In the truck analogy, this is me: I'm so thankful that I received the truck with no strings attached, that I want to prove to myself I'm worthy of it. Then when I fail, I don't get mad at others. I get mad at myself. I've always been pretty gracious towards others, but not toward myself. I've never thought that I would be kicked out of God's family. I've always known that he loves and forgives me eternally. But I've always been disappointed with myself for not living up to what I felt he demands. When in reality, all he demands is faith in Him who saves. And even then, it's Christ who sustains my faith. I think this is one of your best videos that explains godliness versus pietism. Thank you.

_"A Christian should avoid unhealthy religiosity: both the feeling of superiority due to virtue, and the feeling of inferiority due to sinfulness."_ St. Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia
The answer is in Romans 6:1-4, no longer religiosity to the letter of the law, as being dead to sin and unable to sin is virtuous. Else a person is not baptised.
Godliness is when you as a broken vessel realize that even though you can do NOTHING good on your own, as a new creation in Christ you don't HAVE to do good works but rather you NOW GET to do good works. What was unavailable to you previously without being reborn, and what is still unavailable to you in the power of your flesh, is now not only possible through the power and working of the Holy Spirit in you, but actually probable (Ephesians 2:10). Legalism is your vain attempt to "bring something to the table" in your relationship with God. It is trying to do good works to make God happy with you. It is misunderstanding God is happy with you NOT because of what you do for Him, but rather is immensely happy with what HE has begun to do, and is continuing to do THROUGH YOU for His glory and your benefit. The Christian life is meant to be lived in faith, not only faith He saved you, but also faith that He is continually working through you both to will and work for His good pleasure. (Father I can't wait to see what you have prepared for me today!)
@@Bob_the_Believer The only thing you bring to the table is obedience of faith, Adam failed, but we must do good works in obedience to God's righteousness, not works of darkness lest any man should boast. Show me your faith and I will show you my works, as faith without good works is dead, as Romans 6:2 we must be dead to sin. Yes in godliness we get to do good works, but in legalism if we fail to do good works we cannot be justified, there are two statutes either serve God or the other one.
@@simonskinner1450 guess we will just have to agree to disagree. When I say “bring to the table” I mean generate, produce, or be the source of. I agree faith manifests in obedience and good works but the faith I have was a gift. The Holy Spirit opened my eyes and continues to do so granting me faith that justifies as well as faith that sanctifies. But all of it is His work in me. What do you have that you did not receive?
@@Bob_the_Believer Describing a saving faith is not easy, so I would always make allowance in the use of words, but not the whole concept of faith. It is WE that must believe which is the substance of OUR hope, and as all that is not of faith is sin, it is our choice to be either an Isaac or Agar as Galatians 4 to be the children of the promise of eternal life, or serve sin and be condemned. The gift of grace is through your generated faith. I am not happy to a or d, hence my Ytube videos 'Myths in so-called Christianity' as we must agree one faith.
This has been a helpful approach for me: A believer has already judged themselves by the Law.. and has been killed by the Law. You not only haven't kept it, you CANT. The Law was given to shut every mouth and condemn you before God.. Those who believe the Gospel.. who understand ONLY Christ can save you.. give you life.. why would you go back to the Law to judge yourself? Do you seek to reform the flesh?? To reform the man of sin?? That man of sin is condemned.. your flesh is condemned.. there is no reforming the old adam.. life is in the Spirit.. and your new body and immortality is not yet come.. trust in the promises of God.. He cannot lie, and He is more than capable of doing all He has promised. Do what is good that you know.. for the good of others.. restrain yourself from acting on your evil desires, for the sake of not causing harm to others. If you are still worried about proving yourself, then you dont yet realize that God has been trying to PROVE something to YOU.. believe what God testifies to regarding sin.. righteousness.. and judgment.
The covenant with God has both in two statutes, godliness is one, and legalism is the other for those who reject the Spirit, and they go under the law of sin and death.
So my question… how should someone who is legalistic or pietist who has been very judgemental in how they bring reproof and rebuke, what would you tell that person about how to bring correction to another Christian? Or another way to ask is how would a godly person bring reproof to a fellow question? Thanks!
To give a little different view of your brother and his truck. Your father has given both you and your brother a new truck, you both received your gift as intended by your father, but you see your bother always clean his truck, changing the oil etc. you may assume that the only reason your brother is constantly attending his truck is because your father instructed both of you to watch over your new truck and to look after it. Not only that your father said that you would struggle on your own to do what He asked and told you not to be afraid to ask him for help. The motivation of your brother may seem legalistic, or it might be that as your brother loves the gift he loves his father more and receives joy in the gift and in showing his appreciation, values both the gift and the Giver. What you judge as good people, legalists, might just be a Great full brother.
The Gospel Genesis-Revelation is very simple easy to understand. Keep the Word of God simple don't add anything and don't take anything away. If we struggle to do what is moral and resist what is immoral then we are following rules/commandments that aren't our identity but are imposed on us.
