The Royals’ Future Is Looking Messy

- The British Monarchy is facing a long-dreaded question: can the Crown still feel as culturally important without Queen Elizabeth II, or is the new King Charles already doing irreparable damage to its relevance? The public grief over the Queen that poured out over the Queen’s death spoke to widespread admiration for how she did her duty, and had an almost grandmotherly relationship with the nation. It’s an understatement to say the Queen’s firstborn son, King Charles, has never enjoyed the same popularity. Prince William and his future Queen Consort Kate, are far more popular, but what could happen to the institution in the time until they succeed Charles? And will Harry and Meghan being away from the UK hurt this picture - or according to some recent suggestions, actually help things?

Calling the funeral of a British queen the most important moment the world will ever see is a pretty clueless and narrow-minded sentiment. He makes it seem like her death creates a huge power vacuum or something. It’s not even the most important thing that happened this year. If you’re sad about it, fine, but there’s no reason that people should feel obliged to feel any sort of way about her passing.
That statement was utterly ludicrous! Talk about out of touch!
@@kwoylee5617 she was a symbolic figurehead with a lot of controversy that people overlook. Regular people are living through a pandemic and a lot of economic and social strife. As a Brit, I’m growing more and more apathetic to the royal family.
It is strange that Liz is now gone. It definitely has that end of an era feeling to it, especially since she was queen for the entire 27 years of my life. But I find it very hard to care about any of the royals right now. I find myself agreeing more and more with anti-monarchists, namely why should we care?
We are going through a huge economic crisis right now. We have far more important things to worry about then whether or not Charles can stop having a victim complex.
What I find interesting is how so many Brits have such a different view of each individual family member when they're all cut from the same cloth, I mean literally the Queen squeezed out a kiddie fiddler for fucks sake and he was her favourite child whose millions in hush money she personally funded
The 'planned' economic crisis is courtesy of the W.E.F, World Economic Forum, founded by eugenicist Klaus Schwab and the No. 1 patron King Charles, photographed with Schwab and Vaclav Havel as early as 1992. All the worlds dictators have links to the UK, with most WEF members who were part of the WEF Young Leaders program, including Putin, while the North Korean Jong-Uns were UK educated.
We've always had FAR more important things to think about. It's the people that made the monarchy what it is. A living symbol of colonialism - past and ongoing.

So my point was not directed just to the British royalty.
Second, a lot European countries got rid of their Monarchs even though they were historically tied to the country, and sometimes, without the extremely gruesome violence of the first French Revolution.
The Queen absolutely intervened politically all the time. She just did it outside of publiv view (which is an idea Charles can't seem to wrap around his head). Let’s talk about other royal family drama like in Denmark. The queen stripped the prince and princess titles from her youngest son’s 4 children so they could live normal lives and have freedom from the crown. All of them are whining about it being their whole identity.
You can have normal lives with a title there are several princes with a title that work for a living and they aren't whining if your grandma decides to take your birthright away from you then you would think differently also all the children stripped are biracial coincidence I think not. Dear The Take, the Crown is not a documentary, it's fictional.
They're talking about public perceptions on the royals, and fiction can affect that.
It's because of the Crown that I learned that the Queen had 2 cousins who had been secretly sent to a psychiatric hospital and listed as dead. I actually gasped when I found this was a fact and not fiction.

Apparently after Diana's death people questioned to monarchy's importance. It was that impactful. And for a reason of course. It wasn't just about her death but also about the family's reaction who did nothing in the first few days after the announcement of her death. They needed several days to show they sorrow and sadness and address the nation. Sure they had to take care of some things but shouldn't be hard to release a statement. And when it happened everyone was happy again and welcomed the BRF as if the previous days never happened. It should have stayed in their memory so they could never forget how they treated Diana. Allow me to answer this question with another question: WHO CARES?
I wouldn't say that the monarchy is in danger, but certainly its end is more likely now than when queen Elizabeth was still alive. The institution recently was mostly based on the queen's personal prestige. Charles III is not loved by his people. His son is young and popular, but he will not be young and popular forever. However I don't think that this is the right moment to abolish the monarchy. Drastic changes can be dangerous, especially in a time of crisis. Removing now such an ancient and prestigious institution could lead to unpleasant consequences.
Just took a screenshot of this invaluable comment. Thx 😂❤
Yeah. To be honest there isn't much to be gained by getting rid of the monarchy but a lot to be lost by getting rid of it.
I understand the Caribbean wanting to cut ties (even though they will regret doing so in the near future as rising sea levels and stronger storms make having a strategic alliance with the UK and Canada ever more important.
As for the UK, the monarchy has done an ok job at being mildly progressive for the most part. Granted there are a lot of bad apples in the family, but in general they have been consistent in helping the older folks in Britain get used to social change. It might not seem like a lot to go dancing with an African president these days, but in the 1950s that was a huge deal that solidified amongst the elites of the UK that a new age was dawning. Likewise knighting Elton John in 1998 at a time when LGBT teenagers were forced to remain in the closet at British schools was a pretty big deal. Losing this would have made it easier for reactionary forces to gain power in the UK. (My argument here is that the Royal Family helps clamp down reactionary forces and reinforces a general idea of social progress in British society).
Let's also consider the soft power the Royal Family has in promoting the UK diplomatically. As brand ambassadors, the Royal Family is a huge asset that the UK can and often does use to help make key deals. Granted that Charles will have a tougher time with this, but William and Kate are pretty well liked and will probably keep this up to some extent.
They've been scaling it back, and both Charles and William seem to be committed to that. This is what the "She's a colonialist, abolish the monarchy!" edgelords don't get. This is a process. It will take a couple generations. There has been a monarchy for over a thousand years. I know lots of people want a big, dramatic event where everyone's ousted from Palaces, and world leaders swarm the British Museum to reclaim artifacts. But sorry, it's not effective nor realistic.

I have never followed the royal family on the media, but I did tune in after Queen Elizabeth's death.
After doing so, I have to say that these are not people whose behavior I find inspiring or would want to emulate.
Great Britain presents itself as a nation of peace and a representative of high culture; however, the members of its first family don't behave in peaceful and cultured ways. They embarrass, ignore, exclude, humiliate, cold-shoulder, and spite each other. It appears that they have not been exposed to more civilized, effective ways of communicating or finding solutions to interpersonal problems.
It also seems that these behaviors and problems have an intergenerational aspect.
I am guessing that, if this family left its royal regalia at home, went to a counseling center, and presented itself as an ordinary family, the intake counselors would recommend treatment.
The same counselors and mediators who were able to bring forth forgiveness in the conflict between the families living in Irish Republic and Northern Ireland might be able to create improved communication and forgiveness in this fractured family as well.
I wish that the family could get help along this line. It is painful to watch the family members behaving in ways that only perpetuate their suffering. It would be wonderful to see the family maturing to the point where it could model the behaviors enjoyed by healthy, emotionally productive families. It is said that, As the family goes, so goes the nation.
Britain is never going to get rid of the monarchy. The Tory party is never going to call for that referendum especially not after what happened last they tried something like that. As for the Labour Party there never going to make that call either because there will always be more important things to be doing. So that’s kind of it really so the monarchy is here to stay.
As for the union it’s self that’s not going anywhere. London would have to allow a vote and there just never going to do that. Even if they did though I doubt they would leave, a lot of people still like the union.

The monarchy, like all monarchies, need to be dissolved. It's a waste of money and anti democratic to have these people still around
Practically all governments are corrupt, not just monarchies. This is not a monarchy problem, it is a people problem. That’s why even democratic republican governments like the US give citizens the illusion of choice by having presidential elections, but only from 2 parties, and more often than not, the candidates are a choice for the lesser of 2 evils. I hope people wake up and try to fix problems in their own country instead of focusing on others while people continue to suffer.

They got divorced 26 years ago, he married Camilla 17 years ago, and as the world moved forward, many people also chose to forgive. I respect that you may not feel that way, but I know for myself that I can empathize with the other side
@@lunakitten._.4871 she slept with men to get back at him
I often contemplate that Queen Elizabeth's Husband was a narcissist, and perhaps King Charles is one also. It seems to me that King Charles is contemplating how to take revenge on anyone who caused him strife the last 60 years. It is a sad situation and too close to situations in politics, and leadership, everywhere in the world.
1:29 that cuttoff😂
As a non-Brit, I don't care for the Royal Family, & just ignore news about them.
I hope the Monarchy is abolished. This is no real need for monarchy in these modern times and collecting taxes from people who are already starving
Yes, but why people only talk about the British monarchy?
@@nath_s4069 bc that’s what’s most known. However other monarchies aren’t any better
@@markigirl2757 thats what i am saying i mean, all of them have done horrible things, spain was the worst in latin america, and yet everybody seen to have forget that.
@@nath_s4069 I get what you are saying but Spain hasn't been a "superpower" nation in a VERY long time. That's why they aren't really mentioned in conversations about prosperous nations nowadays, they have been in a crisis since 2008 (or even before). They have no modern colonies, Britain still does. That's why they are always mentioned in terms of imperialism. And the monarchy is a social structure that holds imperialistic values. Besides Great Britain was arguably the BIGGEST "colonizers" so yeah, the attention is on them. Besides the media mainly shoves their monarchy down our throats b/c they are still a cultural induing superpower unfortunately. And my issue with the Monarchy in general (not just in Britain) but the people pay taxes so that these royals can buy their outfits & jet around the world. Everyone knows that we are approaching/are in a recession (depending on where you are in the world), so think about not getting paid enough and your paycheck already takes insurance, state tax, city tax, and tax FOR THE MONARCHY FAMILY. The people in England a having problems heating OUR HOMES and yet we have to pay for King Charles' coronation and parties. My family in Spain can barely afford their rent and yet they have to pay for their King & Queen expenses while in a Crisis. But, like I said Spain isn't as publicized as England so no one outside of Spain cares what's going on there.
When the new season of The Crown releases this December, which will show Diana's death, it will definitely play a part.
As an American I love seeing this. Don't like Kings much.
Like many Brits have said, they don’t care what you like. It has nothing to do with you and your opinion on the subject is irrelevant.
The Queen was Aaron Burr: "Talk less. Smile more. Don't let them know what you're against or what you're for."
imagine thinking the monarchy should still exist in 2022
Most British people aren't really keen on republicanism.
Monarchy used to have purpose. To rule. And there were some Kings and Queens who were actually damn good at it, all over the world. The problem is of course the hereditary nature of Monarchy. It's total luck and the truly terrible Kings and Queens could (and did) cause great suffering. It's not a stable system and rule by majority is a lot more fair, well ideally. The instability of the various Monarchs only increased as inbreeding reared It's ugly head.
Monarchy is now a symbol, but the Commonwealth (ironic name given all the theft by England) has a choice. What kind of symbol do we want? What kind of traditions are we supporting? In what we hope to be a better era, we must ask ourselves these questions.
Theft you only see theft on a black and white reasoning. GB heritage has been a rather positive asset for the Commonwealth Nations.
Their great purpose is to avoid a lunatic becoming Head of State and Government, politicians are bound to their base, there are most advantages since the UK has been a stable country during the recent centuries while there have been dictatorships and coups everywhere in the world, Europe included.
so because the Monster High movie just came out, I was wondering if The Take will ever cover the Extranormal Institute trope, basically other than a magic school(The Worst Witch, Harry Potter, &The Magicians tv series), there's also monster themed schools(whether animated like Monsters University, The Owl House, Super Monsters, or an all Vampire academy) &superhero themed school (like in the X-Men franchise)
Legacies!
The did and they didn't Take too kindly to one Harry Potter.
A Monster High fan!
Okay, I'm sick of the people in the comment section saying "He's just lost his mother, he hasn't had a chance to grieve" as an excuse for the pen incidents. He is a grown a** man who has waited his ENTIRE life for the death of his mother to be what he was literally born to do. If you finally reach the long awaited peak of your existence and you choose to act like a brat, that shows the lack of humility in your character. How people behave when they have everything, despite the circumstances, shows what kind of person they really are. People need to stop trying to make light of his immature antics.
They need to disappear
Loool why did I expect yall to talk about and even acknowledge their spearheading of colonialism and slavery around the world? This is such a ridiculous take
Whatever love means
I wish they'd get real jobs.
To be fair they own alot of businesses i think it would be just fine to evict them and send them to a countryside villa.
Show biz is a job. It's like Renaissance fair but all day every day for them. Gotta promote em British brands & generate that revenue.
It is kinda sad to watch then Crown Prince, Prince of Wales, Prince Charles' recorded voice and video at the Buckingham palace tour thing some years ago.
The late Queen playing the Bond girl for the Olympics opening or a salesperson for the beloved Paddington bear or the marmalade sauce or jam or whatever it is?
Whether you love or hate them, the family definitely puts on a delicate image that is the 🇬🇧 to the world
The monarchy should have ended with the recent Queen of England. At this point, it’s just a figurehead. Their is no need for it.
This is a perfectly good opportunity to abolish the monarchy and nobility in England
Being here in Britain. It’s not the same without the Queen, the royals lost their best asset. 😐
But the monarchy remains popular, they’re going nowhere. I find it funny all the people that think they’ll be abolished. I can’t see it happening in my lifetime and I’m young. The public are way too addicted to the pageantry and royal gossip, royal fashion, royal babies, royal weddings.
They're just focusing on the liabilities, there is a great deal of awesome advantages of the British-Commonwealth Constitutional Monarchy and the King much more of a great public servant than most people outside the Commonwealth are aware of.
The Royals have always been MESSY LOL
God bless and peaceful rest your Magesty
Honestly the monarchy is over. It should be over.
People's positive feelings towards the royals strikes me as another parasocial relationship, but one fueled by national media and a lifetime of familiarity, rather than a single RUclips channel and the relatively short relevancy of an influencer.
Their positively to it comes off very out of touch and fucking weird I’ll forever judge people that literally worship figureheads like it’s the coming of Jesus or some bullshit. Borderline culty lol
Yep, a 1200 year parasocial relationship lol
Isn’t that the entire point? That people feel connected to the monarch even he/she doesn’t know them
As an African American, I don't condone the racist and colonial past that the British Monarchy upheld, but I still had deep respect for Queen Elizabeth as someone who was thrust into the role, adapted, and maintained such stability and structure through delicate neutrality for many years. That isn't easy to do, and I still feel sick I never got to visit the UK while she was alive. It feels that the UK is vastly different without her. I didn't realize how much I respected her until I saw the Paddington Bear and Queen Elizabeth II's little funny interaction in this video. I actually started to tear up. However, this doesn't mean that the Royal Family is excused from their deeds, and there still needs to be some changes.
I wish Anne could be Queen, tbh. She's like her mum.
YESSSS!!!!!!!!!
Apparently she is a snob and treats other people horribly.
I think this is the first time I heard the phrase ‘queen consort’, and somehow I really appreciate it
Well yeah because for the previous 69 years it's was a Queen who ruled and her husband was a Prince.
I think you underestimate Charles popularity with the youth. He’s always been outspoken about the environment and he is much more green than our current PM who has asked him not to attend the climate summit in Egypt
asking 4 a green army is a funny idea unless he is funding it himself
History History
All these people who have been worshiping the Queen and the whole monarch have no idea
where it all began
Could u please make a video about sexual revolution in 1960s and what made America change in "attitude" towards sex from taboo to normalised premarital culture?
They've made a man the Queen, what did they expect?
we have to take them down, it's time for the symbolic monarchy to end
Who is we? Are you seriously trying to say that random RUclips people need to take down a country’s 1000+ year government? Do you truly understand what that means and how millions will suffer economically around the world, not to mention the possible lives that will be lost in the process?
I think Charles should Abdicate, what’s the harm, it’s not the 1930’s anymore. William & Kate are far better suited and they’ll have a modern approach, and Charles & Camilla can retire happily
Really great video and explanation of why Queen Elizabeth was so good as a queen.
Harry should say what he thinks in his book. I doubt he said anything bad about his grandmother, and what is there to lose now? He's being turfed out of the family no matter what. Kate is indeed a shrew, just like in Shakespeare, and she can't tolerate sharing her little stage with anybody. Don't know about Will but he doesn't look too friendly either. Shame on all of those remaining in England as they put their noses in the air about *some* close members of their family.
… making the monarch too small is an issue that Japan is currently going through… hope they keep that in mind as they go forward…
I wish Anne could be Queen. ❤
Prince William has no shame by having an affair with his mistress in public. How long must Kate be subjected to this kind of behavior?
The fact that the Queen was still in the job of being "Head of State" as a 96-year-old on death's door makes a mockery of the institution.
I understand Charles' frustration. He had to wait really long to become a king whereas his mother was a queen at the age of 21. But anger would do him more damage than good.
And rest of the royals???? If they don't make some big transformation in the monarchy, then in next few years people would be yawning while watching them. They've got to do something to stay relevant.
As always, I recommend Shaun's video "Abolish the Monarchy! - A Response to CGP Grey", as a less sentimental analysis of the Queen and the English monarchy as a whole, at least in terms of economics.
Long live the Crown! (that is to say, the tv show) Can't wait for PR nightmare!
Charles has just lost his mother, so he's entitled to some grief-related anger. Not a big fan of him, but I see why he's lashing out. Sad that it's the help that gets the worst of it.
No he’s not as the public figure the king whose dead mother was a proud nazi and modern colonizer whose decisions kept the poor poor and them wealthy . The royals are humans yeah that doesn’t mean you have to pretend they don’t have the ability to grieve without insulting those you are actively harming
make the music louder, I can still hear the video on the background
Why is the take talking about the royal family? Isnt it about tv shows and movies?
The Take has always done videos on cultural events/phenomenons/people.
Because the 'royal' family is a sh!t show....that counts right? Cheating charles calling himself cowmilla's tampon, his 2 kids that hate him. He executed his wife to he can re-marry. The queen had a pedo son, and his wife was into some things....then the whole harry and meg cr@p....
good point tho
@@babsybrrrnz yup this isn't all that out of the ordinary
Yes, but they've done entire videos about Meghan Markle controversies. When not doing non-pop culture, their topics tend to be about The Royals. Or what's happening on TikTok
Had they made Andrew accept accountability & jail time for his actions & spoke out about the racism against an unborn child & a woman they who maybe have been more tolerable to deal with. But the British media, firm & Brits want us to hate Harry for doing the same thing his beautiful mother had to do after they thru her under a bus.
Oh how history repeats itself until something changes.
Hopefully it’s the monarch being turned into a subscription service for those who want to continue to bow to a flawed system & humans that are no better than any of us.
at 13.58 what is the piece of music? can yall at the take answer please
Seasons Adrián Berenguer
Abolish the monarchy.
more vids about this plz as it develops
That's because CAMILLA DAUGHTER is KING CHARLES DAUGHTER and he had told PRINCESS DIANA he didn't want PRINCE HARRY, he wanted a DAUGHTER, and HIS SIDEPEACE CAMILLA gave him the DAUGHTER HE SO BADLY WANTED, and PRINCE WILLIAM ACCEPTS HIS HALF SISTER.
agreed
You must not be on Twitter or TikTok. There was mass celebrations of QEII's death among the Irish, Welch, Scott's world indigenous and African diaspora. But the people of England and traditionalists really loved her. As am American, I don't get the idea of royalty. But I hope the people of England get what they want. Charles doesn't seem to be suited for public life.
this whole take is so weirdly pro-Monarchism. Like "Elizabeth understood her role was to not stand out but to embody something bigger than herself" Tf? She was a colonial benefactor of centuries of bloodshed and theft. Her entire empire was built on stolen wealth and she openly supported colonialism and the violent subjugation of the Crown's subjects in the early years of her life and reign. There's no "bigger" thing to embody other than the role of completely unjustifiable oppression. The brave UKers protesting her funeral were right. This is gross. It's 2022. The divine right of kings is evil and all of their stolen wealth should be returned to The People and the countries stolen from - namely, the estate and its wealth.
I wish that people who felt this strongly about foreign UK imperialism would also feel strongly about ending the purposefully hidden in plain sight American imperialism that currently still is ongoing. It’s very easy to pass judgement on the history of other countries, and hopefully more of us Americans will wake up and realize that this narrative is being amplified in the US right now in part to cause destabilization so that our government and companies will reap economic benefit. It wouldn’t be the first time we were involved in toppling foreign country’s governments and monarchies: just look at what happened to the Hawaiian monarchy.
The show made he seem more intelligent and empathetic than he actually is. His successor doesn’t seem to be better.
Her name isn't Kate; it's CATHERINE.
Yah we will just stick to Kate thanks
Ideally they'd be abolished.
