WHY RED 2 | Mark Toia | Shot on RED

- "So why do I choose RED? Well, it's pretty logical. It's a camera that's got so much color, depth, and incredible dynamic range that it can't be ignored. And a ton of resolution. And shoots RAW that you can edit and grade in real-time. And not forgetting it's got great frame rates, upwards of 400 fps at different crops. And the added bonus is the new V-RAPTOR sensor has another two stops in the blacks and another stop in the highlights to play with.
RED's 8K RAW file, gives me far more creative options on set and in post, and it's the single one reason why I shoot RED.” -Mark Toia, Director/Cinematographer

Mark was so inspirational and talented. RIP Mark Toia 🙏
As a stills photographer I have insane respect for these talented cinematographers. What a challenging profession and when someone really knows what they’re doing it’s incredible to watch
Share your ID, Would Love to see your work. I do stills myself ❤
Yea this dude is no joke.
i absolutely agree and thats what i was thinking about just right now, this was mighty impressive
rest in peace Mark! You was the n.1! My inspiration!!
I love the way Toia thinks and speaks. No nonsense. No BS. Straight to the point. Calls it like he sees it. This was fantastic.
I'm pretty sure he didn't do this ad for free..
@@hexagonixon How sure? Like kinda sure or very sure?
Yes his speaking is appealing but this is still "just" a commercial.
@@subven1 It’s a great endorsement. Sure. But that doesn’t make anything he’s saying invalid or disingenuous.

As a cinematography enthusiast, this video gives me chills
I confess I had never heard of Mark Toia before this video. I'm more of a photographer who just occasionally dabbles in Videography. But this video just absolutely amazed me. Every bit of footage was an absolute treat to watch and really inspiring. I fully intend to explore Mark's work now. Fantastic video.
Mark!!! You helped me so so so so much....i am so sad that you are gone.....so sad
A worthy follow up to 'Why Red?'. THIS is how you do a demo video: by not making it a demo video at all, but a highly cinematic documentary in it's own right.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mark back in 2012, he has championing RED cameras then, and was excited to show us some recent footage he had shot. His images speak for themselves.
I remember that. Mark was an incredible, generous host. Good times. :)
it looks like glorified iphone video
@@tylerjhunter perhaps youre watching this video on your smartwatch
@@toyotagaz unfortunately I'm watching on a 4k 32" IPS professional photography monitor
@@tylerjhunter bump the resolution from 144 to 1080, might help
Wow, this is all kinds of wonderful. Thank you for a most enjoyable experience, and for opening doors to RED's amazing tools.
Along with his epic resume, Toia's ability to inspire creatives is legendary.
Beautiful film with fantastic narration. Love everything about this.
I must say this must be the best video in regards to "Why Red". So many persons out there saying "in 2022, why red or why spend soo much". Mark Toia literally addressed every one of of those myths and misconceptions. Even down to the most technical stuff.
Director goes straight to the point, no BS, love it. Very inspiring, great video.
There is NO 2nd Mark Toia in this world, the great combination of technical + artistic skill at the same time, in one person
Budding cinematographer here, and sir i have specifically watched your "JEEP" advertisement for plenty of times. I was mesmerised by the visuals and the colors with perfect music blend + mind blowing narration. The entire mood creation of that specific ad is a masterpiece. Still my favourite one. I often watch it. Thanks for the video sir. Love from Kerala / India.
I watched Why Red (pt. 1) at least 10 times a few years back. Going to watch this one quite a few as well! Nicely done Mark!
Same here mate
So proud to be part of the RED family. MARK TOIA has always been an inspiration to take up RED. Thank you for such a beautiful image.
Honestly, wow the footage from the camera in this video is just gorgeous, wow just wow.
So we’ll informative, one of the best advertisements I’ve seen in a long while. No gimmicks. Love that rawness. I’m still half way through the add and I love it and the camera already. That’s the great thing about great products, no hyperbole.
Brilliant as always when you do these! You always convince me.
Simply WOW, this was done so well, the story the sound, the video.. incredible. I am a fan!
Damn, even under RUclips's heavy compression this video still looks dynamic
One of the best "ads"/promo I've seen.
I want to buy one... just need to sell some stuff. Maybe my soul, or my shoes
Massive respect for what you do Mark 🙏. Educating and promoting at the same time. Can't be any better ❤️ Love from Kerala ❤️
AMAZING tutorial! One of the most comprehensive tutorials I've seen for anytNice tutorialng. Thanks so much!
This is Master class. Much respect Toia we look 👀 up to you and your work
This is amazing, what a masterclass explanation. . We love shooting on RED KOMODO and can't wait to upgrade to the V-RAPTOR.
RIP Mark. Your videos are beautiful. ❤
I usually despice most ads, but this video was entertaining and I was just captivated by all the awesome shots and Toias narration. Really cool!
A true piece of art. Brilliant gentlemen.
Thank you, Mark
Great video and Beautiful shots, the cinematography and quality is amazing. We’ll be using red2 for music videos for sure!
Thank goodness for this man. What a talent.
This was impressive. Loved each and every shot
I must say this is one of the best promo videos I ever saw.
I had to watch this again! Very inspiring. Thank you!
Captivating stuff... You don't come across this production quality that often these days, well done
Stunning as always mark! I loved my red scarlet and the red codec but I couldn't afford the new models... but I could, I would buy one in a heart beat.
This is great! Thanks, Mark!
Nothing but the truth! Well done! Keep up the fantastic work! I’m a huge fan!
This simply is FIRE!!! What a story!!! amazing work!!!
This was outstanding… basically every reason why I want to shoot RED, and will !
ETTR. Good advice in 2008, still good advice in 2022. Outstanding product and outstanding talent in Mark Toia.
Mark Toia is the only guy, who creates content, that convinces me to really think about buying a red camera. Great work Mark.
i just watch this video tonight, i thought i would never consider buying a red, but now im reconsidering
That very video here. Blew. My. Mind. Cheers.
RED continues to be the best choice IMHO. Thank you Mark for the demystify and debunk pass. This video is an excellent work of filmmaking in and of itself 🙏
This makes me feel so good.
Another great one by Toia. Thanks for the inspiration. I continue to shoot with mine for the 8th year now
this is the best ad video ive ever seen, im still here at 11 minute and its just incredible, im an amateur director on the rise and i know how hard it is to do this. thank you for keeping me so intrigued and excited about a camera lol
Mark you are awesome and an inspiration!
The best soft soft tutorial ever!
This was absolutely amazing
most beautiful footage my eyes have seen
Mind blown! Thank you Mark Toia!
I love it. A Great insightful glimpse at The RED Camera.
Gorgeous shots
This is the best ad I've ever seen.
Jesus! This is beautiful. Thanks for creating a beautiful piece.
Loved the copy. Really enjoyed the delivery.
Another useful link to send to clients who request ProRes instead of R3D files. Thanks Mark and Red 🙏
This was an incredible video I got chills just watching thank you very much for this informative short film I loved it
Wonderfully Put together Mark.
RiP Mark Toia 🙏🙏 Your light will keep shining on...
Mind-blown!
Holy! Whoever colour graded this, Kudos!
I don't know much about this topic but I feel kinda motivated to start to learn more about it. Amazing video and product.
My point of view and whole myths to the red camera is changed now.
This was so beautiful yo watch and learned a lot really a looot
This is such an awesome ad.
This was such a great breakdown.
I love how mark talks his sh*t. Unfiltered. This was amazing.
Beautiful.
that was really comprehensive. thank you.
I recently moved from a Blackmagic 6Kpro to a Red Komodo and I have to say, whilst I think the Blackmagic Camera is fantastic, the difference is exactly what Mark is saying here - the RED image is always what I see and so easy to grade - true colours and skin tones are bang on. It just looks beautiful with so much flexibility in post, (which is also why it's Netflix approved). p.s. I've have pulled stills from my video and used it for photography jobs and yes they are beautiful too - perhaps my only slight push back is you do need to wait for boot-up times and occasionally black-shade if circumstances require, but that's more than worth it for anyone who is seeking the best final image.
(if anyone is interested I will do a side by side BMPCC4k/BMPCC6kPRO/Canon R5/RED Komodo)
Please do… I own the 4K and am considering a Komodo in the near future
please do
@@kundaivera I have both the P4k and the Komodo and will tell you Rod is spot on. " boot-up times and occasionally black-shade" is annoying but you really can push the image more. Both are great cameras though and I wouldn't hesitate to use the P4k on a project.
@@marshallandroxy p4k is not 1/6th price of a komodo tho? o.O
Do you grade in Resolve.. love Resolve.. wasn't sure if it can handle Red RAW cleanly like it does BRAW. That is one of the best things about the BM Camera.. BRAW. It just works so smoothly in Resolve even on lesser hardware. I wasn't sure if you had to transcode R3D to something else to work with it in Resolve or not.
Great video Mark!
absolutely stunning work.
Mind blown!
I never really knew what I wanted to do when I grew up, few months ago I slowly transitioned from programming to 3D graphics, I love it, but still it wasn't The thing, then I started learning about photography and slowly started falling into the secrets of cinematography and it's so incredible feeling just seeing all these things and finally I'm starting to feel like this was always something I wanted to do. I hope that in future I will be able to work with cameras and quality like this. Incredible video...
The gear you have won't make you a great cinematographer, the skills you learn and how to implement them will. The same goes for being a photographer.
That's why I've been shooting RED since 2008, thanks Mark!
Been preaching this for ages but some times people do not understand.
With Mark's imagery that is much easier to understand!
Great video! Amazing work and great story! ❤️🔥
I believe this is the most beautifully done video/commercial I have ever seen in my entire life. I am by no means a photographer, I've never heard of Red,never owned a camera in my life. This man just sold me something I never knew I was interested in. I'm on my way to purchase my first red camera and to you Sir....I tip my hat. Now I've got a new hobby to get after. Well done 👏
This is the best thing you've ever posted. Hope you can cut this into a superbowl ad
Inspiring and one of the best advertisement i have seen in a while.
Love this!
I love this type of content
I love this video! It was super inspiring thank you.
Such a great video! Maximum inspiration
Thank you sir for this insight!📽🎬
Feels like a masterclass in 11 mins 😃 best ever
Thanks Mark, always an inspiration. Was thinking as a side note, with todays cinema cameras, I don't see any reason why its considered "unartistic" to pull stills from video for photography at this point. Isnt that what we did back in the day anyway? with motorized film rollers and stacks of contact sheets, burst shooting? then pick the best of the best (or the worst if it looks the best?) My friend said "yeah but thats not actual photography" and I don't see why not. if a picture is worth a thousand words, than 120 a second is..... Ive actually shot parties and used a flash with a DLSR while filming them. Always that few frames before or after the "flash" that really captures the essence of the mood. man we live in a great time. by the way, I watched the clip at 9:57 about 20 times. just amazing
"Not actually photography." Well, gee, I thought photographic art was heart first, brain later, and technology last. The only barrier I can see is that video is shot at slow shutter speeds, so you might not get sharpness where you'd like it.
The shot at 9:57 is "Theyyam" a ritual form of dance worship in Kerala and Karnataka (India)
If I may, Teddy, when one is shooting a moving image at 24, 25 or 30 FPS, often enough there would be a fair amount of motion blur. That is the primary reason for not pulling stills from a video frame. Otherwise there is absolutely no issue, and in my client work we have often extracted frames (usually DPX/EXR/TIFF) and given to the publicity & marketing teams. The still photographers capture images in higher megapixels and with posing specifically for marketing and post in mind, so this is more an exception than a norm
Rest in peace, Mark. An incredible loss to the community, industry, and world today.
This is beautiful you made me love it. Thank you
Beautiful, inspiring and lots of information. Thanks for this beautiful short. Loved what you said about sharpness! Totally true!!! I film with the bmpcc 6k Pro in RAW all the time and perfectly understand what you said about it. I thought RED files were a bit hard to handle though. 8K 120 fps must be like 🤯. Thanks 🙏 I just need the 💰but I’d definitely love to own one of those gorgeous cameras. Cheers
Just Amazing
incredible
Outstanding.
best camera commercial in the whole galaxy!
Loving my Gemini and Komodo combo. Hoping for a Gemini equivalent in raptor body. Dual iso and global shutter are my biggest wants in a new body. Great video btw 🔥
know your basics course is just what I needed. Taking it a day at a ti so I can fully grasp the core of soft.
Great video. 👏🏻 Amazingly done!
