I enjoyed your video. I really like that you talk fast. It was refreshing. I watched the whole thing without pausing or fast forwarding. I just didn't get the answer to what I was looking for. Since the latest qbo update, the sales tax liability report lists the state as well as the counties. I was wondering if I need to add the numbers together or is the state portion included with the county numbers?

You are so nice, thank you!! It depends on what state you are in and if you have a combo tax or not. If you email me kbunschoten@certumsolutions.com I am happy to help you find it and check.

Good afternoon, I had to go back to my clients sales and calculate sales tax that was not broken out, (a total fee was charged for the taxable service)and reduce the total sales and create the liability i have a sales tax payable but I dont have it listed to the NJ Div of taxation. Is this a journal entry fix to move it from one liability to the other or are there things in the system that need to be addressed?

You would need to fix it within the sales tax module so it will reflect correctly. Ledger entries usually won’t reflect in other modules.

@@CertumSolutions Thank you for your assistance since the sales transactions came through initially without the tax module being properly set up would i need to journal those sales?

I really like the expression bubbling idiot, it's way better than the more traditional babbling idiot- though this appears accidental it's so funny and charming in a way that I would encourage you to keep using this expression. :)

Hi Paul, it’s actually bumbling idiot that I usually say. I got it from my father. 😊

Good morning, my question is concerning tips received from clients, tips are nontaxable. When I enter the sales receipt, there is a section at the bottom of the sales receipt for tips. This is where I enter them. When I look at the sales tax liability report it shows the dollar amount that is nontaxable. Is there a report that will show me a list of the clients that paid the tips?? Also - where would the tip information go on the chart of accounts? I appreciate your time and look forward to your answer.

Hello! Depending on the state if the tips are mandatory they can be taxable. If the client can choose the amount to tip and it is blank it typically isn’t, but it depends on the state. Some states see mandatory tip charges as service fees and consider them taxable. (Oi) That being said, tips go to the Undistributed tips account on the Balance Sheet, so I would run a transaction detail by account keying off that account to see which tips were received. Does this help?
