My gateway to Pokémon was watching it, since I was a baby. As I got older, I played some Pokémon games online and watched some people play. When I was in high school, I participated in Pokémon club. People played some Pokémon games on their Nintendo DSs and some had their cards out. I wore my Pokémon t-shirt in that club.
I grew up playing Pokémon with my brothers since the day they released. I’m now 36, making sure me and my step son get different versions so we can be rivals, just like me and my brothers used to. This franchise will always be super close to my heart.
It's gotten boring and repetitive. Nintendo likes to eat people's money that's why RUclipsrs and gaming community have been calling them out lately. I'm glad more developers are making monster taming games to rival pokemon so it will force pokemon devs to innovative and make the game better. I love competition. Competition between Game studios = better games
2016 the summer of Pokemon Go was the closest thing to capturing that initial wave of Pokemon. Truly a magical era that I am thankful to have been alive for.
My gateway into Pokémon was the anime. My parents bought a VHS tape of the very first 3 episodes and I was hooked immediately. Nowadays I play Pokémon competitively, traveling to Regional Championships every once in a while and meeting new members of the community
There’s just nothing like the 90s and 2000s era of Pokémon I was there to experience it all. It’s almost like telling a fable of time there’s just no way to replicate that feeling of the time.
1998 through 2000 was such an incredible time for us especially. It was all so exciting! Remember everybody freaking out about the new Pokémon "Pikablu"?!?
I wish all kids getting into Pokémon could experience what it was like for those of us who lived through the first wave. 1998 to 2000 was a MAGICAL time. Collecting the imported original Japanese cards, discovering the missingno glitch in Red version, getting an Ancient Mew card when seeing the first movie, getting SO EXCITED seeing the very first glimpses of Gold and Silver on primitive web pages that didnt have an auto-translate option. I'm so glad I got to live through it all.
On October 1st, 1998 (my 10th birthday), my mom picked me up from school and drove me to Kmart where she told me to pick something for my birthday. I had selected "Pokémon Red version". I've been hooked ever since. I've played Pokémon around the world, and my SoulSilver game is still registered in Afghanistan (which is where I was deployed when I started playing that title). I was fortunate enough to secure a spectator pass and get the Pokken Tournament LCQ option for the World Championships in 2019. I still play competitive Pokémon to this day, and judge TCG, VG, and GO events.
Red and blue came out 3 years after i was born.. (September 7th 93) and my older brother got me into it growing up.. i am 29 years old and pokemon has always and will always be part of my life ❤️
This 30+ minute anime documentary was great courtesy of theirs truly, WatchMojo. Wish we could see more of those vintage popular anime documentaries like that. It's worth the watch.
It's a good time to be a Pokémon fan! High hopes for news of Netflix's live action TV series! I begun to like Pokémon in 2019, and I got back to playing Pokémon Go in late 2022 after I stopped playing it in late 2016. I've also watched Detective Pikachu for the first time, and it gives me so many ideas of a live-action series. This year, I now have a Switch and completed the main storyline of Pokémon Violet! :)
I've grew up with Pokémon my whole life. I would've never been a huge fan if I haven't been introduced to this incredible Pocket Monster series! Thank you for an incredible journey with the Games, Anime and Cards. You will always have a place in my heart! Time to be the best like no one ever was! ❤️❤️
I have been a Pokemon fanatic since before i was even a teenager (I'm 31) and i am still gonna rock with my favorite franchise until it can't go no more~ I still play the games and still see the anime/ movies and own plenty of Merchandise!❤
Same here. The one that got me into the series was Pokemon crystal on the game boy color. Also I had a movie as well on VHS as well. I can't remember the name of it .
I was a part of the Pokémania in 1999, such a great time 😊😊 I was obsessed with the anime and the 1st and 2nd generation games 🎮 The movies were good, too, but I never got into the trading card games lol. In 2003, my parents pushed me to give my Pokémon stuff to my cousins, and being a teenager then, other interests followed quickly... But in my early 20’s, i started watching and playing again, i never got into the Pokémon after the 2nd generation though, and have done so ever since 😂 i also bought the Pokémon manga. I recently visited the Pokémon Café and Pokemon Centre in Tokyo, Japan, and had such a blast 😂😂
It was late ‘98-‘99. I borrowed my classmate’s Pokémon Red in the 7th grade and I couldn’t stop putting it down. Eventually got Red and my sister got Blue. Started watching the anime and collected the cards (which I still have to this day, including a shadowless Charizard). Pokémon is life.
My first card was ancient mew, I still have it today. Back then, none of my friends knew how to play the game. We just collected, traded, & told stories of how our collections came to be. Once Yugioh cards came the the U.S., some of us sold our cards for Yugioh packs. Yugioh was my main thing up to June 2017, when link monsters became meta. Sometime in 2016, one of my nieces wanted pokemon cards & learn how to play. I finally learned the basic rules of the TCG, thanks to various RUclips videos. Nowadays, I play both Pokemon & Yugioh TCGs casually
I can’t remember “What year I started playing the TCG” around 98 or 99. Pokémon yellow game in 2000 I have been playing Pokémon over last 20 years now at the 38 still enjoy the Pokémon 0:05
I was a baby when pokemon released in the States, so i grew up with the anime, but my first real love for it came from the tcg and having the collection of cards. It wasnt til gen 3 that i actually played a game, and it will always be my favorite generation. Heres to hoping pokemon never slows down and never misses, to new generations and old alike. Pokemon is what brings us all together. We all live in a pokemon world.
I was born in 1998, I started watching Pokémon as a baby. Became obsessed, first game was Crystal, then Sapphire. I followed the games and anime since then. I did lose interest into my teen years but I came back on it during XY and up until Journeys
Always been a huge fan of Pokemon ever since I spotted the card craze at school and got into the anime which lead me to the original games and continue to enjoy the franchise to this day. Whatever is set on the horizon for Pokemon, it'll be something to keep me going each time
Pokemon is the best ever!. I've been watching the pokemon series when I was 9 yrs old. It took me a while but I got the hang of it the more i watched it. The anime, video games, and plushes.
my brother and sister got me into pokemon the first thing i saw was the anime from ashs journey in kanto upto now then played diamond has my first game on nintendo ds then on the 3ds and now on the switch never played the original games but have played heartgold and soulsilver plus lets go games also have a lot of pokemon plushes
Ever since Pokémon first debuted in the USA back in September 1998, I was so curious over what this show was. My younger sister (then 7) and I (then 11) started by watching the anime, played the video games, collected plush beanies of certain Pokémon (like Pikachu), and finally the card games. Good times dating back to the late 90s-early 2000s. Oh, and don’t get me started on the first three movies. We were there for them all and the crowds at our local theater were huge. A line forming around the building? Insane. 😮
This is a great documentary! These are some interesting facts about how Pokémon conquered the world. I learned about flickering lights causing kids to have seizure-like symptoms or go blind in previous videos. A streamer I watched talked about Pokémon being banned in schools in his day. Today, there are still some schools that ban Pokémon. The commercials looked great! Ashley, I see you grew your hair out! I like it.
Pokémon Sapphire was not only my first ever Pokémon game, it was also my first ever video game (or at least the first one I can remember). The first episode of the show I can remember watching is the one where Ash catches Snorunt. All these years later, and I have a whole display case full of Pokémon figures, posters all over my room's walls, and I have at least one main series game from every generation.
My favourite region is the Unova region. Because they have a variety of unique pokemon designs and also host my fav pokemon game of all time, White 2. But that doesn't mean I enjoy the whole franchise. I am more of a gamer guy and I am happy I got into these wonderful games. I hope Nintendo and Gamefreak won't stop creating more pokemon. Have a great future trainers.
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! Pokémon GO was amazing when it first came out. There were quite a lot of Pokémon GO players holding their mobile phones in certain spots up until 3 years ago or so.
My older cousin had a Gameboy Advance with Pokémon Ruby on it that I would play every time I went over to my grandma's house he eventually let me have both his Gameboy and Pokémon Ruby and I've been a fan ever sense then.
I got into Pokémon starting from the very first game Pokémon Red and Blue. The first game in the franchise is also my first Pokémon game I’ve ever played. But I was only into playing the game rather than collecting. I got more into Pokémon starting from the anime. Pokémon has grown into popularity a lot and while it’s popularity level today is different from when it started, that doesn’t mean Pokémon is disappearing. Pokémon will live on forever
I got into the franchise in 1998, but I had to settle with the Anime and TCG, collecting more than playing, due to my parent's low income. But on my 11th birthday, I got both Yellow and Crystal. I still play the TCG semi-competitively, watch the anime, and play any main line release games. I'll be playing Pokémon until the franchise ends; but, Pokémon will be with me to the grave.
Pokémon Ga-Ole, a weird spin-off Pokémon arcade game, is also one of the most successful games. Although not released in countries such as those in North America, it is released in Japan and certain countries in Asia including South Korea. For those who do not know, it is an arcade game that requires peripherals (which are case disks) and trainers collect these for their collection
What brings me nostalgia is remembering the holographic stickers that the ice cream would sell in Los Angeles. I'm definitely a generation one kid #151
I played Pokémon Blue and Red when they first came out and have been a fan ever since also I have loved the anime and films but I am sad to see Ash go but I am looking forward to what Pokémon does next.
I grew up playing the Pokémon games starting with Pokémon Emerald and watching the anime when the artstyle was amazing from gen 1 to 6 and now I've gotten back to playing the games by playing the fan made games like Pokémon Solar Light and Lunar Dark and in the moment Pokémon Opalo 😊
I got into Pokemon when it was still called Pocket Monsters because one of my neighbors had the green version game and let me borrow it for a couple of days to give it a try.
It was Pikachu that made a lot of kids to go to the hospital, not Porygon. Can we please stop blaming the wrong and poor one? It's embarassing at this point. It's your favorite maskot that caused that madness.
My first game was Yellow and I went and got the others and another GBC so I can link trade with myself since I had no friends. Now I have all of the main series games and a husband who isn't into it as much as I am. Still gonna catch 'em all.
It was actually because of Digimon that I got into Pokemon. It was the very first anime series I saw. Before, since I was a little boy, I only watched stuff from Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network. My top 3 favorite shows were always Power Rangers, Muppets, and Care Bears. Power Rangers was the only reason why I watched Fox Kids, but over time I got into a few other shows like Beetleborgs and Mystic Knights. Now I didn’t play video games when I was younger. So I was never into Pokemon. I only first learned about it through lunchables and other stuff, but it never interested me. I was still too into Power Rangers. In fact I used to tape record PR Lost Galaxy and my favorite episodes of Mighty Morphin thanks to Power Rangers Power Playback. But then I started seeing promos on TV for Digimon. Because of the “mon” part I thought it was a spin-off of Pokemon. I didn’t know Japan made their own cartoons, so I knew nothing about anime. I think the first anime I learned about was Dragonball Z through these Bandai toy guides I got with my Power Rangers Turbo toys. And I saw some minor stuff of Sailor Moon but I never watched any of them. The day Digimon aired on Fox Kids in the summer, I had gone to the Philadelphia Zoo with my mom and uncle through this work thing of my mom’s. We set the VCR to record Power Rangers Power Playback when it came on, but when I got home to play it, it was the series premiere of Digimon that had gotten recorded. Naturally I was distraught, though I thought it was a fluke or something. But the same thing happened the next week. Power Playback had been taken off and replaced with Digimon. I was so upset. I hated both Pokemon and Digimon. But eventually I watched the 2 Digimon episodes and got into them. The rest was history. I started really getting into Digimon, but having no sense of time and scheduling back then I missed episodes and got lost story wise. Eventually by the 8th child arc I got caught up and realized the show took place in Japan. At the same time I started getting into the Pokemon anime on WB as well as Monster Rancher and Flint The Time Detective. But it wasn’t until after I graduated from elementary school that I got curious about the video games. That summer my parents and I went up to the Poconos and my mom made me get a gameboy to keep myself busy. So when we went to Best Buy to get one, I got a Platinum Gameboy Advanced and decided to get Pokemon Crystal for it along with the official strategy guide to help me. Since I couldn’t get all 251 with just Crystal I soon got the Gold, Silver, and Yellows and another Gameboy Advanced to trade into Crystal, but I was never able to figure out how to do it. I think was because I wasn’t using the Gameboys they were intended for. It was easier with the Gen 3 games. Between the anime and main games, Pokemon became my third favorite TV show with Digimon being my second and Power Rangers still and still my number 1 favorite. Muppets and Care Bears took 4th and 5th. But as much as I love the Pokemon anime, it did have some disappointments. If I could manipulate time and change the writers’ minds, here are 20 things I would change. 01. Actually show Serena kiss Ash 02. More episodes of Pokemon Chronicles 03. Not have James compete in the beauty contest episode 04. Change the way the action scenes in the Porygon episode were done. 05. Maybe downplay Jessie’s ego 06. Do an extra episode of season 9 where the gang visits Misty at her gym 07. Bring in the character Silver (Giovanni’s son) and rename him Sylvio for the final series 08. Actually solve the GS Ball mystery 09. Have Ash and catch more Pokemon than they did 10. Not have Ash give up Butterfree, Primeape, Lapras, or Pidgeot 11. Make Jinx purple from the beginning 12.
One correction is that in the porygon episode, it wasnt porygon's fault, it was Pikachu. But the franchise did want Pikachu to have the blame so they announced as porygon's fault so that way they could try to keep going with the show and the mascot wouldnt get the blame. there are still some sites out there that has the official episode out and you can see that it was Pikachu's thunderbolt that caused the strobing lights. That is actually one fact that not a lot of people know about the anime.
I grew up in that era when Pokémon became a thing past like the TV series, card trading and other merchandise. But the more I got older or probably really didn't have time for it anymore I lost interest. Now I'm slowly getting back into the franchise. By the way you forgot to mention detective Pikachu video game.
I kinda ditched the show after dawn was introduced, not because I didnt like It but because I grew up. But I do consider getting the dvds. Had pokemon yellow and chrystal for Gameboy so the childhood was pretty fun...

I hope i could do the same with my som but he is to young now to know how to play.

Agreed same here. I will be 32 next month
Growing up i was the ONLY ONE (legit the only one) in my family to play the games and would borrow my Sister's DS to trade 😂
2016 the summer of Pokemon Go was the closest thing to capturing that initial wave of Pokemon. Truly a magical era that I am thankful to have been alive for.
Dude it was everywhere in my hometown the downtown plaza was full
No matter how many years have gone by. Pokemon will ALWAYS have a
special place in my heart!
Best franchise in the world and I’m so glad I grew up with it. Always going to be a Pokémon fan.

Pokémon will always be a worldwide sensation! ✌🏻
@@SonicXisCanon It’s still a successful franchise.

I'm turning 30 this year and I have yet to outgrow Pokémon and don't think I ever will. Just like Ash, this franchise is what keeps me forever young.
Same here!! Almost 27 and I will never outgrow it
Recently got back into Pokémon & I don't regret it

Pokemon is love, Pokemon is LIFE
Currently playing Pokemon Shield on my switch while watching this, you guys ignited my childhood memories.
Thank you for this video

I may have seen some episodes on Kids WB, too.
I honestly think that those first few weeks of Pokémon go being out is the closest we will ever come to world peace.
Grew up playing Pokémon. Loved talking about it and playing stadium with my friend who lived across the street from me.

Y'know, Watchmojo is usually pretty consistent. But this was really good.

Pokemon will always have special place in my heart. Darkrai is my favorite pokemon of all time. The Freddy Krueger of pokemon, pure badass.
I really like to see Pokémon do fusion battles see Pokémon fuse together it be really cool
Anime, then games, then TCG and merchandise
Pokemon and Sailor Moon are my First Anime that I watch in my Childhood
I grew up playing the Pokémon games starting with Pokémon Emerald and watching the anime when the artstyle was amazing from gen 1 to 6 and now I've gotten back to playing the games by playing the fan made games like Pokémon Solar Light and Lunar Dark and in the moment Pokémon Opalo 😊
Ashley with the glorious hair
Fun fact: The actor who played Giovanni in the play, later voiced Pegasus from Yugioh
I got into Pokemon when it was still called Pocket Monsters because one of my neighbors had the green version game and let me borrow it for a couple of days to give it a try.
Pokemon aired on the channel ytv in canada it wasnt until around 2018 where teletoon took over streaming rights
Oh.
Down since 98 baby POKE-MON!!!
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was
The old school anime and animation will always be the best.
iMho
The kid casual holding a shadowless Charizard. Blissfully unaware how expensive the card will be in the future
It was Pikachu that made a lot of kids to go to the hospital, not Porygon. Can we please stop blaming the wrong and poor one? It's embarassing at this point. It's your favorite maskot that caused that madness.
I was going to point this out as well as I've seen the episode subbed and it's definitely Pikachu who causes the explosion
Oh. I've never seen that episode, by the way. I learned that it was a banned episode.
Pikachus past is gonna catch up with him soon
Electric soldier Porygon aired in USA that's what
My first game was Yellow and I went and got the others and another GBC so I can link trade with myself since I had no friends. Now I have all of the main series games and a husband who isn't into it as much as I am. Still gonna catch 'em all.
Charmander the stray Pokémon and bye bye butterfree episodes will always hit hard with me 🥹
0:37 i❤ Pokémon i❤ playing Pokémon go . The old Pokémon games and the new ones for the Nintendo switch
I still play the games even the Pokémon go I’m nearing old man status but young at heart
01. Actually show Serena kiss Ash
02. More episodes of Pokemon Chronicles
03. Not have James compete in the beauty contest episode
04. Change the way the action scenes in the Porygon episode were done.
05. Maybe downplay Jessie’s ego
06. Do an extra episode of season 9 where the gang visits Misty at her gym
07. Bring in the character Silver (Giovanni’s son) and rename him Sylvio for the final series
08. Actually solve the GS Ball mystery
09. Have Ash and catch more Pokemon than they did
10. Not have Ash give up Butterfree, Primeape, Lapras, or Pidgeot
11. Make Jinx purple from the beginning
12.
Goat 🔥❤

I grew up in that era when Pokémon became a thing past like the TV series, card trading and other merchandise. But the more I got older or probably really didn't have time for it anymore I lost interest. Now I'm slowly getting back into the franchise. By the way you forgot to mention detective Pikachu video game.
No anime in the world can surpass the popularity of Pokemon it is our childhood of many peoples in the world
DBZ?
I love Pokémon and always have and always will. Ratata is the greatest Pokémon in my opinion because he has tail whip.
Awesome
I'm a late beginner - playing Sapphire now, and seen the first two original episodes.
Little did the kid know he is holding a 300k+ shadowless charizard on 11:03
I kinda ditched the show after dawn was introduced, not because I didnt like It but because I grew up.
But I do consider getting the dvds.
Had pokemon yellow and chrystal for Gameboy so the childhood was pretty fun...
I got back into collecting with the Logan boom
I loved this video 🎉PM
Owning a stake in the world, yet can’t hire proper game developers to make their games or properly budget them.
