Also the old fellas unit which he fought for in Nam maybe ( though I would need a fact check ) the one which the original Castle fought for.
The whole interaction with this soldier is such a good scene. Forget that Frank is aiming a pistol at him. The Marine is a Vietnam vet like Frank was in the comics and once he learns Frank is also one, he immediately changes tone to respect and honor. It shows that no matter how old, no matter where you come from, if you're veterans, you're brothers.
I had a unique interaction that was similar. Not war but something else that was also hard and traumatic in its own right. You instantly just feel like the stranger is family because they suffered the way you had.... Id never be a soldier, i dont like war, and i think the way this country treats our soldiers is bullshit. We should be paying them for life and covering every medical issue.
I'm a 5 year Navy vet. I absolutely hold no grudge against someone that didn't serve. No I'll will. But when I meet someone that is a vet, they go up a notch in my book. Of course most all vets had different experiences in the service, but even two strangers that are vets can talk about their service and other non vet people close by won't have a clue what they talking about.
A nam vet saying welcome home is actually pretty powerful. When they first came home, pretty much nobody told them that. It was their own country and they didn't feel welcomed home. Him telling another soldier "welcome home" has a lot more meaning than you might think.
In my completely honest and raw opinion, yes he is, as well as Thomas Jane. They’re both as good as each other, they just do perfectly in the role what they did differently from each other. I just wish I could’ve seen more Jane-Punisher work, possibly some sequel films. But oh well

I work in a hospital. Earlier this week, I got on the elevator to leave for the day. There was a white-haired African American older gentleman already on it. He was wearing a Vietnam vet hat. He was one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of speaking with in a long time. We spoke for a min while it stopped on various floors. He told me God was good and let me do 2 tours and make it back. I'm 77 years old, and I have been married 49 years. He saw a guy's shirt that got on before we made it to the bottom that had Marvin Gaye on it. He told us about how he got to see him perform for the soldiers in Vietnam and what songs he sung. I eventually made it to my floor and got off. I made sure to tell him thank you for your service and how nice it was to talk to him. The experience was one I won't forget.
My dad served in Vietnam too. US Army. Retired a Sergeant. My sister enlisted but due to health problems didn't serve long enough and got an uncharacterized discharge. Still got her DD-214,so she's legally a veteran. Even if she wasn't, I'm proud of her. She had the balls to go. Has to count for something.
The reason the nam vet told frank welcome home is because he's a Nam vet. They were not welcomed home after the war. It was truly heartbreaking. Imagine sacrificing everything, seeing hundreds of men die. Barely survive scarred maimed or catatonic. And come home met by the entire civilian population telling them they were monsters. All vets are heroes. They deserve more welfare.
