@@DarkC0re514 Depends on the games you want to play and other personal goals. I can give up on a few games and play lighter ones on 40 fps with very good battery life because I already have a gaming pc if I want actual performance and competitiveness. I also have been meaning to get into learning Linux for years and the Steam Deck appeared out of nowhere and I immediately made up my mind lol. I have tinkered with it a lot since I have bought it and used its desktop mode for educational purposes and sometimes use it as an actual laptop on campus. I had many difficulties with Linux but I have learned a lot since then and maybe even consider switching to it fully in the future. I also actively use the trackpads and back buttons which offer practically endless combinations of commands you can assign to them. To summarize: I had very specific interest for stuff on Steam Deck that other handhelds don't offer right now.
Legion or Deck, Asus has proven time and time again they cannot be trusted to ever do the right thing in software and in repairing devices, ask anyone about armoury crate or old Asus devices, Lenovo has always had better support, part availability, and valve will support the deck longer than either
For Cyberpunk, mouse gyro is way better than stick gyro. It's much more precise and Cyberpunk doesn't have any issues with mixing gamepad with mouse inputs.
@@ultimategohan1551 It entirely depends on the game. It's always best to test mouse gyro first to see if it works. You'll know pretty quickly if it doesn't. If it doesn't work then switch to joystick gyro. Some games are just programmed to accept mixed inputs just fine and others like to lock inputs or others have them fight each other in weird ways. But Cyberpunk is a prime example of one that accepts mixed inputs without any major issues.
The extra back buttons was the tipping point for me so I have gone with the Legion Go (arriving tomorrow). I play regularly with the Xbox elite 2 controller and use all 4 paddles so the ROG wouldn't work for my use.

I’m not a PC gamer, coming from Nintendo switch. How do I simplify all of this? It sounds very technical. And I want the specs to be able to change based on being docked or handheld. Is that possible? I think I’m going to always want turbo when I’m plugged in. That’s logical, right? But coming from a Nintendo, switch, and handheld mode. I’m not really going to care. @chrisrobinson3494 noone knows the exact chance of it failing. It is an overheating issue and this cannot be fixed unless you redesign the device entirely. Thank for the video it really help me with my decision.
Personally I love gyro. Usually I do the big aiming with the stick and fine aiming with gyro. Think that is pretty much always the way to go for shooters while using a controller.
Love my Ally!
I got it for $399 (non-extreme) at Best Buy and the triple A titles that I own, run so smooth!
Does he know? 🥴
@@thatwasonce For $399 the regular Z1 is fine. Not like you can get a Steam Deck OLED for that price.
Isn't the non extreme worse than the steam deck performance wise?
Honestly the non extreme is good for older titles or indie games I don't get why people even w the extreme expect these devices to run the newest titles w highest settings w raytracing and everything else I'm js
Makes me so mad they didn't include a USB or thunderbolt port that could support an egpu. Maybe for the next refresh.
I wish there was a way around this somehow.
Got one under the Xmas tree, can’t wait!!!
I want to buy this but sd card issue is the only thing holding me back , 1tb ssd is so expensive and steam deck is not available in my country.
Loving mine so far. Initially pickup up a legion go but it just felt like too much of a concept vs a realistic handheld. The ally feels great in the hands and much better software.
Wait until something goes wrong and then reach out to ASUS and see how you like their customer service. 🤣
Nothing out of the ordinary will go wrong with it if you don't mistreat it. Anything that goes wrong with windows, can be fixed by the user. Don't misuse the hardware and you'll be fine
@@sages101how often does one speak to any customer service? I’m buying this to game not to speak to customer service 😂
@Enoc63 go ahead, it's your money.
@@sages101 yes and I have zero regrets :)
Since day 1 they released until now they improved alot glad i didnt sell mine
Have there been any manufacturing upgrades? I know there was an sd card issue, was that problem solved? The original z1 extreme that I got after launch had buttons that got jammed pretty easily and I guess that was due to the mass production so I was wondering if they addressed any of those issues after 6 months of release.
Yes the ones they've made after september, have all that sorted out now
Still debating on picking up a ROG Ally now or wait till a newer model comes out.
Cant update. Keeps hanging on connecting to internet and then says an update us already taking place when it isnt. Any tips
Now its hard for me to choose if oled steam deck or rog ally [new with fixed microsd] is better
I have both, and I’d say the Ally, even with a broke SD card reader.
@@daspotjoel even with? i see
@@DarkC0re514 Depends on the games you want to play and other personal goals.
@@thatwasonce eh legion screen is too big, but i agree about the asus/valve part , i dont really care about the software as im used to the worst
For Cyberpunk, mouse gyro is way better than stick gyro. It's much more precise and Cyberpunk doesn't have any issues with mixing gamepad with mouse inputs.
Is it only cyberpunk or would every game benefit from mouse instead of right stick?
@@ultimategohan1551 It entirely depends on the game. It's always best to test mouse gyro first to see if it works. You'll know pretty quickly if it doesn't. If it doesn't work then switch to joystick gyro.
Some games are just programmed to accept mixed inputs just fine and others like to lock inputs or others have them fight each other in weird ways.
But Cyberpunk is a prime example of one that accepts mixed inputs without any major issues.
This is gold 👌 ❤thanks
Im still torn between this and the Lenogo Legion Go
The Ally would have been a no Brainer if the battery life was better.
im very impatient so i purchased the rog ally. and the deal breaker for me is the asymmetrical shoulder bumpers of the legion go
I feel the Ally is the way to go right now. I’m a Go owner and I think I’m going to return mine for this or just wait for the next wave of handhelds.
The extra back buttons was the tipping point for me so I have gone with the Legion Go (arriving tomorrow).
I play regularly with the Xbox elite 2 controller and use all 4 paddles so the ROG wouldn't work for my use.
Ally is better
I’m returning the legion go
Debating on this or the Legion go, I like the form factor or the L.G but feel like the detachable controllers will give it a flimsy feel. Ally seems cool but windows without a atleast a track pad?
i just got the normal z1 and i installed all emulators i could find and loving this! i play god of war and i got 75fps which i think overkill. i only expected 30fps like every old games. haha! im in love! ❤❤🧡🧡💛💛💚💚💙💙
Hey man, what lens do you use with your GH6 ? Always love your videos
Does the gyro work on emulators? Specifically ryujinx and dolphin
Awesome I am excited about going to get this system tomorrow from Best Buy. I am getting the one that is $599
Hypr RX does not include Chill as Chill does not work together with RSR and Boost :D
what about the battery life?, is it better now on rog ally?, i am planning to buy rog ally z1 extreme next year
I have gone back and forth between the Go and Ally, but ultimately will be keeping the Ally. With the XG Mobile, it will be my desktop replacement for the next few years.
Just got mine, the standard z1 for super cheap best buy deal. Loving it!!! Mainly diablo player and its super super smooth!!
Just picked one up today for $399 is the performance bad for you ?
The new metrics overlay options is a nice addition
Now it's faster than 7840u but only a small margin Z1E is a binned APU by the way
Cyberpunk keeps crashing when I have Ray tracing on low how ironic I just heard you mention cyberpunk as I write this
YES YES YES !! I'm so happy I bought it
Great info thank you very much.
The best keep up the good update in the future
Im stuck. Currently its says connecting to internet. Then i tried it again and a message saying that there is another application being instaled try again later. Really frustrating.
Mine saids that too, I can't even download or update any Microsoft store apps, is that happening to you too?
yes... and after a while it says another application is being installed try again later.
sos grande viejo !!
Man I would so prefer to get this over the SD OLED, but the battery jump is so massive in demanding titles (1:15 vs like 2h) and don´t make me start on indies.
Sure, this new CPU boost seems to help, but it's still so far behind Valve's machine.
Have the micro sd issue been fixed yet or its a rog ally issue i got an excellent condition one on black Friday at best buy but haven't opened it yet.... need answers before i put this sandisk a2 1tb micro sd in there.
I’m going to prioritize, latency and frame rate. Although I think 30 should be just fine for most games as long as I don’t have screen sharing.
Armory crate update is broken, tried everything
Man i feel like the people hating on the rog ally all already spent their money on a steam deck and are pissedddd haha. Thank god i just got a rog a few days ago
You are exactly right they're all down and out wishing that they got this instead and waited all I got to say to them is suckers 🤣🤣🤣
Will you test the gyro with emulation? Games like Zelda and Firefox.
I love my Rog Ally but I'm still to scared to put anything near the MSD slot!
Same I only use the SD card to transfer files lol then take it out.
Perhaps they can sell a new backplate with metal in the center to better dissipate heat, as an optional purchase.
I got to say this is making me happier and happier I chose the ally. Yeah my SD card slot is broken but 4 TB of SSD is plenty for me. It has happily played almost every game I have thrown at it and it plays them all really well
My SD card slot is fine because I didn't try to run games from it and I never use anything above 30w on charger. Diminishing return starts at 28w
Snd it to RMA it will be fixed for good
I wish I would of went with the 4TB I got the 2TB and I only have about 260GB left of free space. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@Droideka666what happens do they just send you a new one or do they actually fix the issue on the motherboard ?
@@Ziyoblader they fix it. But they replace the motherboard sometimes.
Man i love this machine - best 700 ive ever spent
For some reason I can't enable raytracing on some games . Like RIPOUT as an example
I just use chimeraos…but This update is awesome. I have now ordered the minisforum um780xt and am now undecided about switching back to Windows with the rog ally
I love your husky wrist
GYRO SELLS THIS FOR ME. The ease of use with Game Pass had me on the fence and now I’ve been pushed far in.
I'm strongly considering ROG Ally, and I'm impressed by ASUS Support, but I can't find any answer regarding SD Card issue. Is issue with frying SD cards fixed in latest models, or is it still a problem?
Apparently not a problem with the new models
So do any of these updates repair the biggest problem with this device, a faulty SD card reader?
No, they don't. Its still a lottery whether you will have this issue
Asus been found the fix for it. My reader works perfectly fine
So its a 50/50 chance you'll have a "reader" problem, thanks for the replies.
@chrisrobinson3494 noone knows the exact chance of it failing. It is an overheating issue and this cannot be fixed unless you redesign the device entirely. Asus issuing software fixes is a bullshit solution. If it breaks, they will simply tell you to send it into them and give you another Ally in the hope that this will be fine. People are still having this issue in new Allys. Completely unacceptable. NEVER had an SD card fail in any other device
@FunFactsAboutTech I also thought myself, that you couldn't fix the "reader" problem through a software update, it's a hardware problem, the only way to really fix it is to change location of the reader AWAY from exhaust fan.
I've followed you since the begin8ng. You've helped me out early in the hyperspinish days. Now I bo7ght the most expensive rog ally lol because you made it look fun. Here's a video you need to make. Android os on rog and batocera- or linux os..windows stuff is easy for this retrobat attractmode etc . I want android and android games on this roo. I heat there's a way..well what are you waiting for lol.. im.happy to mod mine if you'll help with what software im pretty good at pc stuff.
Odin 2 Max is almost 500 bucks, wondering if i should get the ROG Ally instead? Any input would be appreciated
Does dual booting Steam OS work on the Ally? Or Chimera?
I’m so on the fence of a switch or a rog ally. Are we still dealing with SD card issues on the ROG because that’s the only thing holding me back
New models are fixed but those are two completely different hand held. They don’t even compare….
How is it as a general day to day Windows machine?
Still no update to fix the cooked SD cards ?
Hi.. I would like to know the update on your ssd if there’s any issues I been thinking about upgrading mine.
I love my ROG ALLY but I am having a problem. My left thumb stick wasn’t working and I swapped it with the right and it worked on the right side so my question is .. is my thumbstick controller bad on that side? The rgb works on the left side when plugged in. Someone please help!
Can anyone answer: when a windows 12 comes out will that be included with the asus update or will we have to pay for the windows update to continue playing future games?
So I uninstalled Armoury Crate SE because it wouldn't update and it would always give me an error, and now I can't install armoury crate at all. I just downloaded handheld companion and g helper and set both the armoury crate button to open g helper and the other buton to change to mouse mode.
If anyone here knows why armoury crate doesn't install please let me know. I would like to have the oem software installed if possible.
I want Linux, but unfortunately, Steam Deck isn't available where I live.
ETA, or commenters - how are the Steam OS alternatives working on the Ally so far? I'm seriously thinking of just getting the Ally and installing something there... Chimera, Nobara, HoloISO, I dunno which is working better right now.
Too bad no 32gb option
I hope rog ally 2 gives that choice and great perf
The ROG Ally 2 will definitely get a noticeable performance boost. Buyer's remorse is a b*tch.
ASUS's track records show yearly iterations of their products; I have no reason to believe that the Ally is an exception, even if they give it a 'minor' refresh.
Only buy something you're sure of, no adhd-havin-ass impulse buying.
There's is a modder that is doing a 32gb upgrade for 295 and also a battery upgrade too. He's got the whole process on RUclips.
@@austintse5719 that's what I love about these devices, but most users don't have the tools/experience to upgrade these devices. Soldered ram is a b*tch to get out.
