Synth V is so good, better than Vocaloid and Crypton-loids I've known in terms of "as human-sounding as possible" I guess, Yuyoyuppe used Synth V too (Natsuki Karin - Sick) and it sounds so human. However, for all its goodness, Miku's Vocaloid2 robot voice will always have a special place in my heart, it made cute song cuter and creepy song creepier.
This type of voice is what Vocaloid aimed at the beginning, with the technology they had at the time. But now we have LOTS of realistic synthetizers (Synth V, Cevio AI, etc), to what Vocaloid now try to NOT go to the same path. They now have the idea of being slightly robotic (now on purpose), as to not lose the older users and continue being a difference on the market. I'm pretty sure I read something about Crypton NOT going (and never wanting to) with a ultra realistic Miku, but I don't have the source on me, so take that with a grain of salt

It seems to take a lot more skill to make VOCALOID sound good, although it adds a lot of individuality I haven't seen with other software so I do prefer it in that sense.
Vocaloid can emulate the same levels of realistic voice reproduction. (Just depends on how much the producer tunes the voices, that's how we have several flavors of Miku for example.) People just don't do it often, they feel like it detracts away from the core of what it means to be a voice synth/vocaloid. That's also why allot of people like extremely rough vocaloids like Kaito. I can't name some songs on the top of my head since I personally don't prefer them either, but I have come across allot of indistinguishable ones, especially from KAFU and NEUTRINO, they've been tuned like that for years now.

From what I know the "tuning" part comes from the AI in the software. So it's an AI voice database with the voice of Miyamai Moca.
