In this song I challenge someone to point out when Mitch dose take a breath durning his runs……it blows my mind! I also love Avi in this one…..his BASS!!! ❤️
I know, right! There are a few times I'm sure he's taking a quick gasp, but it's usually on a higher note and not as noticeable. I think he's using a bit of circular breathing technique and breathing in a higher note in those runs up and down. BUT...I'm only guessing about this.
The "Christmas Under the Stars" live version of this is where the joke of "the one where Mitch forgets to breathe" really comes from! In a studio version, maybe you can cover it up. But you heard the breath marks from the others in the live version. But not Mitch. Not from the first "Hark how the bells" all the way to "to every home", the whole first line of text!!
That's the thing about Mitch -- not only does he have a beautiful voice, but he knows how to use it. I think Gold is another example of that control as he slides effortlessly and down his register. 😀
I love to call this WHEN THE HELL DOES MITCH BREATHE. Obviously the others do also. 😂…🤗💋🥰. Funny bit of trivia…they had to dig a hole for Scott to stand in so he would be level with the rest.
I went to their concert in Orlando last Wednesday night. They played almost nonstop for 2 1/2 hours. They took a 15 minute intermission and then Kevin and Matt came out and played the cello and the drums while the rest of the crew relax for a minute. I had seats in the 10th row floor and it was absolutely spectacular. They did Carol of the bells, as well. As kiss from a Rose, and a bunch of other holiday favorites
There is a really good live version of this in their ' Christmas Under the Stars' program...it clearly shows how they are as amazing live as inappropriate recording❤
Check out BYU (Brigham Young University) website to see their entire Christmas Under the Stars performance there ‐ about an hour including some interviews. Unlike this interview where the camera cuts away from Mitch in the BYU performance there are no cutaways hence the even greaterc calls of "breathe Mitch, breathe." Just proves he has incredible vocal control. 🙂
The background info for the video shoot, they were looking for a waterfall, hiked into the woods, carrying all of the equipment, including a generator. They never found the waterfall, set up, sang, filmed, got to where they were happy with the footage, and the generator died. They had to pack up and carry everything back out. This is what started my love affair with PTX. This is my favorite Christmas Carol. All of the way in 2012
I'm pretty fond of Mitch slaps! There are videos of them doing this live that are great - Matt said learning this part when he joined was very difficult, that it is very complicated. It's beautiful!
This song is a nod to the choral groups the 4 of them (minus Kevin) grew up performing in, specifically (especially for Avi) madrigals, which this arrangement takes its inspiration from. From the first time I heard this, I've followed Avi's part throughout, listening to the intricate part he sings. It shows the depth of his training, both in opera and classical music.
What a lovely arrangement of this traditionally fast-paced carol. PTX kept the original boucy mood and even dialed it up a notch. Such a fun ride! Mitch is magnificent, and I live for Avi's bass notes. Thanks for sharing this one with us. 💖
This is one of my favorite Pentatonix songs. It’s mind blowing! Whenever reviewers ask which PTX song they should check out, this is always at the top of my list. 🤯
Nick. You must react to “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (Elton John’s song from The Lion King). Pentatonix absolutely blows the roof off of this song. Kirstie and Mitch are phenomenal. Well, hell, they’re all phenomenal. However, I think this is one of their absolute best covers.
There's a fabulous recording of this song live on the BYU channel that shows they can and do perform this song live just as good - if not better than the official. It's their concert Christmas Under the Stars, which, BTW is Chock a block full of incredible PTX Christmas music from their Evergreen album as well as some of these OG's. It's recent, so with Matt rather than Avi and he does an incredible job as usual.
You’d think is one that they have a hard time with live, but they blow it out of the water! I saw them live last year and this was on the set list - simply amazing.
While everyone else is going off on Mitch (and well-deserved, too) this is one of the clearest examples of Scott’s doubling Avi on bass. That early “Dum Dum Dum” isn’t layered in the studio; it’s sung as a section.
great reaction. I love the way they do this one. Hilarious that you went back and were like 'look at Avi right here' and then the video's blurred out lol Also, Mitch's breath control is ridiculous!
Wonderful reaction. To get a proper Mitch Slap, react to Pure Imagination/Christmas Time is Here. Then O, Holy Night to get Matt Attacked, Scot Punched and Kirstin TKOed. It was released a week ago.
Hi Nick, loved your review and comments. As you have Australian connections, give your ears a treat and spend a little time with John Farnham. His cover of the Beatles classic 'HELP' is tremendous (the one with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra). In Oz he's known as The Voice. Cheers mate 🙂
Hey there, Nick. I found you through Bo and fell in love with your reactions and stayed. Anyway, i have a song recommendation! It's called 'Pornstar Tits' by Elizabeth Mclamb. Strong title, i know. There's no music video, you'll only find lyrics videos, but don't let that stop you. It raises awarness of how girls get sexualised and is also a fucking banger and i recommend it, 100%.
You can enjoy each member's features and talets through "Problem" which is Ariana Grande cover. ruclips.net/video/4Z9b2HiW_L8/видео.html And also, "Aha!" which is Imogen Heap cover shows you Avi's super technique of overtone (throat singing ). It is not only growl. It is so brilliant. Hope you may try these. ruclips.net/video/qxY9qkfZMI8/видео.html
Not a vocal scholar by any means, but some have said something about this song requiring circular breathing? 🤷🏾♀️ Wouldn't know anything about it, at all!
Yes, it was unbelievable to see the control Mitch had as a young 20 year old young man. Very impressive.
In this song I challenge someone to point out when Mitch dose take a breath durning his runs……it blows my mind! I also love Avi in this one…..his BASS!!! ❤️

Sir Hairless reacted to this, and pointed out the parts where Mitch was taking "sips" of air
A PTX classic…fun fact…they literally dug a hole for Scott to stand in so that he wouldn’t tower over everyone else…lol.
"Look at Avi's face here!" - video immediately gets blurred. Made me laugh :) Happy Christmas!

Mitch may be using a technique of taking mini breaths which are not noticeable but require expert vocal control. Amazing. Otherwise, he's an alien.
That's the thing about Mitch -- not only does he have a beautiful voice, but he knows how to use it. I think Gold is another example of that control as he slides effortlessly and down his register. 😀

😂😂😂😂
Haha I didn’t know that about Scott! Lol 😂
OMG, I never thought of it, but you're right, he looks like he's barely taller than Avi! And he'd definitely be at his full height at this point.
The perfect example of circular breathing. You can see the appreciation in your facial expressions.
Oh, dance of the sugar plum fairy is also awesome!

Their version of this song is played at the very beginning of the Christmas movie - The Star!!!
What a lovely arrangement of this traditionally fast-paced carol. PTX kept the original boucy mood and even dialed it up a notch. Such a fun ride! Mitch is magnificent, and I live for Avi's bass notes. Thanks for sharing this one with us. 💖
Can you imagine opening your front door to this song? I WOULD DIE! ♥️🎁🎄🎁♥️
This is one of my favorite Pentatonix songs. It’s mind blowing! Whenever reviewers ask which PTX song they should check out, this is always at the top of my list. 🤯
Yes! Mind blowing. And Mitch looks like a baby. So young!
Please do their newest Oh Holy Night video. It is stunning.

They were in concert last night in Austin...a dream come true.

I really appreciate how you always urge viewers to subscribe to the artists’ channel. No one else ever does that! ❤
Agree!

Breathe, Mitch!
God rest ye merry gentlemen and little drummer boy are probably my favs lol. So fuckin good, and god rest ye merry gentlemen is cool as hell

Love this! The color in your face even changed along with your expression!
This song blows my mind every time! Brilliant!

Thanks for my request Nick! Love that it made you speechless! (Meant that in a good way, of course haha)
Double the blessing! My absolute favorite from the Avi days. Love Avi's bass! ❤
PTX🔥🤘
Lol.. love the blushing! 😊
That was SPECTACULAR!!💚💚
Hi Nick, Greetings from Oz, wishing you, and those close to you, a very happy and successful 2024. Keep up the great work Mate. ;-)
Same to you Martin :)

Thanks, will do!
Thanks nick! Looking forward to it!
Please try PTX "DANCE OF THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRY". Sooooo talentive.
They turned one of my least favorite Christmas carols, I had to sing it in high school choir🙄, into one of my most favorite.
The magic that is PTX.
So gorgeous...
Have to see the live version with Matt
I love the the Musikk❤

It's weird. Perfume medley (j-pop) will make you believe that Kristy is the best singer! Thanks for watching my suggestion! 😅😊😊

Another upgrade...
