Thanks for this not only will it work perfectly for my little girl who LOVES her tutu's but it will be fantastic to go around the bottom of her birthday cake!
Perfect way to make an adult tutu as well, in my case I am going to make a long one for Mardi Gras which is on March 4, 2014 should anyone care. LOL. This is really cute!!!
This video really helped my friend. She needed to get a tutu for a Minnie Mouse costume and couldn't find any skirts. We relied on crafts to make the skirt and this video was soooooo helpful. Thanks!

I am going to make a bunch of these for my daughter's 7th birthday in December. i am clearing out my living room , buying flashing laser lights, and a god machine and a mirrored ball to hang in my living room. A huge speaker, and possibly a dj who can play EDM music and it's a kids rave party! I am going to make these tutu skirts for the girls! I think I may be looking at making up to 12 tutu. I am going to use my daughter's waist as measurement, since most of her class mates are around the same size as her. i know two girls a re little bit wider around the waste but it should not be that difficult to make these for them! my daughter is so excited. At least i have time for planning and actually making the tutus....its why i am on youtube and googling how to make these myself. Because buying them from someone who hand makes them cost about $20-$30 per tutu. I rather sea money and make our own. Plus the girls will love them even more. it will mean a lot more in their little hearts that I and my daughter made them as a gift for them. Instead of a goodie bag, their gift will be the rave tutus. Now I just gotta go buy the stuff this week (materials to make the tutus) and next after I make the tutus I have to figure out how I can make the fake fur arm and leg warmers for them.
This was so helpful my friend needed a lot of help on making the right tutu for her mom. I introduced her to trr of the ribbon retreat and everything was on time.Thanx sooooooo much. With your help any clothing is possible. Thanx thanx thanx thanx.
that's awesome I just looked at your tutorial I think I'm going to try making this looks kind of easy I have 5 grand daughters range from ages 8 3 2 1 6 month and 1 more coming in may after the storm I'm going to buy the suplex n order some from your sight I found me a new craft hobbi thanks
Such a great job! I tried this with longer tulle to try and make an "empire" style dress. For the life of me I can't make my knots like that! SO much white elastic shows and my knots turn out sort of thing. I'm using 6in wide strips at about 20-21 in long. The I try not to pull the knots too tightly to prevent the band from folding, but they are still so much smaller than yours! Should I make them more loose? Do you have any issue with them slipping with how you tie them? Thanks :)
So the 16 in. Elastic work's for 0-6 month, then like do you add an inch for like every 3 months..like 9 months 17 in. And 12 mon. 18 in? Then when you start doing 18 month what would elastic length be 19 in?? And 24 months? Thank you for the info!!
Hi Angel! Yes. That should work. It is hard to know exactly. The best thing to do is to measure the waist, if you can. But, if not....it is just a general measurement. Have a great day!
Hi Ginger! I do not use starch on my tulle wreaths. But you absolutely could if you wanted to. I've heard a spray starch works best in dealing with tulle. Good luck! -- Shirley :)
Hi Lauren! If you look in the "description" of this video....you will see a chart that we have that will help you with the measurements Hope that helps. I have included the measurements in this comment, as well. Have a great day! Approximate Tutu Measurements and Length to cut tulle 0-6 Mos - 7 in - cut tulle at 16 in 6-12 Mos - 8 in - cut tulle at 18 in 12-24 Mos - 9 in - cut tulle at 20 in 2T/3T - 10 in - cut tulle at 22 in 4T/5T - 11 in - cut tulle at 24 in 5/6 - 12 in - cut tulle at 26 in
+Angela Moran Hi Angela! You would want to use the 1" wide elastic. To determine the size of your waist, the best thing to do would be to take a measuring tape and measure your waist. Then, you would know how long to cut the elastic. If you don't have a measuring tape....if you happen to have a piece of string....that would work, too. Wrap the string around your waist and then cut it. Take the elastic and match the string. :) Have a great day! I hope that helps!
I have made a few for my 2 year old daughter and I size her before, then I cut the crochet headband and sew it together, then I made the tutu. When I'm done and put it on her, it's too big!!! What am I doing wrong? Also, a few friends of mine want me to make a tutu for their daughters and they are all different sizes. I've saved a few different size charts and the one you have above seems to be more precise than the other ones I have used. When making the 12-24 I was using 7in- cutting 14 in. Doing that, I found that the tutu was really really short. So I guess I had the measurements wrong?
+Ashley Altman Hi Ashley! When you are sizing, stretch the crochet headband a bit. When the tulle goes on, it stretches the headband, so that's why it seems too big. The measurements we have for a 12-24 mo tutu is 9 in - so cut the tulle at 20 inches. Hopefully, that will help. If you are using a crochet headband for the waist, we do have a tutorial for that, as well. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/0zXYq2SuAcY/видео.html Have a great day!
+Angelina Pardo Hi Angelina! That's awesome you want to make a Halloween tutu! :) So, I would take the tulle before you cut it and measure from your waist the length you want it to be and then measure it. Then, for the measurement, take the length you measured and double it. Then add two inches. So for example, if you want a tutu at 9″ in length, then you need to cut each strip to be 20″ long. I hope that helps! Have a fun Halloween! :)
Hi Aman! We offer several different shipping options to Canada via the USPS. The quickest we have is USPS Priority Mail Express, which would be approximately 1-2 weeks. Then, Priority Mail Int'l, which would take approximately 2-3 weeks. So, unfortunately, we would be unable to get you the product by the 23rd. I am so sorry. Have a wonderful day!
i loved your tutu i'm planing to make it for my dog she's a toy poodle oh and i have a suggestion for a video it should be about how to make a dog dress
+Kelsey Grace Hi Kelsey! 5 yards of elastic would be plenty. The amount of tulle just depends on the length of the tutu. We have a measurement guide in the video description to help you know how much tulle you need. Have a great day!
I think you can. I have tried a different kind of tutu with elastic and I glued the ends together. But it was for some one else so like ☝️ they said I agree I'm not sure if it will hold on for long
A question, I have seen alot of videos and one thing no one ever mentions is the LENGTH of the spools of tulle? 6" wide by how much length? It comes in 10 yards, 25 yards...even up to 100 yards?
Hi Just wanted to ask you that my daughtr will soon be 1yr in couple of months so what waist size shud i take and what shud be the length of tutu skirt And hw mny inches broad shud the tutu be... One more thing the measuremnts u reply me can that be used to make any othr tutu too or only specifically urs... Well urs is grt so the elastic wont bend.....hope mine turns too gud as urs abit
Hello mam, i m live in india.i want to make tutu dress but this fabric was not avilable in my city.can i use starhed net? Pls reply soon ,im wating for ur ans.
hello, I have a few questions, I would like to make some tutus for my dance group which are 3rd and 4th graders, my first question is do I measure their waist and add an inch to it for ex. if someone is 23 waist add 24? Also, what do you mean by add more tulle if I want fuller? Do you mean in between I can add more? I'm so lost. Plz help. Thank you in advance
+KeyJuana Covington Hi KeyJuana! Yes. You would add an inch because when you sew the elastic, you overlap it about an inch. To make your tutu fuller....you would cut more strips of tulle and tie more strips onto the elastic. I hope that helps! Have a great day!
Solomon M What you can do is to take a tape measure and measure out from your waist to where you would want the tulle to end. Take that measurement and double that, and then add two inches. That is the length you will cut each tulle strip. I hope that helps! Have fun making your tutu! :)
Hi Julie! What you can do is to fill a spray bottle with lukewarm tap water and then add 2 tablespoons of liquid fabric softener to the water. Shake the bottle to mix them, then mist each layer of tulle lightly with the mixture, starting with the bottom layer and working your way up. Be thorough, but do not over-mist the layers or the tulle will be too damp to wear. Repeat, as needed, throughout the day or before you wear the tutu. Hope that helps! :) Have a great day!
Hi Deepali! The number of strips used is just a matter of preference depending on how full you want the tutu. So, there really isn't a set number. Have a wonderful day!
Hi Ana! We have the measurements needed in our video description, above. The # of strips just depends on how full you want your tutu to be. For this video, she used about 2 spools of the 6" tulle. Have a wonderful day!
Hi I m Zehra I belong to India and I don't get the things for making that skirt and I have to give it to some one now what to do can you answer me soon please i need your reply
Hi Zehra! We have all the items needed to make this tutu on our website. You can find the links in the video description, above. :) Have a wonderful day!
Hi Mihaela! The tutu size of this tutorial is for a newborn. The length to use for a newborn to 6 months is approximately 6-7 inches. To cut your tulle to the measurement you need for a tutu that is 6-7 inches, please see the description below our video. :) Have a great day!
Hi Kenzie! The pink stuff is called Tulle. :) We have it available on our site. Here is the link: www.theribbonretreat.com/Catalog/tulle-tutus--pettis.aspx Have a great day!
Abby Plaskitt-stanley Hi Abby! Using tulle would be the best....but you can always try and use old clothes and cut them in strips. The tutu would not be as "fluffy" using fabric as it would using tulle. :) Have a wonderful day!
Is this for dogs lol cuz I searched dog clothes and this was what I got lol 😂 btw this is very very pretty I don't really like pink I'm a girl actually just using my dads iPad lol :3
+Kyla Alpin Hi Kyla! The yardage depends on how many strips of tulle you want and how fluffy you want it to be. There is 36 inches per yard. What you can do is to take a tape measure and measure out from your waist to where you would want the tulle to end. Take that measurement and double that, and then add two inches. That is the length you will cut each tulle strip. Once you determine the number of inches each strip is....you will be able to see approximately how many yards you will need. I hope that helps. Have a great day!
Slip Knot = Best knot! 🤘

Hello! when you say to add more tulle if it's not fluffy enough, how do you do that? do you just grab add more strips to each?
Hi Martin! Yes, just add more strips and "bunch" the tulle closer together. :) Have a great day!
I'm 13 and I'm making a tutu for Halloween but how do I know what measurement to cut for the ruffle

Going to use this to make a tutu for my daughters first birthday
How many yards of elastic should I order for an adult 8-9 and a newborn? Is 5 yards enough? Also, how much tulle should I buy of each as well?
+Kelsey Grace Hi Kelsey! 5 yards of elastic would be plenty. The amount of tulle just depends on the length of the tutu. We have a measurement guide in the video description to help you know how much tulle you need. Have a great day!
Cool
What length elastic do you think I would need for a 5 year old. She is thin to avg size? She runs on the taller side for length. Thanks a bunch!
+Jennifer Abel Hi Jennifer! The easiest way to find out the length of the elastic you would need is to measure her waist. :) Have a wonderful day!
Can I hot glue the end of the elastic bands together?
I don't think it will hold... but you never know if you never try~♡♥
I think you can. I have tried a different kind of tutu with elastic and I glued the ends together. But it was for some one else so like ☝️ they said I agree I'm not sure if it will hold on for long
You could velcro it
Cute
muchas gracias por su enseñanza saludos de colima mexico
A question, I have seen alot of videos and one thing no one ever mentions is the LENGTH of the spools of tulle? 6" wide by how much length? It comes in 10 yards, 25 yards...even up to 100 yards?
Hi Laurrie! That is a good question. :) We use the 6" x 25 yard spools. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you so much! I wanted to be sure I bought the correct length. Your tutorials are awesome by the way!

Hi Llovesjd! You can use the 3 inches, but will most likely need to use more. :) Have a great day!

Thank you so much, yes it did really help
Oh and by the way I making a tutu and I'm 8 yr old but i don't know the measurements. Do you have any suggestions?
Solomon M What you can do is to take a tape measure and measure out from your waist to where you would want the tulle to end. Take that measurement and double that, and then add two inches. That is the length you will cut each tulle strip. I hope that helps! Have fun making your tutu! :)
When ordering do I buy the 3" or 6"
Delany Key Hi Delany! You would want to purchase the 6". Have a great day!
How do you get rid of static?
Thanks! I have to use unscented since my baby has sensitive skin.
how many strips do we need to make one tutu.
Hi Deepali! The number of strips used is just a matter of preference depending on how full you want the tutu. So, there really isn't a set number. Have a wonderful day!
How many yards do i need For one 12-24 m tutu? How many strips?

Hi Kenzie! The pink stuff is called Tulle. :) We have it available on our site. Here is the link: www.theribbonretreat.com/Catalog/tulle-tutus--pettis.aspx Have a great day!
Hi. Is this a soft tulle or the thick one? Thanks..
+Sandra Fe Belhot Hi Sandra! This is a soft tulle. It isn't stiff or scratchy. :) Have a great day!
Haha I’m making one of these for my cat 😂
Aww cute xD
Is the tulle you provide a soft feel or rough
Hi Renee! The tulle we carry has more of a soft feel. :) Have a wonderful day!
Does it have to be tudle can u use old clothes plz answer😘😎😎😎😎
Abby Plaskitt-stanley Hi Abby! Using tulle would be the best....but you can always try and use old clothes and cut them in strips. The tutu would not be as "fluffy" using fabric as it would using tulle. :) Have a wonderful day!
Slipknot tutu, this is so metal.
Haha I see what you did there.
Is this for dogs lol cuz I searched dog clothes and this was what I got lol 😂 btw this is very very pretty I don't really like pink I'm a girl actually just using my dads iPad lol :3

+Burkley Boo 2 lol
Hi..I want to make a tutu... for my daughter she is going to turn 6 in July how much of this tulle stuff will I need.. thank you
Hi Diana! You would probably want to get 2-3 spools, depending on how "fluffy" you want the tutu to be. Have a great day!
Mira el video
Lorena Llamuca mira el video... Explica todo
+The Ribbon Retreat Hi, is it 6x25 yard or 6x100yard we need? thanks
