There's a special place in Hell for people who abuse charitable sites. And yet I feel bad for asking for help for myself because my fridge has been broken for 2 months and my landlord refuses to fix it.
Sue your landlord. They are responsible for keeping your domicile in working order, in return for rent paid. Ez win.
@Zachary Andrews I've e-mailed local housing and hopefully they can at least help mediate things. And I say landlord, but my building is run by a company owned by a larger, faceless corporation, so I'm not sure how hard I want to poke this bear.
I'm also pretty sure this is just their way of trying to get low-income tenants to move out so they can turn over apartments to people with more money; I've been here 12 years and I've had more work orders "get lost" in the past 2 years than the previous 10 combined.

My father died suddenly last month. I started a gofundme simply asking for $4200 funeral expenses as he had no insurance. I’ve raised $1005 so far but that was family friends. I tried reaching out on social media and couldn’t get any help. Right now I owe the funeral home 3 grand and have to figure out how to come up with it while providing for my family. People like this hurts the real people who need help!

My step sister set up a go fund me to get people to help her pay for a house. No she wasn't homeless or lose her house in a disaster. She just wanted to move out of her apartment. After her and her partner received a lot of backlash she shut it down. Her excuse? She thought you could set up a go fund me for anything. Not a scam but might as well be close to one.
I'd rather give money to that than the guy who did a gofundme because he wanted a sandwich. At least in his case he donated some of it, but it's stupid that people get critical backlash for "hey I want to pay for xyz" but if you bring up the potato salad sandwich guy then people act like you're a humorless monster.

He just wanted to try making potato salad for the first time, but was worried he'd be wasting money/food if he just went for it. He used Kickstarter because it wasnt a charity thing. It got very popular because people found it so absurd and he seemed sweet.
I know he said with the tons of extra money he was going to donate food. However, I also heard he claimed that a cookbook was going to be made and sent to backers, but to my knowledge that did not come to pass.
Anyway, the point is: You can do your best to donate to whomever seems most in need or what seems like a good cause, but you can never truly know how the money will be spent once you give it.
Probably gonna get hate for this but I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. Her excuse is absolutely valid and it's not even close to being a scam. It's not like anybody's taxes were going to her getting a house. If you don't want to offer some help for someone buying a house, you don't have to. Honestly, I don't think anyone should get backlash about a GoFundMe unless they were dishonest. It's like that time the 17 year old girl set one up to buy her first car and for some reason, a bunch of people thought it was okay to harass a child.

tbh, i don't think it's fair to judge johnny...if you were literally living under a bridge and somebody offered you $25,000 just to go along with a scam, you'd probably do it. and they knew he would because he was desperate.

Let's get over the fact that he was a vet, he is now a drug addict. They will do anything to get drugs and he proved it when they gave him a small amount of money. I;m more surprised that he didn't OD.
My house burned down and we had just moved in so no renters insurance. Legit lost everything I had and was homeless. Managed to get 10k from my community through go fund me. Makes me sick that people exploit this but I’ll be forever grateful for those who donated

By that logic, why don't you get rid of the device you're communicating on that was created from the deaths of third world children who don't even have access to the internet to plea for their lives online? By your own logic, GoFundMe itself is a circle jerk of first world inhabitants who think medical procedures and homelessness are the chief concerns when the people of the country that made your phones are more concerned about keeping people from being sold into literal slavery or being worked to death for the equivalent of a couple USD.
TLDR, there always SOMETHING out there that is worse than whatever you think is the "worst", because literally everyone with access to this site is inherently privileged over the slave labor that our countries exploit to create the networks we are utilizing. So to make come call to moral authority is objectively useless when you are by default at the top. You're literally in the top 1% of global wealth, while sneering down at the other 99%. Hope that feels good.
Maybe before you pay for Becky to get that medical procedure that will EXTEND her life, why don't you take that money, and hand it to a child in Malaysia, or Ukraine, or Afghanistan, who doesn't even have a ROOF to sleep under and their alarm clocks are air raid sirens?

I remember getting annoyed with all the updates she posted saying her campaign was failing after she had raised tens of thousands of dollars so I stopped paying attention to it. I also don't use tiktok so I had no idea people exposed her scam on there

I was very lucky that my gofundme for vetcare for two animals that were rescued from an abusive situation was successful. All of their vet bills were covered. Poor kitty ended up having to have an eye removed, but me and my neighbor found the best homes for both her and the little dog who had cuts so deep on her neck from her collar.. it was horrific. The owner and my moms friends slandered me left and right, but I have zero regrets.
I had leukemia as a child and no one donated to mine. Made maybe 40 dollars

Hate to have a pity party or anything but since you asked; I am now in remission, I had it decently young and it lasted 4 years. Which is a lot longer than most. It definitely did a number on me that still affects me to this day and I saw and went through a lot of sad stuff.
And yes, it absolutely destroyed my family financially and while the money would have been great help… We’re all here and living and I try my best to stay hopeful 👍

As someone from New Jersey, you were definitely onto something by calling us all psychopaths.
I find it funny how so many channels covered this around the same time. Definitely not plagerism, as the uploading and rendering required would put making the videoes in around the same timeframe.
It is just interesting how channels become interested in the same things, or follow similar stories, then cover it in thier own way.

Lmao I knew a girl in college who got a DWI and used gofundme to pay for her lawyer. Few months later she had a new dog that was the same price as her gofundme total. Turned out her parents paid for her lawyer and admitted to buying the dog with the gofundme money

I feel bad for all of the people but the dog go fund me makes me absolutely livid.. My face is hot thinking of that poor innocent doggo. I hope he was adopted into a wonderful family that can love him like he deserves to be loved. Dogs (and sometimes cats) are the only thing that loves you more than you love yourself. He did not deserve that.. No pets deserve that.
Man when I got frostbite in all ten of my toes and had to have them amputated, a nurse or whatever her job was came to see me. And she asked if I had insurance and if I was employed. I told her I didnt have insurance and I worked construction and got paid under the table. She gave me a stern look and said "So you don't have a job?" And gave me a nod. And I was all "Yes mam you're correct im unemployed." She smiled "Okay im going to have to get you set up with welcare." Id just like to thank that nurse and thank the taxpayers of Kentucky for spotting me $244,000, really did me a solid that day.
Edit: Just felt I should add I was 24yo and February 4th was not only my birthday but the date of my operation to amputate all my toes so this was almost exactly 3 years ago.
