderate if you're looking for more
Moderator access granted thanks man 🙏🏿😊
great job, sir!...
Armand is Sam Jackson in Django. You were born in, raised abused by the worst, but turned into it to keep yourself safe within that power structure
You are right 🎯
Armand a House nig*a?? Lol kidding lol
I live for it! 😹🙌
Great reaction!!! Enjoy the time with your GF!
Aww! Im gonna miss you but I totally understand!!
In the mean time Feank freezy Movieman101 and minas Spookies all have great reactions going on to iwtv
Amazing reaction as always man! Love your thoughts about this show!
Have a great one with your gf :)
Thank you 🙏🏿♥️
Armand has always been a slave, or subservient to someone else, or a servant/leader to the coven, so he's never been able to develop his own personality.
Also, arun is what they called him in the brothel as well, so it was massively fucked up on Louis end to say that to get his way
I feel like louis calling armand by the name he was sold into slavery is kind of weird.
What sort of movies/shows does your girlfriend like? Cuz the 'Mr & Mrs 🐕🌮 Show' sounds pretty freaking good!
The Madeline story sounds similar to Coco Chenel story.
I hated how differently Louis reacted to when Armand put his hands on Claudia compared to when Lestat put his hands on Claudia.
To be fair tho up until that point Armand had always been very composed around Louis, and Louis didn’t see Armand attacking Claudia with his own eyes. While Lestat’s behaviour around Louis was often unhinged.
Yup... It shows how he views Lestat and Armand differently... And just how his relationship with Claudia has shifted over time, as well.
It almost makes you wonder if 77 years with Armand has colored feelings about certain memories over other memories...
