@@daffhead4975 in fact, ryzen cpus barely make heat. They are really efficient, with tdp's that don't reach 100w in the biggest cpu.

    In other words:
    1. Upgrade your BIOS ASAP.
    2. Tune your Ryzen CPU core voltage. 1.375v daily for me.
    3. Tune your RAM to higher frequencies. 3200mhz is usually the most you need.
    4. Tune your CPU frequency.
    5. Profit(in most cases)

I'm currently on 1.375v aswell. Well, under load. I can tell you however ryzen master is only nice to tune your OC profile, but don't actually use it afterwards, because it doesn't apply the OC at startup, which is kind of a waster, isn't it?

Finished my very first build for my home system and it was very fun to do myself. I selected everything myself and put it all together, with that said there are some things I have questions about and if you have some time maybe you can advise me.
    My System
Case Lian Li Lancool II With HDD/SSD Hot SWAP KIT for 3 Bay Drive (Sandisk and 2 WD SSD Drives), MOBO MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, CPU Ryzen 7 3700X, GPU Gigabyte RX5700XT, RAM kit 32gb Corsair (2x16) 3200mHz, Cooler NOCTUA NH-U12S Chromax Black with 1 NOCTUA FAN, Power Supply EVGA 650 GA 80+gold modular, System WIN 10 on M.2 Samsung 970 Evo SSD 1TB, SanDisk Ultra SATA II 1TB, WD SSD Black 2TB Mech Drive, WD SSD Black 3TB Mech Drive, Corsair RGB FAN Kit with Controller (3 FANS Front INTAKE), 2 NOCTUA Fans Top Back of case (Exhaust), 1 NOCTUA Fan Back TOP (Exhaust).
I have all Bios and Chipsets installed and updated running a valid Windows 10.
    Problems I have had and questions;
    - Had issues getting my Bios Ram Speed to reflect the 3200mhz kit I have and only by changing in advanced Bios to DDR4 3133mhz was it able to change from 2133mhz. So I guess that issue is solved.
    - TEMPERATURES while I am writing this my Radeon Software shows Temps now are (32C) and very quiet), if I play other games it can go as high as 85c and with one game in particular the game will crash to my desktop telling me that the temps are too hot for my GPU.
Heaven Benchmark results are : FPS 230.8, Score:5814, Min FPS 53.1 Max FPS 425.9
GAME SPACE ENGINEERS after 44min GPU 99%, VRAM 91%, CPU 15%, RAM 33%, TEMPS 68c, Junction TEMP 87c and higher Temps causing the game to fail.
I played this game on my 11 year old Computer with simply Lag not crashing, so not sure why this game is struggling with my new system.
FANS never seem to ramp up speed, they seem to stay very silent. The Radeon Software for my GPU only allows me to set GPU Fans currently running at 2174 showing 34c Temp, but all other fans I seem to not know how to control but I do know they never ramp up even in that game crash I never noticed any change in Fan Speeds. Running ICUE software but it is unclear if it does anything other than RGB Settings for my Case RGB Fans, Keyboard and Mouse. I have not dove deep into my motherboard BIOS for Fan Control, but my question is With the error of Heat being a issue with 1 game and my GPU and or CPU Socket and not hearing any ramping up of FANS how can I check this properly to avoid damage to my system. It feels cool, all exhaust is cool I do not feel any heat coming from my system, fans are steady, it would be nice to know how to check my installed fans and control them. I guess this is where I could use some advice.

After building a system you always update bios first within the bios itself.
    so...
    1. Bios update.
    2. install windows, + update windows to latest version.
    3. Remove windows services such as Telemetry, Xbox, (if you don't use a printer Spooler service) and many others.
    4. Now get the latest updates and Drivers,
Drivers for things like: Cpu, Chipset, M.2, Monitor, mouse & Keyboard, Gpu, in short.. Any and all hardware you install there are drivers for it. just make sure you have the latest versions.
5.Back to bios make sure everything is set properly XMP profile, perhaps even make a overclock. just make sure you don't overclock before hand because it can cause issues when installing windows although it is highly unlikely.
i would never recommend Software overclocking in terms of Ram and Cpu, always do it through bios its not hard to learn, just grab your manual most of the information is there.
as for GPU just get the manufacturers OC tool and check temps and artifacts.
As for ryzen, my 1600 scores in cinebench R15 1305 with OC of 4ghz. single core score of 160. (imo this is pretty low can be much higher).
    right now i run a i9 9900k @ 5ghz with score of 2218 with single core score of 227

As far as I know is you have to use a win7 USB image tool that adds MVMe and USB 3 support to build a bootable USB setup drive and it should be good.
The problem is most of the ryzen boards and win 7 won't recognize the mouse and keyboard during setup nor M.2 MVMe drives if you are using one so you get locked out and can't install. Had this issue on my nephews 6700K. I found the gigabyte win7 USB 3 support tool to be they only one that works, all others I tried failed. With the tool you can add an NVMe driver folder to the tools directory and it automatically adds it in to win 7.

After installing it and setting the power plan to the Ryzen high performance one I finally got rid of the annoying temperature spikes. They're still there to some degree but not as annoying as before. Before it would idle at ~39C and just for a second jump to high 40s, over 50, sometimes over 60... This made the fans speed up all the time... Now it only balances between ~39C and ~47C, which is normal for 3rd gen Ryzen as far as I know

It depends on your gpu and your resolution. A youtuber, Hardware Unbox, did an awesome test on ryzen performance with different memory speeds while pairing it with a 1060, 1070, 1080 ti's and it showed that mid range gpu' like rx 580 and 1060 6gb do not benefit memory speeds, a gtx 1070 gets very small boost depending on the game, and a 1080 ti gets a slight boost. This was all tested in 1080p gameplay btw. Memory speed will not affect 1440p and 4K gameplay as these resolutions focuses on GPU power.

Just a heads up, if they try to claim voided warranty for overclocking, you can successfully fight back with consumer law. This is especially the case in Australia. Besides, overclocking should never damage your hardware within the life of the product. Unless you're doing LN2, or the liquid cooler leaked, but that has nothing to do with overclocking, and more to do with the cooler.

You can run windows 7 64 like i do. The set up was relatively easy. Get an old round end mouse (not usb) and you will be able to use it with a usb or DVD iso version of Win7-64, with the option of choosing a virtual keyboard that win7 gives you on its loading pages. You need to have the mouse because the mouse drivers wont be correct for you am4 board. Then go to amd and download the win7 loading aid you will need to use. The whole process is relatively easy. After that load in your drivers from the mobo manufacturer and then download and use I/O bits : DriverBooster and it will search out all the drivers you will need to upgrade if any. I always have a standard list of utilities that need to get uploaded after any OS reformatting and HD wiping, so make a utility folder and have whatever you need to reinstall like drivers for your printer, MSI afterburner, Hw monitor, Hand Brake, your gpu drivers, Fraps, DDU, Jzip (do a custom install and never put allow their bloatware in by unchecking every checked box), your browser and Chrome (a must occasionally), and any other programs you use so you can run the exe file setup files from your utility folder and keep it on a thumbdrive. If you dont upgrade the bios you may not get as high a ram speed and have other issues, but get it set up and running first.

I'm planning to get Ryzen 3 1300x with maybe a GTX 1060 3GB or RMX 470/480.. Which GPU should i go for? Also which MOBO is the best one to pair up with my CPU? The ASUS Prime B350 PLUS or the Msi B350?

Jamie P Yes, the chipset drivers are like a normal program. Click the file and follow prompts. No extra fiddling necessary. As you said.

Linux user, old man, occasional gamer but mostly not.
I'd agree with all of that.
I would add a comment that overclocking is a bit like tuning your car or motorbike. You don't have to actually buy any parts (at least to start with) but you are messing with stuff and if you don't know what you're doing, the rods are going to pop out and say "Hello." through the side of the block.
All Ryzen CPUs are unlocked. That means you can overclock them.
The ones that have an 'X' in the name, cost a bit more, and they have a built in automatic widget that overclocks some cores, on an "as needed" basis, to help your performance. It's a fairly mild and conservative overclock, but you don't have to go messing about in the BIOS (EUFI) shit yourself. And it works when needed, and underclocks when the CPU is idle, to save power and temp. It is a good thing, but whether it's worth $100 extra on your CPU is for you to decide.
Intel have a kind of ring-bus arrangement inside their CPU, for core-to-core coms and talking to main system memory and so on. Pretty much everything goes through it and it runs at exactly the clock-speed of the CPU itself. Ok. AMD came up with a thing called Infinity Fabric, which performs much the same function. And the Infinity Fabric scheme can be extended beyond the motherboard - main RAM system, take in all the PCI lanes, and the back plate and the other boards... It is a scaleable system, and it does ease the building of servers and server farms and data centres and supercomputers... Infinity Fabric works at the clock-speed of the memory. It's designed that way. So clocking up an Intel chip memory will speed up the memory a bit, but clocking up the memory on Ryzen speeds up all sorts of things inside the CPU that are related to memory, but have wider impacts, like core-to-core communication... This is why getting fast memory and clocking it up as high as it will work, is going to make far more difference to a Ryzen based system than an Intel one. You don't have to, but it will help. Clock up the memory on an Intel system, and you get faster memory. Clock up the memory on a Ryzen system, and it's not just the memory that gets sped up.

I ended up sending back my nice looking RGB RAM for the fugly Flare X RAM because it was close to guaranteed to work being on the Ryzen-certified list and all my QVLs. Flare X RAM and that Noctua fan gave my rebuild a couple of swipes with the ugly stick, but everything works properly.

    I'm currently running a r5 1400 @3.95ghz 1.4125v
Would it be safe to bump the voltage even higher to try a stable 4ghz oc?
I have an aio, so temps won't be an issue. I dont care much about the lifespan, as long as it's at least a couple of years, since i'll upgrade to zen2 later.

CPU will hold on within those temperatures and for as long as you won't set it 1.4V 7/24. But be aware, that CPU is not the limitation, with such OC and especially if you have high Mhz DDR4 - take a look and monitor power section on your MOBO as those VRMs can get pretty hot ... where by pretty hot I understand "you can boil water on them".

Azuan Atoya don't use auto voltage. I'm running ryzen 1600 on 3.9 with 1.32 volts and 40C idle and up to 65-75 load, 85 max full load.
