- Welcome back! This week, we are headed to the Scottish east coast to catch a beautiful sunrise at the beach and explore some more romantic historical ruins.
Sit back and relax with the sounds of the seashore and the early morning sun glinting on the water.
I've never painted anything from the seashore, so let's see what I can find to inspire me...

The sunrise was gorgeous, and the music Willie chose to play during that time was hauntingly beautiful.
What a sunrise. Willie’s music added a layer of artistic expression that made it very special. On to the next episodes.
That was just wonderful. Again, I enjoyed every part of it. You've created a perfect balance with your videos. I love the walk and the gorgeous scenery, I really enjoy the history lesson, watching Jack is so much fun (he's so well behaved!), stopping for coffee and seeing what the local area has to offer, and watching you create your beautiful artwork. It's all such a treat for a time when I can't do any of that myself. Thank you so much for taking us along and showing us the inspiration behind your art. I love it! :-D

Sorry caught this one late 😔 What an amazing walk it's my hope that one day I will get to Ruby Bay I've always wanted to go there and am hoping I can get there this summer 😁. Your nature paintings are beautiful and remind me of old botanical books with prints of hand painted plants and flowers , the new books just have photos which by comparison are soulless, there's just something special about thumbing through a book with beautiful illustrations. I love old books and can spend hours in old second hand book shops . Your seaweed painting is stunning.

As a child I used to walk the beaches by Seaside and Pt. Pleasant ,N.J., in the
mornings and look at the sea rack, l those tumbles of wood, plants and shells and animal skeletons.
No ancient fortresses, just the sands dunes beach grass and the sight and sounds of the Gulls and the breezy sea air.
Your walk and the painting was reminiscent of those days.

My favourite stretch of the Coastal Path - the beaches at Ardross are great for seaglass and crinoid fossils. And I love your painting of the seaweed ❤️

I have only seen dried seaweed in a package, so I had no idea it was so beautiful and unusual looking. Sarah, I love that we get to see where you find your inspiration. Scotland is a beautiful country!

I haven't seen enough of Scotland, over two trips there, but Dunnottar Castle is still haunting me! Bought Traffic Jam and read some laugh-out-loud silly postcards at a souvenir shop at John O'Groats! ---Loved the music with this visit.---Amazing artistic talent.

It is so amazing how many ruins you have in Skotland. I love it. And the way you make your painting, so it lokks like the plant is lying on tha papir. I want to press the air out of the bubbles
Haha that is a great compliment thank you! I love all the old ruins - there were once around 4000 castles in Scotland, although they aren’t all still standing. Sarah x
Fife is so lovely. Locally we have a suburban town by the same name. It’s largely known for strip malls & used car lots. None of the charm of the original. As you walked along the shoreline, I felt like I was there for a moment. Completely charming. Thank you. 💕♥️💕

Sarah I loved the walk I have seen those beaches before ……. But they are usually during “low” tide. How you get the seaweed to look wet is amazing.

I've painted "lady Annstruthers bathing tower" & walked along that coastal path so often
My parents lived in Beautiful Elie so long & that was where we went. Dad's now passed & Mums in an Elie care home but
It's Such an incredible area to create art: as the Scottish Colourists knew.
Check out the nearby
Pittenweem arts Festival everyone.
It's also a haven for Artists.
The whole coastline offers such
"BIG skies" - as a Londoner friend of Mums said.
The skies ard just so so inspiring for Artists- as are the seas& contrasting volcanic dark rocks.
A beautiful hidden gem for many UK people: is the
" East Neuk of Fife". I felt so homesick watching this.

I always like to look up your walks on the Ordnance Survey Maps and also see if there are any geocaches along the way. A lovely walk and if I was to go there would be 6 geocaches to find as well! So lucky with the weather too!
That’s a great idea! I might start putting maps in my videos so you can see where I am, but never tried geo-cacheing! I think I’m too busy looking at things to photograph 😂
It was strange hearing you mention Newark Castle, there is a Newark Castle in Port Glasgow, right beside the River Clyde, (and Ferguson's shipyard), there is a good bit of it standing, and you can go inside for a small price, there is a great hall with a massive fireplace, and a bedroom where you can still see paint on the wooden rafters, you can also climb a windey set of steps leading to the parapet, where you get amazing views of the clyde.

We absolutely love the East Neuk and we're lucky to have a wee family owned caravan in Crail so visit the area frequently.
St. Monans is a regular spot during our visits, especially to seek out some seaglass in a couple of little spots.
Loving your videos and artwork. Willie is making me jealous with his drone work (I just got one and I'm desperate to take it up around Fife!)

It’s a lovely place for a holiday Maureen - the coastal villages do get very popular in the summer though, so we like visiting at this time of year when it’s quieter 😊 Sarah x

Your study of seaweed is fascinating to me-- seaweed over the sunrise or over the ruins or castle? I am guessing (bc I am from the US) that maybe you have drawn those before and the seaweed might have been more interesting today to you. The painting is very well done, I surprised myself that I found I like it. Thank you again.

I think I’m drawn to things like mushrooms and seaweed, as they can easily be overlooked - they have such a hidden beauty that people often walk past. My painting style also suits these kind of small, detailed subjects. Maybe someday I’ll try a bigger subject! Sarah x

Are you and Willie familiar with the Scottish Mudlarks - Nicole and Craig? They are You Tubers who live in Cupar and do beach combing videos in some of the same places you walked in today's video.

Jack is usually a very good boy (although he does get very over excited at the beach…) The Scottish Mudlarks are great - I know they’ve done a few videos about the Fife Coastal route that I was walking part of. They can’t have a crazy spaniel with them though…he doesn’t make it easy to beachcomb, as he thinks everything you pick up is something for him to play with 😂🤦♀️ Sarah x

That’s such a good idea! I’m toying with the idea of putting in a map to each video to show where I am - maybe next time…This was about 40 minutes drive from where we live, so not too far at all. Soon I will be going a bit further afield though. So glad you liked this video 😊 Sarah x

Yes! They hunted for garnets at Ruby Bay (that’s how it got the name). I’ve never found any there - although I don’t think they were hampered by a very excitable dog! 😅

Hi Lydia! Yes, I hope so 😊 I haven’t had the time to paint much this year yet, because of the move and doing work on our outbuilding, but I’m sure I have enough to make a calendar again. Look out for it around October time 😊
Here in Ohio, it is bitterly cold and we have 28 inches of snow. Do you get snow? Tomorrow is my 72nd birthday... wish i were there.
