My theory with the Red Phazon of Tallon IV is that it's basically "Rotting." We know Phazon is alive in some capacity even if it may not be organic in the way we understand it. Compared to the Leviathans and Phaaze, the Impact Crater feels like it's somehow infected and dying as a result of being sealed away. Yet, while the necrotic body rots away, healthy Phazon manages to seep into the outside world and Metroid Prime runs amok.
A cool detail I loved about the Galactic Federation creating their own PED weapons is that despite managing to gain this advantage the Space Pirates managed to work around this quickly with weapons like those Phazon grenades you mentioned in the video, and you even see the effects these same grenades have on a PED Trooper on the GFS Vallhala where his backpack was overloaded and you can see these Phazon Tendrils sprouting out from his ded body
I always wondered, how would Phazon interact with the X parasites. In fact I always wanted to see Phazon versions of the Metroid suit and the Fusion suit
Since it's organic, the X could mimic it, but phazon is also alive and actively corrupts other living beings, so the x parasite would probably get corrupted
It is assumed they too would fall under its influence because metroids are higher up on the food chain and even they are vulnerable. Metroids can absorb any energy for themselves be it artificial or biological, but cannot for phazon without corruption. The X stand no chance unless they possess a being with a PED device but even then it can backfire.
Phazon might not be that unique. Going with the idea of "Spirit of a planet". Phazon might be a reoccuring aspect not discussed within Metroid Lore itself. Aeion appears to be something similar. a planetary energy that can cause mutations, be used as a powerful energy source and can be used to mess with space/time (Phase Drift). Then we also have the Light of Aether itself. Another energy source unique to a planet, this one isn't mutegenic, but is enough to replace the need of a sun to sustain life and power a technologically advanced species. It makes me wonder if the Bions were onto something similar with their Amplification Beam, as it seemed like something local to the area. So the question I am asking myself, is this just a trait of the Metroid Universe? planets having a sort of radiant life-energy to them that directly effect their inhabitants?
The issue is that this is not at all consistent. When Phaaze died, Phazon died with it. When SR388 died, Aeion didn't give the slightest. Though of course, I guess how Metroids work is not consistent between games either, so idk.
@@lpfan4491 Maybe different planets have different versions of this "living energy" with each planet having a unique spin on it. For some the energy is independent of the planet it comes from while others the energy can only persist as long as the planet does. In that way, all planets in the Metroid universe have the potential to generate a self-sustain energy source that makes the planet itself "sentient" but it takes time for planets to go that route. Aether and Phaaze are _old_ planets, thus had a long time for them to "mature" until they generated their own energy sources, but all kinds of different factors; place in the universe, mutagenetic properties, energy interaction and even a sense of "morals" can change how that energy is generated. So all planets _could_ do it, but they all do it their own way.
Another similar substance that came out pretty recently is the Coral from Armored Core 6. It's another very valuable and powerful substance that comes from only one planet, and is also sentient.
I personally find the substances of Ragnite from the Valkyria Chronicles series and Imulsion from the Gears of War series to be pretty conparable to Phazon. Ragnite: -A blue mineral substance that is mined for various purposes from fuel, medicine and other military applications in addition a select few are able to unlock powerful abilities from it in the case of the titular Valkyria. Immulsion: -A yellowish hazardous substance that was once mined heavily for fuel. Prolonged exposure to can lead to severe sickness, developing mutations, to eventually turn a living thing into a bloodthirsty monster in the form of the Lambent. It is ultimately revealed that Immulsion is part of a expansive living organism that nearly threatened all remaining life on Sera. In a little head canon of mine is that due Phazon's apparently effect on dimmesions as seen in Metroid Prime 2, what's to say that multiple leviathan metors could've crossed dimmesional boundries and landed on planets of other universes? Ragnite being one offshoot of a Phazon weakened strain that survived by being almost entirely benificial to life in its base form snd Immulsion bring another strain that evolved into a oure liquid gorm firvthe most part and still very hazardous to life.
Indomitable spirit. I mean, look at it this way. Samus is a walking petri dish considering how many different strands of DNA are in her and yet she hasn't mutated into a cancer cell. All that genetic splicing is kept in check by sheer willpower. She ain't even technically human anymore so the fact that a human mind has kept all that chaos in order is an amazing feat in of itself.
So funny you mention Dune and spice. As a game called Dune 2 and RTS made by Westwood would be their stepping stone into making a genre and specifically. Command and Conquer. And making the corrosive, corrupting crystal Tiberium. Phazon and Tiberium are even quite similar. Both are slowly terraforming planets. Both cause great agony to those infected driving most if not all insane and transforming Fauna and Flora. It is a hard substance to destroy, and both come from a Meteor. You can even argue that Dark Samus made the Space Pirates into a cult for Phazon like the Brotherhood of Nod. Heck Phazon even being kind of explosive fits specifically the Blue Tiberium properties. The only difference is that Tiberium originally comes from Blossom Trees and takes nutrients from the planet while Phazon just does its thing and that Tiberium pretty much starts as a crystal and then can be melted down while Phazon seems to be a crystal or a liquid. Oh and Phazon is sentient. Tiberium is not. Though it does have an alien race that relies on it like addicts.
Phazon was awesome. I'm glad it likely won't be returning in Prime 4 since I think Corruption capped off the Phazon arc nicely, but MAN it was fun while it lasted.
Phazon Reminds me of Imulsion from Gears of War or in this case the other way around since Phazon cam first. Diffrents is that Imulsion was takes time and ppl didint know it was a parasite till way to late, they kinda have same propertys, becoming liquite to crystal tho diffrents, Imulsion makes the host explode under damage or to infect new hosts or a last resort to kill the enemys
I do wonder if Gorea might be related to Phazon in some way. Its energy core is yellow rather than blue, but it can corrupt and even steal technology for its own ends. Moreover, Gorea came to the Alymbic Cluster on a meteor, if memory serves. Probably a stretch, but it would help better connect Hunters to the rest of the Prime games.
Why did samus suit turn black red in stsad of black blue in Metroid prime uno.? Red phazon was in that game too. It still hurt samus while she was immune to blue one. Red phazon might be the adult or full grown verson. The phaz planet we destroyed in MP3 was a baby. It was a planet that was corrupted by a laviathan into a baby phaz. Red is a sign of complete corruption. Dark samus was not compeltly corrupted as she took samus's red suite, making her immune the negative affects of blue phazon while reaping the benifitts. Just a theory
The red phazon being a result of the sealed impact crater makes sense. It wants to spread, but for the most part it can't because of the seal. So it keeps building up and mutating in the limited space
Anyone ever notice the similarities Prime has with Dead Space? Living planets(brethren moon) seeding other planets(with markers). Then the native species use the seed as a fuel source as it slowly corrupts everything on the planet. I’m not accusing anyone of copying anyone. I just thought the similarities were interesting.
I swear I heard someone say Metroid Prime isn't a Metroid, then ended the sentence like that, which was unhelpful, as I remember a part in Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, Dark Samus showed concern over the Metroid in cages, then quickly fled in a certain area.
it came from a leviathan, it is not really a metroid but probably took over a metroid. my understanding of the lore is that a metroid got corrupted and became the metroid prime. it is not clear how a metroid got in contact with the leviation, though, and the metroid prime lacks any resemblance to metroids. it seems more like an x-parasite, if anything, given its ability to copy Samus and become Dark Samus. it is difficult to completely throw out the connection to metroids, though, as we can find metroids in the metroid prime's lair in Metroid Prime. it just seems like whole mess of a narrative, to be honest, i am not sure if it is even worth trying to make sense of it.

Phazon shares a lot of similarities to tiberium from the Command and Conquer franchise. Both are extraterrestrial in origin, have a crystal and liquid form, mutate life around them, have a high energy output, used to make weapondry, and are highly toxic. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Dune’s spice was an inspiration for tiberium as Westwood Studios made a Dune game prior to making C&C 95.

I’d like to think that Phazon would mutate any X parasite that get too close and become another Phazon creature.
