THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I have same AIO, SAME ISSUE and now following your video I fixed it... THANK YOU !!! BTW, The coolant plate had the exact same gunk and coolant was chunky...
Nice Job I was waiting for the Raditator Flush to come out. Glad its working better Thanks for the Video.
Didn't have to get out the Prestone flush this time!
Well, i was one of the unlucky 360 buyers here in Chile during january. Left it for 3 weeks in vacation and after that (may), well we all know how it ended. I want to share this because this can help people for future experiences with MSI.
The tricky thing is that i couldn't make effective the guarantee with MSI because my product wasn't registered on their website (i added it, but not registered which is really nitpicky for common users who aren't familiar with this kind of practise). They say i should ask for "repairment" in the distributor where i bought it. The thing is MSI doesn't exists in Chile, so that doesn't apply, but in this case the distributor told me that RMA was full of requests from other people.
By the way, my product wasn't on the damaged series they mentioned in their statement (checked with the serial number).
At the end, the distributor took the bullet and made the refund. I hope this helps anyone :)
me ayudó a mi, no lo compré.
I fixed mine by opening the same spot you did, taking out the metal plate. Draning all the liquid down(it was full of sediments) and then proceeded to fill it with vinegar while moving the radiator so bubbles come out about 3 times. For each time you fill it, wait about 5 minutes for the vinegar to act. Then flush it many times with distilled water, and when you feel all the vinegar and sediments are gone, fill it carefully with distilled water while moving the radiator a lot, shake it so bubbles come out. Once you feel it's completely full and don't hear almost any water sound that can spot spaces left with air when you move your radiator, close it and install it on your computer. Make it work for 5 to 6 hours, don't run stress tests. When those hours have already passed, you can try metrics and stress tests to figure out if you are going to need another fill.
Will taking out and reinstalling the metal plate cause leakage? I am afraid of this... 🥺
@@yixuanliang4149 No, it doesnt! Make sure you screw it well!
@@jafs65 Thanks. I might try it 😅
did you fill it up only with distilled water afterwards, or did you use some coolant or other mixture?
@@lintfordpickle Only with distilled water. It's the best coolant agent you can find and also non conductive one!
Same issue here, with 360 MAG v2!!! your video saved my computer! thank you!
Interesting video, I can relate to this computer component, because it has a radiator 😂
Glad you were able to get cool as it should, I wonder if it had some air trapped in there also.
Good Job👍
When watercooling a PC was being experimented with, around 1998, people were using automotive heater cores, whatever the cheapest thing was at Advanced Auto or Autozone at the time, and some plumbing parts from Home Depot! Some people tried using fuel pumps to move water around. That went well 🤣🤣
@@WaybackTECH Wow, I didn't know that.👍
M glad I found ur video, m currently doing the same to my 360R.
How much water for the refill pls ?
What liquid did u replace after the temperature and saturation test? Thank you!
Hi there everyone, just wanted to say that this is a common issue with this radiator because for a while the fluid they used in them was defective and I left sediment in the radiator. Mai is doing an ongoing recall of them and I just did mine and got the new one back
another youtuber did a video on one of these msi aios and when he opened it up it was all full of mold. he posted an update to the video today and msi is recalling these coolers and replacing them with a newer model free of charge. both the 240 and 360 version.
I will look into the recall. Thanks!
how do I apply for a replacment?
Yea how do we apply
@@BlackholeU_U just search msi recall. should be the first thing that comes up there is a ton of news post about it they will provide u a direct link to the msi site were u input your s/n. if ur is on the list then u just fill some stuff out and they ship u the replacement in advance with a label to return the old. if its not on the list but ur having the overheating issues then u just need to contact c/s to have it manually processed.
@@mraaron1584 they wouldn't replace it for me just because I'm outside the US, even though the problem started started in just 4 months. I had to buy a new coolant and replace it my self. Never buying from MSI again..
amazing repair, subbed
Hey great video, I was just wondering which screwdriver you used in this video?
They had a recall on these but they ended it in Feb. 2024, I purchased mine from Amazon on 2/28/2021 and it barely lasted 3 yrs and now it's overheating. I found they had a recall on these units but I chatted with them this morning and they ended the recall in Feb. 2024. I know mine wasn't under warranty but I was at least hoping they would still honor the recall but didn't know they had a cutoff date. I had already purchased the V2 which is comming tomorrow but honestly had I known they were't going to honor it I would've just went back to a Noctua air cooler and the fans are way easier and cheaper to replace. I had to order something because my Ryzen 9 3900xt was running 95c so I've had to configure the power options in Windows to force it to run at the lowest speed and it's currently at 50c. I may decide to clean it all out since I'm stuck with it, I can't really help it that mine decided to last a bit longer than what their cutoff date was. Needless to say I am not a happy camper.
@Kista79 Thank you for that I was going to purchase one for my gaming rig, but now I'm just going to stick with air.
@@eddiebrown967 The v2 has been running fine, I ended up using 6x Phanteks fans that are 30mm thick and keeps the 3900xt around 60-70c. 70 is a bit too high for my liking especially for being water cooled but I'm keeping my eye on it, it's running at 100% due to mining.
@Krista79 I ended up buying the RyujinII Rgb 360, but I wonder if I should've gotten the strix Lc360 Rgb instead
@@Kista79 Hh... my friend... you're gonna be in a whole world of hurt in another year... I have the V2 and im out here trying to figure out how to unclog it and clean it, but honestly i wish i had gotten anything else.
@@stefantanket8735 Mine runs 24/7 due to mining with a 3900xt. I have made a change on my Ryzen systems which was reducing the max and min cpu usage in Windows power settings, I lowered both down to 99%, these are headless units that do not have a monitor attached so accessing the bios is not readily available. Basically when I was running at 100% it was operating at the turbo clock speed and by lowering the limit it effectively reduced the watts by a ton and the temps are now easily managed. I suffered some losses on the hashrate but I feel it was well worth it in the longrun. I found Noctua makes a cooler for a 4u server case which is the size that this system is being used in. I've also been in the process of replacing these power hungry CPUs for ones that use less watts. I have another system what is basically a shoebox size case from Thermaltake with a 3600x that also runs hot, I replaced the fan on a Noctua low profile cooler that came with a slim 15mm which did help some but the power reduction saved that one until I can transfer it over into a larger case with better airflow, I may even swap it for another 5700x since they run so much cooler.
yeah these things basically had the same issue has the liqtech TR4 from Enermax had. Gamersnexus did a hit piece on those back in the day and they corroded like crazy.
Thanks a lot for this video. This at least gives me a light at the end of this AIO. Mine start to make really terrible sounds and after looking out other videos from people claiming that specifically this reference start to stop working or making really annoying noises. MSI mention that is due to the liquid cooler they use for this reference unfortunately the one I bought.
@WaybackTECH could you list the liquids (beside the alcohol) you use please? What is the one you use on minute 5:35 ?
And again thanks for this video.
What'd they fill it with, swamp water?
ı have the same liquid cooler
my 5900x was going so high
ı had to downgrade
if ı change the liquid will it work
thank you
Just had to take mine apart. Wasn’t even 6 months old. Clogged up big time. Idle temps at 65* and with a game title open in the menu was at 91*. Flushed it out, idle temps around 35* and full load at 70*. Initially pulled it out to clean the dust off the fins, shook it around to try and hear the fluid which is must have moved the sediment inside to complete clog the pump. Reinstalled, would reach 100* and shut the cpu down numerous times and at that point decided to take it apart.
Mine starts at 39 and goes up to 91 in BIOS before I power off to save my CPU. How could they sell this POS ?
@@lewisnerIt was apparent that they didn’t give a shit and tried to band-aid the entire situation by selecting certain serial number batches rather than recalling the entire product model. You can surely fix it yourself by flushing and replacing the coolant. I did it to mine and worked fine but because of the entire situation, I sold everything I owned MSI and bought a Corsair H150 Elite.
@recordbreaker5 I could probably fix mine but till then I will have no PC so I have ordered a Noctua NH D15 and will just retain the LED fans and sell the cooler Spares or Repairs. I tried the Intel stock cooler but it has a faulty clip so it was useless. I briefly considered getting one of the newer MSI AIOs but thought I may be throwing good money after bad.
thank you so much for this video, i've just fixed mine :)
16:34 Alvin and the Chipmunks did In Bloom justice.
Picked up a V2 of this AIO new today. Really just wanted a 360 radiator that was quick and available locally to replace the radiator portion of my Coolermaster ML 240R that can still allow me to use Master+ software and CM's RGB/ARGB controller that has a Mirage function with RGB, not ARGB, fans. If the temps are worse than my 240 from the factory it will be an instant return but if they're the same or better I'll keep it as it should fit in my new 011 Evo case better with longer tubes to clear my GPU.
Thanks for the tear down and commentary. I would have followed the same process but maybe flushed it in reverse with water pressure using tap water for some minutes.
Does V2 have the same problem?
@@yixuanliang4149 After 4 months use I haven't had any problems with the AIO mounted tubes up or down at the front/side of my 011 Evo case. I did however pickup a DeepCool LS720 360 AIO and will be swapping to that. The switch is more for aesthetics as I don't have any MSI gear installed on this PC and prefer the waterblock look on the new Deep Cool unit.
Did you have problems with v2 of this product?
@@galaxygames9635 The performance is really bad. It cannot even handle about 200 watts. The temp reaches 90 in one minute. Even so, the temp at idle is low enough and I don't think this is related to the cooling water.
@@galaxygames9635 Mine was fine, never went above 74C with 5900X with PBO and Active OC Tuner (PBO and manual OC auto switch depending on workload, only available on this MOBO at the time). I switched to Depp Cool LS 720 for aesthetics just recently, but the MSI 360 cooler always worked fine and was quiet. The pump in radiator design might allow for more mounting options too.
I'd say bad design, mine did the same thing after 4 months from new, had it returned picked up a MSI MAG CoreLiquid C360 now I'm getting the same trapped air sound in the pump 8 months later.
Meanwhile the h100 I picked up over 10 years ago is still going strong keeping an fx8150 under 50'C when under load.
Hey, how is the AIO ? is it still good? i will highly appreciate your response
I have the 240r and i have the exact same problem but it took over a year to appear
Im 50 degrees Celsius at idle on my brand new i9- 12900k DDR5 build. Paid $98 for this pump. Yikes. What a shame to produce a potential danger to your cpu.
Did you exhaust the radiator or pull air in? I have 3 front fans pull, one pushing out the back and this installed at the top w/ 3 fans blowing through the radiator out the top of my case.
Due to the color of the gunk... that looks like the same corrosion that a hot water tank will see if it is installed without dielectric unions. When two different metals come in contact with each other, an electrolytic reaction begins, where water serves as the electrolyte. As a result the metals start to corrode.
I would have done 70% Antifreeze, 30% soft water or at least a 50/50 mix. Whatever you did will be an improvement over what was in there. Thank you for this video.
Keep us updated if this kept it cool or how long till the next "radiator flush".
Glad it actually does allow for self service and not a 3 yr use than toss in the garbage.
Had what's going on in the video except with 240R instead of 360R.. Would idle 30-40c and when i would boot a game up it would be in the 85-95c range. Sent it back for a refund and have gotten myself a Corsair H100i pro XT, Will have to see when it gets here if it fixes the issue.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS FOR YOU! im thinking of swapping also to test if it fixes because im having the same exact issue with the temp being so high when gaming.
I have one of these and my CPU has started massively overheating, When I power my PC on it starts at 39 c and climbs at 1 degree a second heading for 100 or more. The pump shows as 4200 RPM. I could RMA it but I may just junk it and go for an ugly but efficient air cooler.
Does cars liquide cooler work ??
ma men how did you remove the radiator cap? it is just a screw or what?
Why no Thermale Paste?
I just got this on my sons pc, it was hitting 90 at idle, so I opened it up and the channels where blocked on the plate with sediment. This was on the 280R.
have one with the same problem after 1 year of usage
Yes this is my case too
my 360r aio had this exact problem. idle temps were normal but when gaming it maxes out at 100c on almost all cores (im running an i7-10700k). so i took it apart and found sediments blocking the coolant in the cpu block area. i replaced it with an automotive coolant mixed with distilled water and temps are now back to normal. i think the only issue with this product is that they made use of low quality coolant which corrodes overtime.
hı what temperatures do you get
after you replaced wıth automotıve coolent and dıstılled water dıd ıt helped
@@gorkman5697 yes its been working fine ever since i replaced it for 10 months now. i took it apart in january and temps are just like when it was brand new. on idle i get about 33-38c, when gaming its around 60-71c
WAIT......The chipmonks sing nirvana?
Good video!
I bought one for $40 on eBay. (A steal) Seller said they had a Similar problem where it idles at 75° and 95° under load. I opened it up and saw the same gunk lol. Gonna test it out soon
No surprise. Apparently it is quite common for China makers of the AIO's to have used sewer water to fill them.
I got the 'Cold Sweat' (Thin Lizzy) ..when I saw this video!! - I just ordered a PC with a v2 of this cooler inside..??!
I have MSI 360R CPU water cooler. it is really bad quality.
- Good cooling performance or efficiency, but
The pump stop working after 2 or 3 weeks of idle computer (if you don't turn it on)
You need to clean it every 3 months or maximum 6 months
Msi eventually done a product recall on these because of that galvanic corrosion.
I've thought about cleaning mine but just keep putting it off let us know the long term how the automotive antifreeze works. I wouldn't use the OAT coolant, and since no one else has said this yet ACES over EUROPE next to your corn flakes Interesting placing 🤣
The game was a thrift store find. I have no tried it yet. But it was $2 and has a really neat book in it. I have been using the extended life AF in my water cooled system for 15 years now since I ran out of the Thermaltake provided coolant. I have yet to have an issue with it in that system, so I too am curious why it wouldn't work in an AIO but we will find out.
Ofc the only part I needed to see was the refill and that’s the part that was not here
How did it get it stopped up? interesting
A lot of AIO's apparently came filled with sewer water ( not really but close ) bad fluid that coagulates and crystalizes .
There is a recall on some of these, punch in serial number on MSI website see if yours is part of the bad batch
its not a bad batch problem, it is a problem by design. many problematic serial numbers are NOT covered by the recall, MSI are just pretending they care.
I hope MSI can exchange mine... I have the 240r... If not can you give any tips on how to do this properly?
I'm gonna try doing this myself, I'm ordering a CORSAIR Hydro X Series, XL8, Performance Coolant, 1L, Clear which is $19.99 on amazon.
Rmd it
Rma I mean
@@paulshadowsx
have you changed the lıquıd any difference my friend
some people got a replacement and the replacement failed again after some time. it is a design flaw.
Why do you use antifreeze?
anti corrosive
I was looking at adding another rad to the loop. Do you think it would work?
I'm thinking about cleaning up a 360r rad and adding it to my custom loop so the built in pump can boost the flow
Edit: Specifically I'm talking about bashing 3 different AIO's with new tubing into a Frankenloop
mine has died after 4 months, temps reached 107c before the computer crashed, not happy at all, had to buy a replacement and this time i will register it with msi, i may do a tear down of the old unit and keep as a spare for when the next one clogs up
edit:
just found out msi will not replace to uk customers, makes you want to walk away from msi
Sames, I was hitting 70 while playing games but I didn't wanna open it or buy a new one but now my PC is just shutting off due to the heat
thanks for uploading this video, im gonna try it with my 240r because msi and the store where I bought it didn't want to make my warranty valid. F**k MSI
Rather than mixing your own coolant you'd be better off buying proprietary. I bought a 1 litre bottle of XSPC Pure Premix Distilled off a UK dealer for £7.
Nirvana CHIPMUNKS AT HIGH SPEED!
I bought this one last year and had issue with it 5 month i couldnt play anything on my pc
My fault that i trusted Msi
The problem is the copper on the CPU end and the aluminum radiator. Copper and aluminum react with each other. That's what that gunk in the cooler was.
nope your wrong the problem is the coolant bro its building a soimething that block the pump
I bet the factory that manufacture those AIO radiators are located just beside a brewery and they are tapping on their used water just to say they are eco-friendly LOL
Today i drained all that dirty shit from inside .alot of dirty little aliens ware there.anyway .i puted back normal regular water .to be honest works fine now
Sewer water :)
Regret buying this. Stopped working after 6 months. Temps were reaching 90c! After some research heard there were callbacks.
Well, oh boy, got my pc a year ago installed that exact cooler.
Ran very good for like 3-4 month then this crackling noise started. Say after day it grew to the point where I start my pc and the temps are off the charts reaching 80C, If I try to launch a game it spikes up to 95 then 100 and shuts down.
I returned it to the shop where I bought it from and they replaced it off warranty which I didn't want.
Again, 3-4 month later here I am with another failed pump raging my lungs out and really frustrated with this kind of unprofessionalism from msi and their shitty overpriced coolers that mount to nothing
I have the exact same situation and was worried about this. If I get a replacement I don't want this to happen again. Its baffling they won't just make a repair to the product design.
@@mayh3xx Yep well ended up replacing it with a cooler from master cooler, f msi not buying shit again from them
Looks like they filled it with chunky chicken soup. It's best to have the tubes at the bottom of the rad if possible, less chance of air getting trapped. Looks like it would reach OK in your case.
2 videos in 4 days? You're spoiling is dawg.
I think it was a tad short when I tried to do it that way.
Don't mean to jump in but the pump being in the radiator itself eliminates the need for a respective location. If the pump was in the block you would be correct.
I left the video once I saw him use the drill.....
The pump being in the radiator is also and idiotic design. That puts the pump at the top of the loop. All around just a screw up and they got me for my $$$. Like many others cuz I believe their lil recall page was fake in the first place. Haven't heard anyone's serial # actually qualify for the recall.
I have this junk AIO, and you know it's not egligable for a recall, yet my CPU is throttling. Absolute garbage. I think I'm just gonna replace with with corsair elite capellix and RMA this garbage.
Jesus this is way to much paste on this CPU
Piece of junk mine died in 2 weeks msi customer service is terrible not buying anything in future from msi
16:50 just realized that’s Nirvana 🥲
