24:00 Same goes for those of us living with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. Most of the time I learn something, it disappears into the Fibro-Fog and is a lot easier to recall with infographics.
In the old days, I had rapid reading and visualizing skills but they ran away into the fog, never to return.
Hope you feel better soon. I have cardiologists in my future due to the RA and the decades of meds for said RA.

Beautiful! I've seen a vid where they use glue with the reactive foil (no heat/laminating machine, just the "dry" glue, like the zig 2way that they let dry first).

I’m more a visual learner too. I can identify so much with you about huge text. Worst than that is lectures. My mind gets off on its own and I don’t comprehend what was said, I don’t learn well at all from audio by itself. Best is hands-on. That’s why I like making stuff.🦌💌🙏📚

Your description of your ADHD...I'm her. I could feel ya all the way.😏 If I am doing or reading something I need to focus on, I have to have music, talk radio, television...SOMETHING, going in the background to distract my rambling brain or else I can not focus. Even cooking dinner can take twice as long because I'm 'spinning in circles', so to speak.🙄 But, I can also analyze, hyper focus & catch detail that others miss...SUPER POWER!✊ (& curse. Lol!)

Love the new wee size! I'm watching you because we exchanged our water for the just turned on power! Apparently I can't have both so I've been collecting snow in big plastic tubs to melt down for the toilet and washing dishes (I boiled first). Probably just shared too much right there but hoping I get the water back soon, the power stays on, and insurance doesn't run out of money before we get our claim processed....lol

Tip for everyone: foil need a hotter tool than real gold. The tool temperature for gold is barely hot.
I have looked into the foil quill stuff. The have different nibs for the plug in pens, but they also have a setup to use with most electronic diecutting machines. You have to purchase the correct set for your machine, but a lot of the electronic die cutters can handle leather. That may be a way way for some of us papercrafters to do this. I'm considering it for my scan n cut.

Rock left and right, then down, and finish by rocking toward the top. People tend to hold things below eye level and that makes the foil show better when looked at from above.
Love watching you, you are clever, witty, sensible and out there wild! I've never tried to tool a book cover but Ive seen companies who make sales signs using heat foils and covers for sample booklets. In my craft life ive used foil in two ways. It sticks to dry PVA well some do! You can rub some on! They do not need heat. The other thing to use is used foil! theres always a bit left and the different colours look amazing. Lay different ones on top of each other, they stick on the naked bits/ I know you're into book binding but take look at Angie Hughes in Ledbury, UK shes brilliant in a different way! foils to die for!
Have you covered a mass market book? I'd be interested in seeing you use a commercial bound and in goodish condition...if it interests you. 😁 I have this grand goal of recovering all the books I own with the same ish leather.

I printed and bound your little Wind in the Willows and the bookbinding book... but I bound them in paper. I need to take another go at both of them, knowing what I know now. I don't mind 'forever,' and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thanks for all you've taught me (and all the great stuff in Etsy!).

Perfect timing for a leather project I'm working on! And speaking of leather, Nik have you done a tutorial on how to make a leather book cover? I'm sure much of the process is the same for a normal cover with book cloth or fabric, but any tips for working with leather since it's thicker?

Isn’t ADD fun? Lol. I was diagnosed when I was 6 and man, growing up with my mom not understanding how my brain worked was a tough ride. She eventually figured it out but those years before....whooo weee. But, you’re right we have other super powers and that’s a good thing. This is where “the more you know” graphic would appear on the tv screen 😛
Hi Nik! Have you tried steel stamping tools? They have really beautiful motives on Ali but they are meant for stamping metal and I am not sure if they will work with heat. By the way: I tried using the embossing tape from my bookbinders workshop with the quill and it works!

Can you use the pen to "shade" in solid areas? Will the final product be indented with foil pen?
My end goal is to do this on a hardcover book, but I want some areas to be wider than just the thin penline. If I use this pen to shade, will I see streaks where the pen ran?

You may find this comment boring but I'll write it anyway. People are often frustrated with me because I don't make eye contact when I am speaking or when someone is speaking to me. The problem is this. When I speak I "visualize" what I am saying and I see the picture in my head so I am looking "inside" and describing what I am seeing there. Conversely, when someone is speaking to me, I am building an image in my mind of what is being said so I am again looking "inside" at the image as it is being constructed. I try to explain it to people who comment on the "far away" look in my eyes. I am a senior citizen and exhausted with trying to explain it to people so I just shrug it off and go my way. I am happy with the way my brain works because I am able to understand things that I would not otherwise comprehend because the pictures tell me the stories and help me to tell stories.
I don't like making eye contact either, and I am also a visual person. But another reason is because it is very distracting to me. I cant' think of what I want to say next if I am looking at them because I get distracted by their body language, or sometimes if I try to look them in the eye, eyes being the window to the soul, I feel like I am being "sucked in" to them and I don't always want that to happen. My voice trails off and I lose where I was and forget what I was saying.
And likewise, if someone else is talking and looking me in the eye, I am afraid they are peering into my soul, and again that is not always what I want. I have to know someone really well, trust them with my life, and not be having a fight with them to look them in the eye. I've also heard this "eye contact" issue can be a symptom of being on the Autism spectrum. So I'm exploring that somewhat.
@@recoveringsoul755 studies have shown that when given a choice between looking at someone when speaking and making good word choices for conversation, the brain will force a break in eye contact in order to concentrate better. A lot of studies show that lack of eye contact is also correlated to higher intelligence so take heart. I must be near genius since I am also left-handed. (Ignore that slight drool in the corner of my mouth).

One of the things I noticed in the past 5 years of extended photo shoots at wildlife places, or trying to capture a bug, bird, or creature, is that about 80% of the time, that first shot is the best shot. I shoot, reshoot, used to bracket shots---but over and over, I found that I didn't need or use those later shots. Hmmm.

LOL I had to edit this because I forgot to mention how beautiful those leather covers are. I was in a leather book cover class in downtown NY City two years ago and they were doing them. But yours are much nicer. Very pretty!!

Do you know where to get stamps to use for this? I can’t tell if standard metal leather stamps are okay or if you need special brass stamps.
Thank you, I want to repair a cheap leatherbound book from Canterbury Collection (Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales) that wore the golden letters and I have no idea how to do it, zero skills and knowledge on book binding. My hand sweat removed some letters and everytime I look at it I feel sad. I though there was a magical solution like a paint, a magical pen or something but I guess it have to do with foils and more complicated things, oh dear :(

How does the hot foil stamping hold up. Like to do a patch for a hat. Does water affect it? What about spraying waterproof ... Good or bad idea.

that's a great question, i'm planning on using pleather/fake leather to re-bind a book and i'm thinking about doing some foil tooling but i don't know if I can or not. My plan for the pleather was using upholstery fabric because it's more flexible and has fabric on the back so I thought it would glue better to my bookboards.

Lol, the exceptions were probably misdiagnosed and are actually Bipolar....every ADHD person I've met are pretty much in that blanket statement....ADHD SUPER POWERS UNITE....WE NEED TO SAVE OUR DUCKS FROM CARS. we forgot where the line was.
