Ahh man, thank you for the shout-out!!! I'm very humbled to be part of this community and to also consider you a friend. Just like you I LOVE this hobby and want everyone to experience the "game changing" excitement of a DOF Reality rig and I'm so glad you are still enjoying it a year later. I honestly can't imagine flying without it now, it has become that integral of an element for me. I will say I think the "cogging" issue has gotten WAY overblown and honestly with my Buttkicker going I hardly feel it when it does occur, so I'm with you, it is good enough even in it's current state, and with DOF looking into it, I bet they make it better at some point down the road. So sincerely thank you for mentioning me and as always if I can help anyone out there with questions, please don't hesitate to ask! -Mark
It's the very least I can do my friend, thank YOU for everything you have done for both the VR and motion platform communities. It wouldn't be the same without you buddy. Keep being you!
Absolutely 100% second that. I was convinced getting the H2 by one of your first videos and I have the same experince as you, very reliable and adds a very important dimension to sim flying. Now I just can’t fly without it. So, thank you for convincing me!!
I really cannot imagine flying without it now. I'm so glad you are enjoying your H2 ☺️
@@VRFlightSimGuy I've been looking into motion simulators for a bit now, i was thinking try to build one using truck windshield wiper motors. But it seems you can't really go wrong with these being so affordable. I can understand why you wouldn't want to fly without it, i wouldn't want to fly without my bass shakers even if they're such simple devices.
Does anyone know much is the customs charge in the UK ? For say an H2 with a few accessories. Around £1950
Dear Steve, I'm watching you channel for a while and so happy about there are sonme others who has the same hobby as mine. I'm flying with similar rig, Pimax headset and motion platform, but I have my own built motion platform with bigger heave motion. MSFS, DCS on my daily list also. It is a hobby. By the way I hope that at some thay we got satellite based visuals in DCS also...So just keep cool and keep making the stuff to the others.!!! Cheers!!!! George, Hungary
That is VERY impressive! It's so wonderful that we can all share this wonderful passion together here. Please do say hello over on my Discord channel and show us your setup. Best wishes.
What I did some years ago is due go budget reasons bought a used m2 and build my own rig on it. Balanced everthing with some gas struts which still works very smooth. So I can really underline the quality of DOF even in very hard conditions. Krgds
You convinced me with your reactions in the first video and my H3 still lives in the dining room and wife hasn’t killed me yet. You didn’t mention that when you go inverted it really feels like it even though it’s only your brain being fooled between the vr and motion.
What a blast flying fighter jets.
That's fantastic Stuart, you clearly have an awesome wife 😀 Once I flipped over in my Spitfire and I swear for a second, I thought I was upset down 🤣
@stuartscottydog: Is it possible to share your settings for the H3 in Simracingstudio. The H3 reacts with jerks for me from time to time
Hi Steve you are so spot on motion simulators are game changers. I have the Yaw VR 2.5 and it is amazing.
How are you finding the hardware? How long have you been using it? I love the problem, but I'm afraid about the long term usage and durability...
I purchased my H3 after watching you H2 video, Going on a year of ownership now and I am still very pleased. I do notice a bit of Notching/cogging during small movements, but it does not break the immersion for me. I installed grease fittings on the gearboxes and do a Little Preventative maint. from time to time, also check all the bolts. Thanks for you Great Content Steve !
Great tips thanks James 🙂
When did you purchase it? I know they've developed new parts for the H3 to stop the cogging.
Oh Steve, every time I watch your vids I draw up a new financial plan.
Love your vids and hope you’re still putting miles on that FJR! 🙏🏍️
Hey there buddy! Good to see you here still. I have another BIG tour video coming soon, hot of the heels of our Norway tour. It should be on the channel in the next week. Have you bought that 1300 beast yet? ;) Best wishes.
Here's part 2 in case you have two hours spare lol ruclips.net/video/J_DVFjSjmK0/видео.html
Steve, I am so thrilled with my DOF P3. I have never ever had a problem with it working right. I have had mine a year now and countless hours of enjoyment. I wish MSFS was as carefree as the DOF!
I couldn't agree more mate. It's been surprisingly hassle free for such a complex device.
So glad to hear that it doesn’t require a lot of tweaking! I always wondered about that.
A quick comment: In your videos, the motion simulator seat seems to move and stay in the same direction as the airplane's roll during turns. If that is the case, your body would lean in the same direction as the plane's roll, which would produce a very unnatural feel. In a real plane, your body would first lean opposite to the plane's roll, then reverts to a position vertical to the seat once centrifugal forces come into play. This would require the seat to first lean in a direction opposite to the plane's roll, followed by a slow return to vertical during the turn. I might be wrong, but I think this is how the big motion simulators do it.
Correct, it is called washout.
Got the p3 last june, like Steve really happy with it.👍
You and Mark convinced me with your first videos, and I got myself a 6DOF rig. It takes a while to fine tune all settings in SRS, but once done, this platform is an absolute blast, a game changer indeed. For GA and airliner flying, I think it is best to tune the motion down quite a bit, in particular the roll axis. The brain just needs motion cues, and the DOFR platforms deliver these beautifully. I don’t think that they are very good for simulating aerobatics, but there is a reason why the professional sims cost millions, not thousands…
The cogging issue exists, but can be masked with a butt kicker (which I consider a must anyways, if total immersion is what you‘re after). Curious what the DOFR anti cogging hw solution consists of, and if it can improve the overall experience. But I‘m a happy camper even today :-)
Interesting point about the buttkicker, will keep that in mind.
I couldn't agree more and I'm so glad we both helped you make that decision. It really is a game changer. Perhaps that's why I don't find the cogging such an issue due to my Haptic Seat.
Which buttkicker is recommended?
@@TonyDrecapsAs a matter of fact, any will do. Gamer-2 is fine, or one of the newer models. Make sure to use SimHaptic (or similar) to get the most out of it!
can nothing add to your Video. Purchased my H2 ,i guess, a few weeks later from your first Video. This thing is sturdy as hell, I packed, i dont know, easy 50kg on stuff on it and no problems. Stutters are a lil noticeable but with my Jetseat Pad arent a Problem.
Maintenance is not really a thing. Put some grease on the Joint and the Ballspindles and its done. i guess you havent to do either. The only thing than can maybe brake some time is the joint and maybe a motor. But i guess the motors have so less stress their gonna go forever. The Joint i guess is easily found as 3rd Party Part, even a massive one.
And i love my H2 even that i figured out Motion Comp completly a few weeks ago. And now its even more awesome. Ive added all the accessories possible to my Rig like Belt Tensioner, Wind Kit and of course a Direct Drive Wheel. Because in Sim Racing, with the Tensioner, Driving a F40 or GT3 Car is something other than flying but wow!!!! Going down the Eue Rouge, Wind is blowing to my Chest, Rig is moving and down in the valley the Belt kicks you in the Seat.
Configured this weekend all my Warbirds in DCS and what an experience with Motion Comp working. Those old Birds are shaking on Taxi like hell, accelerating for takeoff you feel the plane and can correct its way and up. Helicopter flying isnt descripable. As soon as the Huey is of the ground you feel its whobbling through the air.
Can write pages here of that thing.
On my Channel i have also alot of Videos with my Rig. Little advertisement here ;)
Keep going with your good content and thanks for that purchase Tipp of my Simming Life :)
Loved reading about your experiences thank you for sharing! I'll now check out your channel 😃
@@VRFlightSimGuy thank you for visiting.
you have to try Simracing too. Grab a basic Fanatec CSL DD and have fun. You don't have to race multiplayer or competitive. I often sit in my Ford GT and do a lap or two on the Nordschleife. Get Assetto Corsa. There's a ton of free cars and tracks and works great in VR.
What are you doing for motion compensation? What vr headset are you using? Thanks.
@@whiterooksme Quest 3 now and I use the witmotion sensor within SRS. But was a pain in the a... To get it running and understanding what's wrong.
Yes in this instance it is really a "game-changer" however the overuse of that word has made it mean very little these days glad you recognize that❤
mate Got my H3 after seeing your vid..100% incredible machine
I never knew that mate!
Have the same experience as you Steve with my H3s after using it a half year, its the best purchase ever, have a bit trouble with the firmware in the beginning but the support from DOF REALITY is amazing good. Highly recommended, and the cogging is no problem with the use of my 2 Dayton Basshakers
After one year, do you still feel the sensation you are inside an airplane and moving around, or your brain already realized its just a motion rig?
@@arride4590Absolute it feel your in the plane with VR, the sensation stays, your brain is not realize your in a motion rig, always wear safety bells, every flight is more intense
Have you considered upgrading to H3? Maybe they could send you an upgrade for review?
Spot on Steve.. had mine sinde october now and can't imagine flying witout it.. Maybe thats the only point of critisim.. It completely spoils and ruins you.. But one could say that about many things in flight simming, just as I cant fly outside of VR, I dont think I can ever fly again without motion :)
Totally agree! Thanks for watching:)
Thank you for your decision to give away 500 motion chairs to the first 500 people to post comments, not. (He would have to sell his house first, LOL).
"I was thinking in my head like there's so many things that could go wrong, maybe I have to switch buttons on in a certain way and like set it up in a certain way every time it'll need calibrating every time I set it up" With that premise you shouldn't have tested the Crystal either xD
Just about to order the H3
Do you regret not getting the H6? I'm in the market for either the H3 or the H6.
Is there a quick "one button" type of solution for getting it configured for flight and racing sims? Maybe a default setting for getting going that can then be tweaked over time?
Or, are there quick getting started options for those who may be overwhelmed by all the sliders and what each do? Something like a. full immersion, b. good but less likely to make you nauseous, c. a little movement ?
I'd personally choose a.
Thanks for the update Steve. When in VR plus the motion rig: Does anyone notice it adding to motion sickness when in ariel combat? I was dealing with it slightly in the early days in VR but I have got used to it now. So I was a little concerned adding the motion rig someday, the mild sickness might return, LOL! The older I get, the more sensitive I have become sadly!
My pleasure mate. Hopefully someone else can chime in as I don't personally experience sickness. However, if anything, I'd imagine a motion rig will help with that, since the reason you experience nausea, is the conflict between your brain thinking you are moving, when your body is not.
Hithere, Pimax Crystal user here, I only play DCS and I was thinking bout pulling the trigger on an H2 (maybe upgrade to a 3rd motor for YAW later on), my concerns are about the motion compensation, and would like to know from you if using the WIT motion compensation would work fine, since I don't have the lighthouse faceplate neither any base stations and would be using only the inside-out tracking
Thanks :)
Hey mate, can you please tell me which accessories have you added to your H2 rig (I mean both the DOF reality extras and the peripherals/controllers for gaming - joystick, levers, yoke, etc..). Wanted to put something together exactly like yours. Cheers!
What is that hardware fix for stepping? And is it made by DOF? And is stepping also an issue on the other models like H3 and H6? Or even P3 and P6?
It looks cool, but only for now and then and in 30 min increments. When using this, VR is about your only option as staring at stationary screens when moving will break immersion. When wearing VR, you loose the ability to look at charts, control avionics with your hands, etc. This really just becomes a visual experience rather than a Sim when you add VR and motion.
To each their own though. DOF did say they fixed the stepping with a kit or in their new units for those worried about that. Lastly, this is not cheap no matter how you want to justify the price.
Have you noticed any kind of lag at all mate? I'm thinking of buying this for sim racing where the turns are much quicker than on an average MSFS flight
I bought an H2 after I saw his original review. I feel like it performs best in sim racing vs flight sim, mostly due to the slight stepping-motion when turning slowly, but flight sims are still way better with the motion than without. I also found that it felt laggy in MSFS until i set the motion from "pitch" to "rate" in sim racing studio. Not sure why that made a difference
These things were originally made for racing so that is REALLY where they shine. I actually think the H6 is more of a must for racing than for flight TBH. Feeling the road noise, having the surge when you accelerate and having the sway when you sideswipe a guardrail or another car is REALLY a jolting experience. I haven't noticed any lag in the racing I've done and you can also tune these things extensively to make it match your expectations. Hope that helps.
Good video! I'd like to get an h6 one day
The H6 is amazing... I love the surge when I kick in the afterburner, and the heave is awesome when you hit the carrier deck for a landing! Highly recommended.
@@GYGOtv awesome! Can't wait to try it at some point. You provide great reviews
@@TonyDrecapsYou are welcome, love my H6!
This thing is my dream. I will buy it in 2 years I guess. So this marketing video is pretty working for company Xd Cause now I want it XD hehe..... Mr Sim Guy You should test H3 version and let us know is difference big or not ;)
This isn't a marketing video I can assure you 👍
I can second Steve's comment, these things are just that good that we have to talk this way about them! No payment needed :)
You really should try inverting Your roll axis, especially with highly maneuverable planes.
Flying is not like racing. I cannot imagine that it would feel right as when I bank, I feel myself tipping into it just like a real aircraft. But I may give it a go one day. But I'm not convinced 😄
@@VRFlightSimGuy When slowly dipping from side to side, You are right, with fast rolls, You are wrong, thats why there usually is a setting for sustained and sudden forces.
@@VRFlightSimGuyDoesn't feel right to me either, but to each their own.
@@VRFlightSimGuy I was a little harsh saying Youre wrong, but Ive flown acro a few times and fast rolls is actually quite close to fast cornering in a race car. Your vestibular system cant keep up. So inverting the seat quickly while rolling, gives You a good sense of the initial feeling, then, when stopping the roll and holding Your bank angle to a side, the seat should move over to the same side Youre holding the bank angle. Try it👍
Is this the "Flight" version of the H2?
Hey Steve. Thanks so much for this. You have convinced me to take the plunge! Would you recommend your chair? Which one do you use?
Congratulations! My chair is not really designed to fit as it's a modified Secret Labs Titan chair. I had to drill a few extra holes for it to fit 😄
@@VRFlightSimGuy thanks for replying. If anyone has any recommendations I would be grateful!
Hi Steve, first off thanks for your great content. I have just purchased the DOF H3 and I am having problems first deciding on what type of seat and also having confidence that it will actually fit the motion platform. Any tips and suggestion would be gratefully appreciated. Kind regards.
Cheers David. I'm not sure sorry, as I use my Titan Secret Labs chair which I had to drill some extra holes to make fit. Best ask on my Discord under motion rigs. Cheers!
Question: If there is a hardware fix for the cogging issue, would new units come with that fix already implemented? If not, is there an option to have them fix it before shipping? If so, how much would that add to the price?
Not an official fix yet but honestly it isn't that big a deal... I recommend a transducer like a buttkicker and it will mask that feeling for the most part (it only happens on VERY slow turns). DOF generally includes upgrades on a regular basis so I think once they develop a solution it will be standard on all new units is my guess.
Steve, another helpful video. One question. What aircraft are you flying in this video?
I looked in the MSFS marketplace and couldn't find it.
Cheers Steve. This is the DA42 by COWS. I have a full review on the channel here: ruclips.net/video/1KHPL-aZnC0/видео.htmlsi=ElmqsZ_H9e_opXZb
@@VRFlightSimGuySteve, thanks for the quick response. I will check it out now. I really like the visibility that the DA42 offers. I am big fan of Van's RV14a for the same reason.
I bought the H3 after listening to your reviews and although it does enhance the experience I had never heard you mention the notchiness of the motion in low speed turns ( due to to motor characteristics) until now and I honestly feel that is a bit of an emersion killer. Had I known that I may have not have invested in a motion rig.
Strange as I talk about it in this video which is nearly a year old: ruclips.net/video/67UhtqQDsWQ/видео.htmlsi=bV5uIO9cJ60VkPqQ
@@VRFlightSimGuy I must've missed that vid but the initial vids never mentioned it as I recall. Don't get me wrong I'm not blaming you. I think it definitely adds to VR and simming but had I chance to experience it in advance I'm not sure I would've taken the plunge in the end.
Looks awesome, did you manage to get it into the country without the rip-off import tax?
£150 tax
I'm very much on the fence about getting a motion rig. I just had a couple of questions I was hoping you might be able to answer in one of your videos unless you already did and I just missed it. What is the telemetry output like in most major flight sims? I'm talking like Microsoft flight simulator 2020 is obviously very good. Is DCS exactly the same in terms of the responsiveness? How about xplane, IL2 sturmovic, il2 cliffs of Dover. How about older Sims like Falcon 4.0 or space Sims like elite dangerous?
Hi, since Steve mentioned me in his video I'm trying to throw my 2 cents in until he replies. Telemetry in IL2, MSFS2020 and DCS is really good and Elite Dangerous might be one of my favorite experiences in the motion rig all together. That being said, I don't think any of the telemetry is perfect and sometimes you get some weirdness (like elite as a bug when you come out of warp it throws you forward really hard), but you can tune that stuff to your liking in SRS and that is what makes this so great. One of the BEST things is even if the software doesn't send telemetry, you can use the joystick emulation option with a premium SRS account and basically with the movement of the joystick you will move in pitch, roll and yaw. I have to use this method in Star Wars Squadrons, and even though it doesn't have any other effects... it is still a very immersive experience. You could also use that for older sims like Falcon or whatever you want. Hope that helps. -Mark
Hi Steve. Like someone said earlier it might be worth you inverting the roll axis, especially in more manoeuvrable planes.
I would be interested to know what you think and if it helps with emersion ?
Flying is not like racing. I cannot imagine that it would feel right as when I bank, I feel myself tipping into it just like a real aircraft. But I may give it a go one day. But I'm not convinced 😄
yeh i get what your saying but just that first push of the stick should maybe push you the other way and then it could slowly bank into the turn like you say, that makes more sense to me and how the big professional sims do it i think. I don't have one so i don't know but that's how i all ways imagined it could work.@@VRFlightSimGuy
This looks awesome! What kind of seat do you have in your H2 rig Steve?
Hey Russell, I'm using my old Secret Labs Titan Chair, although it took a few attempts (and some extra drilling) to make it work. Cheers.
@@VRFlightSimGuythought I recognised it, I have the same chair, good to know its possible to re purpose it to the motion rig!
Content machine, I can't keep up 😅 Unfortunately, I don't have any space. But if someone has space and doesn't buy it after this recommendation in the video, you can't help them anymore.
lol it has been mental on the channel recently. Thanks for keeping up 😁
How is this thing feeling and behaving when you are in a fighter jet and doing a 360 degree roll? Does it throw you back the other way when the roll is nearing its completion?
No thanks goodness
Did you fit the mod yet?
Interesting.. I didn’t know these things existed. If you had space, would you upgrade to 3DOF? 6DOF? And do you think the 330lb pilot rating for the H2/H3 is realistic? (I’m well under that but historically abusive to chairs..). Thanks!
I'll throw my 2 cents in until Steve can answer. 330 shouldn't be an issue with the SFU drives. I've had some pretty big guys in my rig and it is fine. Might not move a quickly as with a light person, but still works fine and doesn't seem to overload the motors. I would recommend the gas struts if you go with an H6, they help raise the rig up quicker so that can't be a bad thing. I would absolutely recommend upgrading to an H3 and possibly an H6 depending on what you are looking for. The H2/H3 has a little more movement for pitch and roll, but the awesomeness of the Heave on the H6 when you land (and you HIT the ground) is so incredible. I also really like the surge feeling when I kick in the afterburners, or do a catapult shot off the deck. Hope that helps... Steve what do you think?
I need to fly over to yours for the weekend so I can try out your H6 😁
@@GYGOtv H6 sounds really good for helicopter sim..

I have a video explaining motion compensation ruclips.net/video/ukjgLyJl_CA/видео.htmlsi=nB-yDfR35WMqAHJQ
the one thing i dont like about the h3 is that you can't lock it there when you don't want to use the motion
You could set a profile, although the motors are not designed to be stationary for long periods of time.
@@VRFlightSimGuy the latest has brakes on all motors.
The new ones have brakes so they will lock into place, that was the reason for the design change to the cardan (U-joint) shafts.
@@GYGOtv Do you know if someone did some kind of hack to lock it in place ssomehow must not be too hard to do?
@@boblatouche2273Not that I know of. The problem was the motors use to move along with the Gearbox so they couldn't really mount the magnetic brake to it. They redesigned the whole unit so the motor could stay static and that was what let them add the brake. Not sure if you could do that with the old design. If you do find someone who did it, please let me know. Thanks!
You need the H6
Not enough room!
@@VRFlightSimGuyI second @crazzylee when you do eventually get enough room!
Does it simulate acceleration by tilting backward?
Yes
Hi Steve, have you got SFU gearbox upgrade feeling stepping?
It's still there even with the upgrade, but I think it is smoother longer. Honestly not that much different.
Affirm 👍
@@VRFlightSimGuy so sad 😑
@@VRFlightSimGuy I wonder if they're not 'micro stepping' the motors on the SFU upgrade?
@@ColinDyckesmotors still do it... the different shaft just change the gear ratio but not enough to get rid of the problem. I personally think they will need to go to the planetary gear method like Robert's mod but use helical gears to reduce the noise... the straight gears are too loud for me.

no it isn't - had the P3 for 2 years, responsiveness is just not enough as well as speed. It is immersive, yes, but for sim racing too distracting. Problem: systems rhat would suit sim raccing are 7000 and above...
it's perfect for car-sims, rally are amazing
Does it simulate gunn fire? and work with buttkicker or doesnt need it Bk with this?
Yes 👍
I love the combination of my Buttkicker and the built in effects. IMO the Buttkicker also helps mask any cogging you might feel.
I'm not 100% sure if I got it right. Do you like the DOF Reality H2 ? Have a splendid week 🙂
You too buddy. Spring is getting closer!
@@VRFlightSimGuy😛
If you have some capability to build things, designing your own motion rig for sub $300-400 is completely doable. Fun building project and a good way to learn about some amateur robotics while building something awesome for the home simmer. That's my plan!
Best of luck with that 👍 As for me, I wouldn't have the foggiest idea how to do something like that.
The thing I don't like on these motion rigs is that the forces don't represent the real ones in a real aircraft. I want to feel the G forces, not have the chair leaning on the same direction of the aircraft. You don't get trown side to side on a curve like that, unless when using the rudder or some bumps on the ground. When you turn you just feel back and butt pressure so it should just lean backwards. The same thing I want to feel during takeoff and clib, I need it to lean heavily during takeoff to simulate those G forces. I love the approach from the guys at YAW VR 2, just don't think I trust the product just yet...
From my experience in real aircraft, it feels damn close. You can configure the motion rig to behave in many different ways. When I get catapulted off a carrier, or thunder down a runway (even in a powerful GA aircraft), you really feel the acceleration.
That can be remedied in the SRS software. I have my roll axis set to „angle“ and turned way down. So I don’t get the unnecessary roll motion in a coordinated turn. Once dialed in correctly, these platforms are a blast to fly. And with motion, the most important thing is: less is more…
@@VRFlightSimGuy maybe this is just me who never used one so... 😅 tnx for the feedback
@@hanskrohn the "less is more" thing is what I heard form a few people and I totally get it. I want precision and fast responses before range.
You need to get the tension r seat belts they work really well with this rig and pull you into the seat and make you fell the g forces
Have you tried it on any driving sims? I know you're a flight sim guy, but...
I really should!
