Just out of curiosity, why are Dobermans’ ears and tails cropped? Is there an actual function to those?

@@lisanidog8178 Doberman ears and tails are cropped for practicality and “aesthetic” they aren’t born this way.

@@PupEaseCentral I know they’re not born that way. What’s the practicality of cropping. I know the look of it.

@@lisanidog8178I can answer that, the reason the tails get cropped is cause of their slightly longer tail being dangerous when they wag it cause if they wag it too much they can actually break the bones. As for the ears being clipped, in terms of practicality there’s a few reasons why people get the, clipped, a few being that they want the classic Doberman look and it can help their hearing slightly, which helps if a person or family wants a guard dog as well as a family pet. But cropping and docking is purely cosmetic and is not required at all for the dog, and in the UK the surgery to dock their tails and crop their ears is illegal

@@lisanidog8178 if the dog is used to compete in any show/competition event, it's required due to it being the breed standard. For protection dogs, ears are often cropped to give one less "grip point" for a potential attacker (they sometimes grab ears to pull off the head/bite) and it is said to help with sound localization, though this is subjective. Similarly tail cropping is required for show dogs, and to minimize risk of manipulation/injury - occasionally done even for non-guard dogs as they are prone to injuring/breaking their tail when overly excited

@@lisanidog8178The Doberman was bred specifically to be a canine bodyguard for a door to door cash money tax collector in bad neighborhoods. The Doberman’s ears and tail are “cropped and docked” to prevent a thief from grabbing them in a fight.
