Driving in manual mode - agree, it will be better for a 0-100 timed run. Shifting to manual mode to make it longer to up-shift in a turbo-diesel? No. Verna 1.6D AT's D mode shifts late when you floor it. It actually shifts so late that there is no usable power left to continue the punch which it had, in the 3000rpm region. So, shifting to manual mode is necessary to make the shifts earlier, so that there is continued punch to accelerate is quicker than D mode with WOT. Tried and tested. Manual mode would be useful in an NA petrol to delay the shifts than D mode. In a turbo diesel, we don't want the rpm to climb up to useless high rpm region, unless you have an aggressive remap to jack up the FRP in the higher rpm range.
@@Sleeperknot Hi, in an Automatic car, if we put it to manual mode means, will it upshift the gear automatically based on high speeds? i heard that it only downshift gears if we slowdown. pz explain.

You don't have automatic cars in formula 1 right? In acceleration you cannot compete with manual because you put extra pressure on the engine to perform at a higher level. Not sure why people will want to prove an automatic car to be more fast. Manual is control on the car. Automatic is comfort. Especially in hilly areas going up and more specifically going down, the gears in MT practically work as brakes reducing chances of brake failures or overheating.
Hi Ashwin, full RPM in a diesel does not necessarily benefit it. Rather staying in the torque band is faster. Please watch my other video where i tested this and full RPM was slower manual shifts. ruclips.net/video/te87uxp55Eg/видео.html
@@MandeepKaliraman You have understood torque all wrong then. Torque band gives you the information regarding the maximum torque per crank delivered. Near the redline, although a lower torque per crank of the engine is delivered, the overall rotating force sent to the wheels is larger because the engine is revving faster and more torque is delivered per time to the wheels. Its the same reason why petrol cars which produce a lower torque than an identical power producing diesel stays along or even surpasses the latter in outright acceleration. Therefore it is always beneficial to rev till the redline in any car for quickest acceleration.

This is because the AT shifts really really late into the RPM range when floored in D mode. This is a bad thing in the Verna AT Diesel. The shifts can be done a little earlier by the TCU but that is not the way Hyundai programmed that transmission sadly. Would be interesting if you use manual mode in the AT and make the shifts right after the turbo punch is over, instead of waiting all the way till 4150 rpm for the D mode to make the shift. I have a Stage1 Wolf'ed Verna AT Diesel which does 0-100kmph in 8.3 seconds in D mode. Manual mode can do it still better. ruclips.net/video/MnXsc3w05Ys/видео.html
I've also got a Verna Diesel AT still stock as of now atleast until the warranty ends, the thing I wanted to ask you is that can the TC handle more power? Like a Stage 1+ or something similar which isn't too agressive but still punchy enough. I think the reliability of that TC which is one of the things that made me buy Verna over other diesel ATs could be a bit reduced due to the increased wear and tear on the gearbox.
@@nachikets3x Can TC handle more power? Answer depends on how much more power it has to handle, I guess. In the case of a Stage1 remap, we are talking about an increase of about 25% (max) in torque and bhp. (155 bhp / 320Nm). To my knowledge, this same TC is used in some other cars whose engines are outputting similar figures in stock condition. So I tend not to worry too much about it and I just enjoy the car. I may not plan for a stage2 immediately. Will warranty be void? Technically, yes. However, it is hard to find out unless there is a specific check carried out to detect a remap. It won't show up in regular ECU scans. It will not increment the flash counter too, since it is not an OBD based remap. If you're approaching a tuner, make sure they know what they are doing. A remap wasn't available from any of those tuners who just know how to flash a file, when I checked. (It was available for MT though). Then I met Rajiv (Wolf), he coded the map specific to my needs and now I have a proper tailor made remap for Verna 1.6D AT. Same file is flashed onto one of my friends AT 1.6D too.
@@Sleeperknot Thank you for the quick response! I am a bit wary of doing anything to void the warranty, haven't even upgraded the projector bulbs into strong HIDs. Reliability is a must since the car is used by everyone in my family and they don't want to deal with unnecessary expenses/issues that might pop up.
@@nachikets3x Cool. A remap in an NA petrol (in case of City) and a turbo-diesel would be two completely different animals. You would get torque that's too addictive, in the turbo-diesel.
