Hello, greetings from Spain... I have many printer motors and DVD drives and it is worth getting some copper for me... it depends on the time each one has, I understand that someone who is dedicated to being a scrap dealer is not worth it and you're right, but for me, little by little in a year together several kilos of copper is extra money... congratulations on your channel I'm already subscribed... thank you
That's not the point mate, these are literally worth more to sell them as is than they are completely taken apart. Meaning that you don't get enough copper out of them to make a single cent over what you would get if you sold it as a motor. That's the problem. Thanks for watching 👍😊
Well, that's unfortunate, but good thing that you showed us that doing this kind of stuff is not worth it, thank you for that and great video, as always 👍
It certainly is, but you’re right, it’s a good thing to have a video about what not to do when scrapping, so people maybe don’t do this mistake. Thank you very much for watching 👍👍😊
Thank you 😊 It is really important to have the knowledge of what to just leave as is, as most people think you can add value to every scrap by processing it. Sadly not the case. Thanks for watching 😊👍
I actually scrap all the small transformers I get, they are very easy to do and have decent copper content, but those motors certainly aren't worth it at all, I will definitely sell them in the future. Thank you very much for watching 👍😊😊
I have recovered the copper out of that one motor that was a pain.but I don't do it for the money.i want to make some of those copper bars.i love your videos.
That's a good reason to do it for sure ! I also love casting copper bars, but I usually only do it with copper from wires. Thank you so much, I'm very glad you like the videos 😊😊👍
I stripped and saved over 800 lbs of bare bright copper I sold 2 years ago. I saved it to make ingots but decided to sell one day and I regret it ever since.
Hi everyone, I sell the motors on eBay to model makers. Maybe 10 at a time, they go. As for the copper rings, they look dead pretty with the different colourful copper you can find. You find blue, red yellow and copper. I sell them to arts and crafts customers. Again really good for selling. Thank you for the video.
That's really interesting, I always thought they looked so nice, I even hab one in my bedroom when I was a child. What a cool way to make money with them 👍👍😃
I was thinking what you just said. Sell just as motors. The small ones like this add up so, in the long run you make more just as they are in weight and no head aches....lol
I am saving all small motors and transformers and am going to build a small hammer mill. Water seperate the copper with junk wire and recover max copper.
I don't scrap the first motor, too hard for me but you made it look easy,I'll try again. The second motor I scrap just by unwinding each Coil, easy. Hey thanks for sharing, keep it up.
I really wouldn't, you are not going to make any money on them, they are worth the exact same amount scrapped out as they are as just a motor. With bigger motors, sure, that's usually worth it, but I would stay far away from those very small ones. Thank you very much for watching 😃👍👍
Unfortunately yes, that would mean it's aluminum. Happens sometimes, I would always scratch the windings before taking the motor apart, because you can still just sell it as a motor if it's aluminum. Thank you very much for watching 😊👍👍
Coming in 10 months late, but if you’re careful enough not to damage the wire, and can “unwind” the copper from the steel and keep it all in one continuous thread, that small diameter wire can sell for hundreds of dollars/pounds per kilogram on eBay. For example, 5 metres of 0.5mm diameter copper wire is around 10g, making it worth about USD $0.07. But that same small thread of copper wire could be sold on eBay for $4 or $5 to a craft person. That turns into a price per kilo of (USD) $400 - $500 a kilo. I scrapped some 1mm wire from a larger motor that gave me 4 x 100g rolls. Scrapping that, I’d get about USD $2.80 all up, but because I was careful to unwind it without damaging the wire, I have about USD $20 - $30 worth of wire that can be sold to a bonsai enthusiast, again resulting in me getting that same premium for doing minimal work. Sure, it took me an extra 30 - 40 minutes to carefully separate the wire from the motor without damaging the wire, but that’s still made me an effective “wage” of an extra $50 or $60 an hour (for doing something that can be done while watching RUclips videos).
Well, I guess one could do that, but how many could I do in an hour being that careful not to damage the wire? Maybe two? That's still only 8 bucks an hour. If one really has nothing better to do sure, maybe worth it, but not for making money, not with this size of motor. Thanks for watching 👍
Smashing is usually the answer, that's the problem, I think 😅😂 No, but really, if you would sit there and unwind that for like 20 minutes, highest respect for the incredible amount of patience, but that would barely be like 50 cents an hour. Better than nothing, that's for sure, but it doesn't really increase the value of the motor you already have, that's what we as scrappers always need to take into consideration. Thank you very much for watching mate 👍👍😊
Don't know where you're selling your copper, but for january this year I've 7,1€/kg under 1mm thick and 7,6€/kg over. Maybe you should have a look at another buyer
Yes, that's pure copper, this stuff isn't pure, it's bought as burned or number two copper all over the country. I can't sell it for more than 6,20€ a kilo. But anyways, your price is great, I can't get that at any scrapyard I have ever been to 👍👍
Nope, seems to be really hard to understand, most people don't understand this, but it is literally worth less when you take it apart. See, when you bring electric motors to the scrap yard, you are paid for them by weight. They can't process them and then give you your money based on the amount of stuff that was actually in there, so the guess and pay a fixed rate. This fixed rate is more than the metals would be worth individually. So they take a loss here, but make it back twice with the next one that has more copper in it. Got it? :)
You should’ve showed this slower, not time lapse. This is what people want to see, how to get the copper outa these little things cuz it’s difficult to figure out how to remove it...
But the whole point of this video was to show that it's a complete waste of time, I'm not sure if it makes a lot of sense to show it in detail then, but if I come across sometime difficult next time, I'll show it :) Thanks for watching 👍👍😊
Interesting, I wonder what made that, maybe it was my breath or something, I have to stand close to the camera for my microphone, that might be it. 😊👍👍
@@scrappingadventures290 could be that. I thought it looked like it came from the actual motor. You know,,, maybe you have a ghost wanting to help you scrap 🤣
Well you know, I like to talk about stuff, but why didn't you speed up the video? You can do that in the top right corner of the screen, I think. Thanks for watching 👍

Yep good practical video thanks for the effort you put in
Thank you, glad you liked it! 😃
Though I hate for anything to beat me, those motors with all the coils on. Gave me a good fight.
They certainly are not easy to take apart and not even worth it, so best to just leave them be. Thank you very much for watching 😊😃👍

Very good, this way we can all learn from the experience 👍
That's what I thought 😊 Thanks for watching 👍
Good information. I like the rapid speed, very nicely filmed.☺
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it, the quality is going to hopefully get way better in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for watching 😊👍👍
I found that with small transformers, I just put them in a bucket now and take them in that way.

Beautiful copper motors yeah , i have a about 20 tiny motors from dvd's , audio players, and microvawes stepper motors 🤣 nice work friend
Yes, you should really just sell them as they are, not worth it to put any work into them 😅 Thank you very much for watching 😊👍👍
I agree. Good video to point that out.
Thank you very much, I think it's important to talk about stuff like this, so that people can avoid making the same mistakes. Thanks for watching 😃👍👍

Cool... I knew there was a reason I always just sold them as motors :-) Know we know for sure!
You had the right feeling about them, that's a really good thing, saves you from a lot of problems 😊 Thank you very much for watching 😃👍
Thank you for letting me know
Absolutely mate, no problem 👍👍😃
Thanks for sharing
No problem, glad you liked it, thanks for watching 😃👍👍
Not everything is worth micro scrapping.
@@gulfcoastacrscrapper6523 Most definitely, and this was most definitely not 😃👍
You have way more patience than I do I do not do the Smalls but good job
Well, it was certainly not worth it, so in this case, it would be better to not have patience with it 😃 Thanks for watching 😊👍👍
One day when your completely snowed in ,,,,,,you will. 😛
Well, maybe, but we don't get a lot of snow over here, so probably not 😊👍
Great video as usual
Still waiting on wifi at my place to get caught up on your videos
Thank you mate, take your time, moving is always stressful, hope I don't have to go through that any time soon, but who knows. Thanks for watching 👍👍

I took apart a little motor copper was reddish but when I scratched it there was a silver color is it aluminum?

Can you sell used AAA, AA? battires
Sorry mate, I don't think I understand what you mean, what can I sell as batteries? Thanks for watching 👍😊

How about hammer meat cleaver thru the stator?
Sure, would work, but why? If you sell the stator as is, it's worth more money. :)
@@scrappingadventures290 That's impossible. Why would they pay more for an unseperated motor? Maybe you're talking about value of your time.
