- SO HELL DOES FREEZE OVER!
I managed to catch the De-Icing & Anti-Icing procedure on my ride home with Finnair.
I think this is Type III, which is orange in colour (dye) and is actually used for De-Icing.
This type is normally applied just before departure or to aircraft with a short Holdover (HOT) Point to maximise effectiveness ~ hence the pad being located near to the runway entry point. The due colours are to identify type and to also give the operator a complete look at the surface to make sure they don’t ‘missa bit’. They were also applying Type IV (green) which is thicker in viscosity and holds for longer
There are a few types of operational rigs, but in this set-up, the operator in the upper cab also controls the vehicle below. So flight surfaces, wings, leading edge slats etc all being coated here. Depending on severity of ice build-up, the fuselage will also get a coating. But in our case, wings and empennage.
As speed builds to around 80 knots the fluid starts to break down but is still active during the climb-out.
Check-out the livestream we put out showing the full exterior operations and in larger jets.
🥶HEL did freeze over, but proof it can be De-Iced!! 🥶
Very cool video.....I've never been on a de-iced flight! Lucky you 👍
You picked the best seat as usual Jerry!
That engine sound is powerful and soothing all at once.
Like something out of War of the Worlds .The Martians and their heat rays 😂. Fantastic sound from the engines
Just come back from Finland (saariseslka) and the Captain said he was going to High rev the engines prior to takeoff due to the cold/ice formations in the engine.
It was cool 😎
Thanks Jerry and Gilly that was fab⛄️
That has to be one of the coolest jobs to have...de-icing planes!!! Terrific footage, Jerry!
yea but you have clear hundreds of plane a day for 3 months at least.
What is the mixture
You'd be so cold by the end of the day though brrrrr @@thevinceberry
When HEL 🥶 froze over
Nice one Jerry 👍
Thank you Jerry and Gilly
Great shots we rarely get to see the unnoticed and more run of the mill ops, but you shine that light brightly 😊
Great footage, thank you. Thank you for the great show as well. Really enjoyed it.
Yes, you know it's necessary for your safety and to ensure the plane will actually take off, and maybe I'm just a nervous flyer, but I've always found having my plane deiced to be a somewhat unnerving experience.
Great video. So glad you got it and shared it with us. Thanks, Jerry and Gilly.
Where i stay at in Louisiana i hey to hear the B-52's take off and land but my favorite part is when they touch and goes and you hear them big ass engines shut down then ramp back up gets me all tingly on the inside 😆
Its such an honour and pleasure to see these videos and fabtastic camera work too in them and throughout merry christmas to you
Great footage, thanks. A familiar scene in my cold climate, but extra cool under cover of darkness.
I’ve been looking forward to this 🙂
awesome, thanks Gilly and Jerry
Great shot and amazing takeoff!
I’m doing ATPLs and this video is genuinely perfect for Ops where de-icing/anti-icing and HOTs appear in a lot of the questions.
Very good for understanding the concept and even just seeing it in action imo.
I hate auto-focus fails... I feel your pain, Jerry! ;-)
Iceing ❤🥶on the side of the runway taxi 🚕 without ice 🧊 is Very dangerous 😳 Jerry brilliant views great shot jerry

HEY JERRY SURPRISED YOU N GILLY NOT IN BIRMINGHAM DURING STORM PIA
I know it’s not but the footage looks so much like a flight simulator. 😆
