It still looked really good Hard to tell the difference in the video. But now what's your New colors and what you did to the truck. You did an amazing job. Thank you for all your videos you put online. It really helps us
@@DarcMarques-nd6nz thanks. Right now is Khaki Gloss Green. I have a made a few videos of wrapping it this color. I will probably remove it this year at some point
What color paint did you use and where did you get a problem? Have the exact same truck as you and white. Also, what kind of vinyl did you get? Is it closs white
I bought GM summit white paint from a Canadian Automotive store for the grill. The fog light bezels are covered in Avery Gloss White. It isn’t a perfect match at all
Hey Don, I know this is an older video of yours, but do you think it's possible to also paint the mesh part of this overlay? Picked up the gloss black overlay and hoping to do white with red mesh. But not sure paint will stick to the mesh. Ideas?
Hey luke, it is totally paintable, but prep could be tedious. You’ll want to scuff it all up with some scotchbright or 400 grit sand paper. Then clean the dust off with a tack cloth. I’d probably spray the red first, let it dry and then mask it for the white sections. Then clear coat all of it for some protection
Noice. Going to try it on my mirrors first since GM considers Pacific Blue a custom color so it's not available in mirror caps option. Make sure it matches the truck, cheaper to buy caps than the grill.
WA8624 Summit white. Olympic White was used and has the same paint code. The amount of layers of base coat and clear coat used can make a difference too.
Big Fan of your DIY upgrades to your AT4. I just installed mine and had to trim out an area for my front end camera. The front camera picks up some of the grill in the display. Do you have the same issue? Or how did you manage to get around it? Thanks in advance. J.C.
Hey Jonathan! I see a tiny bit of the overlay too through the front camera. I don’t think there is a way around it. I have been living with it and it hasn’t been a bother.
@@Donslife thanks for the quick reply. I figured the overlay was going to be something I’d have to live with. Glad I’m not the only one. All in, the grill looks great. I even installed the same led GMC logo you have. Thanks again for doing your vids.. they are extremely helpful. Couldn’t accomplish my own DIY’s without them.
Don, I think you said you used wire ties instead of the 3M tape. I bought one for my AT4 as well, but can’t figure out how to get the wire ties in and back out since I can’t get my hand behind it. How’d you do it?
I fold the cable ties so they are ‘C’ shaped and patiently feed them in from the front. They need to be pretty long, otherwise take off the tray in the engine compartment and have a helper with skinny arms get to them from behind the grill

Did you prime before painting? I scuffed with an 800 scuff pad and wiped with 70% alcohol before painting. Painted 4 coats of rustoleum custom auto paint. 2 days later I pulled the tape and went to blow off any dust with the air hose before clearing and when I hit it with the air hose the paint started flying off. Must have done something wrong.
Yes the video shows the plastic primer I used (adhesion promoter), then the paint, then some layers of clear over the white. The plastic primer applies clear
You can usually google a the paint code and color and some companies have popular colors ready to go. Also some paint shops can make anything you need in a spray can too
Lol. Yep WA8624 Olympic White. Now that it is cured it looks like a match. It helps that the painted pieces doesn’t touch any factory painted parts too
Take your time and mark the area with a sharpie or tape so you don’t cut more off than you need. I started with a tiny cut out and then made it a little bigger after a couple test fits
So I made a good cut for the camera, but I used black spray paint on the sanded areas and I should have used touch up paint. With that being said, I ordered a new one and it arrived today. I’ll cut my hole for the camera again, and use the gloss black touch up paint and let you know how it goes. For anyone else that needs the grille overlay and plans on painting it, I have one for sale😂
I live in Canada so a place called Nintestore.com. In the US I have seem them on amazon.com and gr1performance.com. I would have order from gr1, but shipping, duties and our dollar conversion made it too expensive.

Your channel has single handedly inspired me to get it tf in on this Jeep I just got!
Kind words! I appreciate it!
very sharp finally have been able to purchase a truck and you have been great with the ideas i like that a lot better then what you had before
Bro that is fly as heck!!
Man what a great idea! I bought the exact same overlay and installed it as all black. Yours looks great!
Thanks Greg!
Where do you order it from? I have the black 1500 AT4 and I would love the black mesh grill.
That looks amazing. So clean. 👌🏼 I’m shopping for a white at4 and I’ll be copying this for sure if I can find the paintable grill overlay
Awesome 👏

what was your trucks paint code?and what dupli color did u get? mine is an abalone white and none of the dupli color spray cans looked close enough
WA8624 Summit white. Olympic White was used and has the same paint code. The amount of layers of base coat and clear coat used can make a difference too.
That looks clean!! 🔥
Thanks Rony!

This is awesome I have the same truck what clear coat did you use?
Thanks Brady, nothing special used. Just a spray can of Dupli color clear coat.
looks great Don!
Ya it is probably the only one that looks like this around my area! Mission accomplished
That looks the way it should of come from factory👍
Totally
It actually does on the elevation model
Did a color match on my grille surround on my Denali. Looks so much better
Agreed!
Looks awesome!
Thank you Adam 🙏🏻

I use a plastic primer or adhesion promoter
That looks awesome! Where did you get the white GMC emblem? I have the exact same truck.
Nevermind.. found the video where you wrapped it..
All good!
Did you use the primer or just the duplicolor white? Also did you use a clearcoat over the base white?
Yes the video shows the plastic primer I used (adhesion promoter), then the paint, then some layers of clear over the white. The plastic primer applies clear
@@Donslife awesome, it looks great!
Thanks Dan! It still looks brand new each time I wash it too
Very nice man! where did you get the grill overlay? I just scooped a black AT4 and thinking of same in black
Thanks Chris! Do you live in Canada or US?
US
gr1performance.com/product/2019-2020-gmc-sierra-1500-only-fits-at4-and-slt-2pc-black-overlay-grille/
Many thanks!!
@@Donslife Hello! I live in Canada & would love to know where you got your grill overlay :) Please
So your just going to stick it on over the factory grill with 3-M tape?
I know right? Actually when you see it first hand, it will make sense. But there are spots in the mesh you can use cable ties and not even see them.
@@Donslife huh, I would have never thought that! Love the videos. Very informative 👍
Do you know if they sell any white ones for the 2020 GMC Denali? Or is it only for the AT4?
All of I have seen for Denali requires painting. I hade to paint mine white too. It was only available in black and chrome for the AT4 and SLT
I really like it!
Thanks Craig!
Looks Great
Thanks!
Love the black n white... mine being a denali mine is all chrome.. 😞
I was considering doing something black and white with a Denali grill. 🤔
Wish they made a black n white overlay for the Denali to cover up the chrome! 😀
How did you get color match paint in a spray can ?
You can usually google a the paint code and color and some companies have popular colors ready to go. Also some paint shops can make anything you need in a spray can too
Hey Don looks great. Did you use Olympic White? Cant seem to find Summit White in Dupli-Color.
Never mind. I saw the UPC label on the can....lol
Lol. Yep WA8624 Olympic White. Now that it is cured it looks like a match. It helps that the painted pieces doesn’t touch any factory painted parts too
Crispy Clean
That looks awesome! Where does a guy go to get that paint at? I’d love to do something like this to mine!
I used Duplicolor which is available at several automotive stores. In Canada, I went to Canadian Tire.
Looks Good
Thanks Steve! I wasn’t sure how it would look in person.
Where did you get the overlay grill from?
Ninte - heard it is tougher to track down compared to when I got mine
What did you use to cut the hole for the camera
I used a rotary tool with a cutting wheel or a Dremel.
Ok thanks. Got my grill in today. Trying to do what I can by myself. I’ll pick up the tool today
Take your time and mark the area with a sharpie or tape so you don’t cut more off than you need. I started with a tiny cut out and then made it a little bigger after a couple test fits
