    There's an old story about a guy who was leading one of the biggest Alliances in the game, who just faded away & left. His Alliance failed soon after. Turns out, he met someone in game, they fell in love, & got married.
    THAT is 'winning Eve'.

    Account created in 2016, played for a month, started playing for real in 2020.
    Moved to null, got a capital ship, fought in large battles.
    I definetly consider myself "new" still.
    This game is awsome :P

    For me Eve Online is more than a game. Its like a second life for me. A life that is a thousand times better than the one im living. A life that is fun and thrill centered. It takes awhile to find what you want to do in New Eden and consider it the passing into a deeper part of the game you couldnt see as a beginner. I dont think there is really an ending rather than an ever constant day by day second life I check up on occasionally through the day.

    I’ve been playing on and off since 2003. I do totally agree with what you are saying.
    I would also add that that feeling of winning encounter in this game is no one near any other you can have in any other game.
    The time and effort put into creating content for yourself, tackling a hard encounter, the feeling of loss and success is just out of this world, making this game worth playing in the end.

    • @umadbroimatroll7918
      @umadbroimatroll7918 3 месяца назад +2

      Like eve, I'd argue model trains do have an "endgame" which would be making a multi stop massive automatic train set with multiple trains and automatic signals so they dont crash. But does that mean everyone should shoot for that goal? No, because making a single loop train is enough for many. I made a very similar comment but about eve instead of the train analogy

    A nice early-ish goal I normally tell people starting out is to pick two cruisers they think look cool, then aim to get lvl 3 proficiency in the one you like best. I say pick two just in case you don't like the weapon system of one. OR if you aren't into missions or pvp, try to get the skills required to fly a t2 exploration frig or exhumer, while learning how to make money exploring or mining.
    I recently finished my recent goal of Skilling into a marauder and giving missions a serious try 10 years after starting playing (with some breaks). That's the the other piece (which you correctly call out): after you finish one goal, pick another one to work toward, there's a lot out there!

    My wife and I are new players. ourselves. Having only played about a months some. In another game we play. We are vets who help new players get a start. Like Eve it is a very niche game with a steep learning curve. The advert of 'this game, you are not ready for" is a warning and not a challenge. I have seen a few posts of new player giving up because they thought or perhaps believed this game would be like say the star wars game or maybe the star trek game. Its not. This game is about taking your own initiative and working towards what ever it is you want to do in the game.
    There is the crux. The game holds your hand through the first twenty or thirty minutes. Gets you to the first station to start missions and then that is it. You have to be a person that can take things on your own imitative. One must be a self starter. There is a lot of things one an do. One has to manage expectations and understand it is deadly out there. Every time you undock you are agreeing to that danger.
    A player must be willing to accept the inevitable mistakes and the random things that will occur. Such as a ganker showing up in highsec. Trying to chase you down. Happened to my wife the other day. She eventually stayed docked and did a mission where she worked on a blue print. She eventually undocked and went back to mining. She is in a venture with the crap civilian rail gun. Barely adequate for the NPC pirates, but certainly not against a ganker.
    As for goals. Mining and exploring on the side. Maybe research as well.

    I consider someone stopping being a new player when they have found an isk making niche or gameplay loop to fund their own ships. When you know what to do to fund your favorite type of content, then I think you've shaken off the newbro status.

      @Ferovax @@bucklinfondue - if I may, this really is the best way to get started. Pick something you enjoy doing, and just dive in. Fully get "stuck in" as the British say. Consume all the media & content around that thing, practice, & play.
      For instance, I started mining very early in the game, learning a ton as I went. I asked questions on Fleets & simply experimented until I found what works for me. Somewhere along the way, it became fun.

    • @Nabekukka
      @Nabekukka 3 месяца назад +1

      Honestly, the best thing to do is to talk to people, and don't try to take everything in all at once, that's how you get overwhelmed.
      Pick an easy activity and do that for a while, see how you like it. When you're familiar and comfortable with it, see if there's something else that might also float your boat, generate your mass effect field, be your cup of tea. You can combine stuff to create variety as you go along.
      But the main thing is, talk to other people, most of the time it's more fun to ask somebody a question than to try to find something from a wiki by yourself, that's how you get to talk to others, and maybe form connections.
      Sometimes an encounter with another player doesn't go smoothly, no matter what, but most of the time even the guy who just blew you up are kinda chill if you talk to them after the fight. The way I view EVE is that it's a social game, first and foremost. Most of the activities you can do in-game are more fun when done with others. Unless you're a lone wolf type of person, which is a valid way to play the game too, talk to other players and see how that goes.

    I like the take: “you are no longer new when you can create content for yourself and others in a specific niche.”

  • @umadbroimatroll7918
    @umadbroimatroll7918 3 месяца назад +4

    I would argue in a way that Eve online does have an endgame, does that mean that every player should go towards it? No.
    And there is many types of endgame, for example people may want to go into Capital ships and go into wormhole C6 ratting, which I'd consider a form of endgame. For industrialists it might be setting up a station or buying themselves a Rorqual with many mining alts. Both of these are "endgame" content, but only because it's the last possible content you can achieve in the game really. I have the ability to do these endgame content but personally I find more fun in sub capital ships than caps, even if I'm making less isk, i prefer more casual gameplay and chilling out. Sometimes though I still love having a big ship with huge guns though 😂

    • @bucklinfondue
      @bucklinfondue  3 месяца назад +2

      That's kind of what I'm saying. Endgame is typically the content meant to be focused on, but you're choosing not to because you have a different goal and CAN have a different end goal.

    I don't think there is a time limit. 🤔 I have seen guys learn the game and know more than me in a matter of weeks. So i would say i judge what's a new player by game knowledge over skill points.
    Advanced players can always come down to the level of a low skill point player and have fun or help them out especially if they show promise into the future.

  • @thomashafner2224

    Best recommendation I can make for a new player is to try to find a good new player friendly corporation. Which can certainly be easier said than done especially not knowing what that should look like.
    An example though of what to look for would be as follows.
    #1 active in your time zone because you can’t learn if they aren’t online when you’re online
    #2 they’re active in multiple types of content even if you don’t think it’s something you’d be interested in. Even if you’re plan is to be an industrialist you should still learn fleet PvP and how to avoid being ganked
    #3 have some kind of hand out ship program for basic T1 ships. because that’s a major barrier to learning new things in Eve
    #4 normally the more organized corps have requirements such as auth to link discord or comms having this requirement is normally a good sign
    Then once you join ask questions, ask if people are doing whatever activity you’re interested in and if you can join. If you’re constantly getting ignored then go find another corp.
    Despite Eve’s reputation of having a toxic community more experienced players do generally like helping their newer corp mates and want to teach them because everyone was that guy at one point.

    As for new player friendly cops, you should check our Catskull Cartel, they accept players with 0 so and help train them up with skill plans etc for mining, fw, PvP and have higher tier corps in J-space (wormholes) and Null space depending on what those members are looking to transition to.

    welcome to eve! i have almost 200 million skill points and have played for 11 years, so my idea of what a noob is is probably different that someone that has played half that, or double! like you said its been around for 21 years and is pretty deep, takes alot longer than most games to shake off that new player feeling! and ya i am still learning plenty!
    also most don't strive for titans because they not only take so long to train as you point out, but they are expensive as hell and while that money can be made in game, many end up swiping their credit card to get those big shineys and most of those ships rarely if ever see combat!
    "endgame" for me is mastery V for all subcapitals! i'm prob a couple years off that! lol!

  • @tomaslonda1806
    @tomaslonda1806 2 месяца назад

    I had similar goal. And know many ppl who had exact the same. But as far as I can say, its not great one - once you first jump with your titan and get deleted in matter of seconds... My goal right now is just to fly expensive ships and not worry to throw few hundreds of millions daily into pvp. For that I have to estabslis solid industry and trading chain. As for newbro, I would say you stop being newbie at moment, when you can do (at least in theory) most of content - meaning, you know what ships to fly, can fit them, know the danger etc... but thats just my point of view, for example I know nothing about mission running (and it will prolly stay like that forever). Good content tho, keep it up.

    As a CEO myself I can say I consider someone no longer new player once they learned how to travel through unsafe space safely regardless of their skills that’s when you can consider someone competent you know a lot more to it than warping from gate to gate which is a easy way to get yourself killed. As for endgame for me once I reached having all the ships I needed with a ridiculous amount of assets it became much less about ISK and more just having a chill time taking less risks and running a business empire to grow them further which is a nice point to reach but it took at least a decade to get there and it gives you time to help others on their journey while ticking over. So yeah End game id say is ticking over with no pressure growing your assets helping others for others it may be fleet battles but I did all that learning mid game with Atlas.

    I have played Eve for almost 10 years with several breaks (I guess I actually have played for little more than half of this period).
    Everyone's endgame differs, for example I can't fly caps and I don't want to fly caps, for me it's rather boring and generally boils down to who can bring more.
    I have most fun exploring wormholes and mapping connections so that my corp or alliance can strike easily into the middle of enemy territory. If I get rich doing that (relic and data sites) then all the better. Hunting for a fleet is super fun, bubbling the entire enemy fleets on the way to a big engagement is so satisfactory, couple of times 3-people strong squadron managed to make a 250 people strong fleet completely miss the battle! Spearfishing with command destroyers, stopping BLOPS on the enemy, tackling nanocruisers with MJD Bhaalgorn, so many cool things to do!

    As someone who has played since 2004 I find the longevity of Eve comes from the developers constantly bring in updates which change the nature of the game, moving the goalposts as it were. Even now I would never dare to call myself an expert on anything, but I can say I have had more experience in playstyle A as opposed to B and therefore am comfortable with whatever playstyle A is. I might even pass on some advice should I be asked. But people love to work things out on their own and that is a true Eve player.

      I do think you have to quit at least once to stick with the game.

      @@bucklinfondue I think that's actually true, if you come back after that first quit then you will never truely quit. When I quit the game due to some changes that in my mind killed the game and years later I came back and those changes didnt actually change that much for me personally I realised that the changes might suck in the short term but the game stays relatively similar so that eve itch can always be scratched :)

    To me, you start being a "new player" when you get confident with mid-level gameplay in your chosen niche. Literally, you're no longer new when you become "mid-level".
    For example, I consider myself a mid-level miner. I have a small fleet of high-level exhumers with a Command ship & a hauler.
    The catch is that I'd consider myself a newb again if I go to something else. If I switched to Faction Warfare, I'd revert to being a child again. Maybe not completely new, but I'd definitely screw up the easy stuff.

Three days later he called me. Dude. I thought you were having fun. I said yeah. But now that I got million ISK. What the heck else can I do. As a bitter vet from 2007 on, I think it's amazing that there are still new players finding this old sandbox and figuring out how to use the tools. That's not a slight at all, but a comment on how relevant the game has stayed. That for me, is one reason I keep coming back. The Abby is a worthy goal. Good luck to you. The Paladin isn't too far off after that 😂
