Hey mate nice work on the set up so far!! There’s a really good set up in one of the agopen gps success story pages which uses a linear potentiometer attached to the hydraulic ram for the steering angle sensor, it’s on the back of a header but it’s the same principle, looks like that would work for your set up, just using clamps on the ram and running the cable back into the cab. Would save trying to hack the OEM one.
Thanks mate! First up i just gotta say your recent spray cart vid is sick, love the drone video and the music - had me laughing. I'll have to get some too. Yeah cool, we actually have done that with a cheap potentiometer on an older tractor, and yeah it seemed to work. I was however worried about the reliability, especially if it got wet or muddy. The stock one on here looks real robust and is obviously designed to handle harsh environments. I haven't researched it much, I was hoping it would be simple to read the data! if its scrambled or security locked in some way that would be annoying... however I guess it would just put out a signal voltage on a wire at some point. Next project....
Ronan Taylor-Ware hahahaha thanks mate, yea we had a good laugh when we where putting it together, was the first few songs that came up, seemed too funny to pass up... might make it a bit awkward trying to show the older generation hahaha. I was using the land rover suspension ride height sensors on the steering for our wheel angle sensor but had a few issues so ended up just putting a potentiometer in a small box and used a little hub to connect an arm across to the steering, we’ve just done 1000 acres in the Ute without a hitch, and if it fails I can build another one from parts on the shelf at Jaycar, as opposed to ordering one from wherever. Not saying mine is better but it’s a get out of jail option for us that has turned out to be good enough to stay installed. Would be good to catch up some time mate, seems we are on similar paths with this project.
Very useful video Ronan. Thank you so much . Please make more videos, you did great job !
Thanks!
