Awesomesauce video! You've already given me plenty to think about and some inspiration to make my own table! Argh! No pen and paper near me..... Oh well definitely won't forget this. Thanks for the video. I might be sticking around for more
I have a rule about potion effects in my game that gives wild magic surges. If you are under the effect of a potion such as Potion of Giants Strength, and you drink another potion (even healing) it triggers a wild magic surge. This table will add so much to this rule!
My own magic Surge Table is VERY flexible and vague. It works with a D20 (1 is worst 10 is neutral and 20 is best) and simply tells "The Environment changes drastically to your advantage" or "you take disadvantage on the worst possible roll" or "You summon something weird, it attacks everything nearby" the 1 and 20 effects are even permanent. In Praxis you can do a lot of different things with it but you need some experience as a GM to use it properly. For example "Change the Environment drastically to your advantage" could be creating Vines to climb up a cliff or a sudden Rainfall in a Fight against fire Elementals. I used it in a short campaign where a Player found a Wild-Magic-Book that he could use anytime. He created some super memorable Moments but in the End he died using it too often.
Hey, I wanna thank you. I got your magic table for our last campaign and it was the reason for the most memorable moments that we had on our journey. In the last fight wild magic happened, we were fight against a dragon and things were very, very bad bad. And it got it worse cause our magic D20 was a bad effect, so the table went silent. So I roll the D100 and DM started to laugh cause the bad thing was: the player would polymorph into the nearest or the last creature they saw...Yes, it could be very bad if we were next to a ant or a sheep, but I was next to...A DRAGON!!! All the table started to yell and suddenly our hope was renewed. We won the fight and we will never forget this moment.
YES!!! I was so excited when I saw the Wild Magic Primal Path for the Barbarian but SOOO disappointed when I saw that it had nothing to do with the Wild Magic Sorcerer table. The Wild Magic Barbarian should have some sort of access to that table!
I agree!!! Next week is my wild magic sorcerer video! And I talk about that too! Depending on how well that video does I can do a wild magic Barbarian vid too!
@@TheDungeonCoach I'm starting a new campaign on Wednesday and the DM loves wild magic almost as much as I do. So obviously I'm playing a Wild Magic Sorcerer. Gonna be based on Ian Lightfoot from Onward, his staff is the main source of his powers. Belonged to his deceased powerful wizard father and he is slowly learning to control the magic in it
I once ran a *Wild Magic Storm* . It was the result of what happens when too much and too intense of magic is used in a short time in the same area. *The weirdest things that happened were:* 1 - a wyvern teleported into the wood, disoriented, landed on it's back and was devoured by the ground. 2 - a sudden blizzard occured and a yeti aswell as a blob of living 'murder snow' fell out of the sky and started attacking my party, utilizing gusts of snowy winds to sneak up. The yeti could 'wear' the snow as a type of armor that increased it's AC, and it could launch the snow to smother/freeze a player as a reaction to taking damage.
I think the most important point here is that you're designing this with your mind toward the players' experience of the table. It makes me think that with some notes for guidelines, a DM may not even need that table. All they need is that D20, and think about how the magic the player was trying to use could get twisted.
You got me. I love Wild Magic and it is the reason I ran a multiclassed 3.5 Paladin/Sorceror of Kord that accidentally turned into a pre-pubescent version of himself. As a DM I homebrewed a BBEG that has a wild magic zone villain action as her first round action. You just got yourself a new patron sir!
WILD MAGIC BROTHER!!! Thanks man, it’s literally my favorite! Next week I’m going over the wild magic Sorcerer I fixed, BIG changes there!! That BBEG sounds amazing! And I LOVE that zone!! haha
I would probably describe the one that grants resistance against everything for a minute as magical backlash that clings to your skin like a shield, and with every hit after that it is visibly seen that the "armor" is absorbing it with a flash of light.
Had a wild magic sorcerer in the group a while back, we thought it wasnt triggering enough so we had it trigger 50 percent of the time, rolls of 11 to 20 it was a blast! And really not any more powerful than the rest of the party
Hey DC, I know I'm not the most avid of your followers, but this is the third video I've clicked on, and watched, and thought "Oh Wow! This is SO COOL!" only to realize if I want to use ANY of the really awesome things you've talked about I'm going to have to listen and manually write down what I want to use. I get it; your trying to drive people to your patreon; good for you! I wish you the best. But those of us who literally cannot afford even the tiny amount it would take to support you, is sucks to not even get the basic rudimentary concepts, and have to pour hours into attempting to implement your Amazing ideas into our own games. Like, for this, absolutely! You've been working for years on that epic d300 table! Keep it for those who are able to contribute! But I've seen the excellent work you put into your PDF's; you probably have the tips and tricks you go over in this video outlined at the beginning of your Wild Magic Surge PDF. I think that they're really well thought out, and you do a great job of writing things to be functional. I can, of course, spend my time going over your video, meticulously writing down you're thoughts that have probably already been captured much more concisely, in the beginning of the awesome PDF I know I will not be able to see. It would mean so much to those of us who want to participate, want to contribute to the conversation, to have even a basic 'tip's and tricks' version of these PDF's available for free. It would be so amazing to still get to be included in this amazing community you're cultivating, even though I can't help support you monetarily.
Thank you for the feedback and thank you for saying it in a positive way and giving and your two cents instead of just being upset and basically yelling at me. I totally see you’re coming from and I wanted to give a full response. For over a year now. I have made over 10 pDFs that are completely free and that I have put my ears of homebrewing and practice into those three PDFs that I continuously update as free and will always be free. But for something like this… I can’t just give out parts of it for free that could’ve been more value to the people who are making it possible for me to do this as an actual job. I haveExtreme aspirations on my end to do this as a job and have my own financial struggles to try and overcome that I of course dont want to get into, cuz that’s not the overall point. I’m saying somewhere I have to draw the line on what is paid and what is not paid. Free PDFs or partial PDFs will never let me be able to provide for my family in this way. 2 systems I have released are on Patreon, yes, but I do my best job to literally give you stuff in those PDFs as info and share the “secrets” of how I did it. I see the value of providing a pdf to make the info easier to acquire/ gather on your end, I really do and have done it over 10 times on this channel (telling you that since you said you were new) I will continue to make free stuff and give PDFs out... but as a “business” I have to decide what is free and what is on Patreon. So I hope this gives you a taste of where I’m coming from, because I do hear you, I want to provide HUGE value for ALL people for free and then if people support they get even more. And so far with how much free stuff I’ve given out that I could have made thousands more on, but have for free instead, I feel that I have done that. Thank you for writing your constructive criticism in a positive light and not being toxic about it
Ran a campaign with my WM Sorc, where the DM and I agreed for the chance at wild magic to increase by the spell level cast, storing, so every time wild magic wasn't triggered, the next cast started at that level and increased by the spell power. It makes it so that as you go further in combat, the higher chance you have at triggering a WM cast. Made much more sense with how my character was built and played.
I know the default wild magic table has significantly more good than bad, and presumably the subclasses were balanced around this. Have you found these subclasses feeling nerfed in playtesting? Not as much of a concern (in fact probably better) for surges caused by other things.
So one of my players (my wife) is going to start multi-classing from Paladin 6, adding Shadow Magic Sorcerer 1 - clearly a stark departure for the character. My thought is to have the Sorcerous origin begin manifesting itself as physical changes (per the Shadow Magic quirks table) as she begins her transformation. I have also added cantrips and Level 1 spells from the tables to her character, but she won't be entirely in control of them and will cast them at my direction during combat, making her character (and the rest of the party) wonder what's happened to their beloved Paladin. Early incantations will take the form of some of the wild magic surges from your table. Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out over the coming months :D Editing to add: is this still available in your Patreon? I noticed a post about people joining and then leaving (booo!) after they get all the past PDFs. Is TeeSpring a better option for this content now?
This is an awesome addition to the wild magic surge options. And the idea that the player wouldn't know when the effect would wear off just makes sense. Wild magic is supposed to be random.
I recently got this and I really like the random yet fun results it has generated. With my home brew campaign it has really made the players excited to see what will be the outcome
Aw this is brilliant! I have ended up using this wild magic table from 3e I think and it's pretty bonkers. Love wild magic surges! Really really clever fixes here 😍 I am intrigued 👀 I also made a similar kind of table for a player of mine who wanted to play as an 8 intelligent wizard. Random things that would happen when she would cast spells, due to her lack of proper training :3
Hey I am bekomme a first time DM only played one campaign so far as a player and one of my players will play a Wild Magic Socorrer and I was breaking my head how to make it more exiting etc I really love your video I am so excited about this campaign thanks
I’m playing as a Far Realm aberration-monster hunter that has crimson sap like blood, spit, sweat, etc that has the wild magic trait because he is from the Far Realm, so this actually helps me. This is for our Far Realm Bloodborne inspired d&d campaign.
Any thoughts of trying to do a Wild Magic themed race? Like a changeling that is forced to shapeshift into a random animal/monster once per day, but doesn't know what race/creature it will turn into? It could be a fun way of keeping each session feeling fresh because the player will have to improvise both roleplaying and combat-wise based on their transformation.
Doing it with a transformation would be interesting and crazy, yea! I would do some sort of condition this race has to trigger to then roll on a wild magic surge table, that’s an awesome idea!!
Well I'm sold... literally.. just bought the surge table... It looks amazing... thankyou also for the Wild Magic Variant... I can't wait to try it out in my next campaign.
How to describe "You cannot be intoxicated by Alcohol for X days" as a DM: "Ok, you surge and..." *Roll dice behind screen* "Oh... Ok..." *Smile at player* Player know they surged. They felt it. Something happened. They may never know what happened. They may figure it out. For the saving throw at advantage... Maybe just a "You feel... empowered? It's an odd feeling. A bit tingle-ly." Later on if they get the same result, you can say "You feel tinglely again". You can also just add something odd for the alcohol one above; maybe add a "you are overwhelmed with the taste that can be best described as "purple".
So I'm currently creating a "Wild Force Table" for a Star Wars style game. I've been using the Star Wars 5e players handbook to create it, and they have something called the "unstable engineer" which is in essence a wild mage, but I didn't like their table. My main NPC and one of my PC's has this Wild Force as part of their class (I should mention... VERY HOME BREW, basically ultimate multiclassing equally leveling up multiple classes and sub classes that blend nicely together for some EPIC PC's and NPC's). I'm basing it off of 3.5e Wild Magic tables and I try and have it as mostly buffs, de-buffs, added effects to "force powers" (spells), and only a few just WTF things. I try and have limited REALLY good and REALLY bad things, with a lot of medium things in between. I'd love to send what I have your way and maybe get some help/advice.
I found a massive mist of wild magic effects that I use as a basis. And customise tables specific to certain characters or items that use it. So no one thing is the same. Which gives it that random feel.
My current campaign involves plane ripping chaos fluxes from too many magic items in one place. They have rumors of this chaos disease from another era (mix elvenshot and Joker disease) and already found hints of this sickness returning, thanks to the BBEG from Limbo. If the players want to cure it, they can with a Heal spell or more powerful but they have to roll on the Surge Table. Our druid healed the warlock's mother from this chaos infection. However, she was a big, blinding ball of light and all her speech was dubstep-esque distorted for an hour. I would amplify the effects from the Surge Table (since the BBEG is a presumed dead chaos entity), depending on who triggered it.
I have a custom d100 table, but I have a number of those results include "If the spell you are casting is of equal or lower level than the slot you expended, the slot is not expended" so that some of the terrible results are mitigated a little. I also added a feature to the class to reflect the old "Nahal's Reckless Dweomer" from the original 2nd edition Wild Mage so that you can attempt to cast any spell with a 1st level slot, but it will *always* surge.
You inspired me to create my own version of this....took most of the options you presented for the Class Features and adjusted them but changed the Wild Surge Table to a single 2d20 table, rolling one d20 for the Surge result and one d20 as the "Effect" die to see if you receive the "Bad", "Balanced" or "Good" effect of the Surge, and even within that there is a lot of flexibility for the DM and player so it ends up being more than just 60 options....thanks for inspiring this and love your homebrew ideas! would love to post it so you could take a look but can't attach here.
playing using this homebrew live on our stream Saturday and i’m SO EXCITED Dungeon Hunters thanks you for this awesome homebrew!! Level 10 Rabbitfolk Wild Magic Sorcerer Dungeon Coach edition!! Finn “Lucky” Luckfoot thanks you!!
I’m going to try and set up a Cogent live play test and I’ll post it on the channel! It’s easy and quick and I will be testing my live stream set up for gameplay footage in the future too!
The 2E wild Mage, wild surge table was d100 and higher is usually better, but they had a 1st level spell that would cause a wild surge but the player would add their level to the wild surge! The Wild Mage also had the level they cast their spell at modified depending on their d20 roll, the higher their level the greater the modified level. I cast a lightning bolt that would normally end before it got back to me, but i had rolled a 20, so it went off 3 levels higher which increased the length of the lightning bolt by 30 feet. I hit 2 gnolls twice, but also ended up hitting myself once because i rolled a 20! You should also bring back the potion miscibility table.
Ooo I love that table! And really?! I didn’t know that about 2e! That sounds awesome for wild magic sorcs, makes me want to make a table just for sorcs now lol
@@TheDungeonCoach I so LOVE the 2E Wild Mage, it was so much fun to play, and it frustrated the DM, when one of my wild surges opened to secret door to a treasure storage area, that we hadn't found in searching.
I made a minor wild magic effects table and a major wild magic effects table, both true d100. Almost all of them work for virtually any character. My effects are pretty much all bad (lower rolls are worse) and tend to last until dawn, the next full moon, or full moons. I hate mechanistic effects, so none of them are things like getting disadvantage on a roll, but they can result in mechanical effects, like getting leathery skin gives +1 AC.
I prefer simpler and mostly positive effects because Barbarian got to have EXCLUSIVELY positive effects and Alchemists get random but always positive options, it feels weird that a warrior with 0 knowledge of arcane has more benefits from it, but someone who actually tries to help their magic work and can cast spells is somehow more detrimental because they have the ability to just... explode
DM's guild takes a 50% cut.. so yes it will be on there, but for 2x the cost for YOU... thats why I put it on Patreon (they only take 8%) so I loose a little money BUT yall get a 50% discount basically. So yes in 1 month it will be on DM's Guild, but for more >.
@@TheDungeonCoach oh nice! Thanks for the explanation! Now that I know how the money works I'll make it a point to figure out patreon. It just makes sense.
If you PayPal me then I’ll just send it to you directly, I’ve had a lot of complaints of this and have told them about it! My PayPal is “Thedungeoncoach@gmail.com” I appreciate the support! I’ll get you all set
I think I'd just say to a player who get the alcohol-immunity that to their knowledge nothing happend except for the intended effect. It would either: A) be revealed once they go and drink, or B) not be brought up again except for the player walking around wondering if something might be wrong with their character.
Yea I would do the same and most likely end up being option B... and probably use it as a “sneaky effect coupon” for later and listen to what the player wonders it could be lol... but overall just feels odd if it never did anything ever and even if it did be something not very “WILD” but yes we are synced up there
I was about to suggest pretty much the same thing but decided to look through comments and see if anyone else had commented yes. Is there some sort of mechanic in the game that makes it to where you have to tell the player what happened if they can’t use their own senses to figure it out?
Wild magic could have a table for in and out of combat maybe, and maybe nat 1 maybe would lean more negative effects and 20's more benificial. Mechanically you could roll d100 twice and use it like advantage/disadvantage and the DM/PC choose accordingly
This reminded me of the D10,000 Wild Magic Table that came with the story of 'The Commoners Curse of 300 Wands' I want to use this idea someday but I would want to do a more story-driven campaign first. There is also the fact that 00000 is literally that the sun blows up but I can work around a world-ending effect by either just breaking the wand on use before it can do anything or picking a nearby effect on the table that would not end the world.
Alternative idea: random spell effect. All wish based mechanics work by giving you the ability to use a spell of your choice. So what if wild magic surges give you a random spell effect of a certain level.
I have a guy planning to play a wild magic sorcerer in an up and coming game. So for sure watching this for some tips. Though I'm curious. Is there a pure d100 table, with 100 options that's official content. Been playing for nearly a decade and running for about 6 years. Played and ran different systems, and one option having multiple numbers to it just seems common. (Even the DMG for magic items has this). Cause having 100 options, regardless of the table just seems a bit much.
@@TheDungeonCoach Heck yea!! my current character is a wild magic barbarian and it is so fun! I made my own table it is so entertaining and makes so many funny moments (once i almost died due to a unicorn summoned from wild magic haha)
For the next 3 days, YES! Because I released the December PDF late on the 15th so I’m leaving it available for the full month. Then from now on they release on the 1st every month and the old one is gone! 👍🏼👍🏼
Yeah I definitely wanna see how you can streamline the process of “roll to see if it triggers a wild magic surge” “1” *searches for wild magic effect and has to describe it for a minute* Right now, wild magic surge can be disruptive if you’ve got players who arent all in on it. Even still, its disruptive because its like a “commercial break” in combat. Really wanna know the best way to streamline this
They are available only for 1 month, then go into the "vault" BUT for the next 5 days youll have access to ALL the PDF's because Nov was free, December was posted late so it lasts till Jan 15th. But this is not the norm, so now is the best time lol. But yes, usually they only last for 1 month
I got to @17:00 minutes in & thought this movement "benefit" does nothing for a rogue higher than 2nd level & is nice for a monk but it means one of their class features has just been overshadowed by a wild magic surge that maybe highlight how it sucks that a monk has to spend ki points to get this feature that the rogue gets all the time after 2nd level. (Back to the video, maybe you address my concerns after this?)
Personally as a DM if a Surge ever produced an effect that someone else had, that might be cool for them to be able to do something similar and be a funny thing, BUT I would most likely give it a different flair OR a HUGELY powerful flair and have it only last for 2 rounds. These effects are never meant to be permanent either, so even if there is an overlap, the DM could rule that its just for a moment or whatever.
I would describe the life force being sucked out of them as their either body/ beath/ light in their eyes/ soul becomes weaker... or even have them pass out and have a vision or something
Does the PDF get set to my phone? I just purchased the "D300 Table + Wild Magic Items and Subclasses" and am confused because no shipping address was asked for. Also I used my phone number instead of email, will this be an issue?
I see someone else asked a similar question but I was wondering if there is a mechanic in the game that makes the dungeon master tell the player what happened if the player cannot use their own senses to figure out what happened?
I would just tell them it seems nothing happened or use some sort of flowery description to show that something happened but having nothing to do with the actual effect.
Wild Sorcerers are your second favourite class? How dare you? They are the best! What is the first? Eh? My wild solcerer is going to annihilate it! Great Video, as usual! P.S.: one personal note: 5e characters are already almost unkillable, do not try to help them avoiding a fireball going off, even if it kills them all. Adventuring should be a career which very few would choose, and I think 5e did a very bad job in keeping this feeling. The game is already rigged in player's favour, do not help them even more!
Have your player roll a d100 and a d20 and a d6. Regardless of the results, grimace and say something like oh... Alright. Then make a limb of theirs glow for a random amount of time or summon flumphs. Do this until they catch on, then make up something random on the next time... Like they turn into a chicken or explode or their sex changes.
Why limit the effect to a single character? Why shouldn’t a surge have an area effect? I’m playing around with a campaign idea where the rampant, use/abuse of magic by the M-U classes has started to create an elemental breakdown in the campaign world.
I think the big problem isn't the table I think its how rarely it happens. In our games we make the 5% cumulative. 1st time roll 5% chance. If nothing happens then next time you roll 10% chance to have wild magic, etc... When it discharges then it resets.
No lol! 1. I gave a full breakdown of why I think wild magic in RAW has flaws (that could be a whole video on RUclips that many people make and that’s it) 2. I gave multiple Homebrew solutions and tips/ tricks on how I would run ANY magic table (again could be a whole video) Then yes I plugged my own creation of something I’ve worked on for years. The alternative was either just complain about the RAW or give some Homebrew solutions for any table... I just did both and threw in examples from my own table too 👌🏼 I hope you see where I’m coming from there.
@@TheDungeonCoach I kinda second Extravaganza's notion. The title "5 ways to spice up wild magic" is quite misleading when it really just means "Feel free to make something up when it comes to an effects trigger, duration, DC, Damage or Delay" - and most effects in the original table don't even have damage or a DC related to them. If you wanna create extra content only for your paying patreons, then that's fine, but you shouldn't make those who can't afford it find out that they've been fooled and can't use any of this after more than 12 minutes of hyping it up. I understand that you want to do this full time and all that, but maybe just put "[Patreon-Only]" or something in the title for videos like this.

@@TheDungeonCoach yeah i know. Tried to change it to 1080p didnt work. But my setup is also kinda strange. Laptop running a 27' 4k screen. It looks fine if i make the window smaller or on my phone. But your video is the only one with this problem. I don't quite understand it.
The only problem with the current wild magic table is the fireball. That's a potential tpk at levels 1 through 5, hell, even after that. Make it another thing, like thunderwave or sleetstorm. Everything else is fine, and I actively disagree with you on the 'it's random so no one cares' thingy. Being random means the players are always on edge (until they know the entire table by heart)

Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out over the coming months :D
Editing to add: is this still available in your Patreon? I noticed a post about people joining and then leaving (booo!) after they get all the past PDFs. Is TeeSpring a better option for this content now?
That table came in handy when a player casted wish.... Super great for random side effects to everyone involved!
Oooooooo what a brilliant application!!!
This is what I initially wanted when I pledged before XD, oh well maybe ill be able to come back to patreon later down the line.
When you do, send me a message on there reminding me of this moment! I’ll make sure I got you!
Aw this is brilliant! I have ended up using this wild magic table from 3e I think and it's pretty bonkers.
Love wild magic surges!
Really really clever fixes here 😍 I am intrigued 👀
I also made a similar kind of table for a player of mine who wanted to play as an 8 intelligent wizard. Random things that would happen when she would cast spells, due to her lack of proper training :3
I love things in dnd where you have a huge range of numbers that can do almost anything.
Wild magic surge is one of my favorites. Nice addition. Thanks.
I would do some sort of condition this race has to trigger to then roll on a wild magic surge table, that’s an awesome idea!!
abyssal tieflings get random racial selection of spells each long rest
Well I'm sold... literally.. just bought the surge table... It looks amazing... thankyou also for the Wild Magic Variant... I can't wait to try it out in my next campaign.
Good way to start the Sunday mornings
Like old school Sunday morning cartoons!!
How to describe "You cannot be intoxicated by Alcohol for X days" as a DM:
"Ok, you surge and..."
*Roll dice behind screen*
"Oh... Ok..."
*Smile at player*
Player know they surged. They felt it. Something happened. They may never know what happened. They may figure it out.
For the saving throw at advantage... Maybe just a "You feel... empowered? It's an odd feeling. A bit tingle-ly."
Later on if they get the same result, you can say "You feel tinglely again".
Ooooo yea that would for sure get across a "wild" and random effect!
This is nearly perfect for my campaign
THAT sounds like an awesome campaign to me!!
That 100 roll on the bad table is so evil.
Love it!
Thanks Coach!
I have your Table that I will be using in my games now!
Good stuff DC. As usual my mind started drifting thinking about all the possibilities and I need to go back and rewatch. 👍
Can't wait for the live plays to start!
I’m going to try and set up a Cogent live play test and I’ll post it on the channel! It’s easy and quick and I will be testing my live stream set up for gameplay footage in the future too!
@@TheDungeonCoach Excellent news, Coach!
LOVE This bought it immediately
How am I not already a patron? Well that’s fixed now!
BREAKING NEWS!!! WTDD News Anchor gets WILD!
(Thanks bro! lol)
I prefer simpler and mostly positive effects because Barbarian got to have EXCLUSIVELY positive effects and Alchemists get random but always positive options, it feels weird that a warrior with 0 knowledge of arcane has more benefits from it, but someone who actually tries to help their magic work and can cast spells is somehow more detrimental because they have the ability to just... explode
This sounds amazing! I’ve got to get my hands on this table!
Coach! I've never done patreon before! Can this be available on the DMs guild where I can just buy it? Great video as always!
Bless you, you beautiful bastard. This is exactly what I needed. I swear you must be listening in to my home game or something...
I'm in the middle of trying to make my own table inspired by this video any hints or tips in making it
How do you manage to balance prepping for games with all of the work you put into this homebrew?! Really appreciate all your hard work :)
Can you make a table for a wild magic sorcerer with tourretes?
I think it would benefit from vicious mockery.
Dungeons and Dragons needs the Dungeon Crawl Classics magic rules of various degrees of success. Great sets of tables for Nat 1 and Nat 20.
My first ever PC TPKed the party with a wild magic fireball on the party in our very first session.
Tried to pick this up on Teespring, but for some reason the site wouldn't let me click to check out? Love the idea, wish I could get the table lol
If you PayPal me then I’ll just send it to you directly, I’ve had a lot of complaints of this and have told them about it!
My PayPal is
“Thedungeoncoach@gmail.com”
I appreciate the support! I’ll get you all set
I love that shirt.
Hahahah felt it was appropriate for the vid lol
I think I'd just say to a player who get the alcohol-immunity that to their knowledge nothing happend except for the intended effect.
It would either: A) be revealed once they go and drink, or B) not be brought up again except for the player walking around wondering if something might be wrong with their character.
Yea I would do the same and most likely end up being option B... and probably use it as a “sneaky effect coupon” for later and listen to what the player wonders it could be lol... but overall just feels odd if it never did anything ever and even if it did be something not very “WILD” but yes we are synced up there
@@TheDungeonCoach you could modify it so he feels the effect of getting drunk from drinking any liquid! =D
I was about to suggest pretty much the same thing but decided to look through comments and see if anyone else had commented yes. Is there some sort of mechanic in the game that makes it to where you have to tell the player what happened if they can’t use their own senses to figure it out?
@@jamesstewart8444 I don't think so, I believe it's up to the DMs discretion.
@@Piqipeg THAT is a great adjustment lol, brilliant, and leave it on em for a while (good Roleplay challenge)
Wild magic could have a table for in and out of combat maybe, and maybe nat 1 maybe would lean more negative effects and 20's more benificial. Mechanically you could roll d100 twice and use it like advantage/disadvantage and the DM/PC choose accordingly
This reminded me of the D10,000 Wild Magic Table that came with the story of 'The Commoners Curse of 300 Wands'
I want to use this idea someday but I would want to do a more story-driven campaign first.
What patreon level do you need to get this table?
You said wild magic was your second favorite sub-class, what's your favorite?
I talk about it a little next week too, BUT its the Wild Magic Barbarian! lol SURPRISE!!
@@TheDungeonCoach Heck yea!! my current character is a wild magic barbarian and it is so fun! I made my own table it is so entertaining and makes so many funny moments (once i almost died due to a unicorn summoned from wild magic haha)
@@grayisforeveranoutcast6991 I just wish the were a little more... wild. I think from growing up with 2nd edition Wild Mage, I want CRAZY.
@@whaddonutube I started with 5e, but i totally agree on making wild magic actually wild, its one of my favorite mechanics!
Hey coach! If we become patrons at the right tier, do we get access to the previous pdfs?
For the next 3 days, YES! Because I released the December PDF late on the 15th so I’m leaving it available for the full month. Then from now on they release on the 1st every month and the old one is gone! 👍🏼👍🏼
@@TheDungeonCoach makes sense! thanks for everything you're putting out there!
2 D 12 -1 (except for two 12)
From 1 to 24 damage at a random target. Out of the 20 creatures around decided by 2 d10.
Yeah I definitely wanna see how you can streamline the process of “roll to see if it triggers a wild magic surge”
“1”
*searches for wild magic effect and has to describe it for a minute*
Right now, wild magic surge can be disruptive if you’ve got players who arent all in on it. Even still, its disruptive because its like a “commercial break” in combat. Really wanna know the best way to streamline this
A small question: If I become a Patreon, do I get access to all the PDFs or are they only available in the respective month?
They are available only for 1 month, then go into the "vault"
BUT for the next 5 days youll have access to ALL the PDF's because Nov was free, December was posted late so it lasts till Jan 15th. But this is not the norm, so now is the best time lol. But yes, usually they only last for 1 month
Ever heard of the School of Invention wizard, it's an UA that's a milder version of Wild magic. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.
There's also this old UA from 2015, the Abyssal Tiefling that has innate spells that change every long rest.
You say that some of the things in the original table is quite hard to roleplay. Yet your example is a failed Death save, how do you roleplay that?
I would describe the life force being sucked out of them as their either body/ beath/ light in their eyes/ soul becomes weaker... or even have them pass out and have a vision or something
Can I still get the table if I become a patron in February?
This will definitely make the wild magic barbarian better. I think their wild magic table is quite lacking
Yea it’s a d12 or whatever lol... not very WILD! I have a Homebrew fix in polishing off for them too!
is this in your alkanders almenac?
I can see some interpreting the "can only go at full speed" as you have to dash to move during combat.
I joined your patreon and cannot find the surge table anywhere. I found the subclass homebrew you've done.
it was only available in january, you have to pay for it now, things are only available the month a video comes out.
Nicely done, @ wyatt wear
He won this round!
Is that Thumbnail Grandfailure's art?
Wild Sorcerers are your second favourite class? How dare you? They are the best! What is the first? Eh? My wild solcerer is going to annihilate it! Great Video, as usual!
P.S.: one personal note: 5e characters are already almost unkillable, do not try to help them avoiding a fireball going off, even if it kills them all. Adventuring should be a career which very few would choose, and I think 5e did a very bad job in keeping this feeling. The game is already rigged in player's favour, do not help them even more!
Do you make this available on sites like Drivethru or DMsGuild?
Have your player roll a d100 and a d20 and a d6. Regardless of the results, grimace and say something like oh... Alright. Then make a limb of theirs glow for a random amount of time or summon flumphs. Do this until they catch on, then make up something random on the next time... Like they turn into a chicken or explode or their sex changes.
Haha first once more!
How can I get this table now?
If the table is for all then what would happen to the wild magic sorcerer
They still use it themselves, has ALL great options
It just doesn’t have anything in there that specifically tak about “sorcery points” etc
I saw one in the same style on dandwiki and it was decent. Tho I adapted it to my language and made some balance. Was still quite meh.
Yea sounds like the same process I went though, took a lot of work to get it to where you feel good about 300 things lol!
Why limit the effect to a single character? Why shouldn’t a surge have an area effect? I’m playing around with a campaign idea where the rampant, use/abuse of magic by the M-U classes has started to create an elemental breakdown in the campaign world.
pls tell me that the 42 is the potted plant :V
I think the big problem isn't the table I think its how rarely it happens. In our games we make the 5% cumulative. 1st time roll 5% chance. If nothing happens then next time you roll 10% chance to have wild magic, etc... When it discharges then it resets.
Wait, so this was just a commercial...?
No lol!
1. I gave a full breakdown of why I think wild magic in RAW has flaws (that could be a whole video on RUclips that many people make and that’s it)
2. I gave multiple Homebrew solutions and tips/ tricks on how I would run ANY magic table (again could be a whole video)
Then yes I plugged my own creation of something I’ve worked on for years.
The alternative was either just complain about the RAW or give some Homebrew solutions for any table... I just did both and threw in examples from my own table too 👌🏼
I hope you see where I’m coming from there.
Anyone used the wild magic stuff yet? I'm sneaking it into a game tonight
Haha I've gotten feedback from those who have used it and its all been fun stuff to far! lol
We'll see how it goes tonight then. My players have this tendency to roll on the low side when I use charts so I'm interested to see what happens!

Hmmm thats strange, you can change the default settings on the video, might of had bad connection and your device lowered the resolution to be able to play it? just my thoughts :)
@@Rodedrengen good heads up though, I’ll look into it!
What if a DM just collects those 100 rolls and at the final boss drops all the really bad effects on the poor little Sorcerer.
