In the 00s I hit a record store in Detroit that was closing that was filled with Detroit Techo and Electronic. I bought a number of CDs and albums , they were very cheap, but it was an interesting collage of sounds that greeted me. I lost that music, and I never did play it a lot, but it was fascinating. That Moondog was quite interesting, I know him but had not heard his music. I appreciate you playing all the samples. Steve
Ha, was working on a video of cheapies myself! You got me this time. Lovely stuff. I absolutely heard the Riley aspect to Terrence Dixon. The cyclical nature of it brings on the psychedelia for sure. Even the cover looks like Riley. Ahh not so cheap anymore that Moondog. Don't remember seeing that here must have a euro rsd. Ha good to see even you have some RSD in there. My theory is at this point everyone has at least 1. Moondog actually lived not far from me here in upstate NY before he moved to Europe. He was actually living in the woods and even sleeping in an actual hole like someone would be buried in I believe. There's a whole article I'll have to find about it. He used to wander the area weirding out the small town folks. Be well.
I think I also got a great Popol Vuh RSD release, and a few unnecessary ones... Really happy, Dixon talked to you! His catalogue is so intriguing. My bad about the Moobdog, I bought it new but second hand, not so long ago, for pennies, as it had sat in the shop forever. I should go check on discogs before I assume on camera, hahaha. Wow, I assume you weren't yet born, when the blind viking was roaming your backyard?
@@StuntrockConfusion correct wasn't born until 78 and the Viking was in the area around 71-72. I didn't grow up here anyway but with Moondog I haven't gotten too deep into his later career records. I've passed on a few. Once again you've encouraged me to challenge common perception.
I bought that wire lp in 88!..lol..I saw them here the following year in 89 was a fantastic show..154 is a masterpiece..love dome and Lewis's he said project as well as Newman's solo stuff..all were staples of my listening diet in my high school/college..kinda want to hear bell right now..lol..much love chris
There's a version of Ideal Copy (my fave), with bonus live tracks (they can be found on an EP as well), and they are the best thing from them IMHO, so I'm suurprised bipbop hated them live. The singing and vocal choruses are a huge part of what makes Wire special to me. Dome is a fave as well, even if I only have half of theirs.
What up brother Stunt. I heard you name drop the band SWANS and I was curious if you saw the documentary [Where does a body end?] about them and specically Michael Gira and his spiritual journey? It is about three hours long and I really enjoyed it. I recommend watching it if you have the time my friend.
Hey Stunty 👋 - 154 by Wire is an all time favourite for me & I liked A-Z by Colin Newman as well. Hail by He Said is decent. I never got into the comeback commencing with The Ideal Copy. They didn't seem to be challenging anymore but kinda conforming. Decent , but not brilliant.
I love Ideal Copy, especially with the bonus live versions. I’ve even warmed up to A Bell Is A Cup. I think those two are to be connected with 154, as their second period. But Dome indeed rules supreme, as does the Gilbert Russell Mills collab, and that Newman album
Enjoy seeing these videos and getting to sample other types of music. Thanks! Side note, Wire is one of the only post punk bands I truly dislike. I know I am the odd man out with that view, but it’s true. Hopefully there’s more of these videos coming. All very interesting! Cheers!
Maybe you’ll be intrigued by the fact I fully share your sentiment with their first highly lauded album. I start liking them with 154, when they stop trying being a punk band and become themselves. I also like OUtdoor Miner on the second album, but that's it. Glad you liked the video, though, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and they surely be more, back to a steadier pace, hopefully ^^
@@StuntrockConfusion I have the first three Wire albums. I will listen to the third again tomorrow. It’s been a while. I saw them live and thought they were terrible so that also taints my opinion. I’ll keep an open mind. Thanks again!
Cool info on the Moondog release. Those samples of it sounded really nice. I had the Pink Flag Wire album but didn’t care for it much so I traded it in somewhere once I noticed it generated some money. Haven’t really tried much else in their cataloge. Do you like Pink Flag? Cheers
Hi, did you study musicology? Some of the music one could use in a museum context, for video art, that kind of vibe I get while listening. I once said to Michael that he is probably an electronic producer. So maybe you are a professor in the music department. :-) ciao
Ha! I did not, at least not at university. But I met an discussed with a lot of musicians, read quite some, and like to think. And I did produce electronic music. I sure could talk about it for days, and have opinions, including some controversial ones.
@@StuntrockConfusion oui, the most psychedelic song in my opinion is Some Velvet Morning by Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra...words and music swirling in my fried skullpan!!

Very nice - chaos/order, tension/resolution, meaning/value, we are getting into the deeper levels now! Great vid thanks!
I'm half way through and enjoy this episode so far. The next half could be really disappointing. 🤣🤘

Read my reply to bipbop message, but no I don’t, I like one song on the second one, and I like what comes after.
