Those Legend cars are tough to drive. I attended the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville many times and my father-in-law James Arnold would come down from Greenville SC with the Living Legends group and a half dozen cars. I met David Pearson and in my second year someone didn't show up and I was asked if I would (and could) drive one of the cars in the parade (the #51) What a thrill! It was quite an experience. It had been 40 years since I drove a car with no power steering. I couldn't believe how much "play" was in the steering. Also how stiff the clutch was. Within 20 minutes and shifting about 50 times I got a cramp in my calf. I had a whole different perspective in them driving "back in the Day". I can't imagine driving them like Dawson just did. Glad everybody is OK.
Do you know why you crashed? I ask because there’s a little story about it. The Formula 1 street circuit in Detroit had concrete barriers by the edge of the track all around. In the race, Ayrton Senna touched one of those hard enough to break the suspension. He walked back from the accident to the pits and, when he got there, the technical director of the team asked him why he crashed. He said that “It’s impossible I hit the wall. The wall moved”. Everybody laughed silently like “yeah, sure it did”. Like they were huge concrete blocks. By the end of the race, they agreed to go back there and, surprisingly, they found out that the wall had moved. What happened was that someone had hit the far end of the block and pushed it, which made the leading edge come out a few millimeters. Senna was driving with such precision that those few millimeters, and I’m talking probably ten millimeters, were enough for him to hit the wall that time rather than just miss it.
Damn that was fun! The entire race I was clinching when you navigated the final turn and I’ll be damned if you didn’t do what I kept worrying you might do.
Superb drive.. It was a sudden impact and i was not expecting it..lol I watched your right leg come up and i was hoping it did not get slammed side to side and break it, glad you walked away. Any accident where you go home that night is a good accident..
Thanks for sharing your videos, nice job wheeling your car! The way they setup that corner with those tires on drivers left looks super sketchy...honestly it should have been done differently. Glad you were ok. How do you like the FZ09 on the road course?
Thank you, it was a bad ending to a good race but I’ve started to like the fz09s honestly, the power band is super snotty and they sound awesome going down the front stretch in 5th gear
Hey mate unlucky with the tires, it was good race up to that point! Do you ever find the need to use the clutch on the way down in these fz09s? I'm coming from the old 4 cylinder engine and we always had to clutch on the way down, so I'm just curious as I haven't had a chance to test the new car yet.
I honestly haven’t ever really used the clutch in the legends cars. It’s a little awkward to do on downshifts since you have to blip the throttle but becomes pretty easy and consistent once you get it down

I want that shift ability in my dwarf car, amazing race!! I knew those tires were going to bite someone sooner or later...at least you're okay!

Glad Dawson is okay
What quick-shifter do you have here?
Do you recommend it or a better one? I just picked up a 2022 FZ09 car last month and want to add a QS to it.
Wow, too bad,,, looked like a top 3 win for sure
