Hello Dominic, I use this video to thank you and the guys from FD for the great inspiration and the high quality product (Gen 1 😊)! Learning pumping, cruising and flying with smaller boards and foils has never been sooo play- and joyful. Even on a lake, far away from clean waves and the ocean the FD opens new horizons …
Hi Dom, your back on the ultra, is that your pick fuse now for the Spitfire? I’ve just bought the 1100 and trying to work out which fuse is best for bay slop. I usually use the crazy short standard
I use the ultrashort for pretty much everything when at all possible. The reason is that with all the testing and demos that I do I change gear so often that it helps to have a few constants in my setup. Having said that, the crazy short is my preference for doing quick snappy turns on small waves, but for everything else I prefer a bit more length
In this video I was using a custom prone DW board design: 5’ x 19” x 55ltrs. The foil was the spitfire 960 but I wish i had been on the 900 as that would have been the best size for those conditions. I weigh 82kg
How far is the motor down the mast? 20cm? This is the info everyone is looking for when ordering and not a lot of info on help deciding for which disciplines. Thanks!
It’s 20cm in this clip. The lengths stated for each motor are taken from the middle of the motor pod to the mast plate. The assist Max adds 5cm to the distance from the board to the motor pod, so a 25cm motor with the Max is 30cm from the board, and a 25cm motor is 28cm from the board. Generally speaking the 15cm is for experts because it’s harder to keep the motor in the water when motoring, but the pod hardly ever dips into the water, the 25cm is for beginners or if you have really choppy water because it’s much easier to keep the motor in the water when motoring, but the pod often dips into the water, and the 20cm is a great all rounder - IMO the best of both worlds. The extra distance from the max or slim boxes doesn’t seem to matter, there are no negatives to performance that I have detected from the extra distance, it just prevents you from breaching as much.
@@user-dn7sg4cf1h while it’s possible to use it for surfing and downwinding it’s not as good as with the motor pod in the assist position so the pod is out of the water the majority of the time. If you’re planning on mostly efoiling with the occasional bit of surfing or downwinding then the efoil position is fine, but off you’re doing mostly surfing or downwinding then the assist position is best. The 25cm length would be a good choice if you’re worried as it makes life easier and TBH the pod dipping into the water doesn’t have too bad of an effect unless you are at a very high still level and notice every tiny little difference in your setup
@@dominichoskyns9091 Thanks Dominic, appreciate your responses. The issue for me is lake police and locals that like to police others, No electric propulsion is allowed on the lakes so hiding the propeller as much as possible, and limiting the noise is paramount. Foil drive ninja😇
Foil Drive has plans to produce travel batteries for both the Assist Max & Slim. They are still under development but we hope to have them available at some point next year. The maximum limit for batteries in most airlines is 160Wh. Unfortunately the smallest battery for the Assist Slim is 166Wh, BUT, did you know that some airlines have a max limit of 300Wh for carry on batteries, so it’s worth checking if any airlines that you use have this higher limit.
@@dominichoskyns9091 One thing that would be great is to work with dealers on a battery rental program so customers can travel with their own Foildrive setups and then rent batteries from dealers on location. This latest product should result in a far bigger dealer network and geographic coverage.
Thanks for your answer . I am based in North Africa and Brazil so complicated to get the gear . 2 questions 1) Names of airlines you remember that take over 160 2) does dhl or other can send those batteries
@@ttreevilla-rt6cr I don’t know the regulations of all airlines. You’ll have to look up or contact the airlines you will be using yourself. Hey Dom another question please. Which battery are you using with the assist in this clip? I’ve decided on the MAX but thinking to wait for the sport battery to reduce the weight by 800gms. Ultimately I would like to surf foil, and do combo of pumping back out and using FD. What has been your experience with the different batteries for MAX?
This was with the Max and the power battery. The weight mostly disappears because it is located directly on top of the mast (the pivot point) so it doesn’t make as much difference as you think. The weight saving from the sport battery is nicer for sure, but it’s a compromise on run time. The sport battery will give you at least the same run time as the assists plus with its biggest battery, but the power battery gives 2 - 2.5 times that run time
Hi Dominic, this new set up is really sick. Nothing to see about the board. How noisy is it when using the drive? As in how far from shore would you have be for people onshore not to hear it?
It’s really quiet, you can barely notice anything when the props are in the water. When the motor pops out briefly it’s just sounds like an angry mosquito 🤣 People on the beach are not going to be disturbed
@@dominichoskyns9091 very cool. Electric motors are not allowed on the lakes in Switzerland. This looks like the perfect stealth mode, now that there is no battery on top of the board. What is the best way to get it delivered to Switzerland?

Using the motor as much as I did that day I would get at least 45 minutes, maybe up to an hour run time. The more I pump the longer the battery lasts.
