Hey Brady! I'm a junior film poster designer and wanted to thank you so much for everything you're offering us! I've been using your textures, brushes and actions in many projects now and I'm so grateful :)
That's really nice to hear, thanks Alexis!
yeah me too
How did you get this job? This is something I’ve wanted to peruse as a career and wondered if you had any tips?
@@Moneychestwowow I'm a freelance designer and I started by making fan-made posters on my own until some distributors luckily noticed my work and commissioned a few projects. I'm not full-time designing posters, but it's what I'm trying to do (hence the "junior"). My tips would be to 1. Practice, 2. Make things you actually enjoy. You're really into that niche movie that no one around you seems to have seen? It's fine! It shows your tastes and might interest people with the same taste as yours
@@AlexisVeille Thanks so much for the quick reply and tips! How did your work get noticed and was it a one off project or was it someone stumbling on your portfolio? Also how did you start growing a consumer base freelancing, are you seeing more new customers or multiple people coming back to you? Also did you have any “formal” design training like a 4 year degree or is all your stuff taught?
Everytime I think there's not much left to learn in Photoshop, you push the boundary. Always a pleasure, Brady.
I just dropped my jaw. Who in the world had a minute to think how to hack the smudge tool? Now you now who. Thank you mate.
Hey Brady! I'm a designer and visual artist, and have been using Photoshop for over 5 years now. You've been a huge part of my photoshop journey. Every time you upload a video, I eagerly open it to learn something new, and I've never been disappointed with it. Just wanted to thank you for everything you've been doing for the community! 💫
Seriously I have never seen this man make something not iundusty-level project, every single video is a work of art they all look like they're out of a movie man please dont stop you are no doubt the best designer ut there!
this is insane, since last Thursday, I have been trying to get this effect on some digital paintings I have been working on. I wanted them to look a bit more "painterly" and less smooth if that makes sense, I have spent close to 16 hours over the weekend playing around and got some great results using different brushes and effects, however watching this video makes me wanna cry...lols because this just seems like the straight forward way of doing it. Thanks so much! I love you and hate you....lols
The genuine excitement I get when a new video drops is hard to explain. It's a pleasant "Oh boy, I'm going to learn so much today!"
Combined with "Holy $#!+ How is this even possible?! This wizardry is absolutely unbelievable! What a legend! I'm going to make so much stuff!"😂🙌
Just one word: FUNTASTIC!
Tried it immediately on a 3D Portrait and got a painting within minutes. Thanks a lot!!!!
Already hooked on TextureLabs' earlier tutorial using the Art History brush for painting. And now just one tool for illustrating?! Straightforward, useful, fun, and it reminds me to experiment with tools. Polished off my test run with texture #304 from your website, giving it an even more authentic finish! Many thanks for all you do. :O)
Awesome, ya I found you can get some killer treatments using a combo of Smudge + Art History!
Thanks, Brady. This is super useful as always. Killing it.
Bestest tips, taught in the most enjoyable way... texturelabs is my first option when I'm looking for great textures... Brady, thank you so much for everything you are doing!!!
i recognise Texture labs as REALLY giving power to smaller creators by offering ULTRAPOWERFUL tools and textures to so many people, without veils of corporate IP and data hoarding. i am SO GRATEFUL for the services offered here. absolutely changing my own personal exploration of photoshop and digital arts
The way you applied the technique to the compositions looked awesome! Thanks for sharing this method, I’ll be sure to try it out when I get the chance.
Looks like an absolute game changer, love this effect so much, keep them coming Brady amazing work as always.
Every single video on this channel shows your Photoshop genius! No other channel even comes close!
No bullshit, out of all the tutorials I’ve watched over the years, your channel has been my favourite source of them all to learn new techniques. I’m much grateful for the work you’ve done
MAGNIFICENT illustrative technique! Texturelabs never disappoints.
Always a happy day when another Texture Lab video is posted!
I really love what you've shown today, it kind of reminds us that, at times, we need to take some time on a project and create ourselves versus letting the machine do it all.
Love the texture you got on the phone cord!
One of the best channels on youtube.
Omg this is insane sir.... You got a new subscriber from India🇮🇳
Brady's always the best!
Really looking forward to testing this out on some horror movie poster compositions I never finished a while back to breathe new life into them. Great stuff as always Brady!
I couldn't have thought of using a smudge brush like that in a million years. Thanks for the video!
Smudge Tool works wonders. I make extensive use of this tool for many things, such as sharpening pixelated images or lines. One, use soft brush set to reduced opacity. Two, gently smooth out pixelated areas, making sure to keep as much detail as possible. Three, use sharpening tools to boost detail back up. Unsharp Mask (Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask) and various sharpen/contrast boosting tools available in Camera RAW work great here. Can't express how many times the smudge/sharpen method has saved many otherwise terrible images from the scarp pile. Cheers!! :)
Excellent tips as always, and you have a way of presenting that is just perfect...not too fast, not too slow. Thanks for making these, you've taught me a lot!
Brady you are one of my favourite human beings ever!
So rad. I really miss making things and these videos make me want to get going again
your videos never cease to blow me away with how simple some of the concepts can be, but how amazing the results are.
Great tutorial! Coming back to this for sure
this is a GAME CHANGER , simple yet the outcome is magnificent
I can already see so many possibilities for this. Great video!
Always a good time when Brady uploads. Okay, time to watch the video now.
When I saw the print I thought it would be a tutorial on Art History Brush! - Thanks for sharing! 👏👏👏
Interesting. Thanks. I ventured into a similar territory some tears ago without realizing its potential, in how you used it here, when I was asked to restore someone's relative's old photograph that had creases and damage, missing parts. I employed partly minimal smudge tool techniques with tonal pointillist techniques to disguise the creases and fill in the missing parts. This is actually an inspiring video for me in terms of other work I have in mind.
Outstanding results, Brady! One great way to extend this technique is to start with Threshold to really simplify down to a minimalist portrait, then apply Smudge and create a brushed-ink effect.
Brady I pray for you and love you sir, great teaching!
I love you Brady, thank you for another amazing tutorial
Great. I also use this technique and it helps me a lot.
i've been trying to learn this look forever!
Great tutorial. Gonna go try this.
every single video in this channel is a pro masterclass course. i'm so grateful to have access to internet and subscribe to this channel, you are making people's live changing cause your knowledge sharing. thank u so much sir!
An amazing tutorial just when I needed it most!
SO talented! Thank you so much Brady!
I know it may not be suitable for your channel but I would love to know more about how you mask. Everytime I see your subjects on different backgrounds the hair etc looks amazing :)
BRAVO such amazing content! I subscribed immediately!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 always amazing. Thanks.
you´re the best teacher ever
I have been using the smudge tool for this for years, but never with a brush tip like this.. Which is pretty stupid, because to get a decent result like your, you have to do five times as much strokes. That is a great takeaway! It really is a wonderful tool. Also for blending elements in collages, manipulating masks, suggesting hair or grass. Great to have it in the spotlight!
Hank you very much brady👌🙏from Tanzania 🇹🇿 following
This is amazing I can use this for my retro movie poster design. Am lucky to see this
Always opening my mind to new possibilities. Thank you Brady!
You are the best mentor I've ever had. Thanks for doing this man!
That movie poster is amazing 😍😍 Great work again
THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!!!
Definitely going to to be using this for future work! You're a legend Brady.
thank you for the brush n tut
thanks for the video really cool to see more ways to use the tools
your channel is excellent! thank you!!!!!
Hi Brady, another nice and useful tutorial! I had actually come across this technique quite some time ago, but meanwhile had almost forgotten about it, so this has been a welcome reminder! I've always felt that due to the manual process involved it tends turn out a bit more convincing than ”automatic” procedures with a similar aim that are using Photoshop actions. And you finally sort of mention it towards the end but I, too, think this technique (as it emulates natural media) goes very well with some paper or canvas textures that additionally stress the “analog-ness“ of the the whole thing (besides the brush marks).
WOW! It's simple and very effective. Loved it! 👏👏👏
Best content. ever. Always. Thanks a lot !!
Great asset the Smudge Tool, amazing lesson as usually coming from you Brady! 3DTotal Team mentioned as well in their books about the power of the Smudge Tool but many times I forgot about using it. So today you gave me a welcome refresh. Thank you so much! ❤
Nice to see you again
Hi Brady! It's great that you tell about ways to incorporate digital illustration tools in your workflow! May I suggest that you check out some other tutorials from digital artist (concept art, illustration etc.), and find ways to mix your techniques with theirs. You're sharing some unique knowledge, and this one about smudge tool that I use a lot in paintings made me realize that there might be a lot of untapped potential in a crossover between your techniques and digital artists'.
you are a blessing! thank you for the valuable tips and ideas!!
So simple yet so impressive
amazing tricks, thanks
That Is soo Cool! Love It.
Hey Brady, I'm trying out Affinity products for a bit so it'll be interesting to see how these tutorials translate to those programs. I've been a user of photoshop and a consumer of your tutorials for several years now so hopefully they translate decently well otherwise I'm going to be stuck in the adobe ecosystem 😅
That is really cool! Thank you!
Thank you for gifted so nice&cool brush!
Ive been using a very similar technique to add realistic texture to markings in fur in my digital paintings and it never occurred to me to use it to modify a photo!
Thank you very much!
In general I feel like I don't know a lot about what the brush options do and which tools can be combined with which brush options. A lot of people I think are unclear on basic stuff like how can I get a brush to taper off to nothing, how can I get it change colors, how can I get chunky-looking buildup like real life thick oil strokes? Is a lot of functionality missing without a tablet? How do I Greg Rutkowski without AI?
Would be cool to see more stuff showing off brushes used in non-brush contexts, and along the way maybe you can show some of these things.
REally cool!
yo this is soo coool! love it
This is super useful as always .... Thx a lot for your Amazing content
The most simple tool I NEVER use turns to be amazing useful. Jeeze!
Thank you Brad
brush tool is very useful. thank you
Thanks you’re amazing ❤
Oh man, you are awesome. What to say you are insane.
A suggestion, that other teachers of this process does to REALLY strengthen that painterly look, is to make a copy, go into filters, into filter gallery and then go with Paint Baubles filter. Correct the strength and sharpening as you see fit for yourself, but make sure the baubs is seen. Then do a quick default Smart sharpen on it and you will now have a starter picture that will really end up strengthening your look in the end :)
Isn’t this guy the best thing on RUclips or what!!!? Thanks again for helping me out on my project!!
chill
You are the best! 👌
Beautifully presented, much thanks, where can I find that old folded movie poster texture overlay?
Amaziing!
Just simply great!
very nice tutorial
thank you so much
The texture brush works in Affinity Photo, too!
For those who don't illustrate this, it's interesting and pretty cool, for those who already illustrate this, it's an addition to digital.
Yeah, I'm a digital illustrator, 100% agreed.
😍🤩🥰 JUST LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!
Love your videos
thank you.
Thanks for this tutorial, and the brush set! This is going to be great for lots of things, but especially smoothing out the hair props in 3D renders.
Goddamnit Brady you absolute genius
FYI, the first link doesn't work, but don't worry, I made my own brush. I put the adjustments shown in your video on it and it works fine. Thanks for your video
Ah good catch! Forgot to hit publish on the post :)
Super Cool
thank you
