I made myself "this" for my cruise. I didn't put a checkbook in- i used that side for reciepts & tickets for excursions. It was PERFECT for me! Loved having cards/cash/tickets all in one place!
I needed a checkbook cover for a new bank! So glad I found this. Instead of a credit card holder, I added a second pocket exactly the same as the first for the register. Before attaching them, I measured half way on the long edge, and 3/4" up from the seam allowance. I stiched on 1 1/2" of velcro on each pocket so they have a closure. I love your instructions about the innerfacing and seam allowance. Great! 1
I do that too. Every time I make a wallet, I usually change something about it. I carry a checkbook, just in case, so I add a slot. Thanks for sharing.
Jess, love you and your videos. I am high risk and have to stay home and your videos have saved me. Going to make this today! I have quilted and sewn apparel but you have given me the courage to try my hand at bags😀
Thanks for the video. I’ve been making these with out the elastic strap. Great add on, will be adding this from now on. I also do a see through card slot at the bottom of the card slots.
I make a wallet , my own pattern that has a checkbook holder as well as 12 card slots and zipper pocket its alot more elaborate than this but I still use checks sometimes so I wanted to make myself a checkbook wallet and I have had others request them too. I wish I knew how to make a pdf for patterns but I have no idea. Love to see that im not the only one that still uses checks sometimes.
Great idea Jess! How about putting small pad of paper instead of checkbook and adapting the card slots to hold a couple of colored pencils. Should keep little people busy for awhile.
I just love to watch you sew! It has been years since I have sewn but you inspire me!! I think this checkbook cover is the perfect starter project for me! Thank you!
Love this and I don't what someone else did I but card slots on both sides but now I want to put a zipper pocket on the out side. Thanks for this cute idea
It’s really cute, but next time I make it, I’ll make the space between the pocket and card slot wide enough to accommodate checks and a register. It’s really not adequate now, and needs about another half inch. But great, clear directions.
Thanks so much for posting this! Your work is appreciated. I have been looking for something different to sew & I need this and everyone is getting one for x-mas with a gift card in it too!! I just looked at this pattern Monday 7/26 and so far I have made five and I want to keep them all, lol. Four with fabric and one with some metallic cork fabric I have. Thanks again!!
My nephews are at an age where I now get them gift cards for Christmas. I’ve decided I’m going to make gifts this year for a few people, so I love the idea of using this for gift cards. I’m thinking I’ll make it a little smaller (for the length) and give it a clear pocket inside.
Very cute pattern. I got one like this as a prize from Jazzercize that also has a zipper pouch and is made of vinyl that's getting pretty worn. This will be a good replacement and will make cute stocking stuffers for the young (or old) ladies on my Christmas list. Thanks for this informative and easy to follow video.
Love all your tutorials. If youre looking for new ideas, maybe you can make up one for a keyring hand sanitizer holder. Those would make great Christmas gifts!😀
I too am thinking of adding a card slots to second side like Evelyn mentioned. For a snap closure you need to make allowance for extra bulk so you would make the strap a little longer. The other adjustable option could be a button with elastic loop. I personally want to try the bow.
I ended up adding a flap to have a magnetic snap closure! I didn't have any elastic on hand lol. I kinda like the flap enough that I'll probably keep doing it. I also added the decovil heavy at the end so I didn't have to deal with it coming apart xD
Checkbook, coupons for the day, a small multi page monthly calendar, etc. I have been a tech user since before Blackberry but still use occasional checks and a paper calendar. Ever encountered a computer shutdown and your electronic options are no longer useful? Yes! A great backup plan.
Do you have any videos on how to add a magnetic closure to this? I can follow a tutorial well, but I'm not yet brave enough to change patterns on my own!
Hello. I am wanting to know how I could make this checkbook wallet BUT for it to hold 2 checkbooks and 2 registers ALL IN 1 Wallet! Currently, I use one that has the 2 pockets- but the pockets serve as double duty holding a checkbook and a register. I would like to add one similar to this in the middle just to hold the registers and the main checkbook to hold the checks. Can you please advise how this would be done. Your tutorials are fantastic and so inspiring! Thank You ma’am!
Really love this!! I would love to play around with the dimensions to make it shorter. Since check writing is a “lost art” for some, i would like to make it about 4-1/2 - 5 in wide instead. but this great! Thank you!
I just made one for my daughter sunday night! I made my own template,it turned out ok for a first attempt..i look forward to seeing yours so i can approve on it!!
@@OklaRoots I added a loop of elastic to outer long edge to slip my pen into! love the pattern! and you are my favorite teacher-you explain so well and make things so easy to do!! Thanks for sharing with us!

Hi I am a new subscriber and have tried to find the written info regarding dimensions for the five credit card slotss for this wallet but can't find it I can see the video on your website apologies if I have missed this information could you please advise where I can find it. I was thinking of putting the credit card slots on both side of this so I can carry all my cards and put some cash in the underside of the slots. thankyou
Any tips on dealing with the bulk of the cardslots when topstitching? My topstitching gets wonky where the card slots are the thickest. I was using a topstitch foot. Do I need to use something else?
Can you please point me to a pattern that I can use to make a wallet that can fit in a pocket that has as many card slots as possible or has an additional section, like a bulky pocket, that I can shove the extra cards in? I do not use a purse and I have so many cards and my wallet is falling apart. I needed a new wallet since a few years ago. I can not find anything in the stores that match what I need so I was thinking of making my own.
Do you know how to make envelope system pockets? is that a possibility of making? I am always looking for something more stable to hold the money that I have budgeted for me to use during the week and what better than making my own! I just wish I knew how to make something like this.
Hey is craft fuse the only type you’d recommend or is there any substitutes ? Is sf101 to think or a different texture ? I have a few different types on hand but I must say this is a new one for me lol I have a lot of pellon but I’m going to look I may have to get some of this ! What projects all should you use this type with ? Ty so much again for anouther awesome easy tutorial :-)
So if you don't use craftfuse for the pockets I would just skip interfacing on the pockets. I've found SF101 to be too thick and bulky on those card slots.
Jess OklaRoots awesome good to know ty foe that but good news I stocked up on different stuff like this or at least tried but learned since I have this ! Good to know this now !

Question, if using cork would I still need to use decovil heavy ? I am planning on using the cork also to make the pockets, no cc slots as I just want it basic
I bought a piece of RFID Blocking fabric online. I would put a piece between the lining and outside fabric when sewing it together at the end. Just make sure it is on the outside of the "sandwich" before sewing so that when you turn it, it is inside and unseen. That way your credit cards can't be read via RFID equipment that thieves have these days! It doesn't cost much and adds immeasurable value to any wallet!
I do suggest using the decovil heavy, even with thicker material. It provides a nice firm panel so it isn't floppy. But if you don't mind it being more bendable I say go for it without the firm interfacing!
Jess OklaRoots Ok thank you! Love watching your videos. You really are an inspiration to make things and the way you explain what you are doing is so easy to follow!
My biggest issue with card slots is they are too tight for more than one card and once filled the snap closures don't line up. The elastic band should remedy that last part.
Here are your Time Stamps!

Nice! This is similarly dimensioned as a tea wallet I made for markets last year. Just needs the pockets divided for the width of the tea packets 🍵

Love this project and you are awesome with your ideas. Making one today so wish me luck. How is your beast of an embroidery machine going?
Let me know how it goes Christine! I'm actually using the monster right now (we really need a name for it). It's still beastly, but runs so smooth.
Jess OklaRoots maybe the name should be “gentle Ben”.
Can you make a wallet with keys pocket for credit cards and phone?
Would this pattern fit the pocket calendars also?
Weird question. I noticed your not using your Panasonic iron. Did you not like it? I'm in the process of looking for a newer better iron then what I have.

If using cotton canvas do you need woven interfacing
You should be good without it.
Jess do have have anything that's a cellphone / card /money handheld wallet?
How bout a purse with a drop down front for credit cards?
making my second one - the decovil heavy i feel like it should be called Devil ville heavy, its VERY uncooperative,

Can I substitute the Decoville heavy with Pelion 71F? Are they similar? Also, what is a good substitute for craft fuse?
Yea that looks like it will work!
By changing the shape a bit it would also be a wonderful passport wallet!
I am loving this idea Rebekah!
Question, if using cork would I still need to use decovil heavy ? I am planning on using the cork also to make the pockets, no cc slots as I just want it basic
If you want it to stay really flat and firm you'll want to use the decovil heavy. However, if you're Ok with it more bendable I say try it without!
