Loved Inferno. Thanks so much for getting me to read it. I have just got Know My Name. So pleased you enjoyed The Dry, Force of Nature is amazing too. Must watch the adaptation of The Dry. Need to read Alligator, Hurricane Season, Fever Dream, Writers and Lovers, Infinite Country and Salvage the Bones.
Glad you're feeling better, Grace! I read 'know my name' and 'salvage the bones' last year because of you and they also both made it into my favourite books of last year! Looking forward to another year of reading with you!
Happy to see you looking so well. Your nails survived COVID!! Mine are a mess because it was time to remove my month old gel polish but with the blizzard of Omicron here in the States, I was hardly going to go get them done. Disaster doing them myself, really. They are all breaking and awful now. Oh well. My son's favorite *The Beach* made it to your list - yaay. I must pick up *The Summer that Melted Everything* and *Salvage The Bones* and I will now move *Writers and Lovers* up on my TBR. May your 2022 be truly fabulous. Sending gratitude for your work and a big virtual hug to you! Anne
I’ve been recommending The Summer That Melted Everything and Betty to everyone this past year. I’m so glad you loved them. They’re both incredible books. I hope you feel better.
I read “Know My Name” and “Writers & Lovers” because of your recommendation and they both made it on to my favorite books of the year list! Thanks for the recs and hope you feel better soon!
Welcome back from across the pond! I missed your videos lately and am very glad to hear that you are feeling better! I have added most of your selections to my must-read 2022 list! I appreciate your reading such a variety of books - so often booktubers seem to all pick the same (BOMC) books each month. My UK booktubers seem to find all the bestest(!!) books out there!
Yes, yes, yes. I have been claiming Jesmyn Ward as the writer of the century for a while now. Salvage the Bones is an absolute modern classic. Nothing basic at al about loving A Little Life, especially when you understand it's a novel about love and kindness more than it's about misery and pain. Jude getting adopted is one of the most beautiful things I will ever read. Love this list. I really want to get to Intimacies this year as every review I hear is a rave. Thanks for this, Grace, and hope you have a full and speedy recovery and another great year ahead of reading.
I'm also doing an around-the-world challenge. Def adding Alligator to the Syria pick! I love me a good short story collection. Hope you're feeling better!
I'm so with you on Hurricane Season. Remarkable piece of writing that had a big impact this year for me. You just pushed Katherine Heiney and Patricia Engel up my tbr too.
I usually have a clear winner for Favourite Book of the Year, but 2021was too close to call between The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr, and Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club by Megan Gail Coles. Both of those just hit different for me. I also found a new fave with Jane Harper, and Catherine Cho's memoir got my top spot for NF as well! Thanks for all of the awesome recommendations in 2021 Grace. Hope you're well on the mend from the 'vid and look forward to your reviews in 2022!
It's a toss up for my favorite book of the year between Radio by Tõnu Õnnepalu and The Snakes by Sadie Jones (thanks to your suggestion!). They are very different but both captured my attention and were engrossing characters that I was fascinated by.
I hope you are feeling better! And poor Alex, it was a second time around for him, right? My favourite book of the year was The Proof of Love by Catherine Hall.
‘The Summer that Melted Everything’ blew me away. One of my favourite books of 2021 - ‘Betty’ is on my list for this year and I can’t wait to get to it.
Such a great list! Somehow I feel like I learned more about your reading preferences from this video, very cool 😊 ‘Early Morning Riser’ and ‘Writers & Lovers’ were definite favorites for me as well. Other fiction reads at the top of my list for 2021 were ‘Mr Loverman’, ‘Miss Iceland’ and ‘Tin Man’. Happy belated New Year!
Added The Summer That Melted Everything to my tbr! My favourite book of the year was Girl, Woman, Other, which you've probably read, but if you haven't, I highly recommend it!!!
Glad you are recovering from COVID. I recommend Euphoria from Lily King. Currently reading her new short story collection. My favourite book of 2021 was 'The Wandering ' by Intan Paramaditha. Yes, I went on all the adventures. Listening to you talk about 'Intimacies ' has pushed it up my TBR.
First of all I’m very sorry to hear about Covid! I really hope you feel better soon and your symptoms go away quickly! The fact that I haven’t read many of these makes me really happy because I get to do that now! Thanks girl! 🙈🖤
I really love all your videos grace, peak cosy content. Just wanted to say I’m pretty sure The Dry has been made into a tv show/film which you may be interested in if you didn’t know 😊 glad you’re recovering from miss rona 💜📚 HNY
Nice to see you again! Hope you’re feeling 100 % soon (your video was coherent, enthusiastic, and insightful - would never have known you are unwell). I’ve been following all year, so no surprises, but good to have them all assembled for your year-end summary. Some great choices! Has Alex had Covid twice, or am I misremembering? You said he had it between Christmas and New Year, but I seem to recall him having it earlier, too? Could be I am conflating your household with someone else’s! Wishing you a very Happy New Year and good health and happiness in 2022.
@@GKReads Oh, no! What a rough go he has had - you, too! Can’t remember where I put my coffee cup, but somehow remembered that detail, haha. Better things in 2022!
Hope you continue to feel better! Can’t wait to get to some of these. I’ve got A Little Life on my shelves but scared to start it, not sure I can handle it yet! My favourite book of 2021 was Educated by Tara Westover 👌
Very interesting summary. However, I was expecting to see Consent by Vanessa Sringora on your list 🙂It is one of the boks that I red this year because of your recomendation and it was fantastic. Get well soon!
These are all incredible recommendations, my waterstones wishlist is now v full (in a good way)! Also hope you're feeling better 🥰 here's to a great reading year in 2022🍾
My favourite book last year was My Brilliant Friend. Have you read this? Wonderful book. Next on my pile is Salvage The Bones so now so looking forward to it. Get well soon.
Added The Summer that Melted Everything and Infinite Country to my tbr, they sound beautiful! Salvage the Bones was my favorite book of 2020, it's brilliant, isn't it? And my favorite book of 2021 is the Argentinian best seller Las malas by Camila Sosa Villada, hoping it gets translated soon, I think you'd like it.
I’ve reread The Dry and The Lost Man . Wanting to reread a crime fiction book shows how well it’s written. I love how Jane Harper makes you feel the heat and isolation. I DNFd Hurricane Season. I couldn’t cope with the constant violence and depression. Intimacies was well written but I hated the ending. How it finished ruined the book for me. I loved Writers and Lovers 😍 I DNFd A Little Life. I consider it misery porn. I wanted to throw myself off a cliff by the time I got to the halfway point.
I’m just getting over covid too, thanks for posting! About to read These Silent Woods by Kimmi Cunningham Grant - but last year loved A Little Life but also an oldie And I don’t want to live this life by Deborah Spungen, the mother of Nancy murdered by Sid Vicious. It’s gripping.
I haven't read any Jessmyn Ward so I'm excited to read Salvage the Bones! Is it best to read her trilogy in order, so I start with Where the line bleeds?
I actually read Jesmyn Ward’s books in backwards order so I think you can pick them up however because they’re not relayed other than set in the same town 😊

Thanks so much Anne ❤️
We had a small family wedding on the 27th. The bride and groom spent their honeymoon (at home) with Covid and everyone else doing lateral flow tests.
I’ve been recommending The Summer That Melted Everything and Betty to everyone this past year. I’m so glad you loved them. They’re both incredible books. I hope you feel better.
I think it might have been you who first pointed me towards TSTME so thank you!!
