- Hello dear viewers :)
In this copper scrapping and copper recycling video, we will scrapping a very interesting looking, sealed copper motor that turns out to be an absolute disaster and is absolutely not worth it to get the copper out of. This copper motor would be best to be sold to the scrapyard as is, as that would give you more money than scrapping it out.
Dobra robota 👍pozdrowienia z Polski👍👍
Don't worry mate, I actually think this video was way more entertaining than the usual ones :D
Thanks, that's good to hear, I do my best 👍👍😃😊
just found your channel, liked and subbed, sending you best wishes and many thank you's from Australia! Edit: I am a part time scrapper, which I mean to say, I collect copper if and when i see it, and i often go hunting for it, but it isn't my main source of income... Some of that copper is hard fought to get, other copper comes easy, but it all adds to fun and enhances life. I love scrapping, I could happily do it all day long (with breaks and sleep obviously lol). even just some of the mechanical objects I find that contain copper are so interesting, and there is in many man made objects, a great beauty in their design and production. Again, thank you for your time and best efforts!!!
Thank you, very glad you liked the video 😊 For sure, scrapping is a lot of fun, but you have to be careful, there's only so much your body can take, I recently did a video about that. Thanks for watching 👍👍👍😊
Got it for free - I bet you make money! Best explanation EVER! You worked hard for what you got. But you got more than you started with! Happy Hunting.
To be honest, I got less than what I started with 😂 The motor would have been worth about double of what I had in the end, so reeeeealy bad 😅 So yes, I made money because the damn thing was free, but I still feel like I lost money 😂 Well, it's a good learning lesson, so that's also worth something. Thanks for watching mate👍👍👍😊
😅😂 You really made me laugh with this one, it's great to see someone make the best out of every situation 👍
I'm glad to hear that, I recently started cheering myself up a bit more, live's yust more fun that way 👍👍😊
OMG!!! You had me rollling....thanks for keeping it real....
😅 Thanks mate, glad you liked it 👍👍😊
@@scrappingadventures290 remember your honesty and how you handle the situation makes the video. Your nailing it. Keep doing what your doing.
Sure will, thanks mate, means a lot 👍👍👍
😂 I loved this, you remind me of my quirky ways! Armatures are an absolute pain!! Boiling them can help release the glue but they are such hard work for so little reward 🙈 I get them for free and it still isn't worth the effort 😂
😅 Thank you so much, gald you enjoyed it a bit 😊 Yes, they really are a pain, no clue why people construct them this way, but I guess there's some reason for it... maybe 😂 Thanks for watching 👍👍😊
Sticking them in a 🔥 works way better. Hmmm Armature soup now that is a thought
That's certainly correct, I just don't know what odd stuff they might have used on them, so I don't think I'll take any chances with burning one. But a soup, sure, I'll take a cup or two 😅👍👍
@@Man-in-da-shed no🔥🚫 Ian, none of us should do that to the planet now should we!!!🤫
They take 5 min to strip the wire at the most. Very easy to clean
interesting motor moost be some speciall one, cheers👍 (will scrapp it anyway lol )
Must be, yeah, it's an odd little bugger for sure! Well, you're free to do that mate, that's for sure 😃👍
YUP!!
Great video bro!
Thank you, very glad you liked it 👍👍😃
👍 Second time ive watched this.
If you get a lot of them, it can make a difference. All depends if you like micro scrapping. If not, then motors
Actually not, they are worth less if I scrap them with my prices, that was the point of this video. But yes, there are way better prices out there than what I'm getting and if you get more, it might be worth it. Thanks for watching 👍👍😊
You have to burn these rotors in a fire, the heat melts the plastic glue, then the copper will slide out like butter with a screw driver 👍
That is true, but I don't know what kind of stuff they use when gluing them together, I don't want to risk breathing that in. Thanks for watching 👍👍😊
I never scrap those motors a complete waste of time and energy I just sell them as they are👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊😊😊😊
Exactly, that's what one should be doing. Thanks for watching 👍😊
People are odd sometimes, that's for sure, but you made the best out of it 👍
Indeed, we have to be creative sometimes, this time it was not enough 😅👍👍
I tried scrapping one of those motors myself about 2yrs ago and i also learned that they are just best to sell as an electric motor, but great effort.
They certainly are, but that's something you have to figure out for every one you get, as it's really hard to tell from the outside. I would just screw it back together and pretend that it didn't happen 😅👍👍
permanent magnet ac motor, the piece of copper the brushes run on is called a commutator, it is actually a number of pieces of copper separated by mica segments, it supplies power to the armature among other things, the same type of motor which is used in most power tools, the reason for the varnish which the armature is dipped in is there to hold the copper windings in place because without it the windings will move apart via centrifugal force as the speed increases
Sounds fun, thanks for sharing👍😃
Thats a dc motor. Exactly the same type (minus rubber drive coupling and reduction drive) as electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters use- just a size smaller. Ive stripped the wire out of almost 20 so far. They're a pain and tedious right down to chipping the blue glue off. Most can be unwound but some have stiff card strips above the wire in the grooves. That's when i angle grind the end copper off and lob the main part in the electric motors bin. What little comes off quickly still adds up in the better price bin.
Your video was informative and funny! Thank you my friend!
Subbed
That's great to hear, thank you so much 👍👍😊
i have 2 yards near me and they pay about 12¢ a lb (steel) for these things, "they" call them electric motors... i can't bring myself to get such a lousy price so they're piling up, haven't really tried to get the copper yet, there seems to be several ways to go about breaking these things down... one of these days i'll find the time to figure something out.
i doubt it'll be worth the labor but there's more than one way to factor worth/value, like calculating what you get compared to what the copper adds to the value, then you have to calculate how many you have and how much more you made by breaking them down, sans a per/hr calculation.
True, but as I'm getting 50 cents a kilo, so like 30 cents a pound, I get less money for all the different metals in there if I scrap those. So I would loose money if I scrap them, not a great plan 🙃 But of course, if you get next to nothing for them, you may as well scrap them, that'll be worth it. But be careful, there's no reason why they would scam you on that and give you good prices on the separated metals.
Good to know champ...
Right? I through so too, that's why I decided to upload this video 👍😊
That just wrong of whoever invented that! Why! 😂 it has to be made for a reason I suppose but…… yeah. 🤷♀️
Thanks. 💙
Right? 😃 Sometimes you really ask yourself what people have going on in their minds, but you're right, there probably is a reason for it. Thanks for watching 👍👍😊
What an odd motor, hope I don't get to many of that kind, but at least I now know to just sell them as is, thank you for that 😊
Well, I sure don't hope so, they aren't fun at all. Best to just sell them, absolutely. Thanks for watching 👍👍👍😊
Agreed. I learned the hard way scrapping out 20 vacuum cleaners. BAD idea.
Most certainly, not worth it at all, but just selling the motors can be decent money. Thanks for watching 👍👍😊
I still add it to my barrel of motors
As long as you don't scrap it, sure, they are sellable, just not worth doing anything else with :)
The rubber coating is to absorb vibration
But that's not a coating, the shaft was completely made out of rubber, it was bendy n stuff 🤔
@@scrappingadventures290 really? That's weird!
Yup, very weird indeed.
"why would you do that?" i seem to be saying that a lot.
Well, describes today's day and age pretty well, as most people don't think about why they do stuff.
Those things look like they are difficult to take a part, but in fact they are easier then most think, many drills will have something very similar. I have the dismantle video somewhere in my liked section, whenever I track it down I'll share the link here.
I don't care where the copper is, what I have to use to extract it, how long it takes, I look at the end haul (think like a millionaire become a millionaire - scrapping probably will not get you to being a millionaire - one mans trash is certainly another mans treasure, I just collect copper and brass till I have a few hundred kilograms or the scrap price is worth the trip, I collect brass and some other stuff and again wait for the price of taking it in to be great rather then scrap for trash payouts, anything gained easily will be lost just as quickly with the wrong mindset). My scrap pays partly towards my other investments 👍
Okay, I guess that's one way to look at it, but I would still like to make more than 2 bucks an hour, so those motors are just not worth it. I would also doubt that making 2 $ an hour will make you a millionaire, when I could just as well make 50$ an hour. If someone only has the option to make 2, ok, fair enough, better than nothing, but I would say it's stupid to choose 2 $ an hour over 50. Thanks for watching 👍👍👍😊
I put all small electric motors in 5 gallon bucket's and get a better price that way.
By putting it in a bucket? how does that work?
Knock the shaft out of the stator first then remove the copper
The stator is the stationary outer part with the magnets. You mean the armature aka rotor.
Takes 30 sec to clean
Even if it takes one, not worth it. Thanks for watching 👍 👍 👍
Well , since its just #2 wire, you can cookh the glue off. Just don't tell Greta Thung-girl, lol!
Nah, I'd totally tell her, just for her to tell me "how dare you!" and for me to laugh in her face 😁 That would be fun.
😯🤤👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching, appreciate it 👍😊
So I'm going to step out on a limb and give you a plausible reason for the rubber shaft. That's because it was more than likely a motor from an auto thrusting machine for ya know, someone spending some quality time with themselves.
Mate, that motor was about 3kg, I highly doubt that 😅🙃
😂👍
Thanks for watching 👍😊
Awesome those suckkkk
Indeed they do! The best place for them sadly is the scrapyard 😊👍
