And I say landlord, but my building is run by a company owned by a larger, faceless corporation, so I'm not sure how hard I want to poke this bear. I'm also pretty sure this is just their way of trying to get low-income tenants to move out so they can turn over apartments to people with more money; I've been here 12 years and I've had more work orders "get lost" in the past 2 years than the previous 10 combined.
My father died suddenly last month. I started a gofundme simply asking for $4200 funeral expenses as he had no insurance. I’ve raised $1005 so far but that was family friends. I tried reaching out on social media and couldn’t get any help. Right now I owe the funeral home 3 grand and have to figure out how to come up with it while providing for my family. People like this hurts the real people who need help!

My step sister set up a go fund me to get people to help her pay for a house. No she wasn't homeless or lose her house in a disaster. She just wanted to move out of her apartment. After her and her partner received a lot of backlash she shut it down. Her excuse? She thought you could set up a go fund me for anything. Not a scam but might as well be close to one.
I'd rather give money to that than the guy who did a gofundme because he wanted a sandwich. At least in his case he donated some of it, but it's stupid that people get critical backlash for "hey I want to pay for xyz" but if you bring up the potato salad sandwich guy then people act like you're a humorless monster.

He used Kickstarter because it wasnt a charity thing. It got very popular because people found it so absurd and he seemed sweet. I know he said with the tons of extra money he was going to donate food. However, I also heard he claimed that a cookbook was going to be made and sent to backers, but to my knowledge that did not come to pass. Anyway, the point is: You can do your best to donate to whomever seems most in need or what seems like a good cause, but you can never truly know how the money will be spent once you give it.

It's not like anybody's taxes were going to her getting a house. If you don't want to offer some help for someone buying a house, you don't have to. Man when I got frostbite in all ten of my toes and had to have them amputated, a nurse or whatever her job was came to see me. And she asked if I had insurance and if I was employed. I told her I didnt have insurance and I worked construction and got paid under the table. She gave me a stern look and said "So you don't have a job?" And gave me a nod. And I was all "Yes mam you're correct im unemployed." She smiled "Okay im going to have to get you set up with welcare." Id just like to thank that nurse and thank the taxpayers of Kentucky for spotting me $244,000, really did me a solid that day. Edit: Just felt I should add I was 24yo and February 4th was not only my birthday but the date of my operation to amputate all my toes so this was almost exactly 3 years ago.

I was very lucky that my gofundme for vetcare for two animals that were rescued from an abusive situation was successful. All of their vet bills were covered. Poor kitty ended up having to have an eye removed, but me and my neighbor found the best homes for both her and the little dog who had cuts so deep on her neck from her collar.. it was horrific. The owner and my moms friends slandered me left and right, but I have zero regrets.

When I get sick or injured, I go to the hospital where the doctors treat me. They are paid continuously from my taxes. If I get some expensive medicine or a new tooth filling - the extra cost is in the order of units of euros (3-15). This is how it works in a poor post-Soviet country. Why doesn't the rich and powerful USA have it that way? Does it not care about its people?

Ngl, I actually have a lot of respect for people setting up GoFundMe pages for things they just need help for but aren't medical emergencies and they're completely honest. I once considered making one for 36 dollars: a new watch (20 bucks), a (James Brown CD) (15 bucks) and a taco (1 dollar)

@@bongman420 her autism might be preventing her from being able to work. i'm not saying it is, but it could possibly make it difficult to find a suitable and safe work environment, like finding a company/employer that's willing to provide a stable job. also, the abuse from her mother is likely a huge factor that's negatively affecting and impeding many aspects of her life in one way or another, i.e.; ability to keep a job for an extended period, having reliable transportation, or even being allowed to leave the house at all, etc etc.
